NEED HELP ITUNES FREEZES WHEN OPENED PLEASE HELP

hello all
whenever i open itunes on my macbook, the loading pinwheel comes up and doesn't go away until i quit itunes or turn off my computer. my itunes will 'freeze' whenever i open it and will not let me play songs or anything. please help me!

There are a lot of things that could cause this and your songs are rarely in jeopardy when the issue is iTunes so don't worry.
If you could give us your iTunes version number, and the OS version you currently have those would help narrow a little.
Did you install or change anything around the time that this started happening?
Also explain exactly what happens. does the itunes window open than hangs with pinwheel or does the application bounce like it's going to open then hang instead.
I would, even if just for good maintenance, repair permissions by going to your utilities folder opening Disc Utility selecting your HD from the left and clicking verify disc permissions. Also make a new user to test to see if iTunes opens there, if it works in a new user it's an issue with one of your user specific files, and there would be much less to sort through.
More info will help a lot in figuring out whats going on.

  • ITunes freezes when opening, please help

Whenever I try to open my iTunes it starts by "updating" my library, then it either freezes halfway through that or it freezes about 2 seconds later. I've tried to figure it out but nothing I try has been working. I've noticed that iTunes is trying to download a podcast right after but I don't know if that's the problem. I've tried to unsubscribe to the specific podcast but I can't get to it in time before it freezes. please help me

    Hi
I had the same and I feel that your library is corrupted. Don’t be afraid since I could repair the iTunes following the next steps:
    A) Recreate the library:
    Follow these steps:
    1. Quit iTunes.
    2. Locate your iTunes folder.
 For Mac OS X the iTunes folder is stored in one of the following locations:
    /Users/username/Music
 For Microsoft Windows XP and 2000 the iTunes folder is stored in
    \Documents and Settings\username\My Documents\My Music\
 For Microsoft Windows Vista the iTunes folder is stored in
    \Users\username\Music\
    3. Open your iTunes folder.
    4. Drag the iTunes Music Library.xml to the Desktop
    5. Drag the following file from your iTunes folder to the Trash:
     Microsoft Windows: "iTunes Library.itl"
    6. Open iTunes.
    7. From the File menu, choose Import.
    8. Navigate to the iTunes Music Library.xml file on the Desktop.
    9. Windows users: Click Open.
Moreover you should follow the next steps.
    1. Quit iTunes.
    2. Move the iTunes Library file located at C:\Documents and Settings\username\My Documents\My Music\iTunes to your desktop
    3. Open iTunes.
    4. From the File menu, choose Add Folder to Library.
Navigate to the folder where your music is located. Typically this is
    C:\Users\username\Music\iTunes\iTunes Music
In this way I could repair the iTunes 7.2. I apologize for my poor English and I hope to be of help for you.

  • ITunes freezes when I select help

iTunes freezes when I select help. Does the same thing in safe mode. Reinstall didn't help. iTunes 10.7.0.21. Windows 7 64 bit
When I choose iTunes help from the help menu, the help window opens with half of the window on screen and half of the window off of the screen to the right. The computer and other programs continue to work correctly but I need to use task manager to get iTunes to close.
    Any thoughts???
    Thanks, Tony

    SUCCESS!
After trying all the suggestions above I googled the issue and came across a Windows specific forum where a guy had a software conflict with Malwarebytes.
That got me thinking about a startup item conflict.
Using Msconfig, I systemattically turned off half of my startup items, did a restart, tested the result.
In my case, with half of the items off, I could access the itunes store.
I turned on half of the remaining items, restarted, tested the result.
I could still access the store.
After about 8-10 cycles of this, I found that a startup item called OC_Guru_II was the culprit.
It is an overclocking utility that came with my Gigabyte brand Nvidia video card.
I'm confident that this was my problem. It is 100% repeatable.
Hope that it helps some of you when the other stuff doesn't.
    All the best to everyone,
    Tony

  • ITunes 9 crashes when opening, please help!

After updating to the latest release of iTunes 9, it attempts to update library and when about 95% complete, just crashes. Crashes at the same exact point every single time. I tried reinstalling iTunes with a fresh download and that did not help. I get no error messages, it just force crashes every single time I try to start it. I can't even access anything in iTunes. Can someone please help me shed some light on this? Thanks!

That sounds most likely to be either a library file problem or a content file problem.

iTunes freezes when I try to transfer purchases from my iPad 2 to my laptop (MS Vista). It starts to transfer purchases but eventually results in iTunes not responding or my device timing out.  I've tried Disk Cleanup/Defrag and uninstall/re-install of iTunes in the correct sequence. Can anyone please help me?

How is your iPod configured to sync music? In other words, what options and configurations do you have enabled from under your iPod's Summary and Music tabs in iTunes?
Maybe have a look at this article as well to verify your iPod is set up for syncing music.

  • Help, iTunes crashing when opening!

I'm helping out a friend who is haping some trouble with her newly upgraded iTunes. This is her summary of the problem.
"I'm on a Windows XP computer just so you know. When I tried opening iTunes, it said something about sending an error report. I did and a window popped up that said Solution found: contact Apple Computer to obtain the update, and there was a link on that page which lead me to this article. It sounded like it covered my problem, but I couldn't delete anything by QuickTime like it said to. When I tried it would say the following file does not exist or is not a valid uninstallation log file. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling iTunes and Quicktime, and I tried getting into Windows Explorer and getting into the files to delete QuickTime, but that wouldn't delete it either. I don't know why iTunes constantly has an error report pop up whenever I try to open it, and QuickTime won't delete. Could someone help me?"
I was trying to help her but everything I could think of was not working.
    Please help.

