Need help one USB Port on MacBook Pro not working
Its been a weak now and im getting tired of my MacBook pro USB not reading anything.. It wont read/connect usb drives, IPods/IPhones/IPads, and Android phones. I have tried the PRAM and SMC resets and nothing has worked i even left my Macbook pro off for a whole day. ITS ONLY ONE PORT NOT WORKING, i took it to bestbuy because its closest to me but geek squad just did what i explained above and told me get a USB hub and NO! i want to fix this issue... Anyone has had this happen can you let me know if its because the USB port is no longer working or a software issue... Also i keep getting this notification telling me USB devices disabled draining to much power but i have nothing connected!!
ps- my MacBook Pro is getting very hot fast and it happens when im not even using it, i get home and it very hot could there be another hardware failure i dont leave applications open when i sleep it.
It sounds like you might have a hardware problem. Your best bet is to go to the Genius Bar. The evaluation is free, and they'll fix it if you're under Applecare. Back up your stuff first though.

Just one USB port on MacBook Pro 15"
Hi, I just got a MacBook Pro 15" 2.33GHz. I may be silly but I find it has only one USB port! This is killing me because I need at least two USB port to connect my mouse and iPhone. Do I missed something?
Thanks,
ffBoth USB ports are on the left side, right next to each other.
Maybe you have too many things plunged in and you can't see it or something is covering it up. Reminds me of this:

Usb port on MacBook Pro stopped working
A usb port has stopped working. How to repair.
I would do another SMC reset. If nothing changes you should take the computer in to an Apple store for a free diagnostic. You should make an appointment.

I am trying to use an external 3g modem made by Huawei model e173s-6 and when I do connect it on my usb port the macbook pro just do not recognize it. I own a 2012 model with mountain lion 10.8.2 . What should I do ?
I still don't know what happened to my test Aperture Library after the update to 3.4...Not only were my previews lost, but so were the original images! Needless to say, I haven't bothered to update the main library on the Mac Pro because I don't want to deal with this level of uncertainty (even with backups in place).

I have plugged a portable battery to the USB and my macbook pro stopped working after that, right before it shut down there was a message on the screen that said something like " USB device is withdrawing so much power, please disconnect and connect again?
if the device I connected have caused this, shouldn't the macbook itself have some type of protection that should prevent this from happening.
because when I took it to an apple certified maintenance shop, the guy said that now it could only run while connected to the power. it won't run on batteries. and that I have to change the motherboard.
can I just replace the damaged part only, would apple consider this as a design issue and they could pay for it, or should I just buy a new motherboard for 800$.
Help.BB1B2,
The problem is in finding a tech shop that will/can do board level repairs on Macs. They are few. And I certainly wouldn't spend $800 on a new logic board - I would replace the computer if I had to pay that much!
You could call around to a few repair shops and see if they feel competent to isolate the problem and do a board level repair - but I'm afraid, in the end, that your search will be futile.
Sorry,

