Need help migrating from Cinewave to Kona

Our graphics department is preparing to switch from the discontinued Cinewave RT (v 4.6) to a Kona 2. The Cinewave RT is currently installed on a G5 running FCP HD (4.5). The Kona is on a G5 running FCP 5.
Our problem is with the gigabytes of clips that were created with the Cinewave. They are in Targa Cine YUV16 codec. When we try to play these clips in QuickTime Player, we get a white screen with no audio. Final Cut Pro 5 shows the clips as black, and reports that they need to be rendered. But they won't render.
Is there any way for us to convert these clips so that they're compatible with the Kona 2 and beyond, short of dumping them to tape, or SDI to SDI?
Please help!!

Talked to AJA about that today....
That codec the 2Vuy codec is for 8 bit video...
The codec used on this Cinewave footage (RT V4.6) was:
Targa CineYUV16, which is a 10 bit codec.
We kinda found a way to do it, but it involves bringing it into FCP, with copmressor setting to match input filetype, and then Saving As, and selecting the compressor format that we normally use, then starting anew with the now-converted files.
Is there any clip conversion programs that will convert clips from one codec format into another, Say, put the files needing-to-be-converted in one folder, and having it convert those files to the same codec type (that our Kona 2 card is set for) and place them in a different folder, keeping the same filenames?
A file conversion program would seem to be a better approach, but I'm not smart in those types of programs....

  • Need help migrating from Mail 3.6 to Mail 4.2

    I just bought a new 27" i7 iMac w/ 8gb ram, 1 TB hard drive.
I'm trying to migrate my settings over from my old G4 17" Powerbook. I'm running 10.5.8 on the laptop with Mail 3.6.
How do I import my mailboxes from my old computer onto the new one? I've tried copying the old Mail folder over to the new computer over firewire. That didn't work. I then archived the mailboxes on the old computer and brought those files over to the new machine. I tried to import them on the new machine directly through mail, no dice.
    Any thoughts or suggestions?

you need to do it with both the Mail folder AND the mail preference file.
quit Mail and copy over the whole folder /users/username/library/mail AND the file /users/username/library/preferences/com.apple.mail.plist. start Mail and it should look as it did on the old computer.
BTW, using Migration Assistant you can migrate your entire user including Mail, address book, music and so on.

  • Need help migrating from damaged MacBook Pro to New MacBook Pro.

My Mid-2008 MacBook Pro's logic board died and I have just purchased a 2012 Refurb MacBook Pro to replace the old laptop. I do have a backup on Time Machine but the most recent backup is about a week old. I would like to be able to do the migration using the disk in the old laptop, but it will not completely boot up and will arrive at the "forced shutdown" screen soon after it boots. Can I still connect to the old laptop using migration assistant even though I am at the forced shutdown screen? Old computer is running OSX Lion. I think the new one will have either Mountain Lion or possibly Mavericks on it. I've used Migration Assistant previously, so I am familiar with how it works. I'm just not sure if it will work in this instance with the old computer.

It looks like it did change. (We're talking about 5 years ago and at least 3 operating systems ago), but I do remember that the instructions for Migration Assistant back then said that on the old computer where you just needed to access the drive, you had to hold down a key or keys when after hitting the power key. This will allow access by the new computer to the harddrive in the old computer without the need to boot up, basically making the old computer an oversized harddrive enclosure.
It worked perfectly when I did it with my old iBook which would not even get to the gray Apple logo, but the MacBook was able to fully access the drive, allowing me to migrate the apps, fonts and work files stored on it, including my entire iTunes library.
like I said earlier, if this is no longer the case, than removing the drive from the old computer and inserting it in an external drive is the next best way to go. Of course, having a fairly recent backup on Time Machine should also work.

