Need Help Moving Aperture Library to new MacBook

I am unable to move my Aperture 3.1.1 library from my old (2008) MacBook Pro to the new one which I just got. It is a managed library.
When I try to move the library over I get the following error message +"One or more items can’t be copied to “Pictures” because you don’t have permission to read them. Do you want to copy the items you are allowed to read?"+.
I have already Repaired Aperture Permissions and Database and Rebuilt the Database.
Please help. Apple won't!

Niel you are a god! The files appear to be copying over after your suggestion. It will be awhile before I am sure everything is completely set as I am copying a 100GB Aperture library over firewire. However it appears this fix did the trick.
It has been a wasteful and stressful afternoon dealing with this.
Thank You!

  • Need help moving iPod library to new Mac Mini

The bad news is that my 4 year old Mirror Door Dual Processor PowerMacG4 finally gave up the ghost on me. The good news is that I then went out and bought a shinny new Mac Mini. Thinking it would be easy (what was I thinking) I then attached my iPod 2Gen 15GB to my new iTunes and it promptly wiped it clean for me (read as PANIC, as I have literally thousands of dollars invested in iTunes music). Not to be a snob, but I also own a iPod Mini (4 GB) that also had a copy of the library on it.
HOW do I copy the library to my new Mac?? I also have a Mac Powerbook 12" and it has a dated copy of the library on it...
Is there ANYTHING that is easy with these Mac's??

  • Need Step-by-Step Instructions for Moving Aperture Library to New iMac

I've been using Aperture on an old MacBook Pro and am totally out of memory on it (I have less than 4GB free out of 465 GB).  I'm needing to move my Aperture library over to a newly purchased iMac.
I have already installed Aperture on the new iMac and have updated the version to 3.5.1.  Aperture on my old MacBook Pro is version 3.4.5.  Will this difference in versions be a problem as I move the library over?
On the MacBook Pro, I use a referenced library, housing all of my masters on an external drive.  I had to do this because of insufficient memory/storage capacity.
I do not have any vaults.
While I had been backing up to an old TimeMachine, I ran into problems with it a few months back (would spin and spin and spin and never complete a backup) and stopped attempting to back up to it.  We have purchased a new TimeMachine for use with the new iMac, but have not had our AV guys out to the house to connect it to an otherwise overly complicated whole-house AV system.  So, I'm afraid TimeMachine is not the useful mechanism in transferring the library to the new computer.
The thunderbolt connection evidently will not work with the old MacBook Pro, so this isn't the transfer mechanism either.
Please tell me in very simple steps how to move my library over to the new computer.  Please!  I have read through the Aperture users manual and do not see this topic addressed directly, though it is vaguely mentioned within the discussion on vaults.  I have searched this community and do not find a simple enough explanation.
Do I need to run out and get another external drive and set up a vault to do the transfer?  But, would that even work with the referenced library?  There is no way I can convert to a managed library on the MacBook Pro, as I am out of space.
Please help!  I have tons of photo projects that I was wanting to complete for the holidays gift-giving, but I'm at a standstill until I can get up and running on the new computer.
    Many thanks for your feedback

If you cannot connect the old mac via thunderbolt or firewire in target mode, an external drive - large enough to hold the library plus some additional free space - would really be the best option for the transfer. I would not use the network to copy a referenced library. You do not need to create a vault.
Connect the drive to the old Mac.
Make sure the external drive is formatted for Mac - MacOS X Extended (Journaled).
Set the "Ignore Ownership on this volume" flag on the external drive.
Copy the Aperture library over to the external drive by dragging it in the Finder.
Now double-click it to open it in Aperture.
To move all references images to the external drive select all images in Aperture in the Photos view and use the command "File > Relocate Originals" and select a folder on your external drive as the destination.
Once the library and the referenced files are safely on your external drive, I'd run a "Repair" using the First Aid Tools: See this Manual page:  Repairing and Rebuilding Your Aperture Library: Aperture 3 User Manual
Test the library on the new drive and check, if everything transferred safely.
Now dismount the drive and connect it to your new mac.
Copy the library to your new Mac by dragging it in the Finder from the drive to a folder on your new mac.
Now double-click it to open it in Aperture. Aperture will now upgrade it to version 3.5.
Use the command "File > Relocate Originals" to move the originals where you want them.

