Need help parsing a long and passing the value.

I'm doing Cattle Drve 4b on javaranch.com (http://www.javaranch.com/say.jsp) and I need a bit of help.
I want to pass the reference of my num value to several small methods to work out the value printed. Here's the original code I did from 4a:
public class Say{
public static void main(String[]args){
int num = Integer.parseInt(args[0]);  // parse argument from command line
String array[] ={"Zero", "One", "Two", "Three", "four", "five", "six","seven","eight",
           "nine","ten","eleven","twelve","thirteen","fourteen","fifteen","sixteen",
           "seventeen","eighteen","nineteen","twenty","thirty","fourty","fifty",
           "sixty","seventy","eighty","ninety"};     //initialize the array
//start check for value
if(num<21)
System.out.println("\n" + array[num]);
                                        //  \n is added before
else if(num<30)                                   //  each result for a
System.out.println("\n" + array[20]+ "-" + array[(num-20)]);     //  cleaner output
else if(num<40)
System.out.println("\n" + array[21]+ "-" + array[(num-30)]);
else if(num<50)
System.out.println("\n" + array[22]+ "-" + array[(num-40)]);
else if(num<60)
System.out.println("\n" + array[23]+ "-" + array[(num-50)]);
else if(num<70)
System.out.println("\n" + array[24]+ "-" + array[(num-60)]);
else if(num<80)
System.out.println("\n" + array[25]+ "-" + array[(num-70)]);
else if(num<90)
System.out.println("\n" + array[26]+ "-" + array[(num-80)]);
else if(num<100)
System.out.println("\n" + array[27]+ "-" + array[(num-90)]);
//endFor 4b I need to be able to print out values in the billions, so I was going to create a few methods to keep it clean like so:
public class billion (long (int num)
{ if( num<9 billion)
     num-= 8 billion
System.out.print("eight billion ");
else if(num<8 billion){
num-= 7 billion
System.out.print("seven billion ");
....etc
return num;
public class million...
public class thousand...
etc.And the current main section will be moved into a new "tens" class.
I'm running into two problems though.
1. How do you parse a long? I know integers are like so:
int num = Integer.parseInt(args[0]); are longs the same?
like:
long num = Long.parseLong(args[0L])if not, how can I do it?
2. how do I properly pass num to all the methods? I'm going to make num a public int and make the methods public because that seems simplest, but can I pass num to the method and then return the new value of num back to main?
BTW, I'll be removing the carriage return from the beginning of the "tens" class when all is said and done so the results don't end up printing on multiple lines.
Thanks in advance everyone.

The L suffix is used to identify a Long literal.
The index of the args[] array does not need to be specified as a Long.
Solong num = Long.parseLong(args[0]);will suffice. You might want to put that in a try/catch block to catch the NumberFormatException that will be thrown if args[0] cannot be parsed to a long value.
Various ways to update the value of num in the methods of the same class:
Simplest of all: declare num as an instance variable. The methods simply access and assign its value.
Other ways:
-- pass num as a parameter to the method.
-- return the value of num from the method (provided the method doesn't have to return any other value)
-- Have a getNum() method return the value of num
-- Have setNum() method to update the value of num
db
What's that line? public class billion (long (int num)edit Typos, typos...
Also, the set/get approach with public access is the preferred method when used in the methods of another class.
Don't forget that the other class has to know whose set/get methods to call.

    revert back to Maverick that is what I had to finally do. This was the worst upgrade I have ever seen. Hopefully you have Time Machine backup and can revert back. It was pretty painless except for a few issues. I will wait until Apple gets their stuff together on this upgrade or may never will.

    How to retrieve the procedure value and pass the value to a form field?

    Set property for the field and the value is the actual procedure/function.

