Need help recording

i want to record my dj mixes through my mic line input. i adjusted the volume settings in my system preferences >> sound and tried turning off the built in mic. problem is, i still get feedback from the built in mic, it won't turn off. i want to record with my line in but not built in mic.
i am using parallels desktop - windows xp - soundforge to record. i know i can record with garage band and logic pro but i don't know how. that isn't important though. i'm comfortable using soundforge.
any help would be gladly appreciated. thanks

It sounds like there must be a WinXP control panel that is taking over the settings you made in the Mac System Preferences, maybe? Or in the application itself?
Can you use headphones to avoid the feedback?
WireTap is a general purpose sound recording utility for the Mac, pretty handy:

  • Need help recording live drums on seperate tracks.

I used to be a professional recording engineer, and as such took pride in knowing my way around a console. But with GB I am stumped.
I need to record a live drummer, and subsequently place each drum on a seperate "track" as when recording analog.
Being totally new to hard disc recording, means learning all over again. Drums are set & miced, what do I need to make this happen (or is it even possible in GB)?
Watched the seminar for Logic, and sure enough there was a drum kit properly recorded on individual tracks, but they gave no detailed explination of how that was done.
Thanks for all help. I'm retired now, and looking for something to fill my time.

Basically you select the channels for each track in
the DAW. In this case GB.
At the bottom of the 'track info' window on your real
instrument (mic) tracks use the 'input' pulldown menu
to assign channels for each mic for each track you
    wish to record on.
In case you are not familiar enough with GB.
If the track info window is not open. You can open it
by double clicking on the track, or under 'Track'
    menu use: Show Track Info.
    Or keystroke: 'Command I'.
The available channels will be available and show in
    the input pulldown menu.
So basically you will want an interface with the
    right I/0.
Depending on what you may have been used to in the
    past for analog quality.
You may wish to take some time to research what's
available for the right amount of I/O with good pre's
and conversion. There is definitely a line of
demarcation in the quality of analog circuits and
    digital converters and clock.
It may or may not matter to you, I don't know but
judging from your past and post maybe worth a
mention. However, I don't know to what standards you
    wish to work in.
Standards such as Alan Parsons, Geoff Emerick, and Jeff Lynne.
Also if you want to use outboard analog while
tracking with an interface you may want to have
    insert I/O available.
And of course if you are wanting to use bussing
sends, complete editing, etc. within your DAW you
will want start looking at other DAW's like Logic or
    PT or DP, etc.
Thanks, I want to get started with GB, and have some basic tracks laid & get Logic in a couple of months. Got to have bussing send/recieve for fx on SN, EQing the kit, compression, etc.

  • Need help Recording G-Force VST's Like MInimonsta and M-Tron

    Hello everyone!
Having a great time with logic pro 7 so far,
I need some help recording my G-Force synths.
Do I use the instrument,Rewire, or Audio tracks?
Any basic setup tips would be golden!
    Thanks Folks
    Abe
    1.5 ghz, 1 gig ram   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

You should be using the AU versions... any reason not to or was the VST term used as a generic term for softsynth? They are avalable as AU.
You would use an Audio Instrument track and then where you would set the input if it were an audio track... in audio instrument this is a pop up for your softdynths/samplers.
Once you are ready to commit them as audio files then use "export track as audio file".

  • Need help recording three shows at the same time

I have the FiOS DVR, and have a problem this TV season.  There are 3 shows that we watch that are on at the same time.  if we are home that night, we can record two on the DVR and watch the other in another room.  Not ideal, but we can handle it.  But if we are out, we are hosed.  I have an old series 1 Tivo that I would think I could factor in here....which I could timer record on a different TV.  Any way to do it on my regular TV?  Not sure how I could hook up the Tivo with the DVR and the rest of it.
    Thanks!

I have a similar setup with a Replay.
You will need to get a Verizon Digital Adapter for $3.99 per Month and an IR Blaster for your Tivo.
Connect the Digital Adapter (DCT-700) to the FIOS Coax (May need to use a Splitter).  Connect the Composite Out cables from the DCT-700 to the Tivo.  Connect the IR Blaster from the Tivo to the front of the DCT-700.  Configure the Tivo and tell it you have FIOS Cable and Digital Adapter.  You may need to find the right codes to use to control the FIOS box from the Tivo.
Once you get it configured you will be able to tell the Tivo to record the 3rd program and it will switch the box to the channel and record it.  If the box is near your other Verizon STBs you will need to hide it or cover the IR Sensor so that the remote for the main STB does not control the Digital Adapter.
As an added bonus you can connect the Coax Out from the DCT-700 to your Main TV if it has PIP and now you have a 2nd input source to make PIP work.

