Need help - had to force quit iPhoto '09 and now I cannot see my photos

I just imported some photos and at the end when it asks for Keep Originals or Delete, I chose Delete and that action took me to a spinning beach ball. Since it did not complete for a few minutes, I decided to force quit the application.
I restarted it and realized that iPhoto did not have my imported pictures, and worse, it had successfully deleted the pictures from the camera!
Does anyone know of a way to somehow get those photos from somewhere/anywhere?

1 - it is recommended that you never have iPhoto delete your photos - import your photos and select do not delete - after dismounting the camera and verifying that the import went fine use your camera to format the media card - this both protects you from computer/software failures that can lose photos (as you just had) but also renews the media card format making such failures less likely
2 - at this time the only option you have is to use file recovery software like Media recover - http://www.mediarecover.com/ to recover the photos on your camera card

Yes, I have learned the hard way that I will always "keep originals" and delete/format offline.
I have downloaded mediarecover and it seems to be great. It took a long time to do the deep scan, so I stopped it midway, but it had found 30-odd pictures already! Thanks for the recommendation, I will be purchasing the software

I have upgraded my OS into Mountain Lion and now I cannot see any net storage disks. may someone help me? thanks

    Hi kiwirudy,
I've had the same problem more than once since I started trying to download my 14 April purchase of OS X Mountain Lion.
I found a property list called manifest.plist in my ~/Library/Application Support/AppStore folder which had a Boolean property called failed checked. I unchecked it and afterwards I was able to resume my download.
Here are some steps I've found useful:
    Close the Mac App Store.
make a copy of the  ~/Library/Application Support/AppStore folder. For some strange reason the Mac App Store likes to just delete it in some circumstances, which will mean that one has to start one's download again from the very beginning.
Double click on the manifest.plist in one's ~/Library/Application Support/AppStore folder.
This should open it in Property List Editor.
Expand all the nodes (holding down the alt key and clicking on the highest collapsed node should do it.
Find a key called failed of type Boolean and uncheck it.
Save the manifest.plist and close it.
    Open the Mac App Store.
The red message "an error has occured" should now be gone and one should be able to resume one's download.
In the event that the ~/Library/Application Support/AppStore folder gets deleted:
start the download again (it will start from the beginning), pause it and close the Mac App Store.
copy your backup copy of the pkg file back to its sub-folder (it's a numbered folder in the ~/Library/Application Support/AppStore folder).
Open the Mac App Store and resume your download.
It should continue from where it left off.
This has worked for me so far. I'm holding my breath. Don't know if I'll still be alive when it's finished.
    Regards
    Nic

  • I recently clicked on an iphoto 'upgrade' message I received and now I cannot see ANY of my photos!!  Desperate for help!  Please.  Thanks.

I recently 'upgraded' my iphoto because everytime I clicked on it,  I got a message telling me to do it.  Now,  I cannot see ANY of my pictures. Very frustrating. I've already gone to 'software updates' and tried that to no avail.  Please,  anyone... HELP!!!  Thanks!!!

There are 9 different versions of iPhoto and they run on seven different versions of the Operating System. The tricks and tips for dealing with issues vary from version to version and OS to OS. So before anyone can help, they need information to work with. Things like:
    - What version of iPhoto.
    - What version of the Operating System.
    - Details. What were you doing when the problem arose?
    - Did it ever work properly?
    - Are there error messages?
    - What steps have you tried already to solve the issue.
Anything else you can think of that might allow someone else to understand your issue.

  • HT4623 My phone show me update but it said i need at least 2.5gb of available storage and now i cant see my iphone on my pc

Hi My phone update but i cant do it from my phone and now i cant see my phone in my pc because of the update
my phone note is the i need at least 2.5 GB

Uninstall iTunes and all of its components as by following this guide exactly: Windows XP or Windows Vista/7, then download and install the latest version of iTunes from here: http://www.apple.com/itunes/.  Note: uninstalling iTunes will only remove the application; it will not touch your iTunes library or data.  After doing this iTues should recognize your device and allow you to update your phone from the Summary tab of your iTunes sync settings.

