Need Help: old comp. crashed, how do I keep what I have?

Its hard for me to say. But I'll give it a shot. I synced my iphone with my itunes on an old computer. That old computer crashed suddenly. Now, I have a new computer and I'm putting together a new library. So this is my dilemma, I bought several ringtones, music, etc. and wish to add it to my new library. I dont want to lose what Ive already bought. But, if I choose to sync, itunes tells me that they will completely wipe out my iphone and add what my new library has. How do I keep everything? What can I do?

iTunes includes an option to transfer content that was purchased from the iTunes Store from an iPod or iPhone.
Without syncing, at the iTunes menu bar go to File and select Transfer Purchases From - the name of your iPhone. This is for content that is available on your iPhone that was purchased from the iTunes Store only.
Other than that is one of the reasons why maintaining a backup of all your important data including your iTunes library stored on an external drive or some other media used for backup purposes only is so important.

    Thanks for your reply,
I have both the silver discs specific to my iMac and Mac Pro models that you receive with your Mac, and a general copy of Snow Leopard that you buy from the store.
I used the silver disc that is specific for my iMac to install the drivers, and Boot Camp 3.0 on my iMac. But with the Mac Pro, the software is older and only has Boot Camp 2.0, thus I'm wondering if I can simply use the software on the general copy of Snow Leopard I own, or does the silver disc contain specific drivers for my Mac Pro that I need?
I'm under perhaps the wrong impression that the silver discs that you get with your Mac purchase contain drivers for your specific Mac model which you can't get from the general Snow Leopard disc.
    Thanks.

An external bay is something like this: External 2.5 SATA to USB Hard Drive Caddy Case
A small Philips driver is usually all you need to access the hard drive in the leptop. You (or a technically adept friend) remove the drive from the old laptop, put it in the bay, hook it up to your new computer and read what can be recovered from it. Your iTunes library would typically be in X:\Users\<User>\Music\iTunes where X: is the letter assigned to the drive.
There's a chance the drive won't work at all, but often it will work for reading data even when you can no longer get it to run your operating system. Seems like a small investment to potentially recover all your lost data, not just iTunes.
If the drive won't work, then the link I posted earlier explains how you can recover all the media and data from your existing device into a new iTunes library. Once you dont this you can restore the backup of the old device to the new one.

You should be able to copy iTunes purchases to your computer's iTunes via File > Transfer Purchases. For music that you've bought from other sources or copied from your own CDs then have you not got a backup of them on, for example, an external drive that you can copy onto the computer ? If not then you will need to find a third-party program to copy them off - this post mentions some that were around a couple of years ago, whether they still exist and work I don't know.

old machine crashed. how to deregister adobe acrobat on old machine?

You can't if you don't have physical access to it. Just install it on the new machine and if you have problems with activation call the number for your country and explain the situation to them. They should be able to help you out with it.

For MS Visio (any version) only the appropriate version of Acrobat *PRO* provides PDFMaker for Visio.
For Visio 2013 specifically you must have Acrobat XI Pro (updated to at least 11.0.1).

  • HT1338 Need help locating where and how to update Mac OS-X 10.6.5 to the latest Mountain Lion Software...thanx John

I need help locating where and how to update Mac OS-X to Mountain Lion.....Thanx....Jay

First update your 10.6 version to 10.6.8 from the software update under the Apple Menu.
This will add direct access to the Mac App store via a new application.
Now launch the App Store from your Applications folder - Its the new icon a letter A formed from a ruler pencil and pen on a blue circle !
Once launched you need to add your iTunes account details or create an account add payment details etc...
Sign in purchase download and follow install processes to upgrade to 10.8 Mountain Lion.
OH and to be safe BEFORE you install backup your current system to an external drive !

I wouldn't take the original post too seriously - I may of course be naive but it sounds like it could be a troll to me!

If you have a rescue email address (which is not the same thing as an alternate email address) on your account then you can use that to reset them : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT6170
If you don't have a rescue email address (you won't be able to add one until you can answer your questions) then you will have to contact Support in your country to get the questions reset.
Contacting Apple about account security : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5699
If your country isn't on that page then try this form and explain and see what they reply with : https://ssl.apple.com/emea/support/itunes/contact.html
When they've been reset (and if you don't already have a rescue email address) you can then use the steps on this page to add a rescue email address for potential future use : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5620
Or, if it's available in your country, you could change to 2-step verification : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5570
