Need HELP FAST! Edited in FCP, need to burn a DVD of HD footage to SD PAL

I have tried to read the threads and sort out my problem, but no luck. I really hope someone can help.
Here's the gist....
I show up for a rehearsal for an event I have to shoot tomorrow. They asked me to shoot something today. I shot and edited a 10 minute video in HDV, 1080i, using FCP. I now need a PAL DVD that they can play about 10 hours from now. I exported using Compressor (not sure if I specified any type of audio) using mp2v settings for PAL. I can see it in the simulation, but no audio. it will also not let me burn a DVD to even check if the audio is there, saying it doesn't even FIND the video or audio, even though the file size is almost 400MB.
Any help or feedback would be GREATLY appreciated.
Power Mac G5 using OS 10.4.11
DVD Pro Studio 4
Cheers.... but not here at the moment.

Put your HDV timeline in a DV sequence.
Export as a PAL DV (anamorphic 16:9)
Drop that file in iDVD. The latest version should encode it as 16:9.
Give to client.
In the meantime, do some reading on this forum regarding the HDV to DV translation as well as start at the beginning of the DVD Studio Pro manual. There is a lot of useful information contained here and there that you need to master.
Good luck,
x

You may be able to find iDVD as part of the iLife 11 Retail Package. It is no longer sold by Apple, but you may find it on eBay or Amazon.
Other options include Toast from Roxio.

  • In FCX I need to burn a DVD that will be either a Region 0 or Region 2 per a festival requirement- what Region does FCX default burn to?

Hello!  I need to burn DVDs from FCX that are going to London - they are asking that they be Region 0 or Region 2 - what is the default Region that FCX burns to so that I know I am burning it to the correct region?  I need it to play when it gets there - this is a film festival submission - Thanks!

Region coding is largely a dead concept.  Most better DVD players will play any region.

  • I need to know what software i need to burn a dvd from my videos

Is there software to burn dvd's from my videos to play on my blueray

If your BluRay player also plays SD video DVDs you will be fine if you use iDVD.
Why is there no iDVD on my new Mac? How do I get it and how do I install it?

  • HELP!!!  - Exporting to Quicktime & Burning a DVD

Ok I bet you will all laugh at me for asking this which is probably the most simple thing to do...
I want to Burn a Regular DVD of a movie I have made in Final Cut Pro.
I tried exporting it as a QuickTime Movie
    Current Settings
    Sound & Video
    Self-Contained Movie.
When it finished exporting the File was 24GB in size! (Movie is 1 hr 50mins) and when I played it in QuickTime the quality was the same as the Viewer in Final Cut. i.e very Low quality and grainy... and the subtitles which were done in Final Cut were blocky and Low Resolution...? How do I export to DVD quality? Maybe something I need to adjust with the settings? I shot the footage on regular MinDV tapes (in Standard DV mode) on some pretty decent cameras (Sony Z1U & Sony PD-150) – the footage was in NTSC for some and PAL for the rest.
I just want to Export to DVD quality at the regular NTSC (American Format) to be sent to a TV station. It seem that the Export is not outputting at the highest possible quality? The footage itself was Log and Captured to a LaCie 1TB drive, straight from the tapes. – Don’t know if that has any bearing on this?

