Need help going from dial-up internet to wireless internet on an eMac.

I have an eMac that is running 10.5.6 (if that matters) and it has an AirPort card, AirPort Extreme (0x14E4, 0x4E) but all I have is dial-up and would like to upgrade to a wireless connection. My question is, what do I need? Do I need a modem and a router? or just a router or just a modem?

You need a modem, and at some point, the wireless connection needs to be bridged to a wired device. If the modem itself doesn't have wireless capabilities or you have multiple computers, get a wireless router as well.

  • Need help going from as2 to as3 with root

    Hi guys I'm only just getting into AS2, back then I would use _root to access the root of the timeline.
    I am trying ot do the same thing in AS but have been unsuccesful
    I've tried
      MovieClip(root).myinstancename_mc.gotoAndStop(2);
    but get
    TypeError: Error #1009: Cannot access a property or method of a null object reference.
    at myfile_fla::viewback_mc_5/manageMouseClick()[myfile_fla.viewback_mc_5::frame1:8]
    Any help would be great

    if you had a movieclip with instance name myinstancename_mc on the root timeline when that code executed, you wouldn't see that error message.  ie, there's nothing wrong with your syntax.
    the most common problems would be typos, myinstancename_mc in more than one keyframe and myinstancename_mc not existing when that code executes.

  • Need help getting from 10.5.8 to 10.6.

    If you are not sure of what you are doing,If you are worried about losing anything when doing a major systems upgrade/update,
    Before embarking on a major OS upgrade, it would be wise, advisable and very prudent if you backup your current system to an external connected and Mac formatted Flash drive OR externally connected USB, Thunderbolt or FireWire 800, Mac formatted hard drive. Then, use either OS X Time Machine app to backup your entire system to the external drive OR purchase, install and use a data cloning app, like CarbonCopyCloner or SuperDuper, to make an exact and bootable copy (clone) of your entire Mac's internal hard drive. This step is really needed in case something goes wrong with the install of the new OS or you simply do not like the new OS, you have a very easy way/procedure to return your Mac to its former working state.
    Older version of CarbonCopyCloner found here.
    http://mac.filehorse.com/download-carbon-copy-cloner/2734/
    Older versions of SuperDuper can be found on the SuperDuper Website and Homepage.

    Then, determine if your Mac meets ALL minimum system install requirements.

    To install Snow Leopard for the first time, you must have a Mac with:
    An Intel processor
    An internal or external DVD drive, or DVD or CD Sharing
    At least 1 GB of RAM (additional RAM is recommended)
    A built-in display or a display connected to an Apple-supplied video card supported by your computer
    At least 5 GB of disk space available, or 7 GB of disk space if you install the developer tools.

  • Need help switching from cable modem to DSL

    Howdy all. I've had an iMac for a few months now and I'm still clueless. LOL (PC user for years). Please list all the steps I need to do to switch from dial up to DSL. All help is appreciated and needed.
    Thanks.
    craftology.

    As you dont say where in the world you are it is impossible to give specific information. However this is how it works in the UK. ISP's dont install anything for you. You sign up with the ISP, you purchase a package, this varies from the speed i.e 2mb, 8mb 16mb 20mb per sec.
    You then have options such as unlimited downloads, or a monthly data cap. Then you pay for your first month usually with a debit/credit card and setup a direct debit from your bank account there after. Some contracts are for 12 months others are 3 months and some are 1 month at a time.
    But the thing you need to be aware of in the UK if you already have cable then this usually means you have cable TV and a cable provided phone line. In the UK you cannot get DSL on a cable phone line you have to get a British Telecom line.
    You then provide your BT phone number to the ISP. Then after they process your payment they inform you as to when your line will be activated and then they send you a preconfigured ADSL router. You just then follow the instruction plug it in and it works. Most boxes have WPA setup already and have the password printed on the bottom of the router. An engineer does not come to your house unless the is a problem and they detected a line fault that requires and engineer visit.
    Of course if you are a business you can pay for a engineer visit to setup the network as well but this costs money.

