Need help installling from disk

is there an install help like the download assist for adobe software, my computer won't install the programs from the disks

We need more info about what you are trying to install on what system. Without even knowing what programs you are referring to, nobody can give any advise.

If you are not sure of what you are doing,If you are worried about losing anything when doing a major systems upgrade/update,
Before embarking on a major OS upgrade, it would be wise, advisable and very prudent if you backup your current system to an external connected and Mac formatted Flash drive OR externally connected USB, Thunderbolt or FireWire 800, Mac formatted hard drive. Then, use either OS X Time Machine app to backup your entire system to the external drive OR purchase, install and use a data cloning app, like CarbonCopyCloner or SuperDuper, to make an exact and bootable copy (clone) of your entire Mac's internal hard drive. This step is really needed in case something goes wrong with the install of the new OS or you simply do not like the new OS, you have a very easy way/procedure to return your Mac to its former working state.
Older version of CarbonCopyCloner found here.

Older versions of SuperDuper can be found on the SuperDuper Website and Homepage.

Then, determine if your Mac meets ALL minimum system install requirements.

To install Snow Leopard for the first time, you must have a Mac with:
    An Intel processor
An internal or external DVD drive, or DVD or CD Sharing
At least 1 GB of RAM (additional RAM is recommended)
A built-in display or a display connected to an Apple-supplied video card supported by your computer
At least 5 GB of disk space available, or 7 GB of disk space if you install the developer tools.

  • Running Lion. Verified Disk. Warned HD corrupt, and need to restart from disk and run repair. No idea how to do this without a physical disk.

    Hi,
My MacBook Pro has been acting up a little. I tried the usual repair options: repair permissions, zap P-ram, and Safe Boot (although I've never gotten the machine to Safe Boot properly since installing Lion). I ran Verify Disk and it stopped part way through, saying that the HD is corrupt. It instructed me to start up from the (installation?) disk and run the repair function from the disk utility. (I've included a screen shot of the Verify Disk screen). I have no idea how to go about this without a physical start up disk (Lion). I do have the disks that came with the computer at the time of purchase (Will one of those work?).
    Thanks,
    JGW

    Thank you!
I was able to access the recovery function and used the Disk Utility to repair my HD.
Would you recommend that I still re-install Lion?
Again, thank you for taking the time to help me!
    Best wishes,
    JGW

  • Need to satrt from disk but have no DVD drive

Me again, sorry experts but i need help again. My g4 has passwords i cannot get by, i need to reset admin etc as previous posts showed but my start up discs from my Powerbook are DVD and the g4 tower has no DVD, can i do a series of key combo's or something to reset all my information, i am happy to lose any content as i need nothing from it.
    Many thanks
    Deano

You should use the G4's original disks, or a retail copy of the OS you're running on it, to reset the password. The Powerbook DVD is meant for that machine only (if it's the machine specific disks that shipped with it). If it's a retail (universal disk) you would be OK.
It would be too risky, using a Powerbook DVD for G4 stuff in my opinion. I know it can't read DVD's so you're safe there.
Here's Apple doc.#106156 on resetting the password, in case you find the right disk.
    Cheers!

  • 20" iMac (mid 2007) wont show HD during OS installation from disk

    Hi,
My iMac was showing a grey screen at start-up with a flashing question mark. I read the previous discussions and re-installed the OS and reformatted the HD. Everything was running like new and I updated all the software then shut it down for the night. Today I started it back up and again the grey screen with the question mark. Now I am trying to install the OS again from disk, but it will not show my HD when asking where to install OSX...does this mean that my HD has failed?
    Thanks!

If after following Ralph's suggestions you still have a problem I'd recommend running Apple Hardware Test. It's possible your HD is failing.

  • Need help changing from CC package to Photoshop only

I purchased CC membership for one year in December 2013. As I hardly ever need InDesign or Illustrator, I would like to change my order to Photoshop (and Lightroom) only. I find managing my account online very confusing. Is there a number I could call? Or some other way to get rid of the software I don't need, and that I did not re-order after my one-year membership was over?