I thought the final thing would look better but it looks really bad which is funny because the footage shot looks far better than that when just played back on a camera.
How did you view the tapes played on your camera? Did you connect your camera to a TV and watch it that way?
When you digitized your video, did you do so through firewire? It's a simple question, but I want to be sure.
How did you view the FCP project? Did you only watch the viewer and canvas? Did you know that you could watch your project on a TV by connecting your camera to your computer and to a TV?
If you digitized via firewire, then you have the exact same file on tape as you do on your computer.
If you didn't alter that file in FCP by recompressing it, or color-correcting it, then your self-contained QT export is identical in quality to what's on your tape.
If you have a decent sized monitor (say 20" or higher) and you play a DV/NTSC clip in QT on it, the size of the clip window relative to it's resolution will be fairly small on your monitor. You may want to make the window larger so that you can see it better, but you will be distorting the video and the viewing quality will be poor.
Burning a DVD might be your solution because you plan to go to DVD anyway, but a DVD will re-compress your footage and there WILL be a quality loss at this point. That is normal because it's taking a 24GB file and making a 4GB file. Some info is bound to be lost.
If you want to confirm the actual quality of your edit, connect your camera to your Mac via firewire and make sure the camera is in VTR mode. Connect the camera to the TV just as you would have to view your raw tape.
Open FCP and make sure of the following settings:
Under the View menu make sure the video playback is set to Apple Firewire NTSC and the External video is set to All Frames.
    View your edit.

  • Help, I don't know how to burn a DVD!

    Hello,
Not sure where to post this question but I need help with the DVD player part of my computer. It isn't iDVD I'm talking about either.
Okay so I own this collection of Billy Blanks DVD's and so I want to burn one of them onto a blank disc. I insert the original Billy Blanks into the drive. Then DVD player pops up on the bottom. I first hit New Burn Folder under File (I think) then I label it Billy Blanks. I then hit Burn Disc under the same spot (or just Burn when the box pops up) and then it says insert blank disc. So I put the blank disc in and the box that says burn disc stays up and the cancel button blinks. Then nothing happens at all. The new burn folder is always empty. The one time I did manage to get it burn the disc icon showed up in the burn folder but when I try to open it, it says the original can't be found.
How do I burn a DVD? What am I doing wrong here? I just don't get it. I hope this question makes sense.

  • FCP Video files burn to DVD, Only gets audio when played

    Hi,
I know this has been asked many times, but, it's late at night and I'm looking for a quick answer please.
I burnt ideo clips, which I have exported thru FCP, and burn them straight onto a DVD thru the Finder.
The person who got the DVD said he only gets audio from the clips, so, he can't see them.
Have many ideas of what I should do, but, what is the most common solution to this problem?

#48 - Cannot view DVCPRO HD or HDV or ProRes on my computer.
Shane's Stock Answer #48 - Cannot view DVCPRO HD, HDV or ProRes QT files on your computer.
The DVCPRO HD, HDV and ProRes codecs only comes with FCP. If your computer does not have FCP installed, it cannot view these quicktime files. It doesn't matter if it is a Mac or PC, without FCP installed, you cannot view these files.
If you need to view ProRes material, you can download the ProRes decoder (mac and windows compatible) for ProRes
    http://support.apple.com/downloads/AppleProRes_QuickTime_Decoder_1_0_forWindows.
    http://support.apple.com/downloads/AppleProRes_QuickTime_Decoder_1_0_forMac
If your footage was captured as DVCRO HD you can buy the Calibrated DVCPRO HD decoder:
    http://www.calibratedsoftware.com/QDVCProHD.asp
HDV, XDCAM? Calibrated has you covered too:
    http://www.calibratedsoftware.com/QXD.asp
If you have MXF files from a P2 camera and you need to view the footage on a computer without FCP, you can download P2CMS from Panasonic:
    http://www.panasonic.com/business/provideo/p2-hd/downloads-and-updates.asp
Or you need the other party to compress the footage into a format your computer can play, like H.264.

  • I have extended video footage taken on my ipad that I need to burn to dvd.  Tried imovie and final cut.  Final Cut rendering time was extremely long. What is easiest way to accomplish my goal?

I am a video technology teacher and coach at a high school in NJ.  I have footage of a basketball scrimmage that I need to get from my iPad onto a DVD.  I tried importing it into iMovie without success.  I have imported it into Final Cut Pro but the rendering time makes the process very cumbersome with 7/8 hours of rendering time to create a quick time file to then use with iDVD.  Is there a quicker way to accomplish this.

