Need help on recovery discs

I have a Pavilion dv6-1360us and recently had to install a new hdd due to the old one failing. i ordered the recovery disc from hp and went to install it. when it asked for the second disc it wouldnt load. this is for windows 7 64bit. Now all it does when i turn it on is show the windpows is loading files screen. then the starting windows screen. from there it shows a grey screen and u can hear the cdrom drive reading the disc but it just goes back to the begin with the windows loading files screen. Any information would be awesome. thanks!

Can you read the 25 character Microsoft Windows 7 license key attached to bottom of laptop? If so you can download Windows 7 ISO files to burn to a DVD for the version of windows that came installed on your PC, and listed on the Microsoft COA sticker.
You can use the Microsoft .iso to USB/DVD tool to create a bootable DVD or USB (requires a blank DVD or USB flash
Use the 25 character product key on the PC to activate the installation.
Then go to your support and driver page to install the drivers you need.
Link to the W7 ISO file downloads is below.

• I need a new recovery disc for my MacBook help ASAP!!!

I need a new recovery disc for my MacBook so I can format and re-install the default operating system. I have lost the original recovery disc that came with my MacBook years ago. Can anybody tell me how and where I can order one from?
Also, I do have the original recorvery disc that came with my MacBook Pro, could I not just use this or would it not be compatible?
Help ASAP please...
Thank you!

For a fee, you could likely order a replacement install-restore DVD for your MacBook. To get the correct disc(s) and match the hardware to the system, you need to know and have the serial number of the product handy, and be able to answer some basic questions; and have a form of payment, such as credit card.
Call the Apple Store online (main US number, 1-800-MY-APPLE) or the main Apple Support number for US, 1-800-275-2273.
Or if you're in another country, you could try calling a Local in-country support number and ask, since they may have to redirect your call to another associate. See link below for Support phone numbers.
An operating systems specialist or other qualified person will be able to try & help obtain the correct disc or disc set; if the computer original gray-label set is no longer available, they may be able to check their extensive database against your product serial number to see if they may have another full install disc that can work.
This other option, if it happens, based on your MacBook serial number and build model identifier, could be slightly newer than the OS X version shipped with the MacBook, and not be gray-labeled.
A replacement install disc in retail version would not include any original MacBook applications, while a gray-label disc set should have most of them as part of a multiple DVD set, if available.

• Do I Need a New Recovery Disc

Just upgraded to Win7. Do I need a new Recovery Disc?

Hi,
All you need are the original Recovery Discs and the Upgrade Disc - if you ever have to reinstall, use the Recovery Discs to install the original operating system and then use the Upgrade Disc to get back to Windows 7.

• HELP!!!!!! Need to create recovery disc for hdx laptop in Vista

I have been told by HP that I can create a recovery disc right from my computer. Really ...... please someone tell me where and how. Right now there is nothing wrong with my PC but I have been stupid and forgot to create it previously.
As an added note, so I can vent, my service pak ran out last month, which HP did not remind me of with an email like they alwasy do, and the guy I spoke to was no help with that. He said there was nothing I could purchase now. Also, I was told by more than one person that I had lifetime chat support online ...... well that's a lie too I found out. So, they will not help me at all now!!!!!!!!! The guy also told me the reason I did not probably get an email was becasue the support for this laptop ended in August and it will become obsolete this coming August. That is probably the reason he said. Wow why did I buy a HP computer and not a Dell. When I had my Dell I called like more than 10 years after buying the computer and received phone based technical help on it still and no I did not have an extended warranty at the time. They gave lifetime technical assistant via phone. Looks like I may have to switch back. Sorry HP but my experience has been less than good.

This document should help with the how to part of making the recovery disks.
I have raised your post to the appropriate team for review. Someone should contact you via private message within two days.

• Re: Need Win 7 Recovery Disc for my Satellite Pro L750

Hi all,
Could someone tell me where to download or get a copy of the OEM Win 7 Recovery disc for my Satellite Pro L750? The laptop has a new HDD without a working recovery partition and I don't the recovery CD.
Help Please.

Yes of course you should make backup disks but this was my first personal laptop (unbelievable, right ? Never needed one before) and I wasn't aware i couldn't just make a recovery disk from any pc like I used to do for my desktop. The hdd is supposed to last for what, 5,000 hours ?
I would be lucky to have had more than 1,000 hours on it. And no games play either; it had an easy life.
As per Microsoft Forums I did a clean install of Windows 7 using a supposedly OEM setting download from Digital River (OEM in the 'channel' setting in the ei.efg file) but good old Toshiba must do something else in the hardware as slmgr /dli still states it's a 'retail' version so even though Microsoft would have given me a new product key (as to which i am entitled as i have purchased a licence when i bought the laptop), because the installation id states retail based, my genuine licence key number from the bottom of the laptop does not register as genuine when they check.
I tried my desktop pc oem windows 7 installation disk that I got with the pc (now there's a whacky idea, providing a disk with the purchase...) and no luck there either. The laptop was still locked to its own licence key and retail version. I'm guessing even if i bought a new retail windows copy, it still wouldn't work !
I still think $66 is far too much to pay to get the disks. I've already paid for the windows licence, But what choice has toshiba left me, other than to pay them their blood money.
I may be a slow learner, but I do learn. I will never buy a Toshiba laptop, or other Toshiba product again. Sure, other companies will have the same licensing setup, but I'm not angry at them !