  • Need help migrating from pop to imap

    Hi,
I have a domain hosted by GoDaddy and have been using their pop3 mail service. Apple Mail is set up so the messages are deleted from the server when they download to my iMac.
I've now upgraded to their service allowing me to use IMAP but I don't want to lose the emails in my inbox and sent items on the Mac. In fact I'd like them so they will be synced with the IMAP server.
How would one go about this, given that I want to use exactly the same email address for IMAP as I was under the pop3 settings?
Anyone know how I can go about this?
    Any help much appreciated.
    Neil

I'm not sure how you can sync the emails you've collected via POP to the IMAP account, or whether it's possible but to setup the new IMAP account should be straightforward. Someone else on here will hopefully be able to advise on the syncing possibilities. I would take the precaution of having a backup of your current 'On My Mac' emails before doing the following.
To create the IMAP account in Mail:
    Mail>Preferences>Accounts
Click on the '+' to add an account
    Select 'Add other mail account'
Enter your credentials including the word IMAP in the 'Full Name' field (to help differentiate it from your existing POP account with the same email address - you can edit the name later if nec)
Once the detail is filled in hold down the Alt (Option) key before you click on Create and it should change to Continue
The next screen then allows you to specify that the account is IMAP. Input the server addresses and it should be clear from there.

  • HT201250 I am very frustrated. New to iMac products. Just bought a 27" iMac two days ago. Received no manual, no booklet with ID registration number, etc. Need help migrating PC to iMac. How do I get in touch?

Need help migrating pc to imac. Do not have manual. Trying to get infornation online, but, cannot get an answer.
I have downloaded pc migration assistant to pc windows 8 pro. Was able to get imac to finally give me "the number"
Did the same with pc received number once, not same as imac. Pop up window with info dissappers and cannot recover
What am I doing wrong? Paid extra for extended support package and it took hours to finally get it registered and approved.
However, no help. Yikes, I feel like a make another great mistake!

First: If you purchased AppleCare you should call back at 1-800-APL-CARE and ask for further assistance.  You'll want to learn how to retrieve your operating system version and your IMac's serial number as you'll need these for when you call AppleCare:
Click on the Black Apple in the top left hand corner of your Imac's physical monitor
Click on About this Mac from the drop down menu
Below the silver Apple and "OS X" it will say "Version 10.x.x"  (If this number is not 10.8.4, run Software Update by hitting the button marked "Software Update")
Click on this number twice in a row.  This is your machine's serial number.  (zeros can be used; the letter "O" is never used).
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1349 for details how to find serial numbers on Apple products
If you have an Apple ID (you can create one at appleid.apple.com), you can login to supportprofile.apple.com, register an Apple product, and sign up for VoicePass, which, if you give your product a name e.g. Maria's Imac, you can speak that over the phone and skip having to give the serial number when you call.
If you have an Apple ID, you can also call AppleCare and ask them to activate VoicePass.
This is the link for your tech specs: http://support.apple.com/kb/SP667
This is the link for your quick start guide: http://manuals.info.apple.com/en_US/imac_late2012_quickstart.pdf
This is the link for important product information: http://manuals.info.apple.com/en_US/imac_late2012_quickstart.pdf
Second: this is an educated guess: Your new Imac and your PC need to be either on the same wifi network or you need to connect them physically with an Ethernet cable (available at Radio Shack, Wal Mart, etc).  My guess is that they are not, and so your IMac and PC are not talking to each other.  That might be why you are seeing a different code on the PC.
Time Machine would not be relevant to your issue.  http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4796 is the link to relevant instructions, however it left out some housekeeping you should do on your Imac before you begin a migration
Run Software Update on the IMac to confirm that the latest updates are installed.
On the IMac, make sure that you have the latest versions of any third-party software.
On the source Mac, open System Preferences, click Sharing, and make sure there is a name in the Computer Name field.
Do not let either computer go to sleep while you are attempting to migrate. To disable sleep on the IMac
Choose System Preferences from the Apple () menu.
Choose Energy Saver from the View menu.
Adjust the "Computer sleep:" slider to Never. (Change this back after the migration is done).
You can adjust "Display Sleep" to a few minutes - this won't affect the migration
Uncheck the box if checked next to "Put Hard Disks to sleep when possible"
I don't know Windows 8 but this link looks promising as to how to disable sleep: http://techmell.net/how-to/disable-enable-sleep-mode-hibernate-windows-8/
Once you've done this, either connect both Mac and PC to the same wifi network and surf the web with each to confirm that connection is working - or connect them to each other with an Ethernet cable.
Then relaunch Migration Assistant on your Imac and your PC, and follow the instructions in http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4796 starting with your IMac, or call AppleCare back.
Understand that if you have further issues, you'll need to help AppleCare help you by:
walking them through the steps you've taken in Migration Assistant
letting them guide you as they isolate the issue to either:
    The Imac's software
    The IMac's hardware
    The PC's software
    The PC's hardware
Firewall settings (maybe - especially if 3rd party firewalls are installed)
    The wifi connection, if used
    The ethernet connection, if used
I think the issue is likely what I guessed, or it's a software issue.
To learn more about your new Mac, I recommend this link: http://www.apple.com/support/imac/intel/
    And this book: http://www.amazon.com/books/dp/0789749890
I am a technical support professional who troubleshoots Macs all day long.  I do this for a living.  The book above is the most accurate, and easy to understand book I've seen with respect to using Mountain Lion and its various applications.  It's for a MacBook but the focus is on the software which is why I recommend it.
Don't feel like you have to rush to upgrade to OS X Mavericks.  In fact, you should always confirm both all the hardware and software you use is compatible with any new operating system before you upgrade.  And ask yourself: "why do I need it now?"  Because it's new is not a good answer.
In the future, specifying any troubleshooting others have done will help those on these boards help you.  Also, don't let a specific issue lead you to assume you've made an all-encompassing mistake.  It's just one issue, and it's resolvable.
And everyone else: giving a dozen recommendations for reading will only leave the petitioner bewildered.  Start with three.  And try responding with a hypothesis as to what's causing the primary problem!