The Mac does not come with a Blu-ray burner. So you would be burning a Blu-ray compatible file to a standard DVD-5 or DVD-9. Neither of which are ideal for authoring Blu-ray content.
Do an exhaustive search online about Blu-ray authoring and disk creation. This is not something for the hobbyist video creator (and I say hobbyist in the sense that you're not creating thousands of copies for mass distribution, so no one take offense.)
Blu-ray is expensive and requires a lot of planning and prep to do it right. But you can't burn an official Blu-ray disc on a Mac as they stand. And, Compressor doesn't burn discs, it only creates files. DVD Studio Pro would be the app that would burn the Blu-ray disc, and DVDSP has not been upgraded since long before Blu-ray came on the scene.

  • Trying to get my fcp project to burn to dvd at the highest quality? Ive used compressor and then tried to put it in dvdsp put its not working. I am having problems with the audio or when i burn it , i cant play the dvd? any help would be appreciated

Ive used compressor and then tried to put it in dvdsp put its not working. I am having problems with the audio or when i burn it , i cant play the dvd? any help would be appreciated

I suspect you are attempting to burn an HD DVD, which will not play on a DVD player...
But if you provide more details such as the settings you are applying in Compressor, then we would be able to provide you more accurate information.
How are you adding the files to Compressor?
In FCP, what are your footage properties (command-9) and sequence settings (command-0)

  • What do I need to burn a dvd if my mac says it doesnt support SuperDrive

I have a Mac OS X. When i open iDvd it says:
Your Machintosh does not have a supported SuperDrive. Please note that while you will be able to work with iDvd projects you will not be able to burn a DVD disc.
I checked under About this Mac and under CD-Write it only says -R, -RW
I made a movie on iMovie and therefore the only way to get it on a dvd would be through iDVD...right?
So what do I do now? Do I have to buy something? How much will it cost?

    Welcome Prisiclaz
If your mac doesn't have an internal burner you can still use an external S-Drive/burner (via firewire) and it should work fine. Lacie makes ext. fw S-Drives for macs or you can make your own like I did with a pioneer 110 or 111 and a standard FW 400/800 enclosure:

  • How do I, and what do I need to burn a DVD that works in a regular DVD.....

player, I burned a movie I got of of itunes twice to blank DVDs but neither one will play in our DVD player. What am I doing wrong?

If you have a Super Drive in your MacBook, you can use the Disk Utility to make a disk image from an unprotected DVD (for example, one that has been burned before is not copy-protected). As the "format" for the disk image, you can choose "CD/DVD Master". Once you've created a disk image, you can use the Disk Utility again to burn that image to a blank DVD.

  • HVX200 vs. SDX900 -- for FILM LOOK edited in FCP

What are the latest thoughts on relative strengths & demerits of the two cameras, for shooting movies to edit in FCP, then output to tape & DVD, as well as projection and blowups? It seesm to be a hotly contested question, and the more opinions I can tally the more I learn. - THANKS!

Zebulun - I certainly agree with your point about the sensibility and skill of the operator being the main issue.. (I'm sure Rembrandt could paint very well with amateur brushes). At the same time, though, I want to research this as thoroughly as possible. One controversy is the SDX's ability to look filmic yet sharp when blown up. Some say true HD looks far better, while others debate that vigorously. One discussion on the Panasonic site got so rancorous the moderator closed down the thread! - Anyhow. Thanks for your input. I'm inclined toward the SD beause of workflow and bigger size of the camera.

  • Import DVDs, Edit, Burn New DVD

I have a friend that basically wants to import DVDs he's recorded into his Mac, edit and title them, then burn new DVDs.
He really wants to be able to get the .VOB files off his DVDs, edit the footage, then make a new DVD.
Is Final Cut Express designed for this, or can it be done in iMovie '09?

Getting the files from the DVD into FCE is the tricky bit.
    Try this:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=11617624&#11617624
Once edited export from FCE as a QuickTime Movie export to iDVD, then burn the finshed result.
