Welcome to the Apple Support Communities
First of all, I recommend you to reset the SMC, just in case it's a settings problem > http://support.apple.com/kb/HE57
If it doesn't work, and as an external display doesn't work, I suspect that the graphic card is damaged. In this case, there's not too much you can do, apart from taking the iMac to an Apple Store or reseller and get the computer repaired. Note that the whole logic board has to be replaced because the graphic card is soldered, so it will be an expensive repair. You should consider the option of get a new PC or Mac

  • Need help - imac keeps trying to restart.... can't stop it!

I restarted my mac. As i always have. There was a tick box when the restart countdown came up, i didn't see it but didn't  think anything of it. Now each time I've started the mac up it opens with safari.... And then closes the safari window and reopen safari ad infinitum.
Cannot stop. Or close down safari as only opens for about five seconds then reopen again. Mouse pointer disappears so cannot click on anything. Desperately need help. I know my computer but cannot fathom he problem. Can anyone help? Recently loaded mountain lion.... Is this the culprit?

    Hi Catfromc,
You may have to re-install mountain lion on your mac.
I can't give you much help online but you can BOOK A GENIUS APPOINTMENT

  • New Itunes is not working because my imac is 10.6.8 need help ?

New Itunes is not working because my imac is 10.6.8 need help ....

Because you require Lion to run it. You should not have installed it.
    Upgrading to Lion
If your computer does not meet the requirements to install Mavericks, it may still meet the requirements to install Lion.
You can purchase Lion at the Online Apple Store. The cost is $19.99 (as it was before) plus tax.  It's a download. You will get an email containing a redemption code that you then use at the Mac App Store to download Lion. Save a copy of that installer to your Downloads folder because the installer deletes itself at the end of the installation.
         Lion System Requirements
           1. Mac computer with an Intel Core 2 Duo, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7,
               or Xeon processor
           2. 2GB of memory
           3. OS X v10.6.6 or later (v10.6.8 recommended)
           4. 7GB of available space
           5. Some features require an Apple ID; terms apply.
    Upgrading to Mountain Lion
To upgrade to Mountain Lion you must have Snow Leopard 10.6.8 or Lion installed. Purchase a redemption code at the Online Apple Store: OS X Mountain Lion. Mountain Lion is $19.99 plus tax. Use the code to redeem a download of Mountain Lion from the App Store. The file is quite large, over 4 GBs, so allow some time to download. It would be preferable to use Ethernet because it is nearly four times faster than wireless.
OS X Mountain Lion - System Requirements
Macs that can be upgraded to OS X Mountain Lion
             1. iMac (Mid 2007 or newer) - Model Identifier 7,1 or later.
             2. MacBook (Late 2008 Aluminum, or Early 2009 or newer) - Model
                 Identifier 5,1 or later.
             3. MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later.
             4. MacBook Air (Late 2008 or newer) - Model Identifier 2,1 or later.
             5. Mac mini (Early 2009 or newer) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later.
             6. Mac Pro (Early 2008 or newer) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later.
             7. Xserve (Early 2009) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later.
To find the model identifier open System Profiler in the Utilities folder. It's displayed in the panel on the right.

You can upgrade to Yosemite from Lion or directly from Snow Leopard. Yosemite can be downloaded from the Mac App Store for FREE.

If you have upgraded the RAM, the likely cause is upgraded RAM or some other hardware issue. Sources of RAM caused KP's are:
    Failed RAM
    Incorrect RAM
    Unseated RAM
Start by removing all upgraded RAM and replace with the original RAM the computer shipped with and then test. If they KP's disappear you know your issue is RAM related to the upgraded RAM.

  • Need help broadcasting A/V from iMac to TV

Sup Apple! PC here, don't hold it against meh!
My sister has an  iMac (27-inch, Mid 2010) w/ the i5. She wants to mirror her pc to her TV but there are considerations. I need help finding the best wireless solution.
    Here are the facts:
    No HDMI port on iMac
Has HughesNet satellite as her ISP
    Wifi speeds vary with cloudcover
The machine is 30 ft away not direct line of sight
I've looked at Apple TV, and AirPlay only ccovers 2011 models and up.
So assuming I run a mini displayport to HDMI converter from Mac to a Transmitter...I'll get pic only, how do you think the best way is to stream audio and video to the TV? I'm not familiar with FireWire 800, and I see the Optical Out, but for now I have her ordering something that will get Pic only, as she needs to showcase photography.
There's gotta be a device I am unaware of that will handle both audio and video... with the HughesNet consideration, is it even worth it?
This is what transmitter/receiver I'm looking at, http://www.nyrius.com/products/display.php?id=123&i=3
Any better ideas? Am I missing anything elusively obvious here?
    Thanks in advance ,
    C

I've read that Airparrot works well with Apple TV for macs that don't support mirroring. http://www.airsquirrels.com/airparrot/

  • Need help with my iMac ... it keeps freezing up on me no matter what I do.

