Need help "consolidating"

I just tried to "consolidate" all the songs I have in my iTunes(both in iTunes library and in other files)into a single iTunes Music library and after some "copying" activity, I got the error message "Copying Music failed. The file name was invalid or too long." What does this mean and, more importantly, how do I solve this problem so I may consolidate my library?

I've had several similar issues. I find the best thing to do is delete your entire library and re-add it back. If you don't already own an ipod, you might also want to consider switching to an application that behaves better on windows. WMP and winamp both use less memory and seem to work more reliably. Also, when you update these other applications, you don't have to reinstall the entire application. Also, they don't seem to have the same sluggish video refresh issues.

Need help consolidating. Strange error message

Hello,
Trying to consolidate library to new external drive. Created file on new drive, pointed itunes there, hit consolidate. after 4.6 gig, it stopped and said not enough memory. 180 gig left on hard drive! tried again, and have since been getting "cannot copy. unknown error -50"
Any clues or suggestions? iTunes 9.02 Tried restarting itunes, stopped short of rebooting.

I think you may have overwhelmed your internal drive by possibly doing this incorrectly.
What you wanted to do is either:
Copy the itunes folder (user/music/itunes) to the new drive. Press and hold the option key while starting itunes, select choose library, and navigate to the itunes folder on the external drive and select it.
OR
With the empty new drive connected, press and hold the option key while starting itunes, create new library, browse to the external drive and select the location for your new library.
Then, while in this new empty library, from the itunes file menu select add to library and browse to the itunes music folder (user/music/itunes/itunes music) and select it. This will move the files to the new drive and index the library. It will take a while. (the location may be slightly different if you have a media folder)
If you have a bloated library on your internal drive you'll need to figure out how to fix that firs.

Need help consolidating libraries

Hello all,
Here's the question:
I have two older computers, both of which have limited hard drive space left. My Compaq desktop is being retired after I transfer my extensive music collection to my new Ipod Mini-over 2 GB. My other laptop (IBM thinkpad) holds about 800gig of music files. My questions are:
1. How can I continue to buy music and add files to my Ipod on the laptop without storing them all on the laptop's hard drive.
2. What is the easiest way to transfer the MP3 files from the desktop into the Ipod?
Or another way-how do I transfer all my MP3 files into the Ipod-without having them on either computer-and still be able to use the laptop to buy new music and keep the Ipod updated?

See if you can get iPhoto Library Manager to rebuild the problem library as follows:
Using iPhoto Library Manager to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
1 -Download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
2 -Click on the Add Library button, navigate to your User/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
3 - Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File->Rebuild Library menu option
4 - In the next window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
5 - Click on the Create button.
Note: It may take some time to create the new library if you have a lot of photos. Report back on how long it took and how many photos you have in the library so we can give other users an idea of how long it may take.
It will leave the original library untouched in case the result are not what you expected.

TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've written an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. Need help consolidating albums

Ok this is not going to be easy to explain, but here is my problem, I have several bands which I own not only all of their albums, but all of their cd singles too. one band in particular, lostprophets, has had 3 albums, but after all of the singles that number shot up to 22. I'm looking to organize it so that all of the singles and unreleased works I have all show up under one album, but I want the song to still display what single it is from. I tried using the sort album feature. I set it so that all of the singles would go into an album I had already created for songs that were unreleased called "lostprophets B-Sides and Rarities". All of the singles did get sorted into one album, but that album suddenly disappeared from my list, and itunes kept one of the other albums, "Shinobi Vs Dragon Ninja #2" on the list. So is there anyway to make it sort them into the album I actually want them to go to? I really don't want 20+ albums of 1 or 2 songs a piece to sort through on my ipod.

Sounds to me like you're trying to use the *Sort Album* field to merge different values of Album together. This really doesn't work, particularly on an iPod. The approach I would suggest would be to put any original information you want into either the Comments field or appended to the track name, e.g. *Title B \[B-side to Title A\]*, then clear all the Sort Album values and use your made-up Album name to link everything together. Of course CD singles don't really have B-sides and may even have as many as 4 or 5 tracks. Give each "original" single a different disk number in your "virtual" album and you can keep the original track numbers and control the order of the singles. An alternative approach is to tack the single releases onto the end of the relevant albums as "bonus" tracks.

Use an explanatory subject title.
Titles such as "this doesn't work, wtf???" do not help and make people roll their eyes. Try to summarize the problem in the title so someone opening the thread has an idea of what your post is about. This will also increase the chance of someone who can solve your problem finding your thread.
Explain the problem clearly and provide detailed information.
Again, "it's just broken" and similar "descriptions" don't tell anyone anything. Give all the relevant information that you can think of, such as the specific error that you're getting, system information (e.g. soundcards for audio problems, network setup for connection problems), when the problem started and what might have caused it, relevant logs, relevant system configuration files, etc. Include information about anything that you've tried so far to solve the problem. You can also read this extensive guide on getting help.
Be patient and polite.
Sometimes it takes time to get a reply. Do not bump your thread every 3 hours with messages like "come on, help me!!!". Also, don't be rude to people who misunderstand your problem or reply with suggestions that don't work. Instead, politely try to explain your problem more clearly.
Mark the thread as [SOLVED] once you've found a solution.
Once you've found the solution, edit your original post and add "[SOLVED]" to the beginning of the subject title. This way others with similar problems will be able to find the solution faster.

