Need help...ITunes won't open

As of Friday, 10/20/06, my Itunes worked perfectly, but when I went to open Itunes on Monday 10/23/06 I got this error message:
iTunes has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.
It then allows me to send an error report. I've checked the message boards and tried the "uninstall and then re-install quicktime alone" solutions, but I still get the error message. Any other thoughts on how this happened and what I can do to fix it are very much appreciated.

If you're finding a lot of spyware, it's probably you're not getting it all. Try another tool such as SpyBot Search & Destroy or Lavasoft's AdWare. No single tool can find it all, so it may be that there's still something lurking. Sometime's it's just not possible to get it all cleared out, in which case scrubbing the drive and reinstalling Windows is the only cure (I've had to do this a dozen times in the last couple of years for people here where I work).
If running a couple of spyware utilities doesn't clear it out, then try logging in to Windows as another user and see if iTunes still crashes. If it works as another user, then it's most likely a problem with your iTunes preference files or library.
Post back with your results from the above two suggestions and we'll go from there.

Hi i recently defragmented my computer and in doing so i had to delete some stuff. Now everytime i open itunes it says 'itunes cannot run because some of its required files are missing. Please reinstall itunes'. I reinstall itunes and it does the same thing again but it won't say which files are missing. Please help.

I am pretty adept at troubleshooting. I have been using iTunes daily, but now it will not open (even though it shows as a background process).
I have uninstalled and re-installed two times.
I have restarted my computer several times.
I have tried holding down CTRL + SHIFT when opening iTunes (nothing happens)
When I click the icon to start iTunes, it doesn't appear as an open application in the Taskbar, although it shows it is running (image below).
I have two iPhones (work and personal) and an iPod shuffle.... really need iTunes!
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

hello all
whenever i open itunes on my macbook, the loading pinwheel comes up and doesn't go away until i quit itunes or turn off my computer. my itunes will 'freeze' whenever i open it and will not let me play songs or anything. please help me!

There are a lot of things that could cause this and your songs are rarely in jeopardy when the issue is iTunes so don't worry.
If you could give us your iTunes version number, and the OS version you currently have those would help narrow a little.
Did you install or change anything around the time that this started happening?
Also explain exactly what happens. does the itunes window open than hangs with pinwheel or does the application bounce like it's going to open then hang instead.
I would, even if just for good maintenance, repair permissions by going to your utilities folder opening Disc Utility selecting your HD from the left and clicking verify disc permissions. Also make a new user to test to see if iTunes opens there, if it works in a new user it's an issue with one of your user specific files, and there would be much less to sort through.
More info will help a lot in figuring out whats going on.

NEED HELP- iPhoto won't open

I had no problems with my iPhoto and then the other day I went to open it and it says that "The photo library was created with an unreleased version of iPhoto. Please quit and upgrade by opening in iPhoto 2 or iPhoto 4".
I checked and I have version 5.0.4.
What should I do? I tried downloading iPhoto2 but it says there is nothing to install. I cannot find iPhoto4 to download.
I am not the MOST computer savy person that exists...sooo PLEASE HELP!!!! I have read that other people have had this problem, I just never say any answers....

So far I have not seen any solution for that error message in these discussions. If you have a recent backup of your iPhoto Library folder then take the old library out of the Pictures folder and put your backup library in there (I suggest you backup the backup before you do this) Launch iPhoto and hopefully everything will be back to normal. If you don't have a backup then...
The only thing I can tell you to do right now is to create a new library and import/add to the library to reimport your images.
these are the steps:
Close iPhoto
Drag the iPhoto Library folder to the desktop
Launch iPhoto
In the next window that opens choose to create a new library.
When the new empty library opens go to File/add to library
In the next window navigate to the library on your desktop and choose it.
Your images will be imported in nice dated rolls. (make sure your view is set to sort by rolls to see it) There are a couple of caveats to this. You will get rolls named "Originals" These rolls will contain your video clips and your original images that you had edited. If you had RAW files they would be in those rolls too (I don't do RAW, so I don't know for sure) Delete what you don't want from those rolls. You will also get the jpeg pointer files to your video clips imported. They will just be jpegs and will not point to the video clips anymore as iPhoto made new ones when the clips were imported again. You can delete those. they should be in a roll right next to the newly imported video clips so they are not hard to find. The thumbnail files don't get imported as iPhoto makes new ones when the images are imported.
You will have to redo your albums, keywords, etc.

