Need help overclocking Phenom 2 1100T cpu on a 890FXA-GD70 mobo

Need help overclocking a AMD Phenom 2 1100T cpu on a 890FXA-GD70 motherboard. I only want to overclock the cpu, not my ram. Basically, I need to know which voltages to change and at what voltages to start at. Also, I've currently have the cpu multiplier and Turbo Core multiplier set at 3.7/3.9, not the stock 3.3/3.7.
Computer Spec's
NZXT Tempest EVO case
MSI 890FXA_GD70 motherboard
AMD Phenom 2 1100T cpu
Corsair Hydro Series H80 heatsink (mediem setting)
G-Skill Ripjaws Series DDR3 1600 ram 16 gbs @ 9-9-9-24-40-2T (going to be getting Corsair Vengeance DDR3 1866 16 gb. kit in 2/12)
OCZ ZX Series 1250 watt modular psu
OCZ Vertex 3 120 gb. Max IOPS ssd
2 Western Digital Caviar Black 1.0 tb. hard drives
HIS Digital IceQ X Turbo X Radeon HD 6950 2.0 gb. video card (getting 2nd IceQ X TurboX HD 6950 2.0 gb. for CrossfireX next month)
Hauppauge WinTV HVR-1850 tv tuner
Windows 7 Professional SP1 x64

If you didnt adust the multipliers for anything or changed the FSB then simply bump your CPU (Not CPUNB) to about ~1.42v   that should keep it stable.
Run Prime95 or Intel Burn test for a couple hours to make sure

PC Power & Cooling have a long reputation as being a high-end PSU manufacturer(also been doing it much longer).  If paying the extra £15.00 doesn't mean much, then go for the PC P&C. If the funds are tighter, get the Corsair.  I have the PC P&C Silencer 750.
My guess Henry, is that kmufc77 was linking to either of these Silencer 750 PC P&C PSUs

The Silencer 610 would be more than enough for the 4870, but the 750 will give greater overhead and room for upgrades to more power hungry components or Crossfire.

yes you are right i have ordered the Silencer 750 PC P&C PSUs but a black colour not red i payed the extra over the corsair 750W purely on the repitation of PC P&C PSUs. i hope i have made the right choice as i considering crossfire in the very near future

  • Need help choosing a good CPU Fan.

I'm running an AMD Athlon XP 3200+ on my motherboard.  I would appreciate any suggestions on a good quality CPU fan. Can't establish a good overclock without good stability, which comes from how well you keep your system cool.  Nevermind what I just said, I'm talking out of my *censored*. Anyway, I could really use some recomendations.

    Hehe,
    i use a vantec tornado....
    http://www.newegg.com/app/viewProductDesc.asp?description=11-999-612&depa=0
i will give you plenty of warning, she is loud....however she blows some air!!!84.1cfm's to be exact  but yes there is a comprise when using this thing...
if your heatsink will accept a 90mm fan, then i would suggest giving it a try if your going for a record oc or something to the effect b/c the 90mm moves some 10cfm's more i believe....
unless your going to watercool, get one of these... mated with the proper heatsink youll be just fine... my tornado keeps the thing at 33C with a full load... you wont be disappointed with the cooling, !!!!!

  • HI i need help overclocking my acer aspire 5750-6872 can some one help me do this?

Hi, i download the extreme tuning utility program, it tells me all the information that i need to know about the laptop but it does not let me use the manual tuning feature. I would like to know if anyone else has experienced this problem, and can help me figure out what is going on. I also have the intel turbo boost monitoring tool. (which is kind of useless at this point) The laptop is a acer aspire 5750-6872 intel core i5-2430M 2.4GHz with turbo boost up to 3.0GHz (can i use the turbo boost manually or is it automatic) I would also like to manually tune the graphic options as well, its a intel HD Graphics 3000, up to 1760 MB Dynamic video memory.

    M325i,
The turbo boost function is automatically controlled by the operating system, it is not something that can be manually operated.
I do not believe there is any way to manually adjust the amount of video RAM to be used, other than in the BIOS, but even that is going to be limited on how much you could possibly set it to (if any adjustment at all), I believe it is dynamically done by the operating system as well.