• In Need of a recovery disc

I have a HP Pavilion dv7 Notebook PC and a few weeks ago my screen was shattered but was covered under warranty. When my computer was sent into HP to get fixed from Best Buy they replaced my hard drive without telling me. When I was asked to pick up my computer up from Best Buy when it was finished they asked me to bring along my recovery disc which I didn't have so they ended up putting their generic windows stuff on my computer. Now I don't have any of if the applications that came with the computer. Is there anyway to get a new recovery disc for my computer? The computer that I bought was amazing and worth every penny but now that it doesnt have any of the original software, it sucks.

Hi,
Yes..absolutely..you can get them..After you use it it'll becomes like the first day when you bought the notebook from HP..
You can either order it online or just call Tech Support and inform that Best Buy replaced your Hard Drive and they'll send you the disks..
The link below will guide you to order them online:
HP Notebook PCs - Order Recovery Discs for Windows 7, Vista, or XP
Note:
If you have HP Support Assistant installed on the computer(The Blue Question Mark) then open it ==> Complete all pending Updates & Tuneups==> Restart and Check. It may solve your problem

• Need Win 7 recovery discs for new hard drive

I am not sure which Windows 7 Operating system my laptop had, but I need the recovery discs to put Windows 7 back on my HP dv6-6167cl notebook.
My original issue was that my notebook was unable to restore or anything on its own. After calling HP support and performing a guided diagnostics test, it was determined that my hard drive was bad. I purchased a new hard drive and replaced it, but need to get Windows 7 back on it.
Thanks!

Hi,
Your notebook originally shipped with Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit - you can order a replacement set of Recovery Media from the link on your Product Page below.

• Need help with recovery/reinstall of OS

Hi,
I need some assistance repairing my niece's laptop. She has a Toshiba Satellite A305 S6872. She is not tech savvy and has been using it since christmas without any antivirus/spyware protection. It was a huge mess. I was able to remove all the virus & spyware from the computer but it was so bad that the OS was affected and will not function correctly. I have backed up all her data and now it needs to be recovered to factory settings. She never created the recovery disks and now the recovery disk creater won't work... it gets an error about the optical drive in use or not installed and the application won't open. I also tried to boot into the recovery console by pressing 0 at boot but was unsuccessful, it seems like the option is not there or it won't work. I could really use some help here. She is in town for the summer so I only have about 2 weeks to fix it. I know it won't take that long to fix but I don't think ordering a recovery disk is an option unless they can be downloaded. Please help me restore this computer.

I also tried to boot into the recovery console by pressing 0 at boot but was unsuccessful
Since that option is not available, I would bite the bullet and order the discs.
If you like, you can try running sfc /scannow. For some reason, Microsoft has withdrawn the article for Vista. It's virtually the same as for Windows XP.
Description of Windows XP and Windows Server 2003 System File Checker (Sfc.exe)
But it's my experience that once a hard drive is really infested with bad guys, it cannot be repaired.

i got my creative zen for xmas and it was working fine until i went to turn it off today and it wouldnt turn off and i have no idea how to reset it and i dont have the charger so how do i get it to work again?
Which Zen? If it's a Zen Micro you need to gently remove the battery for a moment and then replace it and the restart your Zen Micro while holding the switch to ON.
It will go into Recovery Mode.
Select Disk Cleanup, let it finish [might take a minute or 2] and then select Reboot.
Please do not select Replace Firmware unless told to by Creative Support!
It's better to keep the Zen Micro's charge 'topped up' after your initial charging. Running it flat isn't good for the battery and it can sometimes lead to the Zen freezing.Message Edited by skb on 0-02-2006 09:33 PM

• Malware on New Helix (out of the box) / Need Help Accessing Recovery Partition

Hi,
I'm working on a problem for my folks. My dad got my mom a brand spanking new Helix (not exactly a cheap laptop).
It came with two pieces of malware:
1. Windows 8
2. AstroMenda
Since I can't do anything about #1 and #2 is a serious PITA and the machine is new out of the box (really), I thought I'd just restore the machine from the recovery partition.
However, I cannot seem to get the machine to boot to recovery mode.
Enter doesn't seem to do anything (that is the only keystroke suggested by the splash screen).
F12 gets me a boot menu but I don't see any recovery options. Selecting the Windows Boot Manager or the Hard Drive itself results in Windows 8 booting.
F1 gets me the BIOS. Though I imagine I might be able to set the recovery partition (which #?) to the #1 boot option, I absolutely should not have to do that.
Shift doesn't do anything (suggested elsewhere on these forums).
F2 doesn't do anything.
F11 doesn't do anything.
Esc doesn't do anything.
My older lenovo T61p had the ThinkVantage. I always thought that was pretty goofy but now I'm wishing I had a ThinkVantage.
BTW, Lenovo Support was USELESS. They told me to return the machine and transferred me to returns but since my folks were on vacation when it arrived, we are outside the 30 day window, returns wouldn't do an exchange. They opened a case with Customer Advocacy (never heard of that) but told me I wouldn't hear anything for 3-5 business days and there is no number, website, or email you can call to check your "Customer Advocacy" claim. That sounds a lot like GFY.

Hello.
Open up the Charms Bar - Settings - Click the Power Icon - Hold either Shift button down and press Restart. This will open up the Advanced Startup menu.
Cheers!
