Need help connecting to my usb disk via wan
Hey
Ive manage to connect to my usb disk in my own wifi network but when i try to connect to it through Safari using afp:// myip:chosenport it will not work, why doesnt it? I think ive checked all boxes in Airport ultility to make my disk avalible.
Could some friendly soul make a guide so i know if im doing anything wrong with my settings?
I see my usb-disk in the sidebar when i open Finder, if thats what u mean?
I should have the latest update with Mountain Lion so i suppose it would support it? And yes i am using an Airport Extreme router!
When i try to connect through Finder->Go to Server and-> writing my ip and connecting, the connection takes about 1 minute to say that the server is not avalible at the moment or something like that!

Could anyone help advise me how to use my 5th gen time capsule airport to connect to my existing wireless modem(non-apple) over the wireless network (NOT using the WAN port with a cable) and then connect with an ethernet cable to give internet connectivity to my AV Receiver? I would also like to be able to back up my macbook pro with the time machine/time capsule benefit. I know that many AV setups have recommended using airport express to receive wireless connectivity to pass on internet through the ethernet port to AV setups, but I thought I would try to add the extra functionality of the over-the-air backups with the time capsule at the same time. Is this possible without connecting with a wire to the modem which has no ability for a wired connection where the TV and AV setup is? Any help would be much appreciated:)
It doesn't work except to another apple router. Sorry.
The express does work.. that is a difference between Express and Extreme/TC. -
Need help connecting a windows network printer to my Mac (Xerox Phaser 3600) over a windows home network.
My Mac runs lion and the windows desktop runs Windows XP
I have tried for a few hours or so to connect my mac to this printer over a home network.
For your information it does work when connected directly to my mac using a USB Cable.
If there is no soultion could I have help getting the drivers for a Dell All-in-One Photo 926In most cases you can connect to the Windows shared printer from the Mac. But there is a dependence on the Mac driver being compatible. For many consumer inkjets, the vendor created driver cannot be used for this type of connection so you need to look at alternative drivers, such as Gutenprint or PrintFab. If you can tell us which brand and model of printer you have shared from Windows then we can answer your question with the preferred procedure on the Mac.

I need help connecting my iPhone and computer together.
I need help connecting my iPhone to computer
Howdy sprinklemk,
Welcome to Apple Support Communities.
Take a look at the iPhone User Guide, it answers your question about how to connect your iPhone to your computer and provides additional information that you may find helpful.
http://manuals.info.apple.com/MANUALS/1000/MA1565/en_US/iphone_user_guide.pdf
You may need to connect iPhone to your computer in order to complete activation. Connecting iPhone to your computer also lets you sync photos and other content to iPhone from your computer, using iTunes. See Sync with iTunes on page 18.
To use iPhone with your computer, you need:
An Internet connection for your computer (broadband is recommended)
A Mac or a PC with a USB 2.0 or 3.0 port, and one of the following operating systems:
OS X version 10.6.8 or later
Windows 8, Windows 7, Windows Vista, or Windows XP Home or Professional with Service Pack 3 or later
Connect iPhone to your computer. Use the Lightning to USB Cable (iPhone 5 or later) or 30-pin the other device.
Cheers,
-Jason -

Need help on buying FIREWIRE/USB-compatible for Logic Pro 9.0.2 on my SL
Hi...Im in needs of help in my new OS Mac World.Had my Logic Pro 9(9.0.2) install in my Snow Leopard(10.6.3).Need help on buying FIREWIRE/USB-compatible for Logic Pro 9.0.2 on my Snow Leopard.Just a real basic audio interface that works with my Macbook pro Specification. You're help will be much more appreciated..
Best Regards:RatzyMazzyIn any case I would suggest to get an audio interface which is *Core Audio* compatible. This means that you just need to plug it in and it will work with OS X’s integrated driver. I once had an M-Audio interface which needed its own driver and it had latency problems because of them. I am currently using the EDIROL FA-66 with 10.6.3 on my MacBook Pro. It still works flawlessly and has worked without problems in the past with 10.4 and 10.5, too. Here is how it looks like: http://www.rolandus.com/products/productdetails.php?ProductId=731
I have also heard good things about the FireWire interfaces from Presonus, like the FireBox.