  • Apps quit when opening PLEASE HELP!!

about two days ago i tried to log onto microsoft messenger but when it was logging in it quit and came up with an error message and asking to send a report to apple. I also tried to log on to msn with aMSN and the same thing happened. then later that day when i open certian safari web pages (it normally happens on myspace) it just quits halfway through opening a page. now when ever i open safari it tries to load the homepage but quits.
and now it seems lots of my programs are quitting randomly. Now it quits when opening iMovie, when i try and run iWeb it says it cant find my web pages i have made and then quits, dashboard widgets dont load and then hang, even the help viewer crashes as soon as i open it. and to top it all off the paim rest area of my macbook is starting to stain.
anyway so far i have verified the macintosh HD and it says its fine. but when i try to verify or repair disk permissions it says there is an error and has to quit. I have also done the hardware test and its all fine.
i have tried putting the install disk 1 that came with the macbook in and booting from it by pressing c. what is supposed to happen because it seems to be booting normaly. it just goes to the regular desktop and when i try to repair the disk with disk utility it wont let me so maybe it hasnt booted from the disk properly

  • TS1717 iTunes will not open- please help!

My iTunes will not open.  I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling, but the same message keeps showing up when I try to open iTunes.   The error reads "C\Windows\system32\dssenh.dll is either not designed to run on Windows or it contains an error.  Try installing the program again using the original installation media or contact your system administrator or the software vendor for support."
    Please Help!!!

Taken at face value, you're having trouble with one of the Windows OS dlls associated with Cryptographic Services.
I'd first try the fixit from the following Microsoft document. (One of the things it does is reregister your copy of the dssenh.dll file.)
You cannot install some updates or programs
... but if you still get the issue, I'd try an sfc /scannow as per the instructions in the following document:

  • Itunes won't open please help!!!!!!

Please help me I installed my itunes and quicktime, but the itunes wont open. I tried redownloading itunes and I even tried to install an older version of quicktime. It opened than but wouldn't work said that I needed to have the updated version. So I reinstalled the updated versions. And again it just gives me the hour glass symbol than nothing. I do not have norton and no other programs will interfer with it. Can someone please help me?

    Hey jimmymohawk,
What is the exact error message? Is it saying that Quicktime needs to updated?
This article: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93976 should help you get iTunes installed sucessfully. Quicktime will have to be uninstalled, you may have to use the part of the article "Clean up iTunes installer files on the computer," then iTunes can be repaired or reinstalled.

  • ITunes will not open, please help

the instruction at "0x0079f791" referenced memory at "0x7ffe0304." the memory could not be "written"
This is the error received by my friend when she tries to start her iTunes, and I was wondering if anyone else had seen this; It sounds more like a memory allocation error than an error with iTunes, but I figure it's worth a shot... any idea what's going on there and how to fix it?
    Thanks!

  • Music disappeared and ITunes freezes when re-syncing: Help!

Yesterday all my music, photos, and video vanished from my 60 gb iPod. Naturally I tried to re-sync, but ITunes freezes every time I plug it in and immediately unfreezes when I unplug. The error message says "The iPod cannot be synced. The required folder could not be found." I went into preferences and checked "prevent devices from syncing automatically," but the iPod still tries to sync when I plug it in and it is impossible for me to adjust any settings within ITunes.
I tried the check disk utility and my computer locks up. I also tried the manual reset, which seems to work, but I can't get the Disk Mode to work properly. When I looked in my iPod utilities, it said that iPod was almost full, yet I can't find any music or playlists despite being able to navigate the menus.
Since the iPod itself seems to be working, I'd hate to have to junk this because some settings can't be adjusted. Any help would be GREATLY appreciated!

Try putting the iPod into [Disk Mode|http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1363] to stop it from continuously rebooting. Then again attempt to restore the iPod through iTunes. Otherwise it may be the signs of a failing hard drive.
I would maybe check up on taking advantage of the warranty you have on it.

  • Help: iTunes freezes when I try to change the music folder location

    Hi everyone,
I want to change my iTunes music folder location but every time I click on the change button (Edit > Preferences > Advanced > Change) iTunes freezes. All of my music is in an external drive and I recently reinstalled windows, so I had to back up the old iTunes folder and replace the default one (after the reinstallation) with it, but now I can't set the new location of the drive because of this problem.
Any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated
    A.

Okay. Finally called Apple, and they said that this is something to do with the latest iTunes - 10.6 - and the only way to solve it is to restore my iPod, and then arrange it so I manually manage my music, etc. Which I learned how to do here: http://en.kioskea.net/faq/3740-how-to-manually-manage-music-and-videos-in-itunes  It worked. Woo-hoo!

  • My Itunes will not open, please help

I am running version 10.7.0.21 - since upgrade itunes will not open.  I have visited the support site and done many things to get this working - taken hours of my time I do not have, including setting up a new user and same result.
My PC is running Windows 7.  I need my itunes as I have 4 ipods and 3 iphones - I need to back up a phone as I have just upgraded,
One error I seem to have caught is as follows:
    Problem Event Name     BEX
    Application     itunes.exe
    Version     10.7.0.21
    timestamp     504d85d9
    Fault Module Name Quicktime.qts_unloaded
    Fault Module Version     0.0.0.0.
If someone has some suggestions, it would be much appreciated.

  • The iphoto and itunes will not open please help

on my Mac G5 the iphoto and itunes will not open can anyone help

Could be many things, we should start with this...
    "Try Disk Utility
    1. Insert the Mac OS X Install disc, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
    2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu at the top of the screen. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.
    3. Click the First Aid tab.
    4. Select your Mac OS X volume.
    5. Click Repair. Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk."
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106214
Then try a Safe Boot, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, reboot when it completes.
(Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive.)
Then, hold the Option key down when trying to open iPhoto, does it ask where it's Library is? Or what exactly happens?
