Need help connecting my macbook pro to my tv!

I want to hook up my macbook pro to my tv so i bought the mini display port to HDMI adapter and an hdmi cord but when i plug it in my computer is using the TV as a dual screen. Does anyone know how to fix this? is there an option to turn off the dual moniters on my macbook?

I would like to ask for your help and advice.
I recently purchased a new MacBook Pro, OS X, Version 10.8.3.
I need to setup a password to the wireless internet network (I've successfully done this)
I have a Wireless G, WRT54G Router.
When I setup the password, I'm not able to connect to the internet with my new MacBook Pro, which is running Mac OS X Version 10.8.3. I get the message 'cannot connect to Internet, connection timeout) However, I'm able to connect to the internet with an older MacBook Pro, and my iPad. The password works fine with other models.
Would anyone be able to help me troubleshoot what is going on, or how I can solve this problem?
I would like to be able to have a password on my network, and use the internet with my new MacBook Pro.
I have read about manually adding in the MAC address of computers, and setting up a Wireless MAC fiter.
Does anyone think this would solve the problem? if so, how can I find out the MAC address of my MacBook Pro?

If you have a retina MBP use a HDMI to HDMI cable.
If you have a non retina MBP, use a minidisplay port to HDMI cable. Insert the minidisplay end in the Thunderbolt port.

It's actally an HDMI adapter that Apple sells.
You hook the small adapter up to your MBP and then HDMI cable to your TV. Please note adapter is for HDMI compliant for HDMI rev 1.3 and above:
My TV, which has DVI port also, besides HDMI gets its best resolution by DVI of which also sell at Apple store for the MBP.
Bottom line is check w/ your TV manufacture to be sure your flat screen supports 1920 X 1200.

It looks like I cannot install anything anymore. Everytime I try to install a new software, I simply get stuck during the installation type process. I put in my password, it does accept it, but it does not go any further.
I tried to reset the password, put no password, repair the permissions, the disk but nothing will do. I nearly got stuck with the log in screen but finally succeeded in disabling it.
So I thought I might try to create a new account but I cannot click the lock to make changes. It simply refuses to react.
I am now thinking about using the migration assistant to save all my settings, data and so fourth, but again I get stuck when I have to type in my password. It accepts it but nothing happens...
I guess it has something to do with the authorization process, but can't find anything on the internet about it... Can you help me out?
I am running Lion 10.7.3.

You probably won't like this suggestion, but I suggest you reinstall Lion.
First, backup your system. Next, reboot your system, press/hold the COMMAND-R keys to boot into the Recovery HD. Select 'Reinstall Mac OS X'. If you purchased Lion as an upgrade to Snow Leopard, the reinstall process will install Lion 10.7.3. If your system came preinstalled with Lion, you might still get Lion 10.7.2. Both installs are a total install of the OS. None of your apps or data will be impacted. Just the OS.

I am trying to connect my MacBook Pro (early 2011 w/ Intel HD 3000/ 384Mb) to an external display with a 2560x1440 resolution. Specifically, what cable/connections do I need to display at this resolution? I cannot get the display to work using a "Thunderbolt to HDMI" or a "Thunderbolt to DVI" connector. Note: I used both older and newer (uni-directional) HDMI cables on the first config, and a Dual-link DVI cable on the second config. Apple specs state this is possible ( support.apple.com/kb/SP619 ), but I am at a loss as to how this can be done. Thanks in advance for the help!

You use a Mini DisplayPort to either HDMI or dual-link DVI adapter. If that component doesn't work, something's wrong with either the cable or something else in the connection.