  • Need Help Recording From a PC to Final Cut Pro

Ok First forgive me for my inexperience I'm a Audio Engineer trying to help out my company, because our Video Director left. I work for a Video Game Development company and we always have to record in game video for commercials and this is really becoming a pain to me. The game plays on the PC and I have to record it in small HD segments using a program called fraps because none of the 2 Gig or larger AVI files I record can be opened on the Macs, so I have to go through this crazy conversion process to actually get them to the company that makes our TV commercials. I was Wondering if any of you knew if there was a Box that would let me play the game on the PC and then connect that output to the Mac and Record it in HD directly in Final Cut Pro, and then send that Final Cut Pro Project to the Commercial company. Like using the DVI output of the PC's Video card to a box then output to firewire on the Mac or something like this? Again sorry for my lack of experience and the long post just need some help
    Thanks

Short answer yes. Longer one is you'll have to look around to find a solution that works for you. There are converters/scalers that will go DVI to video (HDMI) but then you need a capture card for the FCP system. One possible way is two Intensity cards from Blackmagic Design. Put one in each computer and connect them.

  • I need help recording on my iPad using iRig

I know that the iRig will work for Garage Band but I need to know it it can play back. Like if I were to play the recorded audio back would it come through an amp if I wanted it too. Also, on microphones that plug directly into the headphone jack there is a third ring around the 1/8in jack that is used for sending audio into the device...what is that called?! Do they make a 1/4in to 1/8in cable that has that third ring?
I would really appreciate some help. Thanks.

Nothing. They'll still play if you have flash installed on a PC. But most website developers should be migrating them to the friendlier HTML 5 video container that plays on many more devices across the board including iPhones and iPads and other mobile phones and tablets.
As far as Adobe, they just stopped development of their mobile version of Flash. (i.e  for Phones and tablets).
They themselves as a company are not going away, so their other products such as the PDF reader and Media creation suites and yes the desktop version of Flash are still going to be made.

  • I need help recording guitar

I want to use Garageband to record my guitar music. Money is not an issue. I'll buy some gear if I need to. I just don't know where to begin or what to buy. I just want to record from my acoustic electric guitar and maybe lay some rhythm tracks over the top. Mostly just guitar so I can create a archive of my compositions. Put a halfway decent sounding CD together. Any ideas? Where does one begin.

    poflynn wrote:
I use a Rode NT2000 condenser Mic and a Beyerdynamic dynamic mic. I also plug the guitar in and record 3 tracks at a time.
Out of curiosity, where do you place each mic and which Beyerdynamic do you use? (oh, and what kind of guitar do you have)?
    The Beyerdynamic is a TGX 58 http://asia-pacific.beyerdynamic.com/en/music-performance/products/microphones/v ocals-speech.html?txsbproductdatabase_pi1%5BshowUid%5D%5BshowUID%5D=3&tx_sbproductdatabasepi1%5BshowUid%5D%5BbackPID%5D=49&cHash=e15356a2b4
It was the first mic I got and its probably not the best choice. I have it as a multi purpose mic.
In terms of mic placement I am constantly tweaking. Right now the NT2000 is in front of the sound hole about 1ft-300mm away. The TGX 58 is positioned about half way between the sound hole and the head, slightly closer than the NT. I must admit though its the result of 'monkey see, monkey do.' I got the info from this site http://www.recordacousticguitar.com/ I am currently not happy though with my results. My studio room has to take a large portion of the blame. Its layout and acoustic treatment was not very well thought out, but I am not sure where to begin to correct it. Also, getting to know the mics has been hard. The NT has some adjustments available but I am afraid my 'ear' is still on the steep side of the learning curve. One thing I have noticed is the mics ability to pick up sympathetic string resonance. Its hardly noticeable when listening to the guitar live, but upon playback its maddening. My current project involves recording some of my beginner students compositions. They are single note 1st and 2nd string melodies. I have resorted to shoving a folded piece of card board under strings 3-6 simply to damped the strings. When I just plug the guitar in and record via the bridge pickup, the sympathetic humming is less than what comes from the NT. Once done I then just muck around with all three tracks with fx etc (thats another story).
I use 2 acoustic guitars with bridge pickups. My nylon string guitar is a Greg Bennett C2CE http://www.gregbennettguitars.com/c2ce.html
My steel string is a Yamaha CJ-838S II similar to this one http://www.guitar-museum.com/guitar-231-VINTAGE-YAMAHA-CJ-838S-II-ACOUSTIC-GUITA R . I have had this instrument since new in 1984. I had a pick installed when I had some fret work done and the action reworked in 1993. Its a nice guitar.
Trying to record halfway decent acoustic guitar has not been easy. I am hardly ever pleased. I don't know if I am picky or simply don't know what I am doing. Probably a combo of both. It dosn't help that I have crap monitors as well.
    Cheers. G.

