Need help moving iPod library to new Mac Mini

The bad news is that my 4 year old Mirror Door Dual Processor PowerMacG4 finally gave up the ghost on me. The good news is that I then went out and bought a shinny new Mac Mini. Thinking it would be easy (what was I thinking) I then attached my iPod 2Gen 15GB to my new iTunes and it promptly wiped it clean for me (read as PANIC, as I have literally thousands of dollars invested in iTunes music). Not to be a snob, but I also own a iPod Mini (4 GB) that also had a copy of the library on it.
HOW do I copy the library to my new Mac?? I also have a Mac Powerbook 12" and it has a dated copy of the library on it...
Is there ANYTHING that is easy with these Mac's??

  • Need Help Moving Aperture Library to new MacBook

I am unable to move my Aperture 3.1.1 library from my old (2008) MacBook Pro to the new one which I just got. It is a managed library.
When I try to move the library over I get the following error message +"One or more items can’t be copied to “Pictures” because you don’t have permission to read them. Do you want to copy the items you are allowed to read?"+.
I have already Repaired Aperture Permissions and Database and Rebuilt the Database.
    Please help. Apple won't!

Niel you are a god! The files appear to be copying over after your suggestion. It will be awhile before I am sure everything is completely set as I am copying a 100GB Aperture library over firewire. However it appears this fix did the trick.
It has been a wasteful and stressful afternoon dealing with this.
    Thank You!

  • How best to restore iPhoto library to new Mac mini

So I have a brand new Mac Mini and my iPhoto library from my old iMac is backed both on Time Machine and via CCC on different external HDs. I want to transfer my iPhoto library(>200 GB) to the new Mini. Is there any reason to restore from Time Machine versus CCC? Are there advantages to using one versus the other?  I would like to keep my events, albums, etc. if possible. I made the CCC backup just to have an extra backup.
    Thanks in advance.
    Jim

You can use the one you prefer because it's the same. With Carbon Copy Cloner, you just need to go to the folder of the external disk with the library and copy the library to Pictures folder, and with Time Machine, you can use Time Machine UI to restore the iPhoto library

  • NEED HELP... Buying new MAC today.....

My powerbook is getting a bit old and slow...
and I need a new MAC...
I am just an average user.... I do nothing special... I just LOVE my MAC and
the ease of it..... I just use mostly for downloading movies/ music.... and e-mail and surfing... etc...
BUT... I live in Sweden so my options are limited and VERY expensive...
so I have decided I like the white Macbook...
but.... all I can find new is a 2.1 Ghr 1 gig ram... 120 HHD... for $1,241
or a used one that is 1 year old....
hardly used... 2.4 Ghz... 2 gigs ram... 120 HDD... for $931.
    What would you do????
I welcome all the info I can get....
    Thank you...
    Cheers from across the pond...
Just a Gurl from Seattle who lives in Sweden

Thank you both for your replies....
here in Sweden, I have been unable to find the refurbished MACs...
however here in Sweden we get an automatic 2 year government mandatory warranty (lucky aren't we) so the used mac that I have found will still have a year on it.... and he bought it last Christmas, so I can still get Apple care for it.... however Apple care here costs about $250... maybe even more....
I was so bummed to find that the white Macbook used to come with the 2.4 Ghz and now comes with the 2.1 Ghz...
and I really want speed.... that is the most important to me....
So I am wondering if I will notice the difference between the 2.4 and the 2.1 Ghz
    as far as speed goes????
and is the new one the 2.1 Ghz better than the 2.4 Ghz for some reason that I am not seeing????
Why did they go from 2.4 to 2.1 Ghz on this model????
is there anything I should know when buying a used MAC from somebody????
things I should ask or look for????
again... thank you for your help...

  • Moving photo library to new mac

I have a G4 iMac with 13,000 photos organized in iPhoto. My new iMac just arrived. Other than migration assistant, how can I move the photos, albums etc to the new iMac. I know about target disc mode, but what do I move and where do I put it. The old iMac is iPhoto 6, the new one has the new iPhoto.
    Thanks.
    Paul

    Paul:
Welcome to the Apple Discussions. To be sure all of the files in the library have the correct permissions after copying to the new Mac download and run BatChmod on the iPhoto Library folder with the settings shown here, putting your administrator login name, long or short, in the owner and group sections. You can either type in the path to the folder or just drag the folder into that field.
    Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've written an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • Moving boot disk to new Mac Mini?

I've an old circa-2007 or 2008 Mac Mini (Intel Core 2 Duo) running 64-bit OS X 10.8.4, and using an SSD as boot disk and an external Drobo array for most of my data.  I just ordered new quad-core Intel Core i7 Mac Mini to replace it.  When it arrives, I plan to ditch hard drive it comes with and move SSD from my old Mac Mini into it.  If I simply move boot SSD from my old Mini to new one, will it simply boot and work?  Or will I need to do some magic to get it to boot properly?  Or shold I start preparing for re-install and restore from backup workflow?

    Alex-- wrote:
Well, I have 10.8.4 already installed on the boot disk I want to move to newer mini, and late-2012 mini shipped with 10.8.1.  So I guess I should be fine on that part.
Not necessarily, the original build versions are different.
What worries me most is: When OS X is installed, will all the drivers and/or other hardware specific components be installed, or does the installer only install compnents needed by hardware at the time of installation?
I would setup the new Mini, move whatever into it's existing drive and then erase and copy all of that to the SSD before installing it into the Mini.
Replacing disk in mini (including late-2012 model) is non-trivial, but doable.  Why on earth Apple makes replacing disk so hard is beyond me; disks die way too often (i.e. disks are consumables), meaning users have real and legitimate need to be able to easilly replace them.  Yet something that is easy 5-minute task that requires only Philips #2 screwdriver with average PC tends to be an full evening project with Mac Mini.  Sigh.  At least it seems 2012 models doesn't require creative use of putty knife like my old Mini required.
The unibody models from 2010 on are easier to work on than the older ones.