  • Call view of another WDA Component and pass the value to it

    Dear Experts,
    I have a wda component1 with window1 and view1
    wda1 has a node1 with one attribute carrid (no default value).
    view1 also has the same structure and is mapped with it.
    (here i have one input field of type carrid)
    This view will be shown in wda2.
    now i have wda2 with window2 and view2 with the same structure & names as above (node & attribute)
    But here the carrid has a default value of 'AA'(so that when view1 is displayed in wda2,data is passed from here wda2).
    in wda property->used components i have used wda component1
    in view property->used components i have used wda component1
    view2 has a viewcontainer.
    In window2, in the view container i have embedded the view1 of the wda1.
    In the component2 context node, the default value of carrid is AA.
    when i have executed the application of wda2, it was showing the input field of view1 of wda1.
    but it was empty ie., had no value (AA).
    Now My problem is if i have the value AA in wda2 for the attribute, how does it get passsed to wda1.
    Regards
    Sajid

    Hi Sajid,
    Let me first try to say as to what I thought you were trying to achieve.
    You have 2 components say SUB & MAIN. Now in both the components you are trying to display an input field on your layout. This input field is bound to an context attribute CARRID & you have given it an initial value in only 1 component. (MAIN component) Now within your component MAIN you have an VIEWCONTAINERUIELEMENT & you are trying to display the view from SUB within it. But you end up with the input field from your MAIN view displaying the default value as AA whereas the view from SUB displays a blank input field. You now want to be able to have this input field fetch the value from your MAIN component and get initialized. So if this is your requirement then you can continue reading below:
    1) When you create your context at component controller level in component MAIN you have a property for the node which says as: "Interface Node" Just checkmark this checkbox. When you do this you would be able to share the data within your context nodes across other components.
    2) Specify a default value of AA in the "Default Value" property of the attribute in component MAIN
    3) Now go to your other component SUB which you would like to also get initialised. Define a usage of your component MAIN within this component.
    4) Go to your component controller & create your context node & attribute with exactly the same names as how you had created in your MAIN component.
    5) Do a mapping between the interface controller of your MAIN component & the component controller of your SUB component
    6) You would be able to see that the appearance of the node has changed to an interface node. This means that your SUB component now has an exact replica of your MAIN components context data.
    Test your application after following all these steps & you should be fine.
    Regards,
    Uday

  • Need help with Apps misbehaving and upgrading the MacOS: The all-in-one post. ;)

    Hi there,
    So, I've been browsing the SL and Mavericks forums for the last days but although I have fetched some useful tips and answers, still need some help. Let me put it diary-style so I can be more concise ;)
    Here's my current system profile:
    iMac 27" (aluminium back- if I'm no wrong, from around late 2009-mid 2010)
    MacOS 10.6.1 Never updated.
    3.06 Ghz Intel Core2 Duo
    4Gb RAM
    LaCie Big Disk via FireWire 800
    Internet access via Ethernet port (cable)
    And here's The Issues Log:
    – Day one: First ever Kernel Panic. Restart. Nothing (apparently) wrong.
    – 3 weeks elapsed: Second Kernel Panic. Same. iMac restarts fine. Apps fine. No missing files. No misbehaviour experiences.
    – After a month or so: One morning, Skype decides on its own to stop launching. The night before, I chatted with one of my clients, fine as always, but at the next day, nothing. Computer is usually shut off for the night. And so it was that night. Updated Skype and also did all the guest account trick / repaired permissions / repair ACLs. Nothing worked. Overwrote the Skype app with a former functioning version I have in an MacOS 10.5 system. Didn't work. Now I have to chat on the MacOS 10.5 computer. No good.
    – 15 days ago or so: After realising that I no longer have my HP1515n printer (it ran out of inks and thrashed it. It costs more to refill than to buy a new one), I deleted the printer from the printers list in the System Prefs Pane.
    – Last week: Acrobat (CS4) won't launch a PDF file and freezes. Spinning beach ball. Force quit and try opening the PDF file again. Freezes again. And again. And again. With that file and every other PDF.
    Photoshop CS5 fails to open or crashes when attempting to open any jpg or tiff file. InDesign and Illustrator CS5 are frozen and had to force quit both. MacOS 10.5
    Restart the iMac thinking it is just a "common" bad day and hoping everything will be alright after the restart, but nope.
    Not only the CS5 stops working; MSOffice stops working too. Spinning beach ball. Begin to suspect of the deletion of the printer, however, I also deleted the same printer in the above mentioned 10.5 system and I'm not experiencing anything strange. Reinstalled the HP drivers but nothing remarkable happens.
    Then, try to uninstall CS5, CS4, Office, etc. Try to reinstall Acrobat CS4 and the CS5 apps. Reinstall Office. Nothing. Just Outlook works.
    Since I had to desperately meet deadlines, convinced a colleague to come over to the studio and -I know, I know- allowed me to install a copy of CS6. It seems to work fine, except for Acrobat, which randomly freezes/hangs/works and Photoshop, which works fine unless you want to open a layered file containing text layers or if you want to type text on a normal file, because it freezes as soon as the Text Tool is pressed in the toolbar, of course, spinning beach ball again.
    Well, Illustrator CS6 sometimes shows a strange black thin frame overlaid on the interface but goes away by switching to another workspace and then back to the current. InDesign CS6 seems to be fine and making PDFs as expected. However, as I said before, it is pure luck if Acrobat accepts to open the file or even if it launches. Spinning beach ball when freezing/hanging.
    As a method for eliminating possible culprits, did a clean up of the Suitcase Fusion database, removed duplicate and a few (less than 10) corrupted fonts.
    Removed completely MSOffice reinstalled and updated. Nothing. Now I neither have MSoffice running.
    I am no rookie but I can't even imagine what can cause such amount of misbehaviour, (kernel panics have something to do? malware? lack of system updates? MacHD is damaged?) so I'm thinking of a few scenarios:
    Backing up my projects and user folder –anything else to backup? (In fact I've already done that)– and:
    1. Do a clean install. Not sure if it will be best to completely erase the whole drive or if a standard reinstallation will be enough.
    2. Take the machine to a Genius Bar to see if there's anything that can be done without major OS messes.
    3. Erase the drive and go through the Mavericks upgrading (SL to Ln to MLn to Mavcks), although not sure if this upgrade is worth yet.
    4. Replace HD for a brand new one and either step 1 or 3.
    5. As a complement, I'm thinking of adding more RAM.
    Well. It is really the first time I don't know what to do. I have work to do and would not want to face a week away from my main computer and since most of the files are CS5-6 and hence, can't move to my wife's iMac...
    Apologies if this post feels too long, but I will truly appreciate any kind of input and advice on one of more of the issues mentioned in this post.
    And if it fits best in any other forum, please also let me know.
    Cheers and thanks in advantage.

