Need help on USB hub for mac air 13 inch (2 external hardisk and Iphone)

Hello everyone, I am a new macbook air user, and currently using 2 external hardisk of 1TB and 2TB. I am looking for usb hub that support both of my external hardisk, ethernet and iphone too. The problem is, limited usb hub for mac air and bad review on balkin product, any advice for me?
One more thing, I just moved from window to mac for the first time, and bought Western Digital 2TB external hardisk, the problem is, I can't save any video/audio file that I downloaded from internet in macbook to be transfer/move to this WD 2TB external hardisk, except for back up and time machine. It refuse to except any file that I try to move in to the external hardisk Can anyone help me? compactibility problem?

First, I have not found any of my hubs to have an issue with my MBA. Just make sure that if any peripherals you attached to the hub are adequately powered. Either by having the hub independently powered, or the devices having their own power supply.
The drive problem you have may be due to the file formatting. If this drive is formatted NTFS, then in many cases you can write to it using a network protocol, but OS X can't write to it if attached directly to the computer, e.g. USB, SATA, FireWire. You will neeed to either format the drive as a HFS+ drive, or use software that enables OS X to write directly to t a NTFS formatted drive, such as NTFS-3G. DISCLAIMER: As the information you provide for your circumstances is limited, this is but one suggestion amongst many, that explain your situation.

  • USB Hub for Mac book air

I recently got a mac book air. And the problem i have is with the USB port. Since there is only one USB port i tried using a 4-port USB hub. Which is working fine on any other Microsoft laptop. ut wen i tried to use it with my mac air it doesnt seem to be working. The funny thing is my mouse is working fine if i connect it through this hub. but my external hard drives are not registering through the hub, but they work if i direct plug it into the port of the mac air. Please help. As i really need the hub for my mac air.

I have two USB hubs without a separate power supply. One is older (USB 1.1) and will drive an external hard drive, the newer hub (2.0) is more compact and will not support an external hard disk drive. I cannot find any listing of the power properties of the hubs themselves, or other hubs for sale, and so do not know which might work better. I suspect a non-powered hub is not ideal for an external hard disk drive.
My solution is to buy a small bluetooth mouse and forget about using a USB hub for a mouse and instead use the port mostly for a USB flash drive.

  • WRVS4400N v2: Need help setting up VPN for Mac

I'm having problems trying to establish a IP Sec tunnel from the office to home. All of our machines are Macs so I have been using the directions described in "How to create an IP Sec tunnel for MAC Clients, A QVPN alternative" but I still can't get it to work. My setup is as follows:
The office is connected to the outside world through a MODEM (Sagemcom 2864 Connection Hub). This MODEM is also a wireless router. It's DHCP server provides addresses 192.168.2.x.
The WRVS4400N's WAN port is connected to one of the LAN ports on the MODEM. It's IP address from the MODEM is 192.168.2.x. The WRVS4400N provides addresses 192.168.21.x to devices connected to it.
We have a DynDNS account and are using the DDNS client on the WRVS4400N router to connect to it.
At home, we have a DIR-655 router with IP Sec Passthru enabled. The router provides IP addresses 192.168.1.x for all devices connected to it. I am fairly sure there are no issues with the router setup at home since I am able to VPN into the office of my full-time job without any problems.
I have tried just about everything I can think of but have not been able to get this to work. Can someone please help with setting up the Local and Remote Group Settings on the WRVS4400N and the IP address settings in IP Securitas?
    TIA

    Hi,
If you need to establish a client vpn connection with the WRVS4400N, first you need to insure that the modem infront support IPSec Passthrough and that UDP ports 500 and 4500 are forwarded to the WAN IP of WRVS4400N.
On WRVS4400N you have to configure IPSec VPN tunnel, and when configuring IPSecuritas insure that you have the same encryption as on the router.
It could help if you enable the Local logs and see the error message.
You can provide the log output and print screens of the IPSec configuration, also screenshot of configuration of IPsecuritas