  • Help going from 10.2.8 to 10.4

    I purchased a copy of 10.4 from apple.com and inserted the DVD in the drive and the installer does not show up. I tried troubleshooting (booting from the disk, which I am not sure I did right) and that did not work either. Any help on how to force the computer to boot from the disk or some other thing I may be missing would be helpful. I am a mac novice and need help!!

    Insert the DVD in the drive. When it has mounted, tell the computer to Restart. As soon as you hear the "bong", hold down the C key on your computer. Keep holding it down until you see the "spinning icon" on the screen and you hear the DVD drive working, indicating that you are starting up from the DVD. The installer will then run automatically.
    If trouble persists, in your next message, specify just what kind of computer this is.

  • Need help with n8 dialer and voicemail screens - e...

    N8 questions.  In this scenario, you call your VM and as y ou are listening to the messages, you need to open the dialer to delete/save messages, then have to close the dialer and then choose end call. There are 6 steps (open dialer, call, open dialer again, save/delete the vm, close the dialer and then end the call).
    Anyone know how to do this more efficiently?  Can you end the call while still in the dialer? Is there a way to add a hang up feature to the dialer.  No offence, but this kind of mult-step stuff is annoying and doesn't exist on apple or android.  thoughts?

    Using the original (un-modified) SpryMenuBarVertical.css as our foundation, I added the following style rules
    <style>
    ul.MenuBarVertical {
         width: 145px;
         border: none;
    ul.MenuBarVertical li {
         text-align: center;
         width: 145px;
    ul.MenuBarVertical a {
         background-color: #EB071C;
    @media screen, projection {
         ul.MenuBarVertical li.MenuBarItemIE      {
              background: #EB071C;
    </style>
    In passing, have a look here http://validator.w3.org/check?verbose=1&uri=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.dnawebcreations.com%2Fjump_in dex.html. This shows the improper use of the ol element.

    I purchased CC membership for one year in December 2013. As I hardly ever need InDesign or Illustrator, I would like to change my order to Photoshop (and Lightroom) only. I find managing my account online very confusing. Is there a number I could call? Or some other way to get rid of the software I don't need, and that I did not re-order after my one-year membership was over?

  • In need of help going from Windows SAP GUI to Mac/Java SAP GUI 7.20

    Hi Everyone, first post...I want to thank you in advance for any assistance you are able to provide.
    I got everything working except for 1 out of 6 servers I need to connect to - of course this is the most important one.
    It all comes down to the conversion of saplogon.ini to the new file format, instead of using the GUI to make a list I have created 6 individual .sapc files that I run directly. I found some converters but only had so much success with them, nothing solid and 100% full proof.
    I'm going to post my windows config files and maybe you can tell me why logging into this system GP8 doesn't work from my mac?

    Thanks so much for your time

    Hello John,
    please try the "SAP GUI for Java Configuration Generator Scripts" available at http://scn.sap.com/docs/DOC-25456#section9 .
    For using the message server to connect to GP8, the information of the port number of the message server for GP8 is missing. For direct connection to GP8, it might work to use the connection string "conn=/H/gp8001.trans.de/S/3288" .
    Best regards

  • Need help going to error page from jsf component value change event

    Afternoon all,
    I have a jsp page which uses jsf components and when one of the jsf combo boxes components handles an value change event, the method 'handleTestComboValueChange' is fired.
    Within this method if an error is caught I would like to display an error page instead of the currently displayed page.
    Can some one tell me how to do this. I tried to use getFacesContext().getExternalContext().redirect("errorpage.jsp"); but I just got an illegalStackException error.
    Any help would be great.
    Thanks in advance,
    Lex

  • Need help recovering from glibc upgrade [SOLVED]