  • Need help getting from 10.5.8 to 10.6.

need help getting from 10.5.8 to 10.6.  i know i'm late to the game!

If you are not sure of what you are doing,If you are worried about losing anything when doing a major systems upgrade/update,
Before embarking on a major OS upgrade, it would be wise, advisable and very prudent if you backup your current system to an external connected and Mac formatted Flash drive OR externally connected USB, Thunderbolt or FireWire 800, Mac formatted hard drive. Then, use either OS X Time Machine app to backup your entire system to the external drive OR purchase, install and use a data cloning app, like CarbonCopyCloner or SuperDuper, to make an exact and bootable copy (clone) of your entire Mac's internal hard drive. This step is really needed in case something goes wrong with the install of the new OS or you simply do not like the new OS, you have a very easy way/procedure to return your Mac to its former working state.
Older version of CarbonCopyCloner found here.
    http://mac.filehorse.com/download-carbon-copy-cloner/2734/
Older versions of SuperDuper can be found on the SuperDuper Website and Homepage.

Then, determine if your Mac meets ALL minimum system install requirements.
Mac OS X v10.6 Snow Leopard system requirements
    Purchased Installer disc here.
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC573Z/A/mac-os-x-106-snow-leopard
To install Snow Leopard for the first time, you must have a Mac with:
    An Intel processor
An internal or external DVD drive, or DVD or CD Sharing
At least 1 GB of RAM (additional RAM is recommended)
A built-in display or a display connected to an Apple-supplied video card supported by your computer
At least 5 GB of disk space available, or 7 GB of disk space if you install the developer tools.
In addition, see this discussion for more relevant info that you may need if you have any other questions or issues.

  • Need help migrating Mail/iCal/Address data from 10.3 to 10.7

Hi, I'm helping a relative migrate from an 8-year old iMac (10.3.9) to a new one running Lion. Mostly it's going to be a clean sweep app-wise, but we need to move iCal, Mail and Address Book data across. Of course, these apps have changed a fair bit in across the last 4 'full' versions of OS X, and the folder structures within the user library no longer match between machines. Can anyone advise me what to copy and what to junk? I appreciate this is a bit of a vague question, but that's the situation. Any help much appreciated. Thanks.

The webtogo was dropped in 11.x.    so the URL has changed.  This is one of those situations which needs to be handled by support.   Have you filed a request with support yet?
    thanks

  • Help Migrating from !0.4 iBook to MBPRO 2.4

Just bought MB Pro. Need to migrate all my files and programs from iBook running 10.4. I have read about issues migrating files from G4 to intel (universal binary). Not sure of best sequence but was thinkging of:
    1. Boot MBPRO but not update to 10.5 yet (can I even do this, I know the box has a disk for Leopard).
    2. Use Migration assistant to copy:
    -user documents
-mail, iCal, adress book, safari data
-itunes Library (worried about this one!)
-selected applications (don't have too many)
    -keychain library
    3. Then update to 10.5
Does this make sense? I am worried if I copy the library data directly from 10.4 to 10.5 I might bugger things up (especially with Mail).
I have iPhone synced to iTunes - is there a separate library folder for iphone or is everything stored in iTunes library?
Any words of advice? Should I roll the dice and let Migration Assistant transfer all data and Applications?
    Help appreciated!