    Hello all,
I need help to figure out why my iMac keeps on freezing up on me. I used to have Norton SystemWorks installed but I recently uninstalled it because I found out it was poison to Mac OS X. I've used Memtest to check the memory in my iMac. The result of the test came up fine.
You can go to 'Cooling fans for iMac?' (one of my post) to read all of the solutions I have tries out. This post is the original post to try to fix the problem but it FAILED.
In the last week, I've backed up all of my data to my external hard drive. Then I totally erase my internal hard drive and made sure to zero out the drive. After, I proceeded to install Mac OS 9. I had some problems installing the system at first. I finally installed Mac OS 9 and upgraded it to the latest version of 9. Next, I tried to install Mac OS X 10.3 with difficulty. I then finally installed it. I notice during and after installing the both OSs, my iMac keep on freezing. After I installed Mac OS X 10.3, I updated the OS. And yes, while updating the OS, I've experience the same problem as before. I now have my system back to where it was before I did a fresh install of both Mac OS 9 and X.
You guest it, my iMac is still freezing up on me no matter what I do. Can someone please help me with this problem? Can he/she tell me what is going on with my iMac and how to fix it? All the help I can get would be appreciated. Thanks for you time and effort.
P.S. After trying all of the previous suggestions from other users, I came to an conclusion that one of the hardware in my iMac my be failing. I know for curtain it is NOT my memory. It my be something else inside my iMac.

    Rainbow -
I've read the thread you linked to above and the only thing I find missing in the saga is any mention of the PRAM battery. If it is depleted (and it would be getting close to depletion if it has never been replaced) it could be causing your problem.
Do you see any strangeness in the time or date displays? That would be a sure sign that the battery is dying. I haven't run into the problem of a bad battery causing constant freezing but it wouldn't hurt to check it out.
As far as temperature effects, the usual pattern of overheating would be a shutdown of the whole computer, a designed-in precaution.
Forgive the battery tutorial if you've already dealt with that possibility.

The way that Dropbox works is that it keeps a copy of all your files in your local Dropbox folder on your hard drive (which is, by default, directly under your home folder). Adding files to that folder will sync them to the Dropbox server.
You do of course have to download the Dropbox application to enable this (download link at the top right of http://dropbox.com ).

  • HOW DO YOU GUYS DEAL WITH APPLE.. SO CONFUSING...NEED HELP WITH SPECS FOR PURCHASE OF IMAC 21.5

Hi guys, been reading your forums, blogposts, etc and am getting more confused.  I'm just a video girl trying to produce meaningful content through web videos for small to mid sized businesses and want to come over from the dark side.
Good news,, I dont need a super giant system,  I do simple editing for web videos, minimal graphics, no motion graphics, no animation etc. currently using CS4, will probably end up with 5.5.
I want to get imac 21.5 or 27 if i have to..  So here's the question we all have,,, what do I really need besides an Apple fairy godmother to figure this crazy stuff out?????
I want to be able to have firewire add on, but the rest is what I need help with.   So i've been looking at cs6 specs, even though im not there yet, eventually will be,, so just need to run cs4 now and build from there.  I also want to eventually move to final cut down the road so I want imac able to upgrade to final cut.
WHAT DO I REALLY NEED MINIMALLY FOR NOW?  WHAT CAN I GET LATER IF i CHOOSE TO DO MORE AND NEED MORE POWER?
    cs6:
Multicore Intel processor with 64-bit support
    Mac OS X v10.6.8, v10.7, or v10.8**
    4GB of RAM (8GB recommended)
4GB of available hard-disk space for installation; additional free space required during installation (cannot install on a volume that uses a case-sensitive file system or on removable flash storage devices)
Additional disk space required for preview files and other working files (10GB recommended)
    1280x900 display
7200 RPM hard drive (multiple fast disk drives, preferably RAID 0 configured, recommended)
    OpenGL 2.0–capable system
DVD-ROM drive compatible with dual-layer DVDs (SuperDrive for burning DVDs; Blu-ray burner for creating Blu-ray Disc media)
QuickTime 7.6.6 software required for QuickTime features
Optional: Adobe-certified GPU card for GPU-accelerated performance
Any responses would be great.  I know you guys are busy answering the really high end tech questions