Need help connecting to my home Wireless Network
I need help connecting my LaserJer M1212nf MFP to my home wirless network. I would like to use Apple's AirPrint, and be able to print from my iPad.
I've spent a few hours following the directions I found on the manuals through hp.com and I've had no luck. I've already unistalled and reinstalled the printer. I've also updated the firmware. If anyone can provide assistance I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you! This is NOT a wireless printer (see product spec: http://www.shopping.hp.com/shopping/pdf/ce841a.pdf), you can NOT add the printer to the wireless network. This printer do support LAN connection, so if your wireless router has LAN ports, you can added it to your home network by connecting a network cable from the printer to a LAN port on the router. You need then reinstall the printer as a network printer, to use airprint.

Need help Connecting Crystal Reports 8.5 with GBS Agency Expert 6.7.6c
Need help Connecting Crystal Reports 8.5 with GBS Agency Expert 6.7.6c. I need assistance on connecting these together so I can run a report. I am not an IT person so if someone could dumb it down it would be great.
Thanks,
NBGHealthHello,
I assume GBS Agency Expert 6.7.6c is some sort of database or data source? If you have an ODBC driver then create or use a System DSN to the database. Then you can create a report using that DSN.
Otherwise I suggest you contact the makers of GBS Agency Expert 6.7.6c and ask them how to connect to the database.
Let them know CR is ANSII 92 ODBC 3 compliant.
Thank you

hi there,
I want to use the files on the disk in my Time Capsule when I'm not at home, so not directly connected to the Time Capsule.
I enabled the option to share disks via WAN, but I was wondering how to connect to the drive over WAN?
(I want to use this on a windows 7 laptop)
can you guys help me out?
thanks in advanceFind out what your AirPort's external IP address is. You can see it under the Summary tab of the AirPort Utility. From your Win7 PC connected to the WAN, open the Start menu and locate the Run... command. In the dialog enter the IP address with two backslashes in front of it, i.e., \\123.456.654.321 .

USB Disk via USB Hub or Ethernet NAS Connection More Reliable?
This is a rather techical question that calls for an opinion.
I want to centralize backups for my daughter, wife and myself. I'm going to add the latest model Airport Extreme Base Station as both an internet access point (from my cable modem) and as a wireless router to hard drive storage. I know there are cheaper (and probably faster) wireless routers; however, I've used various models of airport base stations over the years with my cable modem and they have all worked flawlessly and never need rebooting.
My two choices: 1) Connect a 4-port, powered USB hub to the usb connection on the Airport Extreme and use a pair of 3GB hard drives--one for primary backup and the second for the backup of the backup. 2) Use a QNAP TS110 or TS112 NAS device and connect it to the Base Station via gigabit ethernet. Then, an external USB drive would be connected to the QNAP NAS device. I've encountered QNAP NAS products in my work life and have been incredibly impressed with them--reliable, very low power requirements, reasonably easy setup via Web browser.
Choice 1 will be about $125 less expensive than Choice 2. I'll have to use the Linux Ext3 or 4 partition map for both drives under Choice 2 but the external USB volume can be formatted in Mac HFS+. Choice 2 will be theoretically faster because of the gigabit ethernet connection (probably irrelevant because of the slow wireless n throughput) but the QNAP device can be set to do automated backups to the USB drive that would be connected to it. That's nice.
My question: Based on what I've read over the years about connecting USB disks to an Airport Extreme base station, I have the opinion that an ethernet connection to an NAS device may be more reliable (ie, the client computers don't drop the connection to the hard drive as often). Maybe I'm wrong about that. I would like an opinion.
Also, I know how slow the real throughput will be as a result of clients connecting via wireless n. In real life, with decent quality connections, I'll be looking at 10MB to 12MB per second max. The first backups will take days; however, subsequent incremental backups will be much faster. I don't plan to use Time Machine, but rather to use Carbon Copy Cloner to make backups to read/write sparse disk image bundles (CCC won't do regular backups to networked drives). I tried Time Machine a while back but would rather have access to actual files as as a complete disk image that would be bootable when written back to a drive. Call me old-fashioned, but that's me. I also have two other bootable backups on 2.5" external drives--one that stays with me and another is always at my work place. Also, I'm not interested in a Time Capsule because I don't think their reliability is all that great (bad design with too much heat buildup).
Thanks for any insights you can offer.I meant to say 3TB drives, not 3GB.