Sorry, forgot to thank Kappy for the useful post on migrating to intel Macs. THANKS KAPPY!

  • Need help migrating OD users and user data

    I need some advise.
I have OD user accounts, more precisely NetHomeAccounts,  and the users home folders reside on a 1TB RAID.  The RAID is full.  No surprise, new that would happen.
I've acquired a 12TB RAID that i plan to move the home folders too.
I also want to consolidate two servers into one. I believe I can use migration assistant to move the OD acounts from one server to another.
my question is about the user data i need to move between two RAIDs...
should I use rsyc to move the NetAccount Home folders from the full RAID to the new 12TB RAID?
    - will the accounts migrated from server A to server B recognize there old home folder that is now hosted on a new 12TB RAID?  will i run into permission errors?
    please advise. Thank You.

There are serveral ways you can do this, and would depend very much on how you have set things up, although I feel the simplest would simply to shut your file sharing services down, clone the old RAID volume to the new RAID volume, modify/recreate your Users file sharing volume to point to the new RAID drive (so there's no need to modify OD records) and start your file sharing services again.
Another way would be to use the ditto (or rsync) command in Terminal to do the copy process if you aren't wanting to more the entire contents of a volume. Ultimately if your OD user records aren't being changed then user IDs, and hence permissions, should remain constant.
Without know exactly what is where and how things are set up it's hard to know exactly what the preferred route would be.

  • Need help migrating photos (and hopefully album books) from iphoto6 to iPhoto '11

hello all and thanks in advance for your help !
Just purchased a new 21.5' iMac on Friday, and have been successfully moving data etc from my existing (5-year old) iMac running OS X (10.6.8) to my new iMac using an ethernet connection.
I now need to move our 12,000 photos from the old iMac, and it currently has iPhoto 6 (ver 6.0.6 (322)) on it. My wife created three large "album books" which we have not been able to order because we have iPhoto 6, and the books are no longer supported on iPhoto6. I didn't upgrade that computer to iPhone 9x which I believe does allow books because I knew we were going to get the new iMac.
So my question : is it possible to migrate the photos as well as the existing folders, albums, and especially the BOOKS to our new iMac ??  My wife REALLY doesn't want to recreate three years' worth of books !
Thanks in advance for your replies - Jeff

For the record - Connect the two Macs together (network, firewire target mode, etc) and drag the iPhoto library intact as a single entity from the old Mac to the pictures folder of the new Mac - launch iPhoto on the new mac and it will open the library and convert it as needed and you will be ready move forward.
Book have changed a lot since iPhoto 6 and may not convert well though

  • I need help migrating my applications from my old G5 power mac to my new macbook pro

Im struggling migrating my applications from my G5 power mac to my new macbook pro. My G5 runs on OS X 10.5.8 and when using the traditional tool of Migration assistant my new macbook urges me to update my G5 which it obviously it can't due to its original licensing agreements. I have no codes for my software as it came on the pc: I need , Logic pro 9, the complete adobe CS4 package and final cut pro . How can i put this on my new mac ??

So you never really owned the software to begin with then. Software is licensed and has to be transferred and when you bought your Mac (PC) they really did not.
I have no codes for my software as it came on the pc: I need , Logic pro 9, the complete adobe CS4 package and final cut pro . How can i put this on my new mac ??
As for a temporary solution, you can run 10.6.8 as a VM under later versions of Mac OS X like Mavericks so you can have use of Rosetta and it runs the PowerPC code.
Your new Intel Mac can run Windows natively also, can dual boot both Mac and Windows, if that is of any use, for some it is.
Right now you are not in the MacBook Pro forum! :-) This is Mac Pro sans "Book" and is not a laptop at all, but a 'trash can' or tower.
    Lappy would be here:
