Need help, ipod doing something weird

i got an 4g(i think) 20gb ipod from a friend, and I had some problems at first getting to run. i did a few resets/restore on it, and now i seem to have gotten a new problem.
the ipod will let me load about 3-5 song into the play lists i have set up, then it will give me a message.
'attempting to copy to disk failed. Disk could not be read from or written to."
Sometimes i can get a few songs in, other time no songs. but i always get this message
What does this mean, and how can i fix it!?!?
  Windows XP

Have you looked at the troubleshooting document? It may be of some help:"Disk cannot be read from or written to" when syncing iPod

    Are you sure you have the right pin for your other friend? Try deleting the contact and re-adding them. Also, BBM has to be approved in the countries of both parties.

  • Need Help Ipod mini not working

    I have a mini and it won't show up on my computer, at least I can't find it anywhere, if anyone one has had this problem please let me know if you remember some simple, and basic steps please write them out, I would greatly appreciate it, Thank You.

    Unfortunately, there is no one ‘Silver Bullet’ answer for this issue. Many things can contribute to the problem. Here are various solutions that you can try to correct your problem. One should work.
    First, make sure that the iPod is fully charged.
    Try Resetting Your iPod while it's connected to the computer.
    Hold down the Menu and Select buttons until you see the Apple logo (or Menu & Play/Pause in older models).
    This will often get it recognized. It may take several attempts.
    Try closing and re-starting iTunes. There have been cases where iTunes refuses to see an iPod, but after re-starting, it works again.
    Also try re-booting the entire computer. Especially if the PC has been operating for a long time &/or many programs have been opened and closed, repeatedly.
    Other USB connected peripherals may be the cause as well. Try removing all connected USB items and attaching the iPod. If you have a USB keyboard, it may be worth a try using the adapter to convert it to non-USB. If the iPod connects, continue plugging things back in until you have the problem return. You may have then isolated the issue. Sometimes it could be a printer, camera, Flash Card reader, or other attached device causing a conflict.
    If your iPod shows up in Explorer under 'my computer' try changing the drive letter: Click on Start=>Control Panel=>Admin Tools=>Computer Management=>Disk Management. Right-Click on the iPod and select “change drive letter”. Choose something further along in the alphabet that is unused. Usually, “M”, “N”, “O” (or something similar).
    If that doesn't work, Put Your iPod into Disk Mode then plug it in and you should be able to Restore the iPod
    Your PC may have difficulty with the USB2 protocol and the iPod. See this Article for a possible solution: iPod not Recognized Correctly
    Also try these hints (and the other suggestions above) from any other USB port you may have on the PC. Sometimes switching USB ports can make all the difference.
    Also See:

  • Help - iPod does not show up in iTunes or as disk in Windows Explorer

    Would someone PLEASE tell me how to get my iPod to show up in iTunes or as disk in Windows Explorer?
    According to our PC XP computers, we do not have an ipod and it won't charge when plugged into USB. It worked fine for 10 months until this morning (10/26/06). We have ruled out bad USB drive by using flash drive on that USB and it worked fine. Reseting ipod does not work (ipod does not respond to reset command hold toggle then hold menu + play for up to 10 sec). Reseting ipod within ipod menu does nothing. ANY suggestions would be GREATLY appreciated!
    Thanks.

    I have the same problem with my brand new 2 GB. I have reloaded software, gone through the "5 R's", tried the ipod on my PC and on my laptop -- neither computer recognizes or charges the ipod. Any info greatly appreciated.

  • I need help why does my/our ipod touch apps disappears after being downloaded in the main device

    in my/our ipod touch apps dosen't start downloading it keeps from disappearing
    before i tired the app "Temple Run" that app works why the other apps i install keeps on disappearing.............thnx

    Did you look at this previous discussion that I provided in my first reply?
    ios 6 and macosx 10.5 on a pre intel...: Apple Support Communities
    It say how to use a iTunes version 10.6.3 with OSX 10.5.8 and sync with iOS 5.
    OSX 10.6.8 is a paid upgrade for $29 but requires an Intel Mac. That last OSX for a Power PC G4 or G5 is 10.5.8.

  • Need help, Ipod Touch being recognized as a camera on Windows XP

        Whenever I go to do something with my ipod and pull up My Computer, my iPod is always shown as a digital camera. I looked all around for solutions to this and found one that I think is the solution that I need.  It asks you to pull up device manager and update the driver to usbaapl (under system 32 or Mobile Device Support) but when i go to click on the file "usbaapl.inf" it says it cannot find a better driver than the one previously installed.  The file i previously mentioned is only a setup information file, which has me concerned as to the underlying problem, but there are no other choices (the .dll and .sys) listed at all.  I have the latest version of iTunes (just reinstalled it yesterday) and my iPod software is up to date. Someone please help me!!!

    Try everthing here. I would start with remiving and reinstalling all the Apple software using the link in the following.

  • Need help. iPod disabled and unable to connect to iTunes for a restore???

    Please Help!!!  My iPod touch is giving me a red box error stating "iPod is Disabled" and telling me to connect to iTunes. I tried to connect to iTunes but am getting the error message "iTunes could not connect to iPod because it is locked with a passcode. You must enter your passcode on the iPod before it can be used with iTunes".
    I am unable to enter the passcode because the iPod touch is disabled and will not let me.
    Does anyone know what to do?
    Thanks for your help.

