Need help guide overclocking newbie msi p43 neo

Hello i just wanted to ask for guide help tutorial ( no OC experience)  on how to do a mild overclock my cpu e7400 + (msi p43 neo) my main goal is 3.0 Ghz with a 1333 fsb. Im still researching guides but its still a bit complicated. My concerns are on the bios  high incriments on the cpu voltage adjuster i can only adjust with increments of 1.141 next is 1.441 then 1.641 is it too high? i am using the default bios. Im not planning on adjusting my memory its at 800 Mhz
ATM at the bios i can see my default fsb is at 266 x 10.5 = 2.8 Ghz my plan is adjusting it to 286 x 10.5 = 3.03 Ghz.
My question is how will i raise the fsb to 1333? by adjusting the fsb on the bios am i only adjusting the cpu clock? and is the cpu voltage same as the vcore( the thing they adjust when OCing ) which i cant locate on the bios only cpu voltage..
And as a backup plan if all fails when trying to OC flashing bios is the right thinkg to do?

just a few first comments, so that you don't get onto the wrong track:

The FSB Frequency is the base frequency for both the CPU Frequency and the memory frequency.  The CPU Frequency is always calculated like this:
(real) FSB Clock Speed x CPU Ratio/Mutiplier = CPU Frequency
The Memory Frequency is adjusted via the FSB/DRAM Ratio Option.  If the FSB Frequency is set to 266 MHz the memory will run @DDR2-800 if the FSB/DRAM Ratio is set to 1:1l5...:
266 MHz FSB x 1.5 = 400 MHz (= DDR2-800 effectively)
When you raise the FSB Frequency you have to make sure that the FSB/DRAM Ratio you have set in BIOS will not overclock your memory beyond its specifications.  It is not a good idea to leave the FSB/DRAM Ratio set to "AUTO" when you are overclocking.

Have you browsed through all the values the BIOS allows you to set in order to check if there are other values available?  Setting the CPU Voltage to 1.441 or 1.641 is not really something you should do.  1.441V is already quite high but 1.641V is definately too much.  Leave the CPU Voltage on AUTO for now and see how far you can get without adjusting the CPU Voltage (check the actual Voltage with CPU-Z).

You probably won't need to increase any critical voltage levels for that.  This is a really, really moderate overclock.  Just see what happens if you adjust the FSB Clock Speed to 286 MHz without changing anything else in BIOS (well, keep Spread Spectrum and DOT disabled at all times when you overclock),

No, that is definately the wrong thing to do.  If the system refuses to start after you changed certain BIOS Options, clear CMOS with main A/C power cable removed from your PSU.  This will erase all settings and make the BIOS prompt you to reset everything.

    I just got my new computer fresh from the shop:
    cpu - c2d e5200
    cpu fan - arctic cooler freezer pro 7
    mobo - msi p43 neo

    case - silverstone ps02b with two case fans
    bios version is 1.7
    OS - windows xp sp3
    I want to do a moderate oc on this baby, but I'm afraid since it's my first time. I read a lot from the internet and also the manual but still have several questions.
    1) I understand that in this mobo there is no need to adjust the pci and pci-e bus?
    2) I plan to do a modest oc - raise it only to 3.0ghz. the bios has gray "auto" next to all of the voltages brackets. can I keep it in "auto"?
    does "auto" means stock voltages or will the voltages rise when I'll raise the fsb?
    I don't want to "overvolt" just yet.
    3) I understand that I need to change DOT, c1e, EIST, spread spectrum to "disable". but I want to keep the EIST and c1e for power conservation. will that effect my oc, considering it's a modest one?
    4) is raising the fsb from 200->240 keeping the multiplier 12.5 (240*12.5=3.0ghz) and changing the FSB:DRAM to 1.66 a good option or should i try another one?
    5) is there other items I should change in the bios?
    If there is anything else that you can suggest, pls do. thank you in advance for your kind reply.

    if your going to oc it in 3.0 ghz just raised the fsb 286.. reboot and see if theirs and error..