    I recently did pacman -Syu on a system because I was having trouble with a softphone utility. I installed Arch on this laptop perhaps 6 months ago and have not done many upgrades since that time. Of course I've been waylaid by the recent glibc changes and I'm trying to recover. I think I've gotten a good deal of the way there by researching the issue and attempting a few solutions. But I'm quite confused by what I'm now seeing, so I want to ask for help here.
    First, let me point out that I posted in this forum yesterday about certain events that led to my problems--see that thread at https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?pid=1186089. Essentially, I followed the wrong set of instructions and did pacman -Syu --ignore glibc pacman -Su before doing pacman -U http://pkgbuild.com/~allan/glibc-2.16.0 … pkg.tar.xz. That broke pacman, which, being the most current version, was expecting that glibc version to be on the system.
    To remedy the problem I followed the procedure outlined in that thread--namely booting from a USB drive on the affected system and running pacman -U http://pkgbuild.com/~allan/glibc-2.16.0 … pkg.tar.xz --root /mnt/brokenRoot. Things kinda started to work then: pacman would run, but I noted that my mouse cursor was not responding. I decided to try and finish the upgrade and so ran pacman -Syu again using the --ignore glibc switch as suggested at https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/De … iki:usrlib.
    Things started to get really weird after that. For example, at a certain point during the boot process--I believe when the console is getting ready to switch to framebuffer (or whatever point that's called where screen resolution changes from vga)--and the screen just freezes. The laptop won't accept any keyboard or mouse input and just appears to be hung. I was able to chroot in to the system and cause the sshd daemon to start though, and have discovered that I can ssh in and do things.
    I upgraded the kernel again today in an ssh session, which gave some quite strange results: mkinitcipio is searching for modules under /lib, whereas as I understand it, /lib is now supposed to contain nothing and is to be simply a symlink to /usr/lib. But I can't build an init image on this system unless a /modules directory is present under /lib. Well, the /lib directory was there, so I symlinked /usr/lib/modules to /lib and mkinitcpio ran fine after that. So what's up here? Why is mkinitcpio expecting the /modules directory to be under /lib?
    Just as weird, there seems to be a newer glibc version. But I can't upgrade to it: I get the message "glibc: /lib exists in filesystem." Now, having read https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/De … iki:usrlib I know that there are suggestions for remedying this. But when I run the commands suggested there to try and find out what packages own files in /lib, it looks to me that all files there are owned by glibc 2.16.0-1:
    find /lib -exec pacman -Qo -- {} +
    error: cannot determine ownership of directory '/lib'

    Ok. So I'm officially dumb--in case that wasn't already apparent. I thought I'd tried upgrading glibc after I'd deleted the symlink to /usr/lib/modules (I deleted it a couple of times). But I was apparently wrong: after just now deleting it upon reading your post, I see that the upgrade has worked and that  the system reboots into its former normal state. So. it looks like it's fixed and like this thread can be marked solved. Still I'm curious: will mkinitcpio continue looking for modules in /lib?
    Thanks,
    James

  • Need help connecting safari, entourage, ichat etc to wireless internet

    My macbook is my first apple, I've never used Mac OS X before, and I'm finding all the new terminology intimidating, so I would greatly appreciate any help you can give me, but please talk down to me like I'm 10 years old, or I won't understand. Here is my problem: On the windows side (I use parallels), everything runs the way it should, there is no problem connecting to the internet, my mail comes through Outlook like it should. But I bought a mac for the purpose of becoming acquainted with Mac OS, and this is a disaster! On the mac side, airport is working and is connected to my wireless system. Firefox opens and works like a charm, connecting me to everything I need on the internet. But Safari WILL NOT open, though I swear the proxy settings, etc. are identical to those in Firefox, and neither will iChat, Entourage, or Messenger for Mac. I'm guessing that they all use the settings in System Preferences while Firefox uses its own set, but I see NO DIFFERENCE in the two sets of settings. What am I doing wrong? Please help!!
    PS, LOVE the dashboard thing!!