  • Rookie needs help recording DJ set through M-audio Firewire 410

Ok.... ive been reading through the forums and I still can't find help...
Im running GB 3 that came with my Macbook I bought about 4 months ago.
    I am a DJ and I trying to record a DJ set/demo.
What I use to DJ is Pioneer cdj-800 x2 and a Pioneer DJM400 using Rane Serato Scratch through my Mac.
    I recently bought an M-Audio Firewire 410.
I installed all necessary drivers from m-audio's website (i bought it on ebay so it did not come with the install cd).
I connect the Maudio into the Mac as instructed and set all my inputs/outputs in prefs to the m audio.
The record out of my mixer is via rca so i bought an rca to 1/4" cable. The rca going into my mixer and the 1/4" is going into the first "mic/inst" on the interface.
I created a real instrument track on a new project in GB and set the input to channel 1 (mono).
I play a track..... no sound. nothing at all. i tried the inputs in the back of the firwire and played with the gains. still nothing. i am getting a little frustrated here as you can imagine.
I would really appreciate if someone could walk me through this or at least point me in the right direction.
    Thanks a ton in advance.

Perhaps you may need to reinstall the driver again from the M-audio website. The newest drivers don't work well but if you're running the newest OSX 10.4.10 then you have no choice but to use the newest drivers. When installing the new driver, do not have the 410 hooked up to the computer. After it is installed, shut down the computer. Hook up the 410, then turn the computer on, make sure teh 410 is power button is on as well. Once you're computer is up and running, open up the m-audio mixer application that comes with the driver. on the top right-hand corner is a reset button. Click that and a there will be a popup asking if you want to reset, say reset. Next open up system preferences and check the sound. Select the 410 for input and output. You have to also do this again in garagebands prefs. Test your audio out by playing a song through itunes or something. Hope it works.

  • Need Help Recording Programs from my DVR to my VCR

Can someone please tell to reocrd a program from DVR to my VCR without getting  all snow
    Here is my set up
    TV- Sony
    VCR/DVD- Sony  SLV-D300P
    DVR- QIP7200

How many threads do you need for the same question?  This was asked HERE and answered, but you seem incapable of taking the instructions given successfully.
Yellow from DVR Video Out to VCR Video In
White from DVR Audio Left Out to VCR Audio Left In
Red from DVR Audio Out  Right to VCR Audio Right In
The inset color of the RCA jacks (color inside the silver ring) matches the cables.
Set VCR to LINE INPUT, play the DVR recording and record on the VCR.  If that is too difficult then get Geek Squad or someone who understands how to connect components.  The connections are also shown in the DVR manual.
I have been using this exact set of connections for 2 years and it works fine.

  • Need help recording with two linked firepods and an outboard mixer

    Hi!
Well I've been using Logic for a couple of years but always stayed "in the box".
Now that I started working out of the box I encountered a strange problem. Let me explain...
Since recently I have an analog Soundcraft Ghost mixer and two firepods. I linked the two firepods (aggregate device) and recorded 16 tracks into Logic. I sent these back to the mixer through the outputs of my firepods (I used the I/O plugin on each track to get a mono output).
I made the whole mix on the mixer and now I want to record that mix back into logic (in order to have a Stereo mix ready for mastering).
I thought all I had to do was create a new stereo audio track in Logic (choose input i.e. 1-2), connect the master output from the table to input 1-2 on my firepods, set the gain on the preamps. Arm the track, hit record.
Now the problem I have is that what is recorded sounds reeeaaaally strange. It's like distorted or some kinda feedback. Bit difficult to explain. But it sure doesn't sound right at all...
Does anyone knows what the problem could be?
Could it be that with the firepods you can't use an input if you allready use it's output?
If you need any more info, let me know!
By the way, I'm working on a Macbook Pro 2,4 with osx10.5.6 and Logic Pro 8.0.2
    Greetz,
    NLS

The problem sounds like you have a feedback loop between the outputs and the input. Here's my suggestion:
1 Turn the Mixer control on the Firepods all the way to the right, to make sure the Input signal is not mixed back in to the outputs
2 Mute the stereo Input channel that you're recording on (in Logic) before you arm the Record button
3 After you have recorded your mix into Logic, disarm the Record button, un-mute and solo the channel, then play back