    CPU: Intel Quad Core Q9400 (stock: 2.66Ghz 1333Mhz FSB) (running @: 3.2Ghz 1600Mhz FSB)
    Motherboard: MSI P43 Neo F (1.A or 1.10 BIOS)
    Memory: G Skills 2x2GB DDR 1066 5-5-5-15 (F2-8500CL5-2GBPK) (running @ 800 2.1v only, not stable at 1066 2.1v)
    Video Card: MSI ATI R4870
    PSU: OCZ GameXStream, OCZGXS700 7OO watts, 4x +12V@18A outputs
    Cooling heatsinks are all stock, but air flow is good with the new TT case.
    Current voltage settings:
    CPU Voltage: 1.335V
    CPU GTL REF0: Auto
    CPU GTL REF1: Auto
    DRAM Voltage: 2.1V
    MCH or NB Voltage: 1.328V
    VTT FSB Voltage: 1.2V

    Does anyone have the similar setup or any idea why I can't get the system running at 3.2GHz @ 1600FSB and 4GB @1066MHz ?
    I've ran multiple tests with PRIME95 and Memtest64, and was unsuccessful.
    System actually got through Prime95's small and large FFT test OK, but failed the Blend test. So I'm leaning towards the memory.
    But I got LOTS of errors from Memtest86, while memory set at 1066 @ 5-5-5-15 2.1V
    What voltage should I be tweaking the CPU, NB and SB to get the RAM to pass Memtest?
    I'm not asking much, but it seems these overclocked DDR2-800 RAM aren't that stable at 1066 without tweaking other components. B/C the system definitely wasn't stable with CPU/FSB @ stock speed and RAM set at 5-5-5-15, 1066, 2.1V
    Don't know why they call it DDR2-1066 when it only runs stable at DDR2-800...

  • *Solved* MSI P43 Neo-F DPC Latency Issue - Latest BIOS Fix

    Hi, I'd like to avail of the latest BIOS fix for the DPC latency problem on my MSI P43 Neo-F (MS-7519) 1.0.
    I'm currently using BIOS 1.9, I haven't flashed to 1.A yet. Does 1.A include a fix or is there another BIOS that's as up-to-date as 1.9 or 1.A that would have the fix, with any links to download? I'm thinking along the lines of the A7519ICI.1xx series, whatever is the latest.

    OK, so here's the story. I couldn't relax with those voltages showing up as they were, so I flashed my BIOS to A7519IMS.1A0 (1.A), which is the latest public release for the P43 Neo-F. I was previously on A7519IMS.190 (1.9) before today.
    When I flashed to A7519ICI.104, I noticed the version number was actually 1.10B4 (which I'm guessing can actually be expressed as 1.AB4 - a beta version for the latest public release, 1.A). The flash to A7519ICI.104 solved the DPC Latency issue, as when I used A7519IMS.190 (1.9) it was spiking.
    There is a happy ending. The flash to A7519IMS.1A0 (1.A) has also shown no spikes in the DPC Latency test. It seems the fix must be present in the latest public release BIOS for the P43 Neo-F after-all!
    This screen-shot was taken just a moment ago, proof that the issue has been resolved without a modified BIOS:
    Hope this helps anyone else out who is using the same motherboard and experiencing the same issues. Just get the latest public BIOS. No hassle!

  • MSI P43 Neo series FSB wall?

    After messing about quite a bit with this board with various CPU's and Memory, reading comments by other users and OC'ers on other boards, it seems I've come to the bottom of the problem with my Memory / CPU issue's on my board.
    First once again: the used hardware
    Board:MSI 7519 V1.0 P43 Neo-F mainboard
    CPU: Intel E6550 / E6600
    Cooler: Scythe Mine rev. B, stock fan (100mm @ 1500rpm)
    Memory: 2GB kit G.E.I.L. DDR2 800 cl5 "black dragon"
                4GB Corsair XMS2 pc8500 "dominator"
                2 x 1GB OCZ pc9200 900mhz "Special OPS" (not a kit)
                2x 512mb Hynix 667mhz cl4 OEM memory (not a kit)
    Graphics card: MSI X1550, MSI 9600GT 512 OC
    PSU: LC power 650W ATX 2.02 PSU / Raptox 550W ATX 2.01 PSU
    OS: Windows Vista SP1 x64 UK
    I've tried BIOS 1.3 and 1.6 (final versions only)
    Memory shows to be in "asymetric dual channel mode" in every piece of software you trow at it. However, preformance is good.
    Both Jumpers have been removed from the board, setting it to "333-400 mhz mode".
    CE1, Spread spectrum, Speedstep and "OC boost modes" are disabled.
    Memory is on auto (which results in 5-5-5-15) at 2.1V
    MCP voltage is on 1.100 (since I don't want it to go over for no reason)
    CPU core is at 1.375V in bios, resulting in 1.356~1.378V in CPUZ and Coretemp. (varies with every boot)
    I've tried with both my E6550 and a borrowed E6600, but for some reason, the board will not pass it's POST at any FSB higher than 415mhz.
    (resulting in 830mhz DDR2, and a 2904mhz for the E6550 and 3733mhz for the E6600 (at 1.388V))
    This all makes me wish I got the older E6600 instead, eventhough it gets quite hot. Which brings me to the topic of temps: E6550 OC after 1 hour Orthos = 54degrees. (and 33 / 39 idle) For some reason, Windows prefers core2, which Idle's a lot higher (39) than core1.(33)
    The E6600 got to the awefully high temperature of 68 degrees after 2 hours Orthos.
    But now the issue: As soon as I pop the FSB to 416, 417 or 420, the system will no longer boot, and I will get the "OC failed" message after shutting the power down.
    I've read quite a few reviews and many people seem to encouter these problems. Boards with same chipsets, seem to go to quite a bit higher. (435 being the worst one in the same price range: the Gigabyte DS3 P43 version.)
    Am I overlooking something? Would more voltage sort these problems? (I already went a bit overboard just to test)
    Are there settings I'm missing?
    Any help would be greatly appriciated!!!

