Need help connecting external monitor

My brother needs help with connecting an external monitor to his 20" iMac G5. He has the adapter with the standard monitor port, and when plugged in, the monitor duplicates the iMac screen. His question is, how can he set it so that the desktop is extended, instead of duplicated? I, myself, have a MacBook and two months ago I used my adapter to connect a projector, and I remember an option where I could choose between duplicate and extended desktop, and right now I tried to find it on my MacBook and well as my Intel iMac and I can't find the option, and neither can he.
Please help, thanks!

The iMac G5 can only mirror the internal display unless you hack the firmware.
Display options like that only appear when you connect a display which is why you can't see them on the MB at the moment.

ok here it is my duaghter pushed my powerbook off hte table and it broke the screen and i have purchased a dvi to vga adapter to work on a n external monitor is there anything else i need to do to make it work right now all i get is white screen anyhelp willbe greatly appreciated

The VGA adapter is only 4" long, do you have an extension? If so, the computer should register the adapter and the images should be displayed. Any more details would help to see what's wrong.

  • Need help about external monitor

Hi, I recently purchased a LCD monitor. And I use it as eMac's external monitor because I don't like the CRT monitor on the eMac. The problem is how can I turn off the monitor on the eMac and just use my external monitor as the main one???

    Po-Nan Lin,
    Welcome to the Apple Discussions!
There's no switch or software patch that will blank the eMac's CRT while leaving the video out active. Short of ripping open the eMac and cutting the CRT's video cable (which not only obviously voids the warrenty but carries a definite safety risk due to the CRT's charge), there's no way to do what you want.

  • Monitor(video) on emac blew up, need help with external monitor....

Hello everyone, I have an old Emac which the monitor popped and stopped working. I bought the plug and had an external older monitor working once, then I plugged in a newer monitor and now neither will work. The xternal monitor has a small blue rectangle bouncing around saying "please check pc display settings. I tried to reset the ram by restarting the Emac and holding down the command, option,p, and r buttons. This made the second restart sound, but the video still does not work. Is there another sequence to reset? Am I doomed now? Any help is appreciated. Thank you.

Hello again, yes it was the picture tube that went. the smell was awful. The machine still runs, but since I plugged the flat screen monitor into it, it will not display either monitor. It was working once with an older monitor, but now it just diplays "adjust pc display settings". I needs to view the emac so I can retrieve my files. I've also tried resetting the pram, but that did not work. What can I do? I'm stuck. Thx.

  • How connect External monitor to iMac?

How connect External monitor to iMac?

How to do that depends on the iMac variant you have. iMacs have been in continuous production since 1998 in four broad families that are not 100 percent alike in behavior.
Please look at the iMac images and descriptions in the links on this site:
    http://www.everymac.com/systems/apple/imac/index-imac.html
and tell us what variant you believe you have.
iMacs from the first through third-generations (G3, G4, and G5 processors) that support an external monitor were not set up to do anything other than "mirroring"--you see on the external exactly what is on the built-in display.
Your description sounds like you have a newer iMac than this forum covers because, starting with the Intel iMacs in 2006, external monitors were allowed to do both mirroring and "extended desktop." The latter is what I believe you are seeing.
Try this first: press the F7 key. On many Macs capable fo using external monitors, this was a shortcut to toggle between mirrored and extended display. If your keyboard has an "fn" modifier key, you may need to press that to get the F7 key to work.
If you have an intel-powered iMac I can ask the Hosts to move you to that forum, which is much more active than this one which is for pre-2006 iMacs.

  • Need help connecting a windows network printer to my Mac (Xerox Phaser 3600) over a windows home network

Need help connecting a windows network printer to my Mac (Xerox Phaser 3600) over a windows home network.
My Mac runs lion and the windows desktop runs Windows XP
I have tried for a few hours or so to connect my mac to this printer over a home network.
For your information it does work when connected directly to my mac using a USB Cable.
If there is no soultion could I have help getting the drivers for a Dell All-in-One Photo 926

In most cases you can connect to the Windows shared printer from the Mac. But there is a dependence on the Mac driver being compatible. For many consumer inkjets, the vendor created driver cannot be used for this type of connection so you need to look at alternative drivers, such as Gutenprint or PrintFab. If you can tell us which brand and model of printer you have shared from Windows then we can answer your question with the preferred procedure on the Mac.