Need help connecting to the internet via Dial-up?
Hi! My son and his mini have moved back to Vermont, and where he is only dial-up is available. I thought the hookup would be simple......I haven't a clue. I have been on high spped cable for so long that I need help!!!!! Here is what I tried. Phone cable to the modem. (Can't connect it directly to the mini because it only takes an ethernet cable) USB cable from the modem to the mini. Using the Verizon software we got nowhere because we could not get a connection...Need help, Thanks Bill
The first bit of info is which Verizon number to use to dial-up, so that it is a local call. Is your son going to call from Essex Jct or somewhere else? Basically we need his area code and first three digits of phone number, if you are comfortable giving that. Otherwise you'll have to call Verizon and ask them for the local number to call.
Then we have to look up how Verizon wants login info. Perhaps another customer can help here. The conventions vary from one ISP to another. Please don't give us you login here!
That should be enough to get you connected and surfing. Then we have to configure the mail program. But again a little research or help from another Verizon customer will do the trick.
Please don't install their software. I've spent countless hours removing ISPs' extra software from friends computers. Such software does not necessarily make things faster and it leaves you with a non-standard system. It's also about getting their hooks into you to push more advertising at you and more revenue their way. (This helps explain why they are so eager for you to use their software BTW.)
There are techniques to speed up dial-up, but they don't involve extra ISP software and ads. They have to do with keeping the ads away in the first place. -
Help needed to connect to remote PPTP VPN via PIX 515e
Hello,
A user in our office needs to connect to a client's remote PPTP VPN but can't connect. The user is running Windows 7. We have a Cisco PIX 515e firewall that is running PIX Version 6.3(3) - this is what our user is having to go through to try and make the connection to the client's remote VPN.
The client's network guys have come back and said the issue is at our side. They say that they can see some of our traffic but not all of it. The standard error is shown below, and they say it's symptomatic of the client-side firewall not allowing PPTP traffic:
"A connection between the VPN server and the VPN client XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX has been established, but the VPN connection cannot be completed. The most common cause for this is that a firewall or router between the VPN server and the VPN client is not configured to allow Generic Routing Encapsulation (GRE) packets (protocol 47). Verify that the firewalls and routers between your VPN server and the Internet allow GRE packets. Make sure the firewalls and routers on the user's network are also configured to allow GRE packets. If the problem persists, have the user contact the Internet service provider (ISP) to determine whether the ISP might be blocking GRE packets."
I have very little firewall experience and absolutely no Cisco experience I'm afraid. From looking at the PIX config I can see the following line:
fixup protocol pptp 1723.
Does this mean that the PPTP protcol is enabled on our firewall? Is this for both incoming and outgoing traffic?
I can see no reference to GRE 47 in the PIX config. Can anyone advise me what I should look for to see if this has been enabled or not?
I apologise again for my lack of knowledge. Any help or advice would be very gratefully received.
RosHi Eugene,
Thank you for taking the time to reply to me. Please see our full PIX config below. I've XX'd out names and IP addresses as I'm never comfortable posting those type of details in a public forum. I hope that the information below is still sufficient for you.
Thanks again for your help,
Ros

I need help connecting drums with MIDI-USB cable.
I've been trying this for years, but I just don't know what to do or what I need to connect my electronic drums to GarageBand or any other MIDI programs, I pretty much connect the module and my mac with a MIDI to USB cable and nothing seems to recognize or detect any MIDI instruments or anything at all, does anyone know why or how to do this? If I need something or not? Thanks.
So it's this one, I assume?