My Samsung Widescreen TV has a hook-up (15 pin connector/serial port?) for a PC. What do I need to do to connect my MacBook Pro to it and can I use the TV as the monitor or for viewing an internet website? If you can tell me whch TV & MBP you have i can give you exact cable part numbers and settings but short of that i'll try & see what i can do for you. Older MBP do not support audio over the HDMI & by default VGA doesn't either so will need an audio cable in addition to the video regardless which input you use. aparently newer MBP Do support audio over HDMI so as long as your TV does also you're a one cable hookup. My Samsung has a specific HDMI port labled DVI/ HDMI which accepts a cable i got at the apple store & simply plug play. Look in your samsung manual to verify what resolutions the TV suppports, select the input & mode from your menue and set the resolution & you should be good to go. Obviously you'll need to do a little tweaking inorder to optimize the screen but assuming you're familliar with your mac to begin with it's a no brainer. you might not be able to run optimal resolution on the TV untill you close the lid (clamshell mode) on the MBP which means you need a key board & trackpad or mouse. on the other hand if you are attempting to mirror the displays or use it as a 2nd display those modes are also available from the MBP setup. you can detect & gather your screens & calibrate the screens right on the MBP (under dispalys) and once you have the TV reckognizing the input it's nothing but a monitor. now all of the above assumes you are NOT running Lion as i'm NOT. I hope this at least gets you in the ballpark.

I'm planning to buy a refurbished MacBook Pro since I'm tight with budget. This would be my first mac machine ever. So I was hoping if someone can shed some opinion on which one should I go for. But first, I will be using the MacBook for basic photoshop, Office documents (Word, Excel, Outlook, Powerpoint), internet, and maybe (just maybe) if I have time from my busy work, I could try to learn in movie editing (just for fun). So it looks like the difference between the two is obviously the CPU, the 2012 having an extra GPU, and the 2013 uses the Thunderbolt 2 as far as I know. And I'm not sure if the SSD on the 2012 is SATA as oppose to the 2013 it's PCIe? Base from what I explained above on how will I'll be using the MacBook for, is the 2012 best fit for my needs or is the 2013 a better one?

PS: side-by-side specs, graphics and drive data rates,
the newer of the two may be the better one to get, as
it has later Thunderbolt with higher capacities, too.
Look into mactracker or other specification chart that
can be opened beside each other (as I have now) &
then you can see sections in each model, one at a
time. MacTracker shows general-software-memory+
graphics-connections-history by category.
2013 model Thunderbolt, Hard Drive Interface, graphics
spec all look good. Not sure if the history of graphic issue
in the dual-graphic card model 2012, was overcome or not.
However this may require some research...
If yours is one that shipped with Mavericks OS X 10.9
you may do well to get a copy of the installer on a
USB and dedicate it as a backup or set up a second
drive or other device to safe a download of the installer
and/or a copy-clone of the Mavericks. The limited total
of RAM available may not be a problem, with both units
shipping with an SSD and not a rotational HDD. And if
you like (& if yours has OS X 10.9) you could then use
OS X 10.10 too. Be careful an 'upgrade' isn't done to
an older system by accident; surprises aren't so nice.
With either choice, be sure to get & make suitable backup
of your files in addition to a device to use Time Machine.

I need to set up a wireless webcam to monitor a litter of puppies while I am at work. Home computer is an iMac 24 inch, at work I can plug in my MacBook Pro, or use the office PC network. I need help in selecting a web cam (wireless, as pups are far from computer) and setting up so I can log on via an internet connection.

Some UK links... You can use any of the following to get the video signal out of the iMac and into a standard format:
Mini DVI - DVI
Mini DVI - VGA
Mini DVI - Composite/S-Video.
The DVI will give you best quality, but VGA will be simpler. The DVI to HDMI connector is:
Buy a DVI to HDMI connector (link). Long HDMI cables are pretty expensive though.
Although HDMI can handle sound as neither DVI, MiniDVI nor VGA do you'll need to connect the sound separately. Simply connect the sound out on the iMac to the input on the TV using a cable like this:
3.5mm to RCA.
If you use the miniDVI to VGA connector here's a long VGA cable (link).
All Macs since about 1999 have had +DVD Player+ installed. I'm not at my Mac right now to check Front Row in Leopard but Front Row in Tiger certainly played DVDs (but +DVD Player+ is a better, more flexible DVD Player).