All the current iMac models (both 21.5" and 27" with OS X Mt. Lion 10.8) will run CS4, 5.5 and 6 just fine.  They will also run Final Cut Pro X just fine.  Ditto for most any application you may want to use.
Below are some notes (specific to your apparent requirements) that may help you with your purchase decision:
Notes on purchasing a 21.5" iMac
All 21.5" iMacs come with 8GB RAM but you cannot add more later.  I strongly suggest getting the maximum RAM (16GB) when you order the iMac.
The basic hard drive is a 1TB 5400rpm drive.  It will work fine with Adobe CS but you will probably want the added speed of the optional 1TB Fusion drive for better performance. Some people will recommend/argue for one of the optional SSD drives instead, but they are very expensive and still only come in relatively small capacities - I don't recommend the SSD drives.  Get the Fusion drive and spend any extra money on a good external hard drive for backup and/or extra storage instead of an SSD.
Notes on purchasing a 27" iMac
All 27" iMacs come with 8GB RAM and you can add more later, up to 32GB
The basic hard drive is a 1TB 7200rpm drive - it will be fine with Adobe CS.  There are upgrade options to a 3TB 7200rpm drive or a 1TB or 3TB fusion drive - these will be fine also.  There are also SSD drive options, but I do not recommend them. (Same comments as above.)
Notes on all the current iMacs
iMacs no longer come with built-in CD/DVD drives.  If you need one, you will need to purchase the Apple Superdrive accessory drive ($79)
All of the iMac graphic processors (GPU's) are compatible with Adobe CS 4, 5.5, 6
It is very difficult to impossible to change or upgrade the hard drive later on, so don't buy low-end thinking you can add a better internal hard drive later.
Be aware that Macs always come with the latest (most recent) version of OS X.  And OS X Mavericks (10.9) is due to be released soon (in the next month or two).  There is no guarantee that the older Adobe CS 4 or 5.5 versions will run on OS X Mavericks.  If you cannot upgrade to CS 6 in the near future, you may want to purchase now rather than after OS X Mavericks is released.
For what it's worth, I'd recommend the 27" iMac if your budget can afford it.  You will appreciate the larger screen size and added capabilities over the years you will use the computer.

My iTunes stopped working after I did a couple of software updates that got my iTunes up to v. 11.4. Since that update, I can't get iTunes to open at all, neither from my dock nor from the Applications menu.
I'm wondering: Perhaps these latest iTunes updates are simply too advanced for my 10.6.8 operating system? If that's the case, how can I backtrack to an earlier version of iTunes that is compatible with my computer OS?
    Any thoughts?

  • Need Help Opening a Corrupted File in MS Office Word 2007.

I use Microsoft Office Word 2007. I need help in opening a corrupted file. I tried to open but am getting messages: "cannot be opened", "unreadable content", "do you want to recover contents?" "Do you want to search
    for a converter?"
Anyone have any ideas on how I can get this file to open? :/
    Thank you,
    Chuck in California

    From Microsoft Documentation:-
If a file has been damaged and you cannot open it by normal means, you may be able to recover its content by using the Open and Repair
    feature.
    Click the
    Microsoft Office Button
Browse to the file that you want to recover, and click it (do not double-click it).
Click the arrow next to the
Open button, and then click Open and Repair.

  • I need help with a migration from Exchange 2010 to 2007

    Hi All,
I need help migrating mailboxes from a separate forest / domain using exchange 2010 to our Exchange 2007 SP3 servers..  I am following this procedure:
    1. On source server, create a mailbox user, test01.
    2. On target server, run the following command to move the AD account:
Prepare-MoveRequest.Ps1 -Identity [email protected] -RemoteForestDomainController FQDN.source.com -RemoteForestCredential $Remote -LocalForestDomainController FQDN.target.com -LocalForestCredential $Local -UseLocalObject -Verbose"
    3. Run the ADMT to migrate the password and SID history.
    4. Run the following command to move the mailbox:
New-MoveRequest -Identity '[email protected]' -RemoteLegacy -RemoteTargetDatabase DB03 -RemoteGlobalCatalog 'GC01.humongousinsurance.com' -RemoteCredential $Cred -TargetDeliveryDomain 'mail.contoso.com'
    (Changed all the details obviously)
It gets to 95% and shows this error

Any ideas what i can do about this?

    Hi,
From your description, I recommend you follow the steps below for troubleshooting:
Open the problematic user in AD and check the Email Address. Verify if you can open or edit the x400 address. If no, remove the x400 address and recreate it. If yes, ensure that the name is spelt correctly. After that, continue to move the mailbox and check
    the result.
Hope this can be helpful to you.
