• Desperately Need Help - Cannot Update or Install Software

have an iMac Intel Core 2 Duo running on Mac OS X 10.6.4  I can't update existing software or install new software.  Every time I try the installation either does not occur (e.g. for the Mac OS X software or iTunes where the install occurs with a re-start) or gets hung up a the last stage of the installation.  I have a time capsule as well so am wondering if I should just reinitialize the whole system.  I've already tried creating a new administrator and installing updates from there but that does not work either.  PLEASE HELP

I've already tried creating a new administrator and installing updates from there but that does not work either.
Phil...
So it's a system wide issue.
How much free space on the startup disk?
Right or control click the MacintoshHD icon. Click Get Info. In the Get Info window you will see Capacity and Available. Make sure you always have a minimum of 15% free disk space.  Freeing Up Hard Disk Space - Mac Guides
Probably a good idea to run Disk Utility and check to see if the startup disk needs repairing > Using Disk Utility to verify or repair disks

• Need help with some JS installing Bumpbox 2.0

I am trying to add a lightbox effect to a pdf on my website, I found a Javascript plugin at http://www.artviper.net/bumpbox-demo/index.html that looks like it should do the trick, but I am having trouble getting it to work.
To narrow down the problem I created a test.html file that I stuck in the root directory of the folder I downloaded from their site (so I am working locally off my desktop at this point)
My code is as follows... I feel like I am missing something super obvious, does anyone see it? (do I need to define the .bump class in the css file?)
Thank you in advance for the much needed help!
<!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd">
<html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml">
<head>
<meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=UTF-8" />
<title>Untitled Document</title>
</head>
<body>
          <a href="http://www.artviper.net/test.pdf" class="bump" rel="800-350">PDF File &raquo;</a><br />
<script type="text/javascript" src="js/mootools.js"></script>
<script type="text/javascript" src="js/bumpbox-2.0.1.js"></script>
<script type="text/javascript"> doBump( '.bump',750, 500, '111', '900', '0.8', 5, 1 ,'333', 15,'000', 4,
                     Fx.Transitions.Bounce.EaseOut,
                     Fx.Transitions.Bounce.EaseOut,
                     'images/demo_bg_bumpbox.png',
                     'top left',
                     'repeat-x' ); </script>
</body>
</html>

These paths won't work because they point to files on your local hard drive.
<script type="text/javascript" src="file:///Macintosh HD/Users/Robert/Downloads/bumpbox Folder copy/js/mootools.js"></script>
<script type="text/javascript" src="file:///Macintosh HD/Users/Robert/Downloads/bumpbox Folder copy/js/bumpbox-2.0.1.js"></script>
Are you working within a properly defined local site?
Did you save those javascript files to the js folder in your local site root?
Correct path to scripts for this test page should look like this:
<script type="text/javascript" src="../js/mootools.js"></script>
<script type="text/javascript" src="../js/bumpbox-2.0.1.js"></script>
PS.  Do not add spaces to folder or file names.  It can create problems for web files.

• NEED HELP error messages - cannot install iTunes upgrade

I'm running Windows Vista.
I've been using iTunes for about a year, no problem.
When I went to download the iTunes latest version I have had nothing but problems. I keep getting this error message on trying to install the upgrade for iTunes, and now I cannot even use iTunes:
iTunes could not be installed because Visual Basic Script (VBscript) is not installed or has been disabled. Make sure VBscript is installed, turn off script blocking in anti-virus and personal firewall software, re-register VBscript, and then install iTunes.
I have no idea what that message means and I need step by step directions on how to find out of perform whatever that message means.
Your help would be GREATLY appreciated.

• Need Help-Trying to re-install iTunes

Service 'Apple Mobile Device' failed to start.  Verify you have sufficient privliges to start system services.....What does that mean????  I don't have an iphone and have never used my phone for anything on itunes.  So not only can I NOT sync my ipad, I can't even get iTunes to download on my computer.  Any suggestions??