    You have to use the Base Station Menu on the Menu Bar at the very top of your screen.
    Say thanks by clicking "Kudos" "thumbs up" in the post that helped you.

    Any help would be great.
    I need to programmatically send the token to the webservice and initiate request and response accordingly
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi Shawn,
    Thanks for your help. I am still struggling. There is a Binary security token element which will contain the public version of the certificate,
    with the certificate itself sent along as base64 encoded data.
    Below is my code, if you can suggest:
    ClientSection clientSection = ClientSection)WebConfigurationManager.GetSection("system.serviceModel/client");
    ChannelEndpointElement endpoint = clientSection.Endpoints[0];
    string endpointStr = string.Format("Address: {0}; BindingConfiguration: {1}; Contract: {2}", endpoint.Address.ToString(), endpoint.BindingConfiguration, endpoint.Contract);
    EndpointAddress remoteAddress = new EndpointAddress(endpoint.Address.ToString());
    NotificationServiceClient client = new NotificationServiceClient(endpoint.BindingConfiguration, remoteAddress);
    X509Store store = new X509Store(StoreName.Root, StoreLocation.LocalMachine);
    store.Open(OpenFlags.ReadOnly);
    X509Certificate2 cert = new X509Certificate2();
    for (int i = 0; i < store.Certificates.Count; i++)
    if (store.Certificates[i].Subject == "E=[email protected], CN=collab-dev.aero.bombardier.net, OU=Aerospace, O=Bombardier Inc., L=Montreal, S=Quebec, C=CA")
    cert = store.Certificates[i];
    //byte[] rawdata = cert.GetRawCertData();
    //BinarySecretSecurityToken token = new BinarySecretSecurityToken(rawdata);
    X509SecurityToken token = new X509SecurityToken(cert);
    client.ClientCredentials.ClientCertificate.Certificate = cert;
    // instead of certificate the enoced token needs to be sent.
    Any help would be great. I am totally new to wcf.
    Thanks.

  • To pass the values through variable in JDBC adapter

    Hello,
    We are working in JDBC adapter. Currently we have written the select statement in JDBC sender adapter to select all the values from the table in SQL SERVER.
    Instead of this, Can we use a variable and pass the values in there from XI in order to select the records from the table based on values in the variable?
    Expecting Advice!
    Thanks,
    Lakshmi.

