Need help properly formating hard disk. hard disk model wd7500bpvt says no bootable drive.

bought this hard disk new from hp about 3 or 4 months ago.  hard disk was not recognized by the laptop.  i download app from hp to do low level format on hard disk.  Then i formated the drive during windows vista installation.  Upon completion of windows installation the drive will not boot up on its own.  what can i do to fix this?

The odd 400MB is the hidden files put there by the system to define the file structure of the partition, plus other stuff like .Trash. It's perfectly normal and the HDD wouldn't be recognised if they weren't there.
You will see a similar situation with the internal boot drive if you compare the Drive size (leftmost item with the manufacturers designation) and that of Macintosh HD (which is the working partition). In my case this shows 640.14 GB for the drive, 639.79 GB for Macintosh HD, a difference of 350MB
This will be the same within about ± 50MB whatever drive you format in HFS+J, including pen drives.

I have a PC and a need help to configure my external hard disk on my network. Thanks

If you mean you wish to plug a USB drive into the Airport Extreme router (or TC not express) that is easy..
The disk must be formatted FAT32.. as if.. stay away from FAT .. or HFS+ ie Mac OS extended Journaled.
Format the disk on a Mac is best.. and even use GUID partition scheme not MBR.
The PC has no issue writing and reading files because this is a network drive.. The PC does not write to the drive.. it writes files to the Airport OS which writes and reads the disk and passes the info using standard windows SMB.. To the windows computer it will be a Windows NT server.. FAT32 setup.
If your setup is different.. to my hugely guessed assumptions.. give details.. always helps to have.. make and model.
Make and model of disk.. make and model of router.. how the setup will be done.. what windows OS you run.. etc etc.
As it stands your question could have nothing to do with apple at all.. other than you posted in a forum so I guess there is something apple in there somewhere.

  • Need Help with Format/Partition.. using cmd

Okay guys.. Im kinda sick of trying to get my Recovery to work. Seems like its about to finish and everything is perfect.. then suddenly I get an error message saying that Recovery didnt work, or something like that..
I figured I might as well try starting with a fresh hard drive, then trying the recovery again..
So someone told me that if I have the HP Recovery disks, then I would be able to try them, even on a brand new hard drive, or a formatted one or whatever..
    Is this true?
If so, then what I am asking you guys, is, if there is anybody that would be able to help guide me thru the steps needed, in order for me to Format my hard drive, & then partition it or whatever…
& I wanna be able to do all this, using cmd (command prompt)
So Please.. anyone.. your help would be greatly appreciated..
I have an HP Pavilion dv6653cl
    Thanks!!

    Hi,
There's no need to pre-format a new Hard Drive - if you perform a 'Factory Reset' using your Recovery Discs, these will perform a quick format and also re-create all the original partitions on the new drive as part of the process.
A complete guide to using Recovery Discs can be found on the relevant link below.

Your syntax is wrong - look at the post above where this syntax is given:
to_char (add_months(r.formdate,12), 'MM/DD/YYYY') "formdate2"Look at the formula from a logical perspective - "inside out" to read what is happening -
    take formdate, add 12 months
add_months(r.formdate, 12)then apply the to_char format mask - basic syntax
    to_char(date, 'MM/DD/YYYY')Compare to your syntax:
to_char(add_months(r.formdate, 'MM/DD/YYYY'),12) "formdate2"You will see your format string inside the call to add_months, and your 12 inside the call to to_char.
    Good luck!

  • Need help! White screen and hard drive

I have a MacBook Pro A1211 I got off Craigslist. It needed a new logic board and hard drive so I got both. My problem is I just found out the hard drive has windows on it and when I power on the MBP all I get is a white screen.  My question is is there a way to get windows off that hard drive while its installed in the MBP? I've tried every command I could find online to push when I power on the MacBook but it does nothing. I bought a copy of snow leopard 10.6 factory sealed and put it in the super drive but it just spins for a while and then stops. The fans constantly run also but I'm new to MacBook so I don't know if that's suppose to happen. I got the disk management to come up one by holding down option and power on but it didn't give me the option of choosing the SuperDrive and I can't get it back up. It's almost like the keyboard isn't working. If there's any suggestions y'all can give me I'd appreciate it.