    The MSI P43 Neo boards don't go over 414, 415 or 417mhz FSB.
    Nor do various other brands. I must say I haven't found/read about a P43 board that does. But I guess if you claim there 's such a board, it must exist.
    I'm done looking. Next time I'll buy a higher end board. Low end CPU + Low end board OC isn't a very good idea. I should've gone with a X48 MSI DDR2 board + E9650.

    I plan to take the Q6600 and put it on the MSI P43 Neo. This motherboard have a three-phase voltage and i'm in doubt can i overclock this cpu without consequences?

    Overclocking means operating a component or a set of components outside their actual specifications.  That means, whenever overclocking is involved, negative consequences (increased heat, signal distorsion, shortened component lifetime, sudden component death) always have to be counted in as a result of overclocking.  Users that do not accept these consequences should not even think about overclocking.  
    Yes, the P43 Neo has a limited voltage regulator/phase modulation architecture which, among other things, does not make it really the best choice for overclocking.  It is a cheap, low budget mainboard with limited capabilities.

  • MSI P43 Neo-F iP43 Memory Remap Question

    Planning on building the following system:
    MSI P43 Neo-F iP43 motherboard
    Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 CPU
    Force3D HD 4670 512MB GDDR3
    4GB RAM
    So, besides any issues anyone is aware of between the above components, my main query is whether this motherboard supports memory hole remapping (so I can see and use the whole 4gb in windows) and whether it does this automatically or via a BIOS option? I'll be using either Windows XP 64 BIT or VISTA 64 BIT.

    There is no option in bios (1.6) but using 64bit Mandriva Linux i have 0-3072MB then the last gig is mapped to 4096-5120MB so it skips the 3072-4096MB area used to PCI devices. this is using 4GB of Corsair XMS2 DDR2 800.

  • MSI P43 Neo 3F PCB 1.1 can't OC by switch at bus 333MHz

    My pc: E5200 R0, MSI P43 Neo 3F PCB 1.1 (latest bios ver 2.5), 2x2Gb KingMax 1066, Vga 7100GS, PSU AcBel E2 400W, Hdd Seagate 250Gb SATA2.
    When i adjust bus 200->266 by switch it work OK but 200->333 system can't boot and work. Is Mainboard wrong ? Thanks.

  • MSI P43 Neo-f & Nvidia 8800GTS issues

    I recently upgraded my 7600gs to an 8800gts the computer powers on and shows the windows loading screen then freezes. I can boot into safe mode as there are no graphics drivers installed, i can then un-install the drivers and boot into windows fine, once the drivers are installed it will freeze on the windows loading screen.
    The Nvidia 8800gts uses the same drivers as the 7600gs so that can't be the problem.
    The card works fine in my friends computer, he has an MSI P-35 mainboard.
    I tried booting another windows drive and exactly the same happens.
    I've tried using a friends 9800gt and exactly the same happens.
    Anyone have any idea what's wrong?

    Ram: 2GB 800Mhz OCZ Ballistix

    On the Nvidia site it gives me the same download link for both the 7600GS and the 8800GTS.
    I shall try Driver sweeper tomorrow and re-install the drivers and let you know...
    If it works in safe mode it can't be the board right? I was thinking about flashing the bios to the latest version. Though i've never flashed a bios and i've heard it should only be done as a last resort so i don't really  want to do it whilst the old video card works fine.

  • ** SOLVED ** MSI P43 Neo DPC Latency

    Hi,
    I'm having problems with audio stuttering - that I didn't have with my previous Asrock P43R1600Twins. Running dpclat, I'm getting spikes even at idle. The screenie is about the best it runs - this deteriorates!
    All the drivers are the latest, no wireless LAN. Other than this, it's a flyer. Dead stable, no other problems at all.
    Any ideas?

    Did you download and read the PDF on the PDC tool? If not do so as it shows how to ID the problem though the process of elimination.
    Is device manager clean, no ?,! or unknown devices? No addon cards other than video?