• Help me with a strange problem-itunes wont re-install

Hi there. I recently went to open my iTunes, and instead of opening, the windows installer started. Apparently it thinks iTunes was never on my computer. I try it again, and let it install. I then get an error message that reads,
"Error writing to file C:\Program Files\iTunes\iTunes.Resources\nb.lproj\Localizable.strings. Verify that you have access to that directory."
Now I've never gotten that error before, and I have access to that directory, because I have administrator rights on my computer. Can anyone please help me out?

"Error writing to file C:\Program Files\iTunes\iTunes.Resources\nb.lproj\Localizable.strings. Verify that you have access to that directory."
error messages like that (especially citing files in the lproj folders) are often associated with file damage or disk damage in the vicinity of the files.
so let's try running a chkdsk over your C drive:

does the chkdsk find/repair any damage? if so, does an itunes install go through properly afterwards?

• HELP iTunes wont open but runs in system process on xp64 pro

iTunes was working just the other week. Now all of the sudden it wont open. However it will be running in my system processes taking up 36,752k
I've searched the forums and tried the suggestions also installing and uninstalling and upgrading to the latest version. iTunes very rarely gives me a problem and nothing major has happened to my system. I need a fix for this ASAP I use iTunes just about every day!!
Thanks,
Nick

Yeah great thanks, but i've been using it on xp64 for a year already with no problems
Xp64 doesnt have problems running 32bit programs for me
However there's got to be some kind of registry for this.

• DID SYSTEM RESTORE, LOST ITUNES WONT RE-INSTALL

Right, this one is bugging me.
ive just got an ipod nano for my birthday (november) and have installed all my songs onto it.
but then after a few weeks of having itunes my pc decided it didnt like its sound device, so the sound on my pc completley vanished, so we tried re-installing all the drivers, no avail.
so, (this is on windows xp) i did a system restore to an earlier restore point (before itunes was installed!)
and then did another one, before that date too!
now, i dont have sound, i dont have itunes, i dont have quicktime.
and whenever i try install any of these i get this error message

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y163/vibrating_cake/ipodprob.jpg
same for quicktime, just with quicktime in the name rather than itunes.
this is incredibly annoying as i cant even watch dvd's on my desktop anymore because something is blocking my sound device
so what can i do?????????
(to summarise)
i have windows xp
i did two system restores BEFORE i installed ITUNES
i cant re-install ITUNES because i get an error ITUNES.MSI is on a network device which is unavailable.
i dont want to loose all my songs and albums because theres over 1000songs in there.
and itunes will not open or install!
oh... and i have tried backup on the system restore function on windows xp, wont backup BOTH system restores!

If you are not getting sound, go to your control panel and open: Sounds and Audio Devices Properties>>Audio tab and check that your Sound playback device is set to your sound card.
For reinstalling iTunes, after that mess I suggest you do a full removal of iTunes and related programs with Installer cleanup of any programs that do not uninstall, then a reinstall.
Here is the method, follow it carefully and don't leave anything out.
Download a fresh copy of iTunes and the stand alone version of Quicktime (the one without iTunes)
http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/win.html
http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
Download and install Microsoft Installer cleanup utility, there are instructions on the page as well as the download. Note that what you download is the installer not the program – you have to run it to install the program.
To run the program – All Programs>>Windows Install Cleanup
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290301/
Now use the following method to remove iTunes and its components:
XP
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1925
Vista
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1923
*If you hit a problem with one of the uninstalls don't worry*, carry on with the deleting of files and folders as directed in the method.
When you get to deleting Quicktime files in the system32 folder as advised in the method, you can delete any file or folder with Quicktime in the name.
Restart your PC.
Run the Microsoft Installer Cleanup Utility. (Start > All Programs > Windows Install Clean Up)
Remove any references you find to the programs you removed - strictly speaking you only need to worry about those programs where the uninstall failed.
If you don’t see an entry for one of the programs that did not uninstall, look out for blank entries or numeric entries that look like version numbers e.g. 7.x for Quicktime or 1.x for Bonjour.
restart your PC
Install the stand alone Quicktime and check that it works.
If it does, install iTunes.