  • Need Help recording a narration

    Hi,
I am trying to record a narration for a slide show.   I have a Sennheiser headset with a mic.  I have a gateway tower and the green is pluged into the green and the pink into the pink at the back of the computer.  I also have music on the slide show.  I have windows vista.  I printed out the create a narration instructions but there is no voice sound,  I can hear the music.  I turn down the music or delete it and still can't hear the voice.
On the audio mixer the little bars don't move so I am asuming nothing has been recorded.
I can't seem to test the mic through windows sound hardward test wizard because i can't find it on the computer.  I go into the control panel and can't find anything that says voice.
There is only one choice on the default device menu.
I am doing something wrong here so help
    tks sarah

There are four places to look, and I'd do it in this order:
1.) the Windows Sounds control panel, that Steve mentioned. Make sure that levels are up for the proper devices and that Mute is NOT checked in any.
2.) in PE, open up the Audio Mixer in your Project and check the Master buss. Also check each Track's pot and make sure they are not lowered, or muted.
3.) check your Audio Tracks (think that it's Rt-click), and make sure that Bypass is NOT checked. Do this for all Audio Tracks
4.) look in Edit>Preferences>Audio Hardware and make sure that nothing has changed there. Then look in ASIO settings and tell us what you have set there. Hint: a screen-cap of these settings will make it easier for all to see what your choices and settings are
    Good luck,

  • Need help Recording SQL Execution Times in Database

    Hello,
I have an interesting thing I am tiring to do. I want to record how much time (Wall Clock) it took the database to execute any select statement against o one particular view lets call it CUST_ORDERS_V.
I would like to record who ran it, what the select statement was (SQL Text) and how much time it took and maybe a few other ancillary things if possible.
Looking at most of my requirements took me right to Oracle Auditing and the SYS.AUD$ table. After setting up auditing with:
    audit_trail=db,extended
    and
audit select on ME.CUST_ORDERS_V by access;I get every piece of information I need except for the execution time! Wow that would be great if Oracle recorded that!!! So I was thinking if I could. I was considering a trigger on SYS.AUD$ (I know evil thoughts) that would look into some V$ view and get the execution time and write it into some custom table with a link back to SYS.AUD$.
This might be the complete wrong way to do it. I was wondering if anyone had any ideas on this.
I am running on 11.2.0.3 EE. I am on EE so I can use Fine Grained Auditing if it is needed. However I DO NOT have the Tuning or Diagnostic Pack.

    >
    Hi again,
Yes, a complete set of times from end to end would be great. However
for now I need to stick with what is in my domain of control, the database.
Maybe after the DB I will look to get the others. But your point about the operators blaming the db brings up the probability
that after you tell them that the db is not the issue, they'll start to blame
the app server, the cabling, their OS, the browser, the tea-lady...
If you have click===> page, they have no more places to hide and have to
actually work for a living ;)
I do not think I can access v$active_session_history as I do not have the Tuning Pack.Well, presumably there is a business case for this project. Why not tell management
    that it's required?
Otherwise, you could go to ashmasters.com - a site run by Kyle Hailey (Oak Table
member and author). He has an Open Source ASH "substitute" which you might
like to try - haven't used it myself, but if Kyle Hailey's behind it, then it's at
    least worthy of investigation.

  • Need help recording with an external mic on garageband!!!

I'm a singer and i'm trying to figure out how to record vocals on garageband with an external mic that can plug into the powerbook. However, when i record it uses the internal mic instead I have no clue how to change it so it will use the external mic. Please help!!!
    Thanks,
    Stef=)

You HAVE to use a Mic that is powered! Just plugging a Mic into the Powerbook and switching the input to Line-in doesn't cause it to work.
I believe Griffin Techologies makes an adapter that will work and there are some other one out there. Google powered mics and see what comes up.

  • Need help recording midi drums

i have a roland td-4 running to LP 9.1 using XLN addictive drums. what my problem is when i try to record my performances it doesn't capture all of the note. like if i play a 16th notes it will only record 8th notes. but when i am playing i can here all of the notes. so i know it is triggering all of the sounds it just isn't recording them. i am sure it is just a setting somewhere i am missing. but i am new to the whole midi thing so i really have know clue what or where to look for it.
Thank you for any and all help it is greatly appreciated!

i am not telling it to.
Well, that you are aware of. Deselect all regions in the arrange window, and look at your region parameters (which are now "MIDI Thru" parameters. Is there a quantize value set there? if so, this quantize is being automatically applied by Logic to every MIDI region to record.
hen i record it shows all of the notes i am playing until i hit the stop button. then most of my notes disappear.
Look at the data in the event list or piano rolls editors - are you saying that not all the ntoes you play are here? Try recording one note - do you get a region with one note in it?
Record one with ten notes - count the events in the event list - are there ten events in there?