  • Need help in installing a SATA hard drive with 865pe NEO2

    Hello there
I need a help in installing a Sata hard drive ,it is WD 250 GB , my motherboard is 865PE Noe2 , the bios is the latest one
already I got another old hard drive ,not a Sata ,a regular IDE one installed as a master hard drive
I want to install the sata hd as a slave for the IDE hd for now to transfer the files and documents
I already physically installed the Sata hard drive yet the problem is that it was listed in the bios , I followed some of the steps here in the forum mentioned but all what I got is I found it listed as the fourth IDE master , not as the primary IDE slave
in Windows Xp Sp2 it is not listed of course in the windows explorer , but it is there in the device manager
look I am very confused and I tried most of the combinations in the ide configuration in BIOS
what should I do coz I am feeling so bad and stupid  ,you can consider me a n00b in this hard drive thing

1st the sata drive cannot be listed as a slave drive to the ide master [key word=ide-can be configured as master OR slave, master IF only 1 hd, master and slave IF 2 hds], on the sata controler you can have master and slave, the ide cable has two connectors for the hds, sata has only 1 hd connector.
are you wanting to install the sata as primary master and move the operating sys to that drive, if so you will need an IMAGING software to move an operating system OR you could do a fresh operating system install to the sata drive then install your programs.

  • Need help in formating a form dealing with negative currency

    Need Help!!!
Creating forms in Adobe acrobat Pro I could format a number cell to calculate additions/subtractions of currency. If the result was negative I could get the cell to show the negative result in red text and show parentheses around them. How can I do that in LiveCycle?
If i have to use formcalc - what would i type in?

In LiveCycle can be done using the Numeric Field object and some formcalc script.
Use the "Numeric Field" from the Object Library. For the Field patterns (Select the placed numeric field, On object Window Object -> Field) use "num.currency{}" to show the currency(Ex: $) and "parentheses" if its negative. Write some script to show red text/border in red .
On exit event of the Numeric Field here is the script:
if($.rawValue <0) then $.font.fill.color.value = "255,0,0" endif  // This will make entire text in red color if the value is negative.
if($.rawValue <0) then $.validate.nullTest = "error" endif      //This will make border of the field in red color if the value is negative.
    Hope this helps.

  • Need help in formatting the report created using SSRS

I have created an image and used it as the body background. But I want that image to come at right
    Set bodyRepeat as RepeatY.
Currently its showing as below              I need this blue image at the right most side of the report as below
Also I need to display text on the image.
    Need Help!!!
    Abhinav

    Hi AbhinavSultania,
According to your description, you created a report and added background image to it, you want to display the image at right side of the report and display text on the image.
According to my knowledge, we could not control position of background image, as a workaround, we can refer to the following steps:
Create an image with the blue line at right side of it using Paint.
Right-click body of the report to open Body Properties dialog box, then import the image as background image.
Drag text box from Toolbox to the blue line of the image. Right-click inside of the text box and click Expression, we can use expression to show dynamic contents at runtime.
The following screenshot is for your reference:
If you have any more questions, please feel free to ask.

  • Dad needs help with laptop out of hard disk space

You Ipod users willh have to excuse me but I need some help. Bought my daughter an 30gb for xmas and one by one we are getting thru the problems. She nows has 1100 songs on it but I had to send her my laptop as it would not talk to her p3. Anyway her hard disk is now full on the laptop. Question is do you have to keep all in library to keep it on the ipod cos she cant get more song on? Can she delete anything from the laptop as I think she is going for the full 7,500 songs on her IPOD Thanks people

Use the instructions in this article to set the iPod to sync manually, and then delete the songs from the iTunes library; they will not automatically be deleted from the iPod.