  • Need help...Force Quit doesn't work & keep crashing HD b/c of it

For a week now, I have been trying to re-download my iTunes library from the iTunes store. Turns out, the problem has to do with the amount of downloads they put in my queue, which causes iTunes to crash. But, when it does crash, Force Quit doesn't work UNTIL I am forced to unplug the hard drive it was writing to. This is BAD and could kill my hard drive (I've had to do this AT LEAST 20 times this week and have repaired it 4 times with DiskWarrior and TechTool Pro during the past week).
Is there ANY way to get force quit to work without having to do this to the hard drive?? Seagate is no help as their phone just rings...no customer support avail even though hours say they are open. I am using 10.4.10 and a 500GB Seagate Pro External Hard Drive. I would put this in iTunes, but Force Quit is a Tiger thing. Off topic a bit, do you think iTunes would crash less if I downloaded to my internal HD instead (though, not really feasible as my internal couldn't fit all the downloads anyway)???
Thanks in advance for any suggestions!

The previous reply was correct -- the freeze you are experiencing has nothing to do with the number of songs in the iTunes queue. The problem is with your hard drive. The newer Seagate FreeAgent drives (and all FreeAgent Pros) use a chipset that does not play well with recent versions of MacOS. I am not sure if Seagate uses two individual chipsets: one for USB and one for eSATA (assuming you are using a FreeAgent Pro), or simple one that supports both protocols, but that is the causing your mysterious freeze.
I have spent weeks troubleshooting this very same problem and have yet to find a solution. Right now, I am in standby mode until Apple releases 10.4.11 which is said to have fixed "issues with USB devices." I have tried many brands of external drives (Western Digital, Hitachi, roll-your-own, pre-FreeAgent Seagates) and they all work fine. I have even removed the drives from the FreeAgent Pro drives and put them into roll-your-own USB enclosures and they work fine. The problem is with the Seagate FreeAgent interface chip itself.
Hopefully you can still return your new FreeAgent drive to the store you bought it from. I am a strong believer in Seagate drives and use them extensively at home and work (over a dozen externals total) and the FreeAgents have caused more trouble than I've ever experienced with an external device. As of now, I am using a Western Digital 750GB MyBook drive until Seagate or Apple can find a permanent fix for the issue.
That being said, the FreeAgents have worked fine in the past and only recently have begun to have issues, so if you can, try rolling back to an earlier version of 10.4 and try again. Being a software developer, that option wasn't available to me.

  • Help , i just archived my iphoto library, and now it won't open

How do i unzip the library and put it back? I'm getting a message that the files are unreadable. I've had sooo much trouble with iphoto since upgrading to '06 and now this! I've been getting a messaage everytime i use the iphoto to rebuild the thumbnails, so I read about how to do it with starting with the option key etc, thought i'd also back it up and archived it to use less space on the dvd and now there are a lot of missing pictures; it's like my one library just vanished, there are none of my albums or titles etc. Anyway when I was moving the library folder to the burn folder to burn it, it just vanished, and now all I have is the archived folder.

Since posting the above I have been on the phone with a tech, I had redownload the stuffit expander, to unzip the file. I had backed up the pictures so will add them later, but here is the issue, I am very low on disk space so have added an external HD which i am trying to put photo libraries in. I printed an article "how to store libraries on exernal HD", in the rticle it says to rename the files on the original HD, can I remove them instead (after saving to disk, of course)?
Also, I have 15G of disk space we could not account for, the tech suspects hidden files, but says they do not deal with locating them and removing them, reccomended erasing HD and starting over, but would like that to be a last resort. I have four users on my machine two of which are for my grandchildren who use it mainly for "my space" and "Limewire" Has anyone here had a problem with either of these sites? I'm looking for alternaive suggestions about where the disk space has gone prior to erasing my hard drive. This is a very recent problem, and my mac is running poorly due to lack of space on the harddrive. I am moving my photo libraries to the external HD as I had planned anyway so i don't have to worry about space. It is a 250G WDC My Book Essential Edition. I am running the 6.0 iPhoto program. I am calling the support tech for iphoto but think it is unlikely that I have 15G of missing space due to photos, so could use your help. Thanks.

  • Hi!  Need help!  I downloaded Reader 9.1 and now it won't install  Get error message "Error 1606. Could no access network location %APPDATA%\.  I'm about ready to trash my computer!  Thanks!

Hi!  Need help desperately!  I downloaded Reader 9.1 and it won't install.  Get the error message "Error 1606.  Could not access network location %APPDATA%\.  Thanks!