    Did you install the chipset drivers before installing the other drivers?
    The sound and Lan drivers on the MSI sight are not the latest available. Realtek has newer ones available. I use these on my P35 Neo2-FR without problems but be warned MSI could have custom drivers that may be different than the ones from Realtek.

    I know that these CPU temps are not aceptable, but as soon as my thermal grease arrives I'll use it with my TT cooler(current I'm on cooler box) and it will drop a lot.
    COOLING
    I just use:
    a 120mm fan in the lower front of the case sucking the (cool)air in,
    a 120mm fan in the middle back of the case blowing the (hot)air out,
    a 80mm fan fixed in the door case blowing the (hot) air out,
    a 80mm fan over the back of the VGA blowing air to the Northbridge heatsink,
    and (about next week) Thermaltake Big Thyphoon 120 VX with Artic Silver 5.
    The MSI N9800GTX is the best VGA cooler that I ever saw, it really does the job even in the extreme overclocks.

    After I did this OC, I used the machine for about 4 hours with no problem at all. I did some tests, including some benchmarks like Super PI and 3Dmark 2006, but I did not made any stress test(prime95, orthos) because I'm still using the cooler box and this will for sure overheat it beyond it's capacity, therefore this OC was just a preparation(test) for the real one that I'll do when my thermal grease and my TT cooler were in place, I think that the voltages still can suffer some variation with the advantage of the new cooler, but it will be worked in the right moment, after all overclocking is a long process, when I wrote "final results" to the title of this topic, I mean that this is the clock that I wanted to reach, but of course that still lacks some fine adjustments.
    The real objective of this test was to see:
    1. if the motherboard handles it stable.
    2. if there were no FSB walls to block my OC.
    3. if there were any voltage problems.
    4. if there were extreme overheating.(even with the cooler box)
    and I'm more than happy to see that it passed in all the tests so far.

  • Need help finding overclocking settings in BIOS on my Z97 Gaming 7

    Hello Folks!
    As the title states I need some help finding some settings in the BIOS to help in overclocking on my awesome new MSI Z97 Gaming 7 mobo! For instance I can't find anything related to Load Line Calibration, LLC. I am unable to find additional settings for PLL and what the settings that are there do, for instance CPU PLL, the options are something like LL and SB? There is no explanation for what either of these are. These may be pretty basic things in overclocking Intel. I should also mention that I am new to Intel processors and their mobo's. I have always used AMD cpu's and overclocking seemed a bit more straight forward. This is also the first MSI motherboard I have owned so I am also new to these. I have been a great fan of MSI GPU's for years and finally had the chance to buy a motherboard and while it has been a great experience thus far I seem to be slighty behind the learning curve here. I do appreciate all the help I am able to get. I have read the guides that I have seen others pointed towards and have not really found the information I am looking for there.

I am very familiar with overclocking on the AMD platform. I have previously owned and abused the PhenomII 965BE, 1055T FX-8320 and FX-8350. I guess switching from AMD to Intel and being confronted by so many new terms and settings in the BIOS I was kind of lost. I wasn't really too concerned with the PLL per say other than just desiring to know as much about my new system and motherboard as possible. I have always been a firm believer that to get the most out of your equipment you need to know it intimately, I guess I will get there with a bit of time and perseverance! I was really mainly trying to figure out where the LLC settings would be hidden or what they would be known as with an Intel based system, this setting is usually quite important when trying to stabilize higher overclocks. I am currently running and tinkering with an OC speed of 4.7-4.8GHz @ 1.275v with temps staying ~55C. I was hoping to push a little further and was trying to give myself the best possible advantage in doing so. Again, thanks for the help and information!!! 

  • Overclocking of MSI K8N neo platinium

    Before when I had just one memory chip(512mb in slot 1), I had no problem to run 235Mhz x10. All I had to do was the following :
    Put hdd in SATA 4
    Set AGP to 68Mhz
    Adjust cpu voltage from 1.45 - 1.55v
    Set mem. clock to 166Mhz (sense it will increase as you raise the FSB)
    Now I`ve bought one more identic memory chip. I have now 2x512MB memory placed in slot 1 and 3.
    I followed the same steps as above, but with terrible results. Max 215Mhz x10 stable.
    I`m pretty sure it`s not the memory chips that`s the problem, as they run stable
    with original settings ( witch is higher speeds (200Mhz) than those I run on the memory when overclocking (166 - 195Mhz).
    I would be greatfull for any tips or solutions that you might think would help me (and others) to reach better o/c results.

    try slots 1+2 instead of 3, i have found that i can't oc very well in 1+3 either.