Playing aan entire level of Crysis or Crysis2 with extreme settings is a very sure way to test. A multiplayer round of BF3 at max settings is also a good test.
If you got the max stable clockrates without overvolting and temps are fine. Go on adding voltage in small steps and agin try the highest max clockrate of any voltage step. That way you'll find the total max clockrate. At some point adding voltage will have no effect anymore and that is the highest clockrate. Remember that voltage unlike just higher clockrates will increase the temps massively.
    Agreed with flobelix
Crysis 2 with ultra setting and set Vsync to Disabled is a very hard test in real life application, I don't use furmark or kombustor. To test stability first I run Vantage and 3DMark2011 then playing Crysis 2 about 2 - 3 hours every day for aweek or 2 weeks and if pass then I call it stable
I use GTX580 Lightning and at stock volt I can do 920/2200 with all little DIP switches turned ON/Enabled/Unlocked excluding Xtreme cooling LN2 DIP switch since I use normal air cooling and not LN2. If I let all DIP switches to their stock/OFF even at 900MHz I can't pass Vantage.
For safe daily OC better stay under 80c for your core temp and under 70c for your VRM & Memory temp  also do not use beyond +200mv for your core voltage (+200mv is the max value)
Note : For 24/7 I use 980/2300 with +112mv/+40mv. VRM and memory temp are under 60c and Core temp is under 80c.

  • P7N2 Diamond NEED HELP XD

    hi
i need help settings up my P7N2 diamond aka 790i Ultra mobo
the bios setitngs are so differnet and labled all different to any other 7xx chipset so im confused to heck
I AM RUNNING 1.1 BIOS update
    so here are my specs
    Intel Core 2 Quad Q8200
    G.Skill Ripjaws DDR3 1600Mhz (2x2GB)
    GeForce GTX260 SLI x2
Corsair PSU TX850 (850 watt, sli cert)
    1 HD, 1 DVD
So i want to overclock my CPU to run 2.8Ghz 1600Mhz FSB but i am struggle to understand the voltage and the way its labled on this board
Intel spec sheet says my cpu voltage should be 1.1 - 1.36 max but on the bios when i change cpu volts its like 0.12500 before it gos into the red  ?
now of the voltages are labled how they were in my 780i or 750i, etc
on 780i i had stable 2.8 ghz 1600mhz fsb here are the voltages i had
    cpu = 1.36
    fsb = 1.3
    SPP = 1.4
    MCP = 1.55
how do i translate these voltages on the cell menu ? what is what, on the cell there is no fsb, mcp or spp voltages
please help me i cant get a single tiny overclock to even get into windows and im starting to think its due to a poor bios, my first MSI product
    please help
    thanks

Do you have Real Temp & CPU-Z utilities? Real Temp will have the VID of your CPU. CPU-Z will show your CPU voltage & other useful info. When running stock, what does CPU-Z say the CPU Volts are? In bios Cell Menu, CPU V. is in increments of added voltage, as an example, if your CPU is at 1.24, & you want 1.36, change the Cell Menu CPU V. setting to +0.12.
SPP = 1.4 (This looks like a NB V. setting)
MCP = 1.55 (This looks like a SB V. setting)
In 'Advanced Bios Features' - 'Chipset Features', disable HPET. In bios 'Cell Menu', 'System Clock Mode' - 'Manual' (set desired settings accordingly) , 'D.O.T.' - disable, 'Spread Spectrum' - disable.
Use the Forum Search Button on P7N2 threads if you haven't yet. There should be some useful info that will help.

  • MSI P67A-G43 (B3) - Need help identifying this postcode

    Need help identifying this postcode:
    CPU:i7-2600k
    Mobo:MSI P67A-G43 (B3)
    PSU: Corsair 750w
GPU isn't the problem since I replaced it and still get this postcode. RAM isn't the problem since I've tried four different sticks one at a time in each slot and still get the postcode. Getting no live video from the GTX580 and no onboard video. I think either the mobo or the CPU is the problem, don't want to have to send both in for RMA so if anyone can help me identify the postcode that'd be great.

    Hey Ctrl
Well I happen to have the same beep code on my motherboard (P67A-C43 B3), after trying different suggestions from the MSI forum users and MSI technical support I ended up RMA(ing) my motherboard.
You can try resetting the CMOS, by flipping the battery and leaving it like that for 5 minutes and putting it back to its original side. I highly doubt it is your cpu. Like anybody in the forum might suggest, try different components which appears you already did. I doubt your corsair is faulty. CPU and motherboard are your best bet that are faulty, and i highly doubt that it is the CPU because for there to find another person (you) that had the same problem as me since last friday (RMA board yesterday, wednesday) I find it highly unlikely.

  • 890FXA-GD70 Overclocking DDR 1333 Memory to 1600

I am a professional network administrator and have been building my own computers since 2002.  However, am not a gamer and have never over clocked anything.  I just built a new rig based on the on a MSI 890FXA-GD70 mobo and an AMD 1090T processor.  The mobo supported 1600, 1800, and 2000 speeds of over clocked DDR3 1333 RAM.  I purchased 2 2GB sticks of Corsair Dominator CMP4GX3M2A1600C8 RAM because it was supposed to be able to handle being OCed to 1600 with no problems.  My system is running great but it automatically detects the RAM as 1333 MHz with timings of 9-9-9-24 instead of the advertised 1600 with 8-8-8-24.  I went into the BIOS and manually set the timings to 8-8-8-24 and it worked fine.  I then set the ratio from Auto to 1/4 which showed the speed of the RAM at 1600 MHz.  However, when I told it to save the setting and reboot it would not come up at all.  The only way to recover my system was to use the jumpers on the mobo to reset the CMOS back to its original settings.  From everything I've read it's easy to set the RAM to 1600.  Both my mobo and the RAM are advertised by the manufacturer as supporting 1600 DDR3.  I would appreciate any advice anyone has.  Specific settings for my mobo would be appreciated.  My system is fine the way it is but I paid extra to have certified 1600 MHz RAM and would like to be able to use it at that speed.  Thanks in advance.

    Mobilebyrd,
I received a personal message from you with the question below but for some reason my account won't let me send personal messages or view to profile to get your e-mail address.  Hopefully you will get this.  Please post a reply to this forum if you have any more questions.  Hopefully it will help others how are having the same problem.  I have posted the question and answer.  Please keep in mind that the settings I used are for the Corsair Dominator RAM that is approved to go to 1800 MHz.  You settings may be different but this is how you change them.  Also some of the settings have to be made individually for each stick of ram while others apply to all sticks.  I am not familiar with the setting for TC but assume that is the same as CAS since that's the only one missing and it's in the same order.  The timings on the RAM like 8-8-8-24 are in order of CAS, tRCD, tRP, and tRAS.  They are also in that same order in the BIOS.
Q:  I saw where you had successfully overclocked your memory inside the BIOS. I have looked at the manual for the board but have not been able to figure out how to input the changes for the memory. Can you supply a step by step for accessing the Cell Menu and then accessing the Ram's TC, TRCD, TRP, etc. I have figured out how to change the command rate and can see the aforementioned timings but have not been able to determine where I go to change them.
A:  To Overclock Memory from 1333 to 1600
    Go to Cell Menu
Advanced DRAM Configuration (press enter to go into sub menu)
Change each option below by hitting enter on default setting (auto) and using up and down arrows to select new setting then hit enter to select it.
    DRAM Timing Mode:  Both
    CAS: 8
    tRCD: 8
    tRP: 8
tRAS: 24 *highlight Auto and use + and – buttons to change
(must change for each stick of RAM individually)
    ESC to exit sub menu
Under Advanced DRAM Configuration select FSB/DRAM Ratio
    FSB/DRAM Ratio:  1/4 (for 1600 MHz RAM)
    Command Rate: Auto
Scroll down further in the menu until you get to voltages
    DRAM Voltage: 1.651 *highlight
Options are grayed out, you must select Auto and use + and – buttons to change value then push enter to select.
    Spread Spectrum: Enable
After making these changes and it's working I recommend backing up your BIOS settins to a USB device from the M-Flash menu.  I would also recommend backing up your working BIOS before making these changes in case it won’t book after you change the RAM settings.  In my case I didn’t change the RAM voltage and it wouldn’t boot so I had to use the reset jumper on the Mobo to set it back to factory settings.  I then had to reconfigure everything else that I had already done.
    Save and Exit

