Need help regarding "Macbook Pro Distorted Video or No Video issues"

Hi there, I'm new and I'm kinda need help or opinion from all of you Mac users.
I have a MPB which is the first generation released 2005-2006, which its 4 years back. Now, the main problem is after 4 years of non-graphic problems, I encounter the NVIDIA graphics processor problems, which make my screen scrambled and unable to click or do anything. For some reason that Apple did say they will change/replace the graphic processor for free due faulty issue of the NVIDIA. But what I wanted to know and reconfirm is, since my MPB was 1st generation and version 2005/06, will Apple cover the change/replacement NVIDIA processor for free? Because I really need to have a confirmed answer before I went to the AASP in Malaysia, which I know they will make a fuss by asking me to pay with my previous incident which my battery deflect and charger/adapter melted. So, please kindly reply this post. Thank you for you time.

Welcome to Apple Discussions!
How about printing out the Apple article about this and taking it with you?
http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2377
However, if you really do have the first MBP introduced in January 2006, it actually has a different video chip, the ATI Mobility Radeon X 1600, which unfortunately is not the NVIDIA chip covered by the NVIDIA program. So if that's what you have, you are out of luck for a free repair. ATI Mobility Radeon chips can also go bad, but there is no program that I know of that will cover them.
Sorry to not have better news for you.
Good luck!

  • I need your help regarding Macbook Pro with FCS3 via USB

Sorry for the double posting, I need your help...
I am producing an independent TV movie. We are shooting in HDV with a Sony Z5.
Currently I am using a 2007 iMac (1gb) for the FCS3. I am considering buying a Macbook Pro 15' i7, because I need the portability as well as a WD 1TB portable external drive.
Just when I am about to buy the machine I started to read all about the USB vs. the Firewire. What should I do? The MBP only have one firewire port...if I use an USB portable external drive means that I won't be able to use FCS3 properly and that buying a MBP will mean spending money in something that I won't be able to make it work properly??
    Thanks for your help!!!!

    Hi there,
As Patrick said its Firewire hubs you should avoid along with directly connecting your media drive via USB. USB hubs are fine for connecting peripherals (keyboards, tablets, mice etc). directly connecting USB media drives is not for streaming video due to their method of sending data in packets rather than as the continuous stream that firewire provides. Firewire hubs just seem to cause all sorts of headaches to those that have used them, I cant give you a specific reason other than splitting the available FW bandwidth (someone with more knowledge on this will have to chime in), its more just inherited practice.
    cheers

  • Need help on macbook pro 15

Sorry i realise i post my previous post in the wrong forum section, hence im bringing it here. Mod please delete my previous thread.
Hi this is my first time using mbp or even the whole mac system, im running on bootcamp and recently i've been buying some games like call of duty black ops and the witcher. However, i realise i was not able to run both games smoothly, for witcher, i was able to run in rather smoothly in medium settings without AA and fps would start to drop on high settings without AA. This is not much of a problem though, the real problem is with Black ops. Im running on a super low setting.
Here are my black ops graphic setting
    http://steamcommunity.com/id/jcdr91/screenshots/
    My specs are
    Processor : Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-2720QM CPU @ 2.20ghz
    Installed Memory (RAM) : 8.00gb
    Os : Window 7 Home premium 64bit
AMD raedon 6600M and 6700M series
Im no computer tech savy kind of person but i do know that the specs are not so good, but i dont think it warrants a 20-50 fps in Call of duty black ops which really makes it really hard to play. Im dissapointed that after bringing down the config so much im still facing problems like that.
I also realise when i plugged in during low battery level thats when the fps starts to drop or it will drop after a few minutes sometimes even if the battery level is high and the top left of my keyboard tends to get very hot after playing awhile. I tried enabling powerplay but im not able to enable it borrowing a picture from fellow member itsnipon

was unable to enable the powerplay.

  • Please help, my macbook pro won't boot

    Hey there, i need help
My macbook pro wont start, so after i press the power button, the apple logo will pop out with a rotating circle below the logo, and there's also a bar below, but in my case that bar will only run til almost complete (there's only about 0.1cm left) and it'll suddenly go off
I've tried to use Safe Mode boot and fsck -fy, they didn't work.
I've also tried to enter the Disk Utility and repair the hd, but it keeps on experiencing error, it says "Error: Disk Utility can't repair this disk ...." for both the TOSHIBA and Macintosh HD
From what i remember i haven't ever used the Time Machine backup before
How do i fix this without losing my files? I have bunch of important projects there and i need to finish them soon
    Please help, thank you

  • I need help identifying which Magsafe Power Adapter I need for my Macbook Pro Model A1398, EMC 2673?

I need help identifying which Magsafe Power Adapter I need for my Macbook Pro Model A1398, EMC 2673?

Provided the computer-end fits, you are free to use one with a HIGHER Wattage rating. No damage whatsoever will be done to any component, but it will likely run cooler (but may be slightly heavier).
If you use one with too LOW a Wattage rating, you will not be able to charge and run at the same time, and your computer's top speed (for its most intensive computations) will be limited.

has the video been completely downloaded onto your MacBook Pro when you start to play it? Or are you playing it while it downloads, AKA streaming it?