I'm not trying to be a party pooper or anything here, but personally I wait until the warranty is up on my Mac's and Mac Mini's before doing anything more than upgrading RAM.

  • Need help installing Windows with Parallels on Mac Mini

I downloaded the trial version of Parallels to test it out. Everything is going fine until it asks me to restart my computer. I go through the basic setup at the beginning, it asks me to enter the Windows XP product key and then asks me to insert the disk. At that point I insert the disk and click "Finish" like it asks. Now I get this message saying to hold down the power button or press the restart button. The screen seems to freeze here since I can't move the mouse or anything.
So I hold down the power button for a few seconds, and eventually the Mac Mini shuts down. I press and hold the power button again to start it back up.
Now everything is restarted but the Windows is not installed. Where did I go wrong? It seems pretty straight forward, but I'm clearly doing something wrong.

Since Parallels is not an Apple product, you should post your question on the Parallels forums: http://forums.parallels.com
You're more likely to get the response you need there, rather than on an Apple forum.

  • Help moving iPod contents to new computer

I just got a MacBook and would like to transfer all the songs on my iPod that I previously used with my iBook G4. I went to this Web page (http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=300173), and I believe I followed all the instructions correctly, but none of my music transfered. What's going on? On the steps when I had to move folders with my entire library it said "this could take awhile if you have a lot of songs," but it always took less than a second--like nothing was being moved. Please help.

OK, I am using Senuti. The files are transferring.
But the ratings and play counts aren't showing up in iTunes, though they are in Senuti! What gives?!!
AND I the files aren't showing up in my library unless I manually click each file from finder. Why?!
Should I select a library when this is over by holding down option and opening iTunes? If so, what do I select as my library? The text file named "iTunes Library," or the folder "iTunes Music," which has all my music files?

  • Need help moving iTunes library. 32 bit to 63 bit

I am going to be moving my iTunes library. I have moved from a 32 bit OS to a 32 bit OS, and that is easy. Is there any difference when moving from a 32 bit to a 64 bit version of Windows, because I know that the install files are different.
    Any help would be appreciated.

Easiest way would be to download a utility that does it for you.
For a utility, you should try YamiPod (http://www.yamipod.com).

  • Need Help with iTunes Library in New OS

    Hi.
I just switched operating systems from Windows XP 32-bit on a spinning drive to Windows 7 64-bit on a solid-state drive.
I keep my iTunes data on an external drive with the path M:\data\iTunes. I have organize files on, but all the music is in the iTunes folder and not in a music sub-folder.
When I set the path in the new OS and add the library the files all show up, but about half of the art is missing and none of the music will play because the file isn't where iTunes expects it to be. Podcasts won't play, either, and audiobooks aren't showing up at all..
I'm thinking this might be happening because iTunes is expecting the music, podcasts, and books to be in the "proper" subfolders.
Ideas, anyone? How can I fix?

Select a track and press CTRL+I to Get Info. Look at the location given on the summary tab. It should begin with file://localhost. Where is the file really? In some cases it may be possible to move the folders around so that the media is where iTunes expects to find it.
Alternatively you could move things into a more typical layout as shown in this diagram on the right.
And then use my script FindTracks to fix the broken links. I'd suggest you move the iTunes folder to the root of the drive first. See also my post on making a split library portable for background.

  • Need Help Moving music stored on IPod to new computer.......

I Have a 60Gb VIdeo Pod, that I had linked to my old Powerbook G4, but the computer was taken and I bought a new Mac Mini, I want to know How can I take the Music from my IPod and link it to the new computer without overwriting the files on my IPod, It took me a three days to build my library from old CD's and I don't want to have to go through that again.

Note that I am assuming you're properly licensed to be able to run the app on your new computer.  I do not propose doing anything illegal.
With the ollld versions of Photoshop, like the one you have, you can try going through a process like this:
    1.  Copy the entire c:\Program Files\Adobe\Photoshop 7.0 folder to the new computer.
    2.  Try to run Photoshop on the new computer.
    3.  Note any "missing DLL" message.
    4.  Locate the DLL on the old computer (e.g., in C:\Windows\System32 or wherever), and copy it to the same place on the new computer.
    5.  Repeat steps 2 through 4 until no more "missing DLL" messages present themselves.
There may be other types of messages you'll see.  They're usually descriptive enough to be able to determine what it's looking for that it does not have.  If you get one you're unsure of how to handle, post it here.

  • Uploading Ipod music library to new Mac

I need to upload my song library from my Ipod nano to my new Imac 10.6. The original computer with all the songs is no longer accessable. Is it possible to upload all songs from my Ipod to my new Mac directly from the nano?

    Hello there,
    And welcome to Apple Discussions!
There are several third party applications available to assist you with this task. Just do a simple Google search for "copy music from iPod to mac" and you should receive a plethora of sites that can help you. Such as this one.

Otherwise, you can opt to copy them directly off your iPod to your Mac, using the steps outlined in this article.

It keeps telling me that they are not authorized to play on the new mac, and then I go to authorize the computer (which was already done) and it tells me that 'this computer is already authorized' I am at a loss right now, this is about $50 down the drain, and it wont even let me just watch them on the computer because it is saying "not authorized" Can someone please help me? I don't get why some of the movies and stuff work and the others don't...
