Hi, and welcome to Apple Discussions.
Try calling your Internet Service Provider to help you hook up your internet connection.
In the future, you may want to post in the iBook (colors) forum:

Assuming that your cable modem has Gigabit Ethernet ports (possible, but it probably does not) Cat 5e or Cct 6 would do the job that you need.
If the cable modem is using a 10/100 Mbps port, then Cat5 will be OK.

I have an iMac G4 and need to connect it to the internet. Do I need to buy an airport card or can I just use a normal USB wifi stick?

Will this need to be a special mac compatible one or will they all be fine?
You need to see "works on Mac" on the box. All such deveices require a driver. The adaptor would work in many cases except for the lack of Mac drivers. Some companies have the proper Mac drivers on their web sites, some shuffle you off to suspect third-party sites, and some have no Mac drivers at all. If you want to buy one adaptor, not have to return it or send hours searcing the web for a driver that works, look at this one:

  • Connecting IPad to Cable Internet

I am considering purchasing an IPad for an 80 year old gentleman. He has wireless internet in his home but has cable internet at his summer residence. Is there any adapter to accomplish an internet access to a cable internet system, without the installation of a wireless router and confusing this man?

Another option is to buy the iPad and the Verizon Wireless mobile MiFi 2200 Hot Spot at one of the Verizon Wireless stores. I did this last month and am very satisfied with the service. However, like any of these devices, if his summer home is out in the middle of nowhere, he may have reception problems with the hot spot.
The other downside is that then he will have a monthly data charge like you have with iPhone service or a Droid. You must have the data plan in order to use the mobile hot spot that Verizon offers. The device itself is about the size of a credit card but a little thicker. It is battery powered and comes with a wall charger.
You can view the device and the plan on the Verizon Wireless web site.

  • Clamshell Cannot Connect to Cable Internet

I have an iBook Clamshell, PowerPC 750, 300MHz, 512mb, 288mb memory, OSX 10.3.5 and for the life of me I cannot get it connected to my cable internet. I did once before several months back, but cannot any longer. My router and modem are all working as they should. When I go through my network settings, my Built-In Ethernet is showing up with correct IP address and router address. I'm not sure if I'm missing something or what. Any thoughts or ideas?

Have you verified that the ethernet port has no bent pins ?
Maybe you should use a different lan cable and check that it is a regular lan cable and not a Cross-over cable.

  • How do you set up TC with cable internet?

I know this may sound ******** but if I have a coaxial cable coming out of my wall and the is no coaxial cable input on the TC, how do you set it up without using the crappy router I got from TW cable?  Is there a coaxial cable to ethernet adapter?

but if I have a coaxial cable coming out of my wall and the is no coaxial cable input on the TC, how do you set it up without using the crappy router I got from TW cable?
Suggest that you ask TW to provide you with a simple modem.....not a router. The TC is also a router. You don't need two routers and it just makes things more complicated.
Is there a coaxial cable to ethernet adapter?
No. You need to connect the coax cable to a modem. The modem provides an Ethernet signal to the TC.

  • Need help getting my G-4 to connect to cable internet

I inherited a G-4 Power PC from my son about a year ago. At that time it would automatically connect via built in ethernet and cable to my cable modem, although I would have to re-boot the modem and restart the computer 2 or 3 times. Now that I need to start using it since my G-3 running OS 10.3.9 won't download Flash 10, the G-4 refuses to connect to the internet automatically or manually.
Do I need a different IP address for each computer?(I use suddenlink cable internet) I plugged in the numbers from my G-3 and get the message that I'm connected to the internet but when I open a browser I get the message that I'm not connected. Can I re-boot to an earlier time when the connection worked?
Only occasionally do I get the message that another application has changed my settings.
Sorry to run on, any help appreciated.

Your isp was remembering the prior ip address. The reboot of the modem forgot the ip address.

I think you have run into the security update problem.

  • Need help connecting to the internet via Dial-up?

Hi! My son and his mini have moved back to Vermont, and where he is only dial-up is available. I thought the hookup would be simple......I haven't a clue. I have been on high spped cable for so long that I need help!!!!! Here is what I tried. Phone cable to the modem. (Can't connect it directly to the mini because it only takes an ethernet cable) USB cable from the modem to the mini. Using the Verizon software we got nowhere because we could not get a connection...Need help, Thanks Bill

The first bit of info is which Verizon number to use to dial-up, so that it is a local call. Is your son going to call from Essex Jct or somewhere else? Basically we need his area code and first three digits of phone number, if you are comfortable giving that. Otherwise you'll have to call Verizon and ask them for the local number to call.
Then we have to look up how Verizon wants login info. Perhaps another customer can help here. The conventions vary from one ISP to another. Please don't give us you login here!
That should be enough to get you connected and surfing. Then we have to configure the mail program. But again a little research or help from another Verizon customer will do the trick.
Please don't install their software. I've spent countless hours removing ISPs' extra software from friends computers. Such software does not necessarily make things faster and it leaves you with a non-standard system. It's also about getting their hooks into you to push more advertising at you and more revenue their way. (This helps explain why they are so eager for you to use their software BTW.)
There are techniques to speed up dial-up, but they don't involve extra ISP software and ads. They have to do with keeping the ads away in the first place.