  • Need help - downloading photos to portable hard drive

I've imported about 2000 photos from my iPhone to my Macbook Air.  I want to export them now to a portable hard drive but it's saying I don't have enough memory.  I was planning on deleting the photos on the MacAir afterwards anyway.
    Two questions:
1.) How do I move these photos to my portable hard drive, so I can then delete them on the hard drive?
2.) How do I bypass downloading to the MacAir next time, and move photos right from iPhone to portable hard drive?
I'm tech savvy on all things Windows, and have had Macs in the past, so I'm ready to pull my hair out over these novice questions.
    Help!

Have your recipients given you any more info than you've given us? The simplest thing for you to do is to capture your footage, get it in a timeline, then export as a QuickTime movie, which should be around 9 or 10 GB in size. Your PC friend would need to download QuickTime in order to view it.
There are tools available to convert to Windows Media or other formats. One of the best is MPEG Streamclip, which you can download here:
    http://www.squared5.com/
You'll need to be certain to format the hard drives properly (do this in Disk Utility): Mac OS Extended for your Mac friend, MS-DOS for your PC friend. There are issues with some PC drives and files over 2GB, so you may need to break your QuickTime movie into 9-minute segments.

  • I need help to repair my external hard drive

    (1) My External Hard Drive finally stopped  working. Whenever I tried to use it, I would only get variants of, "Time Machine couldn't complete the Backup to "My Passport for Mac", or "The backup disc is not available".
    (2) "No problem," I thought. "There is no problem with my computer, so I'll just buy another external hard drive," and I did.
    (3) About this time, I partitioned my computer hard drive to enable me to run both Snow Leopard and Mountain Lion. I did this with step-by-step instructions by Apple technicians.
    (4) I now find that I have lost a considerable number of files, including those that I value most highly.
    (5) I now find that I need the files in my old, abandoned external hard drive, and it seems to me that the easiest way to access those files is simply to repair it.
(Here's what I've tried so far: (1) Disc Utility Repair. Didn't help. (2) COMMAND-R start. This produced a window with the following entries: Restore from Time Machine Backup, Reinstall OSX, Get Help online, Disk Utility. It seemed to offer hope, but I couldn't highlight any of them, and the "continue" command was dimned out. Where do I go from here? Data recovery is the solution usually offered, and I've alwys wondered why. It seems to me that fixing the external hard drive should always be the first thing to be considered. Data recovery is expensive, and fixing the external hard drive might be cheap.

  • Need help using iPod as external hard drive

Hi. Will soon be receiving a new iMac to replace my old Dell PC and had a question about how to get all of the contents of the Dell hard drive onto my new iMac using my 60GB iPod. I am a complete computer novice.
    1. How do I do it?
    2. The iPod is currently formatted for my Dell PC. Once I have transferred all of my files (including music) over to the iMac, do I need to reformat the iPod? How do I do this?
    3. Will all my playlists in iTunes be saved when I do the transfer?
Any advice or direction to links would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks.
    iMac G5

"how to get all of the contents of the Dell hard drive onto my new iMac using my 60GB iPod"
If everything you've got will fit then enable your iPod for disk use and drag what you want onto it, or do it a bit at a time: Using your iPod as a hard disk
There is a good general guide to switching from Windows to Mac at the following link that touches on moving music as well How to Move to a Mac - Get your stuff from your PC to your new Mac
"1. How do I do it?"
Have a look at this guide specifically on moving iTunes: How to use your iPod to move your music to a new computer
"2. The iPod is currently formatted for my Dell PC. Once I have transferred all of my files (including music) over to the iMac, do I need to reformat the iPod? How do I do this?"
If you don't intend using your iPod on Windows again the you can reformat it by restoring it on the Mac: Restoring iPod to Factory Settings
"3. Will all my playlists in iTunes be saved when I do the transfer?"
If you follow the instructions in the guide you should have your whole library just as it was.