    Hi krishnan,
    You can use the JDBC receiver adapter to acheive a select using variables. Here you create a canonical XML format(your XSD) based on which the JDBC receiver adapter issues a select and returns you the response. chk this url in help site http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw04/helpdata/en/14/80243b4a66ae0ce10000000a11402f/frameset.htm for the canonical format.
    However u lose the flexibility of polling the table at regular tables available with sender adapter. Also you need an event(a message) to trigger this select query execution, since it is a receiver CC config.

  • How to pass the value to "Assignment" when submit the program RFITEMGL?

    Hello friends,
    I want to submit program RFITEMGL  (t-code FBL3N) with some screen fields, some fields are OK to fill such as u201COpen at key dateu201D, u201CG/L accountu201D and u201CCompany codeu201D。 But for the field "Assignment" (It will appear after cilck Dynamic Selection), I don't know how to pass value to it.
    Could you help me about how to pass the value to "Assignment" when submit the program RFITEMGL  (t-code FBL3N) ?

  • Pass the value for dictionary field that doen't have parameter ID

    Respected Members,
    I have a requirement that i have to call the tcode Va11(inquiry creation) from my program and pass the values for the customer po number and customer po date available in the inquiry creation screen.
    Since whatever require for the first screen of VA11 i can pass the values with using SET parameter ID becoz all the things have the parameter ID .
    Document type ,sales org, dist channel and division are having the parameters ID.
    Now exactly where to put the values for the next screen in the field customer po number and customer po date doesn't have the parameter ID.
    Fields are BSTKD and BSTDK .
    Now  how to pass the values from my module pool program.
    Please give me some solution.
    Suppose i m creating a parameter ID from the program then also it won't get attach to this fields.
    Please give me yours solution as soon as possible.
    Thanks

    hi Manish..
    It the Fields are not assigned with PARAMETER ID then We cannot pass the data using SAP Memory (Set Parameter ID).
    So the Only way u can pass the Data is using
    Enhancements (if they are provided)
    or
    BDC technique.
    Reward if Helpful.

  • Passing the values in Recipe  PLM WEBUI

    Created a new tab for Recipe via customization in PLM Web UI. But I am not able to  create new fields in the screen and pass the values.
    Please let me know the configuration steps and how to pass the values to PLM Web UI

    Hi Shailesh
    You will have to create 'New Selection' in either Row/Columns (wherever you wish to display the Key Figures) or you could also create a 'Restricted Key figure'.
    In  the First Selection / RKF.. select the ey Figure for  'No of Employee' and then select the Characteristic for the From/To Period (0I_FPER).
    In the second Selection / RKF..select the Key Figure for the Amount and then select the Char for the From/To Period (0I_FPER).
    If there is any other characteristic which is used for identifying the Employees that have resigned, (say for Eg. Employee Status could be 0 for resigned employee, a hypothetical case), select the char. for Employee status with the value '0' and include it in both the selections / RKFs and you will get the desired results.
    Pl remember, if you select a period variable with a range (i.e. from and to values within the same variable)  , then you will get only one column for 'Amount' and the value in this column will be for value for the period.
    If you want Amount for From and To values to appear in two different columns , the do not select variable with a 'range'. Instead select two variables with single value , one each from From and To.  (However, I am not sure if you requirement wants From and To in two different columns, although, you are saying so !!!). If you select two variable (say for eg. ZPERIOD1 and ZPERIOD2 then in your selections you will not use 0I_FPER instead the new variables).
    Hope you find the answer useful.
    Regards
    Umesh

  • I need help writing a script that finds the first instance of a paragraph style and then changes it

    I need help writing a script that finds the first instance of a paragraph style and then changes it to another paragraph style.  I don't necessarily need someone to write the whole thing, by biggest problem is figuring how to find just the first instance of the paragraph style.  Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

    Hi,
    Do you mean first instance of the paragraph style
    - in a chosen story;
    - on some chosen page in every text frames, looking from its top to the bottom;
    - in a entire document, looking from its beginning to the end, including hidden layers, master pages, footnotes etc...?
    If story...
    You could set app.findTextPreferences.appliedParagraphStyle to your "Style".
    Story.findText() gives an array of matches. 1st array's element is a 1st occurence.
    so:
    Story.findText()[0].appliedParagraphStyle = Style_1;
    //==> this will change a paraStyle of 1st occurence of story to "Style_1".
    If other cases...
    You would need to be more accurate.