  • Need Help with mysql admin for Mac

    Hello all.
I am new to cold fusion and databases all together. Infact I
am doing an online tutorial to get me started, my problem is the
tutorial really just scratches the surface for the mac side and in
some cases sorta explains how to do but no visual help and I am
    very visual.
I am searching for software that is really idiot proof to
start my knowledge with then make the transition when I learn more
and more to hard coding. The tutorial suggests Navicat for Mysql
admin and it is nice but he is setting up basic databases in Access
which looks really easy and I am trying to follow along with
navicat but I am just not getting it specifically when it comes to
setting up relationships between tables. Can I use a software like
FileMaker Pro and just convert to mysql or is their other software
that makes it a little more easy to understand how to set up
    relationships like access does.
I am totally new to this stuff and I am looking for the
easiest product to use. Thanks again for your help and time.
    Chris

As for the database part, before you write your first query,
you should become grounded in the concepts of data modeling. Then
find a good source (book, books-on-line, etc. ) for the particular
"flavor" of SQL used by your database of choice, then start writing
your queries. Data model first (entities, relationships,
    attributes), then SQL.
Couple of fairly good online tutorials for data modeling.

Master this and you will save yourself many hours of grief,

  • Need help with Microsoft Office for Mac upgrade question.

My MacBook died, great computer after six years! I just purchased my new MacBook Pro last night. I noticed that the MacBook Pro/OS X Lion does not support PPC software as I was trying to install MS Office 2004, which I have the 2008 upgrade for. Since the 2008 is just the upgrade it wants a previous version already installed and I cannot install 2004 MS Office, does this mean that I have to start over and just buy MS Office 2011?

I'm afraid so. Too bad you didn't apply the 2008 upgrade while your old MacBook was working. Then you could have migrated 2008 to the new machine from the MacBook's hard drive even if the rest of the MacBook was dead.

  • Need help with a script for moving bulk users to another OU and removing/assigning groups

I've never used PowerShell before and have been asked to track down a script that can move bulk users from one OU to another, and remove and assign new group membership. I've been googling it for about 30 minutes and haven't really gotten anywhere. If
somebody can point me in the right direction or give some tips I'd greatly appreciate it. I'm sure this kind of task has been done by several people in similar environments I just haven't been able to find those people/examples.

Here's what I've got so far...
    Moving to new OU
    CSV constructed like below...
    DN
                                                                                                                                                    TargetOU
    “CN=John R, OU=BB,OU=ES,OU=Students,OU=OSD,DC=usd233,=DC=local”
                          "OU=PRT,OU=MS,OU=Students,OU=OSD,DC=usd233,DC=local"
    Import-Module activedirectory
    $UserList = Import-Csv "c:\yourCSVhere.csv"
    foreach ($User in $UserList) {
    $User.DN
    $User.TargetOU
    Move-ADObject -Identity $User.DN -TargetPath $User.TargetOU
Would this work? I also need to remove the user from two groups and add them to two different groups as well. Would I need to use the addUsertoGroups and removeUserfromGroups commands?

I need a wireless usb adaptor for a Power Mac G4... any suggestions? (needs to be compatible)

With Mac OS X 10.3 or higher, a number of USB Wi-Fi adapters would be possible to use. However, for an earlier operating system, a wireless Ethernet bridge (such as the examples below) can be a better (and sometimes the only) option. A wireless Ethernet bridge does not normally require special drivers, and can thus be used with almost any Ethernet-equipped computer.

  • Need to free up space on mac air...

I have Mac Air, OX 10.8.5 and it says i only have 11 gb remaining in storage and occasionally gives me warnings..
This is what i have on my drive...so what's the problem...what is using all this space and how do I rectify it? I have read many, many posting and tired many things, and i just can figure out what to do. Please help!!!   thanks,  Kelly

Yeah,   way too many pics and music on your Air.     Youre using your AIR as a storage device, .......you need to get an external USB HD for your Air (see below)
Any Macbook or desktop should be idealized as a working platform computer system, containing all your applications, documents, and weekly-use necessary files; and all media files such as ‘big-data’ (music/PDF collections/video/pictures), unless directly needed in the near future, should be kept off the computer and on external storage USB or likewise bare hard drives.
In the case of a Macbook Air  ‘limited’ storage on the SSD, this distinction becomes more important in that in an ever rapidly increasing file-size world, you keep vital large media files, pics, video, PDF collections, music off your SSD and archived on external storage, for sake of the necessary room for your system to have free space to operate, store future applications and general workspace.  You should never be put in the position of considering “deleting things” on your macbook SSD in order to ‘make space’.
Professionals who create and import very large amounts of data have almost no change in the available space on their computers internal HD because they are constantly archiving data to external  HD.
Or in the case of the consumer this means you keep folders for large imported or created data and you ritually offload and archive this data for safekeeping, not only to safeguard the data in case your macbook has a HD crash, or gets stolen, but importantly in keeping the ‘breathing room’ open for your computer to operate, expand, create files, add applications, for your APPS to create temp files, and for general operation.
Or "keep your work ON your computer and your ENTERTAINMENT (music, vids pics)  OFF the computer"