    Connect in recovery mode and restore, you'll get the option to reset the passcode during this process:
    iOS: Unable to update or restore and iPhone and iPod touch: Wrong passcode results in red disabled screen
    If you cannot remember the passcode, you will need to restore your device using the computer with which you last synced it. This allows you to reset your passcode and resync the data from the device (or restore from a backup). If you restore on a different computer that was never synced with the device, you will be able to unlock the device for use and remove the passcode, but your data will not be present. Refer to Updating and restoring iPhone, iPad and iPod touch software.

                   } }, 1000, 1000);

                        box.setEnabled(false);
                        if(box.getSelectedItem() == ql5.getText()){
                        duh ++;
                        } else {
                      funnum ++;
      }as i say, the ending will always be "you lose".
    anyhoo, for those of you who want a question its "what am i doing wrong that prevents the user from winning?"
    thankyou for your help (if you do help).

    the point of the decremation is that duh is incremented if you get the answer right,
    public void itemStateChanged(ItemEvent e){
                        box.setEnabled(false);
                        if(box.getSelectedItem() == ql5.getText()){
                        duh ++;
                        } else {
                      funnum ++;
                   } and then duh is decremented, like so:
         case 21:
                                 timelabel.setText("");
                                 duh --;
                             if(duh == 1){
                             ql6.setText("you win!!!");
                             } else {
                             ql6.setText("you lose");
                                  break;the point is that if the user gets it right, duh should be incremented, then in the switch statements decrements the value of duh. so if the user got it right, duh should equal 1. else duh will be decreased to zero
    hope that makes it more clear (i'm not very good with explaining stuff)

  • Need Help, iPod died.

    Okay Im not exactly where to put this thread but I thought this would be fine sinec its general. Okay so awhile ago I got water in my iPod =/ Though miraculously it didn't die. I charged it up and it worked fine, except the click wheel won't work at all. I can even plug it into my car stereo and use it with the car dials. So I know the iPod is fine (I have a classic 5th gen iPod btw). So I know I can't fix it myself but what I need is a link to the Form, or something in which I can get box from apple to put my iPod in and send it back for them to fix it. I have no clue where this Form is on this site as it is hidden to me. Anyway a link to the form or another explanation is all i need. Thank you very much for reading this.

    Thanks but that hasn't worked. The apple logo comes up but it has a spinning circle frozen on it. Like the ones on safari to show that its loading a page. It just has that until it runs out of battery. The I charge it and the process starts again.

  • Need Help iPod Error

    My iPod constantly crashes.
    I can use the iPod like normal, when all of a sudden the screen goes white, then it reboots.
    it says to connect to iTunes. so I connect and restore. but the restore will fail a few times before it will actully works. After the iPod is fully restored, It will work but for only a few minutes then it happens all over again. I've tried different ways of rebooting, but it always seems to crash. Does anyone have a solution?

    Restore and set up as a new iPod but DO NOT SYNCH anything from your library.  Set up networking and "play" with the iPod.  DO NOT install or download ANY THING, especially apps.  Take some photos, take some videos, record some voice files, surf the internet, etc.
    If the iPod still crashes, then there are two possibilities:
    1.  You have a hardware issue.
    2.  iOS is bad/corrupted.
    To see if iOS is the problem, use a different computer to download iTunes, and then use that computer to download iOS and do a restore to factory defaults.  If the iPod still crashes, its definately hardware.
    If the iPod is stable from the initial restore and set up as new, then the problem is software.  Try synching your apps one at a time, testing the iPod after each app is synchd.  This should help you find the "bad app".  At that point you can unsynch the "bad app" and move on...  Be sure to test the iPod between apps.....
    Good Luck...

  • NEED HELP. iPod won't even charge.

    Every time I try and charge it, the Apple logo appears and then the sad iPod icon appears and it does it over and over again.
    I have tried resetting and putting it into disk mode, and still nothing happens.
    Does anyone have any ideas or suggestions?
    Any and all help is GREATLY appreciated.

    Don't worry: the sad iPod icon is a known issue. You can learn more about it online at http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=61771.
    If you have any other questions, I would call applecare or go to your local genius bar (apple.com/retail)

  • I NEED HELP!! SOMETHING'S NOT WORKING!

    When I go to a chatrooms or game sites that use java all I get is a box with something in the corner where it should be loading. My java is enabled already checked that out. What should I do?

    Hey Boom,
    The exact way in which you open your Java console depends on the browser and Java virtual machine you're using.
    If you're using IE and the default (Microsoft) JVM, you'll need to go to Tools/Internet Options and click on the Advanced tab. There, you'll find a section titled "Microsoft VM". The first option should be "Java Console Enabled (requires restart)". Check that, close all browsers, and re-launch IE. You'll then be able to select "Java Console" from the "Views" menu from then on (NOTE: this menu option won't appear until you enable the console by performing the first step).
    If you're using Netscape, you're running a Java plug-in. When the plug-in becomes active, the Java icon (the steaming coffee cup) will appear in your system tray (where your clock gets displayed on the task bar). You can just right click on that icon and select "show console". You can also launch the "Java plug-in" control panel (from the Start Menu/Control Panels menu) and click "show Java console").
    Both of these methods assume you're using browser from within Windows. If you're using *nix, you'll probably have to do something closer to the "Netscape" technique, but I can't provide explicit instructions.
    Hope this helps!

How long will this go on? This is a very expensive toy for kids or adults and the instructions are very vague this is all my son wanted and I can't for the life of me figure it out and frustration is setting in quickly. any help will be great.
    thanks so much

    Yes, you are on the right track. As stated in the included instruction manual, you will need to charge your iPod for four hours or until the display changes so that it shows a power plug (meaning that it is fully charged).
    Also note that while your iPod is charging, you can also add songs and videos to it.