First of all, I want to thank all people who will at least read my thread. I'm a junior consultant who need help on SAP BPC (Business Planning and Consolidation) - ex. OutllookSoft. So, if you have some tutorials, some documents, something that can help me to learn how to use SAP BPC, I will be very grateful to you. Up to now, I just read the "Help" of SAP BPC (OutlookSoft 4.2.419), the version I have to use. But it is just a technical help, I have nothing about the terms used (what is an application, a member, etc.), the philosophy of the tool, etc. To finish, if someone, from Paris (in France) is using this tool, I can pay him or her to form me on this tool.

Under the heading, SAP BPC 5.0, click on "Application help and Installation Guide".
This will take you to the document repository in SAP Marketplace. You will get the documents which will provide you with the basic understanding of the tool.
However, you will need S-user ID to ligon to SAP Marketplace.

Need help to open audios attached in a PDF file

I just need help. I have ordered a reviewer online that has audios and texts in a pdf file. I was told to download the latest adobe reader on my computer. I have done the same thing on my ipad mini. I am not so technical with regards to these things. Therefore I need help. I can access the audios on my computer but not on my ipad.
I want to listen to audios with scripts or texts on them so i can listen to them when i am on the go. I was also informed that these files should work in any device. How come the audios doesnt work on my ipad.
Please help me on what to do.

You need to buy a PDF reader that supports them. My suggestion is PDF Expert from Readdle ($US 9.99)

I used List Directory on advanced IO , to list all .. the Name is the same for all ... then i used Name_ concateneted with Serial(typed)* .. this command serial* ll list all serials equal the typed , in my case , ll exist only one , cuz its a count this serial .Then i pass the path to the delete , and its done !

i need help, my ipod touch is not recognized by windows like a memory card or a harddisk.
i would like to transfer the files from pc to my ipod touch without useing itunes.
as i see theres some people here that theires ipod touch are recongnzed as a digitl camra, mine is reconzied as nothing, some help plz.

Your Touch is working correctly. Currently, without unsupported third party hacks, the Touch has NO disc mode. It will only show up in iTunes.

Right now, you don't. The SDK is scheduled to be released in Feburary. Then developers will be able to write programs that will be loadable.

Weird error message need help..

SO.. i havent updated my itunes in a while because i keep getting this weird message.. it comes up when im almost done installing the newest/newer versions of itunes. it says
"the feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable" "click ok to try again or enter an alternate path to a folder containing the installation package 'iTunes.msi' in the box below"
now when ever i choose a file from the browse box it replies with this message "the file 'xxx' is not a valid installation package for the product iTunes. try to find the installation package iTunes.msi in a folder from which you can install iTunes."

With that one, let's try the following procedure.
First, head into your Add/Remove programs and uninstall your QuickTime. If it goes, good. If it doesn't, we'll just attend to it when we attend to iTunes.
Next, download and install the Windows Installer CleanUp utility:

Now launch Windows Installer CleanUp ("Start > All Programs > Windows Install Clean Up"), find any iTunes and/or QuickTime entries in the list of programs in CleanUp, select those entries, and click “remove”.
Next, we'll manually remove any leftover iTunes or QuickTime program files:
(1) Open Local Disk (C:) in Computer or whichever disk programs are installed on.
(2) Open the Program Files folder.
(3) Right-click the iTunes folder and select Delete and choose Yes when asked to confirm the deletion.
(4) Right-click the QuickTime folder and select Delete and choose Yes when asked to confirm the deletion. (Note: This folder may have already been deleted if QuickTime was successfully removed using Add/Remove Programs earlier.)

(7) Restart your computer.
Now try another iTunes install. Does it go through properly now?

Hold down the Option key while you boot your Mac. Then, it should show you a selection of devices. Click your flash drive and it will boot from that.

Need help adobe bridge cc output module

I need help. I have an assignment I'm held up on completing because the adobe cc bridge does not have the output modue I need. I followed the adobe instructions page to the letter. I copied and pasted the output module folder to the adobe bridge cc extensions folder in programs/commonfiles/adobe. The only thing is the instructions then say to paste the workspace file into the workspace folder located below the bridge extensions folder. I don't have a workspaces folder there or anywhere. I even tried must making one and adding the file to it, but no go. can someone PLEASE help me with this? I have an assignment due like now that requires the use of the output modue.thanks!