  • What is the price of new screen for mac air 11'', coz mine is broken

what is the price of new screen for mac air 11'' in singapore, coz mine is broken, the lcd crashd, whatever

You may have to check local official authorized Apple service providers for a price or estimate on the cost of repair parts and labor; there may be other companies than those officially listed in the locator page here http://www.apple.com/sg/service/ in the Singapore area, that can do the job. Be wary of those not Authorized or Certified, since these may not use the correct parts or may not be properly trained in the repair procedure.
In the case of a computer still under offiical original or extended Apple warranty, when accidental damages cause need for a repair, be sure to get the damage fixed in an authorized repair facility so as to keep the remainder of the offiical warranty in effect. Unofficial repairs by unqualified persons can void the remainder of a factory warranty; while the damage may not be covered at all, the rest of the computer could retain coverage if it is repaired correctly using Apple trained and authorized service personnel and original equipment parts.
So, be sure if you find a shop that can do a repair, that it won't make matters worse by performing inexact or  sub-par service; and if the computer no longer has an official warranty on the remainder of the unit (outside of the accidental damages not covered anyway) you may be able to find a good display, new or used, and have another service company replace the one in your MB/Air. Depending on what build year-model MB/Air 11" you have, the parts may vary; so be sure to research whoever can do this job, so it may be done correctly.
There are independent authorized Apple repair agents with certified technicians who use correct parts, so maybe you can find one in your region; at least to initially research the costs involved in restoring the MB/Air.
Not sure which model you have, but for something out of warranty or damaged in a way to no longer be covered, you may see what may be involved in doing a repair or parts swap, yourself; the following may be helpful in restoring this model.Or give you an idea, should it be too technical for a DIY fix.

    However that works out...
    Good luck & happy computing!

  • Need to rebuild Outlook 2011 for mac identity for exporting data file.

I was exporting outlook for mac data file (to import it into apple mail), and suddenly Outlook email client crashed and when I tried again it said that I need to rebuild the Outlook for mac database using rebuild utility. I took help from some professional technicians but it was a dead end. They said that my outlook for mac database was corrupt and they could not help me any further. I had years of emails in outlook for mac that I needed to move to apple mail as I was fed up of these frequently occuring outlook 2011 errors. Please if anyone could help me in this case then it will be very helpful.
    Thanks

Outlook for mac stores archives its data in .olm format and it originally stores its mails in .OLK format. If everything has failed then you can seek help of a tool that can recover these .olk14 messages. One tool I know that is capable of doing so is http://www.outlookmacdatabaserecovery.com/.
Look for the trial version first and see of it works and recovers you emails.

  • Universal power pack for Mac air, Mac pro and ipad

Have an 10 hour flight comming up    Would like to purchase universal power pack for Mac air Mac pro and ipad

I do not take Intergrative Nutrition, but I have some advice for choosing your device.  Your choice of device should be based upon what you will use your device for currently and in the future.
If you are just using your device to use the internet and do light activities (smal typing, etc.) then the MacBook Air is a better choice.  You should note that the Air has no Superdrive(for your DVD's CD's etc.) so you will have to put out more money to get one.  It can also be slow because of the Flash Memory.
If you are going to be doing more "heavy" computing (photo editing, sound editing, lots of multitasking, large file sizes etc) then I would suggest getting the MacBook Pro.
If you prefer tablets, or tablet style reading then the iPad will be better for you.  You should keep in mind that ther are restrictions on the files that you can view or work with on the iPad.
Overall, I prefer the MacBook Pro because of its versatility, durability and capabilities to do multiple file types.  If you have any more questions, feel free to drop by your local Apple Store or Apple Authorize Retailer.  They will be happy to help you!