  • Need Help With Appleworks Files on New Macbook

    Hey Everyone,
I had an old iMac blueberry with OS 9.2 using appleworks. I just bought a MACBOOK and i got iWORK and MS OFFICE 2004 installed on it. How can i get my appleworks files to open up on my new MACBOOK.
    please help
    -

will Appleworks transfer and run on an INTEL based
    MAC?
AppleWorks 6 is a "package" that contains both a Classic (Mac OS 9) application and an OS X application. The rest of what's essential to AppleWorks 6's operation is included in the other items inside the AppleWorks 6 folder. AppleWorks will generate all needed items outside this folder when it is run.
The OS X application will operate (and operate well) on the intel based Macs using Rosetta, which is included with these machines. AW 6.2.4 and AW 6.2.9 (IN Mac OS 9, the version numbers on the splash screen and in About AppleWorks for these two are 6.2.3 and 6.2.8) are the most stable and least error prone in OS X; update before or after the transfer if you have earlier versions.
Remember also that your AppleWorks license allows for only one copy to be installed on a computer. If you want to continue to use AppleWorks on the G3 iMac, you'll need to purchase a retail copy to install on the MacBook.

  • Need help with Aperture library duplicating all 'Albums' under 'Projects' library

Fairly new to Aperture but I've tried to search many times for solutions to this issue.
Scenario:  In the Library, I have 3 albums under the 'Albums' view at the bottom that I created.  They were never associated with a project so they were always kept down here.  This I believe is normal.  What is not normal is that this morning the same 3 albums started showing up in an Albums folder under one of my projects in the  'Project' view above it.  At first when I clicked on the project it showed the entire library (+20k photos) despite saying only 14 images were in this folder.  I fixed this by moving the 14 photos into a different project with a different name.  But the Albums folder remains.  It is a direct mirror of the albums below (same name, same photos), and when I delete an album from the 'Projects' view it deletes the same album below.  Same thing if I remove a picture from the album above, it does it below.  I have other albums under specific projects that do not show up under 'Albums' view in the Library.  Again I belive this is correct.
Making this more frustrating is that I can't just simply move or delete the duplicate Albums above and it is under a 'Project' that doesn't make any sense (e.g., under a Project named 'Travel' but all albums are related to 'Birthday Parties').  I tried creating new albums and then deleting the old ones, but then it actually removes the 'Album' section of my library and I don't know how to get it back as I'd still like to keep that functionality.
I have also repaired and rebuilt the database twice with no improvement.  One other point is that I believe this is officially an iPhoto library, but this version of Aperture and iPhoto supposedly allows for sharing without any issues.  I tried repairing via iPhoto as well, but no luck there.
Can anyone help or suggest solutions?  Thanks in advance.

The sections in the Library Inspector have hidden controls to Hided or Show them. The controls will appear, if you hover the mouse close to the right border of the Inspector panel. There you can toggle the visibility of the different sections on and off.
The whole Subsection (ALBUM in ALL CAPS) is gone, no remant left (so no Hide/Unhide button).  I can hide the PROJECTS, SHARED, RECENT, ETC, but ALBUMS is again gone.
Just to be better able to understand what is happening in your library:
At first when I clicked on the project it showed the entire library (+20k photos) despite saying only 14 images were in this folder.
This looks to me, like your albums were "Smart Albums" and not regular albums.   Regular albums don't change the contents, when you open them for browsing. Or reflect changes in other library items.
What do the icons of your "albums" look like? Is there a "gears" icon on it? Then your album is a smart album, and I'd try to update the smart settings for the album/
Nope.  No gears and I've never used a Smart Album.  They were all part of my old iPhoto library but that import was done 2-3 months ago and this issue just started today.  Right now the Album is just a folder under PROJECTS, with each individual Album beneath having icons that look like two photos stacked (i.e., normal albums).  Also, when I click on the main Album's folder it reads 'TopLevelAlbums' as the header on the top of the main section.  When I click on any other project, folder, or individual album it just reads the same name as the header....this was the first clue to me that something was wrong...besides the ALBUM folder having +20k pictures in it.
Aperture 3.5.1 .  I'm going to try creating the new library and see if it fixes it.  Thanks for the help.

  • Need help moving iTunes library. 32 bit to 63 bit

I am going to be moving my iTunes library. I have moved from a 32 bit OS to a 32 bit OS, and that is easy. Is there any difference when moving from a 32 bit to a 64 bit version of Windows, because I know that the install files are different.
    Any help would be appreciated.

Easiest way would be to download a utility that does it for you.
For a utility, you should try YamiPod (http://www.yamipod.com).

  • Need Help with iTunes Library in New OS

    Hi.
I just switched operating systems from Windows XP 32-bit on a spinning drive to Windows 7 64-bit on a solid-state drive.
I keep my iTunes data on an external drive with the path M:\data\iTunes. I have organize files on, but all the music is in the iTunes folder and not in a music sub-folder.
When I set the path in the new OS and add the library the files all show up, but about half of the art is missing and none of the music will play because the file isn't where iTunes expects it to be. Podcasts won't play, either, and audiobooks aren't showing up at all..
I'm thinking this might be happening because iTunes is expecting the music, podcasts, and books to be in the "proper" subfolders.
Ideas, anyone? How can I fix?