I just wanted to follow this up by saying that you were entirely correct in your diagnosis of the situation.  My computer did have the faulty part you linked to.  I brought my laptop in and specifically told them to run that test, had it fail and then argued with the person at the genius bar and the manager.  Eventually they offered to have it sent out and have everything replaced for free of charge.  They did so mainly because I had complained about graphical issues almost every other time I had come in with problems and no one ran the test.  They should have caught this problem during my warranty, but they didn't, even though I mentioned the problem.
Anyhow, after having the part replaced, I haven't had my computer crash a single time since, or had many of the issues mentioned above.  I've never had this experience before.  Even brand new, I got occasional crashes.  Hopefully this new trend continues.
I do find that web browsing is still incredibly slow.  Web browsers just chug along at a slow pace, even though I have great internet speed.  Maybe I'll try just deleting my web browsers and reinstalling them...
Anyhow, thank you for your help and knowledge Clinton.

  • Brand new MacBook Pro can't handle 720p Video in iMovie?

Well, my Black 2.0 GHz Core Duo MacBook has been replaced by the new 13" 2.26 Core 2 Duo MacBook Pro (I had to pay the difference) and I had it upgraded to 4GB of Ram and a 320GB Hard Drive!
I use a Kodak z1085 IS Digital Camera that records videos in 720p quality. When I import them into iMovie '09, I get this message:
This is the same thing that I got on my Core Duo MacBook. If I did not optimize the video, it would play choppy and could not keep up. On my new MacBook Pro, I still get this message saying that "my computer can't handle it." I can undersatnd my old Core Duo MacBook not being able to handle it, but when a brand new $2000 MacBook Pro can't handle 720p video, somthing has to be wrong here.
Are there cretin specs that indicate what computer can handle what? I'm guessing that this MacBook Pro CAN handle it, but why am I still getting that message? Do I need a $10,000 Mac Pro Tower system to make it happy?
Can anyone please explain this and help me out?
    Thanks,
    Scott

    +Well... for starters, the 2.26GHz MB Pro is not a $2,000 machine.+
Sorry...$1.5 thousand. Still too much for a brand machine that isn't "powerful enough" to run software that came out before the computer did.
+For all intents and purposes, it's an entry level notebook (despite the name "Pro")... with only slightly higher specifications than the white MacBook.+
So its only slightly better then the model that can only handle solitaire or any other basic application? I find it odd Apple would include iLife if these machines can't handle all of the features that they are supposed to. Pro means professional. that means this machine should be able to handle PRO applications like Final Cut, etc. But how can it if it can't even handle iMovie! Not to mention they screwed us out of using the old version...so I am stuck using this version!
+I'm not exactly sure what you mean when you say your black MacBook was replaced by a new 2.26GHz machine... but you had to pay the difference... It sounds like you were perhaps having problems with your MacBook and Apple allowed you to upgrade to the newest version paying something additional. If that's the case, it sounds like they were very generous as you had a first gen MacBook that was about three years old.+
Yes that is exactly what happened. My Black MacBook had many issues. I sent it in for repair three times and even took it to an Apple store when I was on vacation. (don't have any apple stores where I live) All of these repairs did not fix the problems and they kept on coming! So they offered to just replace it. But they don't sell the Black MacBook anymore. Only the white...and I don't like the white (thats why I bought the black!) so that is when they offered me the MacBook Pro if I paid the difference. In which I did. So that is how I got my new MacBook Pro.
+Are you saying that your video plays choppy on your new machine... or just that you get the message stating that it may play poorly?+
Both....It shows that message, and does play somewhat choppy. Not as choppy as the old MacBook though.
Like I said, I'd just like to know what Apple calls "good enough" so it doesn't display that warning.

  • I have a new macbook pro and just made a video on imovie and it asked me to put it on idvd but there is no idvd listed as an option. How can I get idvd?

I have a new macbook pro and just made a video on imovie and it asked me to put it on idvd but there is no idvd listed as an option. How can i get idvd. it doesn't seem available

Since Apple has stopped supporting and offering iDVD you'll need to purchase the iLIfe 11 disk from a 3rd party retailer like Amazon.com: iLife 11 which will include iDVD 7.

  • How much Ram do I need in a MacBook Pro for Software Engineering?

I plan to buy a new MacBook Pro in the next month for school and hopefully for work. I would like this computer to get me at least 4 years of use. I will be majoring in software engineering. My question is how much ram would I need in a Macbook Pro for software engineering? I am currenty looking at the 15" 2.3ghz base model with 8gb of ram as well as the 15" 2.4ghz base model retina. I really like the retina but its at my max budget. Will the 8gb of ram be enough since it is not upgradable? Any help will be greatly appreciated.

I am currenty looking at the 15" 2.3ghz base model with 8gb of ram
The MB Pro 15" 2.3Ghz with 8GB of RAM should do the trick.
Save your $$$ on the retina and stick to your budget

  • Help! Macbook Pro will not power up!

Hello, I have a Late 2008 15" Macbook Pro and I'm having power issues. I've been back and forth with adapters over the past couple months. My original adapter was destroyed by my dog, I bought a cheap knockoff that stopped working after a month, then bought a cheap used one from a sketchy computer store on the corner which also just stopped working.
When we were last using the MBP, it ran down to about 5%, so we shut the lid and plugged it up. We didn't go back to it for a couple of days, but when we did, there was no life. No lights on the battery indicator, no lights on the adapter. So, I assumed the adapter was dead.
I ordered a new, genuine Apple adapter from OWC and it arrived today. I plugged it in, and there is no light at all on the adapter. I do, however, get a single flashing light on the battery indicator. It's been plugged in for about 10 minutes now and that's still all I have, just a single prepetually flashing indicator light.
What does this mean? I have cleaned the connectors, reset the SMC, I've searched Apple's support pages and other message boards, but I can't find anything that helps. My battery has never been replaced, so I'm really hoping that's all I need. Please tell me this $2300 Facebook machine that I'm still making payments on isn't dead!

    Ryano70,
it sounds like trying a replacement battery is worth a shot.