    Strange - I use all the same Apps you do and I never gave any specific consideration to how each individual app was connecting. If your airport shows you're 'connected' then the whole system is talking - or at least it should be.
    On a side note - give it some time - once you've unlearned some Windows-specific things you will really appreciate OS X. But it's not THAT different...perhaps getting a mouse with a right-click button will make you feel better. I'm not into the single button crtl-click deal...
    Regarding Entourage not connecting...have you setup your accounts properly? I don't even have Safari installed so I can't help you there. Same goes for iChat. Make sure you have good account info in there. I don't have any iChat buddies but it still connects me when I log-in using AOL.
    Check those account settings...

    RETURN REFCURSOR;
    END;
    LAST FUNCTION ENDs WITH ERROR
    Error(13,7): PL/SQL: ORA-22905: cannot access rows from a non-nested table item

    2. The major purpose is to get a simplest way to create a parameterized function who can return a table like output. 2nd function has no use instead i was testing the result of First Function like thisIf you just want to select from a select, you should use a view not a function.
    1. which program is more help ful for writing and executing queries bcoz after using Query Analyzer of Microsoft It seems difficult to work on SQL Developer.
    sqlplus? If you are having difficulty learning new tools because of an old one you used, probably best to forget the old one and concentrate on learning the new one because it will be different. This goes for the database itself also.
    2. Can DMLs be used within a Function.Yes, you just can't execute the function in another SQL statement if it modifies data and this is a good thing.
    3. Can temporary tables be used within a function.Unfortunately yes, but they shouldn't be unless you are in a slowest application competition.
    5. Each Function which is a Table Function must be accompanied with Type Definitions?? its a bit longer way of doing the things than SQL ServerThat is why it is better to use views instead, is there any reason you want a select that you can select from inside a function?
    SQL Server for last 9 years thats why i refer this toolThat is not in itself a problem, if you try and do what you did in SQLServer in Oracle, that will be a problem though.

  • Need help switching from LiveCycle to Distiler.

    Hey, guys.  Total n00b here.  I am having problems selecting Distiller as my default form editor.
    My PC runs:
    XP Pro Service Pack 3
    Office Pro 2003
    Acrobat Pro 9
    Last week I could not print anything doe to an error with my print spooler.  Microsoft's suggestion was to edit the registry and remove all 3rd party print software.  I am assuming this created a hit on Acrobat's functionality.  In the past when I would edit fields, Distiller was my default choice.  But ever since my registry hack, when I Go to Forms >> to edit, I no longer am able to use Distiller.  My default is now LiveCycle Designer 8.2.  I would like to go back to using Distiller, but I do not know how to change back.  Is there something really, really easy I'm missing here, or do I simply need to uninstall and reinstall the entire Acrobat Pro 9 package?  I have confirmed that Distiller is still installed on my machine.
    I followed this Microsoft KB article if anyone thinks this will help.
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/810894
    Thanks!

    Michael,
    Thanks for your response.  Unfortunately, I do not know a lot about the teminology associated with, or the functionality of Acrobat, but the person I'm trying to help knows even less.  I'm sure this is probably a really simple fix, but that I'm not describing what's going on well enough for someone to figure this one out.  I'll post the e-mail that I received about the situation:
    Almost all seems to be running well. There is still a delay when I send a job to the printer, happens - but slowly.
    The problem I do have is that now when I open a pdf, under forms drop down it only allows me to edit the form with Adobe LiveCycle Designer 8.2, not thru Distiller or Acrobat as I could last week……Designer does not import or save(bring with it) any data already entered on the form. Before I could, with the click of a button, switch back and forth between entering information on the form and editing the form and its fields.
    I don’t know if this is something that occurred as a default or exactly where Designer came from. I don’t mind it being there, just want to be able to choose what program I use, and at this time I prefer Acrobat/Distiller.
    Please let me know what I need to do to get things back to ‘normal’
    Again, thanks again for the respones.  I don't know, but maybe I should just uninstall/reinstall Acrobat and *HOPE* that it is running as it once did.
    Thanks!