  • Need help connecting to my home Wireless Network

I need help connecting my LaserJer M1212nf MFP to my home wirless network. I would like to use Apple's AirPrint, and be able to print from my iPad.
I've spent a few hours following the directions I found on the manuals through hp.com and I've had no luck. I've already unistalled and reinstalled the printer. I've also updated the firmware. If anyone can provide assistance I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you!

This is NOT a wireless printer (see product spec: http://www.shopping.hp.com/shopping/pdf/ce841a.pdf), you can NOT add the printer to the wireless network. This printer do support LAN connection, so if your wireless router has LAN ports, you can added it to your home network by connecting a network cable from the printer to a LAN port on the router. You need then reinstall the printer as a network printer, to use airprint.

  • I need help connecting my iPhone and computer together.

I need help connecting my iPhone to computer

    Howdy sprinklemk,
    Welcome to Apple Support Communities.
Take a look at the iPhone User Guide, it answers your question about how to connect your iPhone to your computer and provides additional information that you may find helpful.
    http://manuals.info.apple.com/MANUALS/1000/MA1565/en_US/iphone_user_guide.pdf
You may need to connect iPhone to your computer in order to complete activation. Connecting iPhone to your computer also lets you sync photos and other content to iPhone from your computer, using iTunes. See Sync with iTunes on page 18.
To use iPhone with your computer, you need:
An Internet connection for your computer (broadband is recommended)
A Mac or a PC with a USB 2.0 or 3.0 port, and one of the following operating systems:
OS X version 10.6.8 or later
Windows 8, Windows 7, Windows Vista, or Windows XP Home or Professional with Service Pack 3 or later
Connect iPhone to your computer. Use the Lightning to USB Cable (iPhone 5 or later) or 30-pin the other device.
    Cheers,
    -Jason

  • Need help Connecting Crystal Reports 8.5 with GBS Agency Expert 6.7.6c

Need help Connecting Crystal Reports 8.5 with GBS Agency Expert 6.7.6c.  I need assistance on connecting these together so I can run a report.  I am not an IT person so if someone could dumb it down it would be great.
    Thanks,
    NBGHealth

    Hello,
I assume GBS Agency Expert 6.7.6c is some sort of database or data source? If you have an ODBC driver then create or use a System DSN to the database. Then you can create a report using that DSN.
Otherwise I suggest you contact the makers of GBS Agency Expert 6.7.6c and ask them how to connect to the database.
Let them know CR is ANSII 92 ODBC 3 compliant.
    Thank you
    Don

  • Help Needed setting up external monitor

I have a Mac Pro with the standard video card giving me two DVI outputs. I have a Cinema Display as my main monitor and a 17" Panasonic broadcast monitor as my secondary monitor. I have a Matrox MXO box connected to the secondary DVI and a SDI cable running from Matrox MXO to Pana monitor. The screen is on and I can drag items over to it but I want to set it up as a external monitor and no matter what I select I see a message that the monitor is missing. Do you think its because I have it connected via SDI? Any ideas?
    Darrin

External monitor to view your footage, or as a second desktop? Darn, I wish I had my MXO with me now...I'd figure this out. But I am sure in the MXO control panel there is a setting. Look in the PRESENTATION tab.

  • Need help - connecting Monitor and TV at same time with component video

I have a mac mini, connected via DVI to a monitor - I bought a DVI splitter to connect the monitor to one port and the tv to the other via a DVI to Video adapter, using component video. When I plug in the DVI to Video adapter, the primary monitor loses its connection and I cannot seem to get the TV to recognize the signal - what am I doing wrong?

In my case, the Barco Cine7 CRT projector I would like to connect the new Mini to accepts a pretty wide variety of analog component video formats, but I cannot find a listing of what the Mini supports. Presuming I use a DVI to VGA adapter and then a VGA to RGB cable, can the mini video card output any one of the following analog component formats:
RGBs or RGsB - R, G and B with automatic sync detection between seperate sync (separate composite sync or with separate hor and vert. sync) or sync on green (composite sync)
RGB with tri level sync - R, G and B with separate tri level sync or with tri level sync on green.
Component video - R-Y, Y and B-Y with separate sync or with compositesync.
Component video with tri level sync - R-Y, Y and B-Y with separate tri level sync or with composite tri level sync.