  • Need Help - Installation of iLife '06 crashes - no thumbnails in iPhoto 6

    Hi folks,
I hope someone can help. I'm running a G4, dual 1.42GHz, FW800, with 10.4.5. I bought iLife '06 today to install. When I run the installer, here's what happens:
The following process are completed successfully:
    - Installing iPhoto
    - Installing iPhoto Resources
    - Installing iMovie
    - Installing iMovie Resources
    - Installing iDVD
    - Installing iDVD Resources
Once the above tasks complete, the installer crashes and askes me to rerun it.
    I've duplicated this several times.
I went into my Applications folder and I opened up iPhoto and it told me I had to update my photo properties or something like that in order for me to run iPhoto 6. I clicked the Update button and it started working and then i Photo crashed. I ran it again and it worked but now I have no thumbnails of my photos at all. It's just blank with little dashed lines in a rectangle with an ! in the middle.
When I opened iMovie, it was o.k. When I opened iDVD, I got the spinning beach ball.
So what do I need to do to get this software installed correctly? Where are my photos and why can't I see them. Please help.
    Thanks,
    Ed

    Ed44:
Welcome to the Apple Discussions. After the crash did you try to repair the disk permissions? That should be done after any software installation or update.
    Try the following:
1 - boot into your system install disk that came with your computer and run Disk Utility from the Utilities menu and repair the disk, not permissions.
2 - boot back into your normal boot drive and run disk utility and repair disk permissions.
3 - download and runiPhoto Library Manager and, with the Add Library button, add your library to the list on the left.
4 - go to iPLM's File menu and select Rebuild Library.
Once it's done see if that helped. If you have a large library it will take a while. One user with around 5000 photos reported about 12 hours so plan ahead.

  • Need help recovering from a BIOS upgrade failure

I was helping someone with their laptop and it was not responding well so I decided to reboot the system (user normally puts it to sleep).  Screen went black after reboot, no BIOS screen or blacklight.  I connected an external monitor and was able to see everything fine.  Did some research in the knowledge base and found the following article which suggests making sure you are running the latest BIOS.
    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c01997899&tmp_task=solveCategory&cc=us&dlc=en&lc...
"As a final action, if there is an image on the external monitor and you have installed the latest BIOS, updated CPU chips set, and updated graphics drivers but the notebook display remains black, the LCD may be defective. It may be necessary to contact HP for technical assistance or send the notebook for service to replace the display."
Seeing that it was running an older version I decided to update it.
    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareDownloadIndex?softwareitem=ob-89419-1&cc=us&dlc=en&lc=en&...
Watched the update (it mentioned that it was backing up the old bios) and when it had flashed the 16 blocks the external monitor went black (not sure if it was rebooting) and nothing happened.  Waited over 10 minutes figuring it was doing something.  Turned off the laptop and turned it back on again and the only thing that happens is the caps lock light blinks with no pause.  Num lock light is on solid.  Also it will not power up without the battery installed.
    Here are the specs:
    HP Pavilion dv9580us
    Product# GA334UA
    Windows Vista 32 bit
    Original BIOS version F.09
Updated BIOS to version F.5  using SP48024
I have looked at various articles like the following but not sure if they apply to this model.
    http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Lockups-Freezes-Hangs/Fixing-A-laptop-which-had-had-a-bad-BIOS...
Tried connecting a USB floppy drive and holding the "Windows"+"B" or "FN"+"B" or the 4 arrow keys and it doesn't try to access the floppy drive.
What I am hoping for is that someone from HP can tell me what is required to do a bios recovery for this model which was manufactered in 2007.  There is not a "HP_Tools" partition.
Can I do a recovery with only the external monitor working?
Do I need to use a USB drive or floppy?
With only the BIOS software (link above) how do I extract the files for the USB drive or floppy?
Any help is much appreciated.  God Bless,
    John

i was wondering what you meant with "label file". an alias.
but it's a bit strange. the "send registration" alias points to a document called Send Registration.setup which in turn is executed by Setup Assistent.app. the alias and the document are 4KB in size each. the app about 45MB. it's just a simple app, that asks for your personal data, like name, adresse, e-mail and so on, to register them with apple, if you choose to do so. no way that it suddenly mutates to 15GB.
and indeed, deleting the alias would have no effect on the system. so i strongly assume you've deleted something else accidentally.
    fire wire target mode. yes.
start the macbook pro. connect it via fire wire cable to your macbook. then boot the macbook while holding down the "T" key. the macbook should now show a big fire wire drive icon on it's grey bootscreen. on the macbook pro the internal drive of your macbook will now show up as a mounted firewire drive like an external hard drive. you can then access it from the macbook pro to copy your data from it onto the macbook pro or another external harddrive connected to it.
after that you can dismount the drive and power your macbook down. insert the install dvd, that came with the macbook and hold "C" key while booting it up again. it should now boot from the dvd and open the os x installer. select your language and reinstall the system.