Why does the internet on my new macbook pro not work when my old macbook's does?
Why does the internet on my new macbook pro not work when my old macbook's does? I'll have to turn the wifi off and back on multiple times to get the internet to continue to work on my Macbook Pro (running mountain lion but did it on lion also) when it runs fine on my old white Macbook (running lion). Is there something I can do to fix it or do I just have to deal with it?
Here is your fix .. I have uploaded my properly calibrated profile get it here :
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=YAJL6A9X
And it should go to your user folder/Library/ColorSync/Profiles
if you have one already you can rename either one ..
and then go to system preferences - displays - color to select the profile .
you will get rid of the blue tint while keeping correct color and gamma
This is for the newer 2010 MBP's altho if same display was used might also give good results in the previous models as well . . -
Macbook pro not working without battery
my macbook pro not working if i remove the battery
& if the battery is empty my macbook pro not working before chargingTry an SMC reset:
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1411
You should not run on AC with the battery removed. The MBP should work that way, but the OS throttles back the CPU so running like that is not recommended. -
One of the USB ports on MacBook Pro does not work.
Hi,
I purchased a MacBook Pro in Jan '11. Both the USB ports on the laptop were working fine. Recently, I have noticed, any external device connected to the USB port, towards the battery side does not recognize the connection.
Any solutions ?. Is this defect covered under warranty ?.
Regards
Anil MadanAnil,
Try resetting the SMC.
SMC RESET
Shut down the computer.
Plug in the MagSafe power adapter to a power source, connecting it to the Mac if its not already connected.
On the built-in keyboard, press the (left side) Shift-Control-Option keys and the power button at the same time.
Release all the keys and the power button at the same time.
Press the power button to turn on the computer. -
Why MY ipad don't charge on usb port, on Macbook pro
why MY ipad don't charge on usb port, on Macbook pro
Because the port you're using just isn't putting out enough juice. The Power Adapter which came with your iPad puts out 2A of charging current, while the most powerful USB port on any computer is going to be putting out 500mA at most (and many brands, especially PC laptops, put out considierably less).
That's why your User's Guide recommends you use the Power Adapter. -
USB ports and SD reader not working
For a few days my usb ports and SD reader stop working, I tried, Doing a SMC Reset and a PRAM reset I also reinstall my operating system but non of then have worked any advice would be greatly appreciated.
iMac 21.5-inch, Mid 2011(OX 10.8.5).
I call the repair shop and they told me it would coast $2000 to get it fix, they told me that my mother board was burn, so I send them an email telling them if my mother board was burn wouldnt be able to use my imac. I could get a new one for that price. -
OK folks this is an old problem that was posted on the old TX/TM board:
http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/TX-TM-Series-Notebooks-Reply/tx2000-usb-ports-digitizer-webcam-all-not-...
Several of us have had these ports/hardware fail.
****IT IS NOT A BLACK SCREEN FAILURE******
In my case, the motherboard has very low hours after replacement, full system reinstall, all drivers up to date. If you take the time to read all three pages, you will see that many of us have tried everything that anyone suggested. Most of us still believe that this is a software issue as opposed to a hardware issue.
Not much hope for a soulution, but thought I would try this board since the TX/TM board is now reply only and probably has a very low visit rate.
JimI also am not able to use the pen and touch features after doing a recovery manager to factory spec, everything else is good but like the others when trying to open Tablet Properties it gives the message a supported tablet was not found on the system, also after updating the digitizer from hp the version does not change it's still 6.1.6002.18005 when it's supposed to be 5.05-5_HP5 Rev.A.
I've unblocked the download in properties ran it as administrator, uninstalled the old driver, my USB works my Quick launch buttons work, the screen rotates, the bios is updated. ran HP Update it finds two updates -a HP update software utility and a critical update HP Photosmart and then nothing else when there are many many more at the software and driver page for the TX2000
Is HP being silent due to the class action lawsuit? Was that a perk that hp got for settling, that they no longer have to address any issue with this Tx2000 series?
As so many have wrote before...... NEVER AGAIN HP! -

I always suggest going to monoprice.com for cheap priced and good quality cables, adapters, aother videio/audio realated hardware.years.
Example:
Mini DisplayPort | Thunderbolt® to HDMI® Adapter w/ Audio Support
You can search for the cable of desired length there as well.
Been using monoprice for years. Excellent source for this kind of stuff. -
USB Ports on Macbook Pro (Late 2011) no longer working...
Hey all,
I know there are numurous posts on this but none have seemed to help me.
Today both of my USB ports have stopped working. Two months ago the one next to the thunderbolt port would go in and out and today both of them just don't work at all except to supply power. I can still charge my phone with them but thats it, nothing is recognized when I plug it in.
I've tried the PRAM reset, the SMC reset, manual reset, regular reset, updating the OSX to the latest and nothing has helped. I've read I might have to replace the logic board but I really hope I don't have to resort to that.
I've posted the reports from the System Information and an app called Etrecheck. Hopefully someone will be able to pinpoint the issue.

1. I live in Atlanta, close enough to an Apple store. But I just know that going there will probably mean I'll have to get the logic board replaced.
2. The only thing I noticed before the first USB port started acting funny was that my battery status changed to "Service Battery". I plan on replacing it this week too.
3. Nope only difference is that my battery drains kind of fast. After about 3-4 hours of my normal usuage with it (Internet, music, videos, and sometimes using Logic) it will be time to hook up the charger.
Would replacing the battery do anything? I'm not thinking it would but figure it'd be worth a shot since I've got to replace it anyway.
And to goofyziggy,
I too noticed that most people who had this problem had some version of OSX 10.8.x -
I need help with a frequently freezing macbook pro late 2011.
The problem started about three weeks ago. Since then I have been trying to troubleshoot myself. With every page or site I go to, including mac applications, my computer freezes with a spinning wheel every 30 seconds or so. The problem began before I upgraded to mavericks. When that did not fix the problem I tried to erase and reinstall mountain lion in recovery. I was able to erase but was only given the option to reinstall mavericks, which I did. I keep seeing the same things in my console. I am not sure if I have one related problem or multiple problems. Please help.
Here are the results from my eyre check

Need help installing boot camp onto macbook pro
I'm attempting to get Boot Camp to run on my MacBook Pro as I need to run several programs on windows for school. I purchased a Windows 8.1 download from Microsoft's website. The download from their website is not an ISO image and is not recognized by the Boot Camp Assistant on the "Create Bootable USB Drive for Windows Installation" screen. I am not a tech savvy person and I would appreciate any help/advice, it seems that I have to somehow convert the download?
Thank you!You get an ISO using this method - http://www.cnet.com/how-to/how-to-download-the-official-microsoft-windows-8-1-is o/
You will need the ISO to be able to build the USB that Bootcamp needs.