  • Help choosing RAM for 890FXA-GD70

Hello .. I'm planning to buy a new PC based on AMD Thuban platform & MSI 890FXA-GD70 Mobo.
but have a problem deciding what RAM i should buy, i already read memory test report from 890FXA-GD70 page and yet i'm still confused
First, i'm interested to buy Corsair Dominator 2x2GB CMP4GX3M2B1600C8, this RAM tested for AMD system but have a 1600MHz speed (which only supported by this MoBo at OC, i have read some topics that at BIOS this memory will downgrade to 1333.) is it will cause some stability issues so i have to choose a 1333MHz RAM instead?
Secondly, i'm confused about the max. memory supported by AMD (& this MoBo). if i'm using 2 slots (dual channel 2x2GB 1600 or 1333) RAM now, can i add a second dual channel RAM in the future, so i can have a 4x2GB RAM?
sorry for my bad English (I'm from Indonesia) and any help would be appreciated ..

    thanks Svet.
okay, i'm gonna ask about this test report http://eu.msi.com/uploads/test_report/TR10_2025.pdf
there's a couple of memory modules listed under "DDR III DDR-1600 oc" that only checked for 2 DIMMs for this MoBo, not 4 DIMMs like 1333 list.
so considering what's written on that sticky thread, is it safe to run 4 DIMMs of DDR-1600 on this MoBo, especially for Corsair memory i mentioned before? either overclocking my system for 'true' 1600 speed or just leave it on 1333, . thanks for your reply.

  • Need help with overclocking my x58 pro-e

hi i have this new mb from msi and i need help fixing stability issues :
ok here i go i did the normal oc to 3.1 that needed nothing voltage wise so now i need to go pro ^^ so plz help me out and 1 more thing if u know any thing about ssd and ide mode or there is any thing better plz help me out :>
ok i tried oc it to 4.2 it runs fine tell it hangs some times and freezes or even do some restarts on its own the usual i mean for a fail oc :P if u could help me out setting up my oc in a pro way i would love u for ever ^^
specs r writing down under ^^

OK i m back guys and sorry i took so long i tried some new O.C and i got so far as 3.7 on my cpu i saw that i had like really bad heat on the cpu on OCCT/prime and other  testing programs i easily got to 95+ witch i stoop not wanting to know where it will hit :P
then i opened my pc yanked the motherboard out removed the cooler and the IOH cooler cleaned them both up reapplied the Thermal Grease witch came with my Thermaltake ISGC-400 and for extra cooling i add a sec fan on top of the cooler fan (yes it made some extra noise but it works :P ) rebuild  it  and tried again and the result was :
    ideal temp: 60+ / load temp: 95+ / IOH temp: 85-95+ // and now :
SAME !!!! but the IOH dropped like a charm to 55 maybe 65 max .
so i know it was time to google some webpages and i saw some photos of CPU-Z all showing low core voltage and by low i mean the standard core i7 920 voltages !  mine was given by the auto bios setting so i continued searching tell i found out the higher the V.core is the high hte numbers are on the sensors !
i found out that a standard voltage will take me to 4GHz of speed so i tried it on my 3.7 (current speed )
and the result was lets just say WOW ! i think :
    ideal  temp 38+ / load temp: 83 (prime95) / IOH temp : 55-60 (after the cleaning / rergreasing)
so i tried it with my game (wow) and it never raise more than 65 max ! so if i over clocked it to 4K i dont think i will ever overheat it never the less i have a temp montering it with a max 85 on the alarm .
so far my tests and errors :
    Multiplier= x21
    bus speed = 177
    voltages:
    QPI: 1.30
CPU V.core : 1.28ish i cant realy tell from the bios
    CPU PLL: 1.82ish same thing
    speedstep=off/turbo=off/C1E=off/execute = off /over speed protection=off /V.tech=off/HPET=on(so numbers wont play much on cpu-z)
    now for ram :
3x6 ratio ( in bios in windows it shows 2:6 for some reason ) DRAM frequency is showing 531 Mhz