  • Need help with Low disk space issue and blue screen

Hi Everyone, just seen a message stating a low disk space on my Mac pro bought last November and tried plugging in an external hard drive to remove some pictures to free up some space but it seems that the computer did not have enough space left to start up and run the hard drive. I then tried to restart and ended up with a blue screen and have no knowledge now how to fix this problem. I phoned support but they say I have no technical support left but do have warranty and I would need to either try with the community here or take the unit to an apple store for an appointment. The store is an 1 and 1/2 from me and I really want o see if there is another fix that could allow me to start again then remove some files and then add external drive to remove more. I was blown away at the low amount of storage.....looked for the icloud option last night to upload there as i was told about this by a UK client of mine and now see it is not up and running. Any advice or help by the communtiy would be greatly appreciated as this is my business and travelling laptop. Cheers, Dean <")))><

    Great to hear Dean, thanks!
Further notes: OSX needs about 15% or 10GB Free space minimum, but will run mucch faster/safer with 30-40% or 50GB of Free Space... Free Space is no longer ours to use.

  • Bootcamp partion lost after OS X update, Need help repair my disk.

    Hi.
After updating to Yousimiti yesterday, i encountered som problems with my bootcamp partion.
I wasn't able to boot from the partion. I googled a lot, and found some posts, where the problem was resolved, and followed the following steps:
    sudo fdisk -e /dev/disk0
    p
    setpid 4
    07
    flag 4
    p
    write
    y
After this i was able to boot form my Drive, but it tells me: "Operating system missing".
Then i started investigating further i saw that my bootcamp partion now only is 60GB, where before it was 100GB.
When i first made my Bootcamp i made it 60GB which i fast found out was not enough for the programs i needed, so i used a program on windows to expand the patron, from empty space on the disk. Now i have 40GB blokced space, and the 60GB Bootcamp.
From what i have read the problem is that Windows and OS X does not use the same Data table format.
Is it possible to Rewrite the datable, os that OS X knows that the Windows part is 100GB and not only 60?
Underneath here i linked to some screenshots of the problem, Hope you guys can help me! (Sorry that it is danish, hope you see et anyways)
And there some info that i got from a "Partition inspector app":

I have three USB disks I want to arrange into a concatenated disk set.  One is Western Digital 2TB and is 'always on'.  The other two are LaCie and have on-off switches 1 TB each.
When I power the two drives up (one at a time), the first one fails 50 percent of the time, regardless of which one is first.  It shows up "red" in Disk Utility, and an error message comes up.  I can power it off again, power it on again and it's fine.   They worked great (as single drives) until I tried this so I figure I'm doing something wrong.
    Thoughts?

  • Need help recovering from a crash

    Hello, all
My macbook has stopped booting. It began when I saw a message reporting shortage of free space on the hdd. I checked and there was as low as 6Gb of free space, and the mdwork process was eating lots of CPU time. I found an enormously huge label file weighting 15Gb and moved it into Trash bin, which took several minutes.
But when I started emptying the Trash bin the system became very slow. Some time later, the Trash bin still being emptied, I found out that all the labels on the Desktop pointed to my Desktop directory, not to specific files in the Applications directory, and didn't work, and starting programms from the Dock didn't make them visible otherwise than by a highlighted dock icon. I couldn't switch to them using Cmd-Tab either because the list was showing only Finder.
Dragging a file onto the Desktop produced a message that I could do it but didn't have permissions to see the result.
After about ten minutes there had been no progress. Judging by the buzz of the fan the CPU was heavily loaded, the Trash bin was still being emptied. I tried force-quitiing the processes in order to restart, but it said it failed to quit the TextEdit application that was by the time open. So nothing left for me to do but to turn the Macbook off using the Power button.
It never started up well again, always stopping at the gray screen with a circular activity indicator on it moving and the Fan whining loudly. I have tried booting in Safe mode and resetting the NVRAM, but in vain.
Could you please help me get it back to work?
    Thanks in advance,
    Anton
