Need Help Playing iPod on multiple computers

My iTunes library resides on my desktop computer at home. I also have iTunes loaded on my work computer (a laptop) so I can play music from my iPod through my work computer. I have set my work computer iTunes to manually manage music and video but I do not get a play list available for me to choose music to play from the iPod. This functionality was fine using the older versions of iTunes and iPod software. I lost functionality when I upgraded my software.
How can you access your iPod library when you are using iTunes (with no songs in its library) just to play music through a second computer?
Dell 8100   Windows XP Pro

That was exactly it! It works like a charm! Thank you so much for your help

  • I need help with authorization with multiple computers

I know that when you authorize computers, you are supposed to be able to play purchased music on that specific authorized computer. Well how do you do that?? I have a Vaio notebook and a desktop pc. Both are using the most current xp software. When I downloaded iTunes to my desktop I clicked on check for purchased music. It's would probably be helpful to tell you that I bought all my music through iTunes and transfer songs from my nano (LOVE IT) between my notebook. So, when I checked for purchased music to be able to listen to it on the desktop pc that I most recently downloaded iTunes to, none of my purchased music will show up. It says that "all purchased music have been downloaded successfully." Isn't authorizing up to 5 computers the same thing as being able to play all purchased music on those 5 authorized computers?? If so, how do you get your purchased music playlist to show up on the other authorized computers?? HELP!!

    I saw the post:
I'm getting an error message that says I need to check my internet connection and I can't seem to download music from the iTunes Music Store or CDDB.
There are many issues that can cause this type of error. The most common are:
    yadda yadda...
BUT NONE of these seem to fix my problem, which is exactl;y as described. I should not have a problem with the firewall -- it accesses the actual music store with no problem.

  • Need help playing library from multiple machines...

My main computer (desktop) @ my house 'houses' my mp3 collection. I have networked laptops in my garage and just added another laptop to my tv room to play music from.
The problem I run into is having the laptop rescan the desktops library over and over and over again.
Is there a way to 'sync' the xml library file the desktop is using to the laptops? I constantly add files to 'the library' and am increasingly agitated every time I use one of the laptops and my 'new' music is not there.

Did you try sharing your Music from within iTunes? On your Desktop computer, in Preferences, Sharing tab, check "Share my library...".
On the other computers, make sure "Look for shared libraries" is checked. As long as iTunes is open on the "main" computer, all the other ones should be able to listen to music from the main computer by selecting it from the "Shared" section in the sources list.

Your Touch is working correctly. Currently, without unsupported third party hacks, the Touch has NO disc mode. It will only show up in iTunes.
how do i put programes and games in my ipod touch
Right now, you don't. The SDK is scheduled to be released in Feburary. Then developers will be able to write programs that will be loadable.

  • Can I sync my ipod with multiple computers using home share?

Once I homeshare all my computers, can I sync my ipod with any of them?  Or do I always have to sync using the same computer.

What kind of iPod do you have?
For most iPods you can click Manually manage music on the summary page in iTunes. Check out Apple's document -> Using iPad or iPod with multiple computers.
    WTH.

  • I need help using my ipod on multiple computers!

Okay so i got my Ipod on my iMac, and i usually download music from that computer to the ipod and it automatically syncs what i have on my itunes to the ipod, but i recently got a mac book pro, and i read on the apple support page that to transfer music from a secondary computer you have to connect the ipod to the secondary computer and set the ipod to "manually manage songs and videos" however when i select this option, and click apple, it still tells me i have to erase all the music on the ipod currently and replace it with whats on the secondary computer (macbook), all i want to do is be able to take one or two songs that i download from my macbook and put it on the ipod without having to erase everything.
    PLEASE HELP!!

Could it be because its an iPhone and not a true iPod???
    i doubt it.
actually, syncing an iPod Touch (or iPhone) with multiple computers is not recommended @ all. click here to find out what Apple has to say about it.
all i can think of, i you really must do that, is this:
to prevent a sync when plugging in the iPod - hold down the option and the command ( on a PC that would be the shift and ctrl ) keys when plugging in the ipod - keep pressing the keys until the iPod is listed under the devices list in iTunes. now you should be able to do what you want.
however, you do so @ your own peril, as the article above outlined.
alternatively, consider a setup such as this.
    good luck !

  • Help with uploading photos to iPod from multiple computers

I uploaded photos from my computer at home quite easily. Then I plugged my iPod into my computer at work, went to the Photos tab in iTunes, and asked it to sync photos from My Photos on my computer. It proceeded to delete all the photos I had uploaded from home. How can I prevent it from deleting photos previously on the iPod?
    Thanks.

You can't load photos from multiple computers. There's no manual mode for photos, just different ways to sync. Syncing on a different computer will erase what's there. You can read a bit more here: iTunes and iPod: Frequently asked questions (FAQ) about Photo Sync

  • Using my ipod with multiple computers: not the usual problem I think

I've searched the forum and various help documents but I couldn't find the answer to this.
I have a laptop at the office (work-related, so I don't have any of my music on it, just itunes) and my computer at home. Ideally I'd like to:
= keep my ipod automatically synced to my home computer
= be able to connect my ipod to my work laptop and play the music stored on it through itunes there, and also keep it charged and ready for the trip home.
It seems that the 'manually manage music and videos' setting travels with the ipod, rather than being stored on the computer's itunes installation. If I set it at work, so I can play music there, when I connect the ipod at home I have to reset it (and a few times when I did so the ipod started deleting everything because 'sync my music' was not checked, grrr).
I just want to set things up in a way so that when I connect my ipod at work it will let me play whatever songs I have there (without wanting to sync anything), and when I connect it at home it will automatically update it. It's simple enough, but I can't seem to figure out how to do it.
If I connect the ipod at work and press 'cancel' when the 'do you want to erase things' pops up, it doesn't try to change the settings, but at the same time it doesn't let me play music at all, everything is greyed out
does anybody have any idea? I don't want to resort to have to buy a usb power adapter just so that I can play my ipod at work without draining the battery...

  • NEED HELP! Ipod immediately ejected from pc

I've been having trouble with my ipod for the last few months. Whenever I connect it to my computer it immediately ejects. I have tried resetting my ipod and restoring it and nothing worked. Finally I replaced my ipod and got a brand new one and the problem is stll happening. I have an 80GB Ipod classic and I'm using an emachine computer. Does anyone have any suggestions?

I've had this same problem lately, same iPod, but i bought mine about 1-2 years ago so can't replace, but that's off the point, i have tried the 5 R's i've tried switching my USB input, i've tried restarting it and just today it's now frozen in the restart menu after putting it in Disk Mode, i keep trying to restart so it will go to my menus, but it stays on then says connect to power, i've also tried restoring it to factory with my sister's computer and even still the iPod won't play, skips, or slows down when i try to play a song, it was working fine days ago but now nothing... won't even recognize on the computer, NEED HELP FROM SOMEONE, maybe even APPLE if they decide to start customer service for the first time.