    Hello again:
I don't mean to step on any toes here but it seems that the root of the problem is being ignored. I offered before that the problems you are experiencing are due to inconsistencies in the Windows registry. While I could speculate on the various methods of how this came to be, I don't have that kind of time nor is there a need. More than likely it is some type of malware that has infected the system but that should be explored on more suited forums such as MajorGeeks.com or BleepingComputer.com. The way I see it, you have a few paths you can take, all of which will lead you to the same place: no more error 1606 and a functional Reader:
Option 1: Run the Windows Live OneCare free safety scanner to resolve any broken registry links it can find.
Option 2: Manually fix the "broken" registry entries in the Windows registry. While I understand Pat's hesitation to do so, the truth of the matter is it will resolve the immediate issue. Once the APPDATA path is corrected, you should then be able to install Reader.
Option 3: Restore Windows to a previous date using System Restore located in Help & Support of the Start menu.
Option 4: [SLEDGE HAMMER] Reinstall Windows over the top of the current installation (NO FORMAT). Use this option only if you have no other recourse. The potential to lose all personal data and settings is high if this option is not performed correctly. If this option is chosen, be certain to use a "setup" profile (username) different than your current username. If you only have a manufacturer's system restore disk rather than a Windows CD/DVD, you may not have the option NOT to format which WILL result in the loss of personal data. This option should only be performed by someone who has previous knowledge of such or is willing to learn even at the expense of data loss/time/effort.
I HIGHLY recommend that any and all personal data is backed up to an external location such as a USB key, CD/DVD, or external hard drive prior to performing option 2 or 4 above. If you would like any of the options explained in greater detail, feel free to ask and I will oblige.
    Best of success!

  • My iPod Nano 6th generation iLive speaker system quit on me and now I cannot find a compatible speaker system.  I don't want tiny personal speakers, I use this for music in the family room.

I have 2 iPod Nano 6th generation.  I had them setup with different music from iTunes and I had an iLive Bluetooth docking and speaker system that charged and played them with speakers spaced in the family room.  Not a little personal setup but for reasonably loud music for the whole room.  My iLive system died on me.  It had the 20 pin place to plug in the iPod nano and a clock and the two speakers that were bluetooth.  It was the perfect setup for me.  Now that model has been discontinued and I cannot find anything like it.  Does anyone know what a good option is?  These iPods are only a couple of years old and now obsolete because they don't make anything to play them on.  I don't use earbuds, it's not what I bought them for.  One has our jazz music collection, the other has Christmas music.  I want to hear it throughout the house.

Sorry typo it had a 30 pin place to plug in the iPod Nano

  • IPhone 5S! I dropped my phone and now I cannot see the screen and i need to restore to original settings

When i dropped it, the screen went crazy and now I see a whole bunch of random colorful lines on the screen and I am unable to press anything.  I want to restore the phone to factory settings, but when I connect to iTunes on my Mac, it is saying that I must enter the passcode, which I cannot do, because of the screen. It also says that I can't restore my iPhone because Find My iPhone is on. In order to turn it off I have to unlock my phone and turn it off through the phone but i can't!! Someone please help me

If you turned on Find My Phone in Settings > iCloud, login to your iCloud account, go to Find My Phone, select the iPhone and do a remote erase.
If you did not turn on Find My Phone there is nothing more you can do...take it to an Apple store genius bar for an out of warranty replacement, in the US that is $269.

  • Need help restoring an itouch that erased itself and now gives an error message

I have an ipod touch and was syncing it when it seems to have completely erased itself. Before that I had it in my purse and it had a weird yellow and white screen with no words. I turned it off and back on and it seemed fine. Anyway after that i synced it erased itself. It went back to the screen with the itunes symbol and the ubs cord, like when it is new and you need to initialize it. When I did that, it said I needed to restore, when I hit restore it went through as if it was fine, but then in the end it gives me an error message saying it cannot restore, the error message is 1611. What else can I do to get this working?

Error 1611: This error may indicate a hardware issue with your device. Follow the steps in this article. Alsoattempt to restore while connected with a known-good 30-pin Dock Connector cable, computer, and network to isolate this issue to the device. The MAC address being missing or the IMEI being the default value (00 499901 064000 0) can also confirm a hardware issue. Out-of-date or incorrectly configured proxy or security software, such as FoxyProxy, can cause error 1611. To troubleshoot third-party security software, follow these steps.