My internet connection is working fine, I'm getting errors when trying to update my Black 5G 60 GB iPod which is formatted for Windows. I'm getting errors 1417 and I also got -50. Can anybody help me fix the problem so my iPod can play games? I really want to play games because I bought the iPod a little bit more than 3 months ago and I believe it should be able to play games because it's still new. Please Help

It sounds like you actually have a 2G iPod Touch, which can only be updated to iOS 4.2.1 and no later. See here to help you verify what generation your iPod Touch is.

As for the iPhone 3G, it can only go as high as iOS 4.2.1 as well.

Need help -- iTunes won't recognize two ipod minis

Suddenly our iMac has stopped recognizing both of my kids iPod minis. When connected to a firewire port, the screens on both minis show the animation for "battery charging" -- but neither one appears in iTunes. This problems had never occurred before. This is what I have tried to do so far without success: tried each mini in different firewire ports; repaired permissions; restarted computer; tried a different cable.
As you can imagine, both of my kids consider this an urgent issue . . . .

ITunes won't open after moving to external HD...HELP please

Needed more room on my Mac HD so I moved iTunes to an external disc. That freed up a lot more space however iTunes won't open! I get error #13014. I downloaded a new version(9.1) onto my Mac and that one won't open.
Can anyone help me with this?

I moved the app and Library; I ended up removed all iTunes stuff(except) Library and reinstalled it. It now starts fresh....transferred stuff over however......I can't sync my iPhone...it says there another Library already synced....how do I know which one, I have a few(my fault).
Can I get these cleaned up somehow?

ITunes won't open. It says language needs to be changed to English???

iTunes won't open on my computer. It says "This version of iTunes has not been correctly localized for this language. Please run the English version." I don't know how the language could have ever gotten changed from English to begin with. iTunes won't even let me in to change any of the settings. I can't get past the error message.

Click here and follow the instructions. You may need to completely remove and reinstall iTunes and all related components, or run the process multiple times; this won't normally affect its library, but that should be backed up anyway.

ITUNES WON'T OPEN AND GIVES AN ERROR MESSAGE HELP

my iTunes won't open, and instead pops up a window saying:
"The iTunes application could not be opened. An unknown error occured (-200)."
Something similar to this is happening with my mac DVD player. When I try to open that, it won't open and says:
"There was an initialization error. The audio output device could not be found. Please make sure speakers or an appropriate output device is connected. [-70027]"
doesn't come in to handy when you are about to watch a new episode of Lost .
anyway, I saw the speaker thing and went online. Any sound online (music, popups) can all make sounds - so my computer isnt permanetly muted. I've also restarted my computer, done the system updates, and gone into system prefereces to mess around with the volume. The computer recognizes the internal speakers. HELP!

Here are the steps that should help:
1. Close all applications.
2. Go into the Finder>Home>Library>Preferences
3. Delete 'com.apple.iDVD.plist' and 'com.apple.iTunes.plist'
4. Restart Immediatley.

Did you actually download the installer from Apple or did you use Software Update. You can download the installer http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
Maybe I'm old fashioned but I would consider repairing permissions first using Disk Utility because something caused this to go wrong the first time. And of course make a backup of your whole library first. It shouldn't happen but some have complained about their libraries being wiped out by iTunes updates. Better safe...

this may happen on external drives if:
The external drive was hotpluged (removed) without going the correct "eject" way
The iTunes library (database) got corrupted
First Aid for external drive
Close iTunes
Unmount (eject) external drive the right way.
Mount drive again
Go to Workplace -> right click external drive -> choose "clean up" This will force the filesystem to rescan the file structure of the drive and rebuilding the file system table and journaling file.
After the tool shows "done" (could last some time depending on size of drive) restart iTunes
If your iTunes library is on your internal drive, this may happen
The system was not shoot down correct, e.g. "pulled the plug"
The iTunes library (database) got corrupted
First Aid for internal hard drive
Close iTunes
Reboot system
Go to Workplace -> right click external drive -> choose "clean up"
After the tool shows "done" (could last some time depending on size of drive)
Reboot system, restart iTunes
If none of the above fixes your problem, post here.

Delete the shortcut and make a new one. The 'real' application will probably be fine if you launch it from the Start/Programs menu.