  • New airport user need help setting up a pc on the network

    went and bought a airport extream today and my mac works fine on it but i also have a pc and need help getting it to work with the airport express. it seems to see the airport in the network slection screen but after i put in the pass i get nothing and it returns to the "chose a wireless network" can anyone help?

    Thanks for the reply.
    That's interesting, I guess I had assumed that would be a basic thing.
    Right now the 4000 number is in port 1, and then 4244 is in port 2. So if no one else is on the phone, and my  boss picks up his phone, dials 9 then XXX-XXXX, he will be routed outbound on the 4000 line on port 1. Then while he's talking, if I pick up the phone and dial 9 then XXX-XXXX, I will be routed out on the 4244 line on port 2.
    Am I understanding that correctly?
    If that is the case, then that is a bit frustrating. Our 4000 line has everything on it, call waiting, caller id, long distance, etc. But the 4244 line is just a basic service. So if I'm calling local or toll free, I don't want to tie the other line up in case someone else needs to make a long distance call to a client. Is there any work around to that at all? Is there any way to use steering digits to point the call to the right line? Would we have to put the PSTN lines on seperate SPA400's?
    Again, any comments and suggestions are much appreciated!

  • Help Creating A Link In An IR Report Passing The Value From A Different Col

    Version 4.0.2.00.07
    Hello,
    I have an Interactive Report with a column that I need to create a link on but I need to pass the value of another column.
    This report shows the Features of a particular Release. There is a select list for the Release that is selected and executes the report.
    There is a column that indicates whether the Feature has a Commitment attached to it. If there is have that a link to another report that shows all the Commitments for that Feature by passing the FEATURE_ID which is also a column on the Feature report.
    Query:
    SELECT
          ,CASE WHEN ft.feature_id IN (SELECT cc.feature_id
                                       FROM customer_commitments cc
                                       WHERE ft.feature_id = cc.feature_id
                                      ) THEN 'Yes' ELSE 'No'
           END "Commitment Exists"
              ,ft.feature_id
    FROM ....If "Commitment Exists" has a 'Yes', the 'Yes' is a link that will pass the FEATURE_ID to another report that will show the Commitments for that Feature. If the "Commitment Exists" has a 'No' then no link.
    I was also wondering if the Commitment report could open in a seperate window and make it modal?
    I hope this is clear and someone could help me.
    Please let me know if it's not clear or more information is needed.
    Thanks,
    Joe

    To accomplish this I would build the link as part of the value. So if Yes the Yes itself would be a link, if No is simply text as today.
    It would look something like this:
    SELECT
          ,CASE WHEN ft.feature_id IN (SELECT cc.feature_id
                                       FROM customer_commitments cc
                                       WHERE ft.feature_id = cc.feature_id
           THEN
            '<a href="f?p=&APP_ID.:NEW_PAGE:&SESSION.::::Pn_FEATURE_ID:' || ft.feature_id || '">Yes</a>'
           ELSE
            'No'
           END "Commitment Exists"
              ,ft.feature_id
    FROM ....One problem with this approach is when you export the report (as a CSV for example). There are a few ways to handle this, one is to simply duplicate the column with clear text yes and no and set this column to be included on export and only visible on export. The other column, with the link, set it to no export.
    The other option is to add another condition on the REQUEST value.
    SELECT
          ,CASE WHEN ft.feature_id IN (SELECT cc.feature_id
                                       FROM customer_commitments cc
                                       WHERE ft.feature_id = cc.feature_id
           THEN
                  decode(:REQUEST, 'CSV', 'Yes'
                , '<a href="f?p=&APP_ID.:NEW_PAGE:&SESSION.::::Pn_FEATURE_ID:' || ft.feature_id || '">Yes</a>'
           ELSE
            'No'
           END "Commitment Exists"
              ,ft.feature_id
    FROM ....It seems that the link itself is getting replaced with a #. The link would look something like this:
    'f?p=&APP_ID.:NEW_PAGE:&SESSION.::::Pn_FEATURE_ID:' || ft.feature_id
    Hope this helps.
    Oh and of course, in order for the link to display you need to change the Display Type to "Standard Report Column" otherwise the HTML will be escaped.
    Thanks