Select a track and press CTRL+I to Get Info. Look at the location given on the summary tab. It should begin with file://localhost. Where is the file really? In some cases it may be possible to move the folders around so that the media is where iTunes expects to find it.
Alternatively you could move things into a more typical layout as shown in this diagram on the right.
And then use my script FindTracks to fix the broken links. I'd suggest you move the iTunes folder to the root of the drive first. See also my post on making a split library portable for background.

  • HT4007 How can I get Aperture onto my new Macbook Pro 15" Retina that DOESN'T have a superdrive from my 5 year old Macbook Pro?  I still have the CD and serial number for Aperture. HELP! PLEASE!!

Like the thread topic says. I need help getting Aperture onto my new macbook pro that does not have a drive. I have no need for a drive after this to be honest just need my programs back on it. Thanks.

    Two options:
Make a disk image or a clone of the installer CD on your Mac that has a super drive - you can create a disk image using Disk Utility or use Carbon Copy Cloner (if you have it) to clone the DVD to a thumbsdrive. Then run the installer on your MBY from this copy.
Or download the Trial Installer and install from there:
    Download the Aperture 3.1 Trial.  http://appldnld.apple.com.edgesuite.net/content.info.apple.com/Aperture/061-8328 .20101020.AprE3/ApertureTrial3.1.dmg
Open the Aperture Trial disc image.
    Double-click the "Aperture Trial.mpkg" file.
Follow the onscreen instructions to install Aperture.
After the installation completes, choose Software Update from the Apple () menu.
Install the Aperture 3.4 update from the list of available updates.

I need help moving my Photoshop 7 from my old laptop to my new laptop which is running Windows 7 Enterprise. I’ve tried two routes unsuccessfully. I install the CD, it does not autoplay. I execute Autoplay.exe at the root directory, I am welcomed, I choose English, I accept the EULA, I get the Install/Explore choices window, with the Install button already selected, I click the Photoshop button, the CD spins, and nothing happens.  In the 2nd attempt I execute Setup.exe in the Photoshop directory, and nothing happens at all.  I’m never even offered the opportunity to enter my product code. What should I do?

There could is likely a compatibility problem between the old software and the newer operating system.

  • I need to install windows on my new Macbook pro for running my flight simulator software

    Hi!
I'm new to the Mac world and I need to install windows on my new Macbook pro for running my flight simulator software which only runs on windows. I would like to purchase and download the windows 8.1 rather than buying the CD.
When i go to the microsoft store and click windows 8.1 it says it is only for who has windows xp or vista...
can you tell me where and how can i purchase the full installation 8.1 for download?
i will keep the ISO file on my flash drive.
    Thanks!
    <Re-Titled By Host>

it's likely an upgrade you are looking for and not a full install of windows
    http://www.techrepublic.com/blog/windows-and-office/get-the-iso-you-need-to-crea te-your-own-windows-81-dvd/
if you get it as an iso file then you need to burn the iso file to a optical disc to install it

  • I need help in finding all the new fontsin iPad 2 using iOS  5

I need help in finding all the new fonts in ipad 2 using ios 5

You cannot change the email font. You can make it bold, italics and underline the type, but Helvetica is your only choice in the mail app.
In the notes app you have 3 choice Noteworthy, Helvetica and Marker Felt. The font can be changed in Settings>Notes>Font.
You can only use fonts that are built into the app that you are using at the time. You cannot pick and choose fonts from a list of all of the fonts that may be on the iPad but only from the list of fonts that the app allows.

  • Need help re-synching iPods with new computer and getting iTunes to...

Need help re-synching iPods with new computer and getting iTunes to recognize our iPods (it doesn't even recognize them when they're plugged in).
Hubby wiped my harddrive for me, so now I need to get everything back in proper places. I'm using windows XP and installed iTunes once again (I believe it's version 8). I also installed all of my iTunes songs. Now I need to know where to go from here. We have 3 iPods and I need to get them all synched once again. I know how to create different libraries for each of us, but I can't figure out how to get our songs back into our iTunes libraries. When I open iTunes and plug in an iPod, iTunes doesn't even show that an iPod is plugged in.
What do I do now to get each of our iPods synched with our own libraries?
    TIA
    Brandy

Thanks Zevoneer. The "Restart ipod service" worked and itunes is now recognizing my ipod! Hooray!
Okay, now how do I synch all of our ipods with our individual libraries (I don't want all of my kids' songs and vice versa)? We each have hundreds of songs on our ipods that we don't want to lose.
    Thanks again!
