Need help REMOVING Office 2004 Test Drive

Can someone please help? I'm about to install Office 2004..... the install instructions say to FIRST remove "Office 2004 Test Drive" if it's on your computer. (Test Drive appears to be a sample of Office).
The Office Test Drive folder is on my computer.....however, I have never launched anything in it.
Per instructions, I did try to use the "Remove" program (inside the Test Drive folder).
All went well, except when "Remove" did its search, nothing showed up. Hence, when clicking "continue," I got a message that I had not removed anything.... new choices being "go back" or "quit."
Meanwhile, the Remove program DID generate a text file on my desktop "Remove Office log.txt" - which shows:
Found these items:
OFC2004TDFOLDERS: /Applications/Office 2004 for Mac Test Drive
Unfortunatley, this information does not show up in the "Remove" program, so I cannot instruct "Remove" to remove it. (which seems a bit odd, I know, but there you have it.)
QUESTION ....
Am I ignoring the obvious?
Since I have never launched anything in the "Office 2004 Test Drive" folder, might this mean that none of the apps are actually installed on this computer?
If so..... does this mean I can simply drag the entire "Test Drive" folder into the trash, empty trash, and all will be gone?
Then, safely install the actual Office 2004 CD?
iBook G4 1.42GHz PPC, 14"   Mac OS X (10.4.6)   also iBook G3 600MHz/ MacOS 10.1.5

It seems to me that when I did that I inserted the
new Office CD and using the uninstaller on the CD
removed the Test Drive.
Thanks for your help, Al.
When I insert the Office CD, I don't see an uninstaller....at least not immediately visible. All I see are 2 options:
Office Setup Assistant (recommended)
or
the Office folder which you can just drag to the hard drive to install all components.
Do you think the 'uninstaller' is in that first "Setup Assistant" option?
And if so.....what concerns me is that if it doesn't work (i.e., behaves like the "Remove" I've already tried to use)....will I still have the option of quitting, and going back and just dragging that folder to trash before continuing in the Setup Assistant?
Logic tells me that you're right....that by never having launched anything, none of the components of Office Test Drive are actually installed....no users or preferences or anything created. So probably I can just drag that folder to the trash. Problem is, I have very little faith/confidence/ that MY logic is anywhere near the same "logic" of Microsoft.
(am quite sure I fit the Apple profile....cause I definitely "think different.")
I'm wondering if the better part of wisdom might be to go ahead and trash that Test Drive folder.....then proceed with the Office Setup Assistant....and if an uninstall shows up in there, using it "just in case" anything was left behind? Sound reasonable to you?

  • Can't Remove Office 2004 Test Drive from new MBP C2D.

I received my new MBP C2D yesterday. I'm trying to remove Office 2004 Test Drive so I can install the full version. When I run the the Remove Office application it posts a log on the desktop that indicates that it located the Office 2004 Test Drive folder, but when I get to the Results page of the Remove Office application it does not show me the option to remove the folder. When I click continue it says: "You have not chosen to remove any Microsoft Office items." Has anyone else run into this problem? Is there any other way to remove the Test Drive? Please help!

I installed the office 2004 software, and at the end of the installation it will give you the option to uninstall the test drive software. Good luck.

  • New Mac Mini + Office 2004 Test Drive

Hi everyone. Not sure if this is the correct place to post this question, but I'll give it a shot...
I bought a new Mac Mini a few weeks ago. I just downloaded a Word document from my e-mail and it opened up Office 2004 Test Drive automatically... I agreed to the User Agreement, opened up my Word document, yada yada...
Now, however, it bugs me that this is trial software and I have 30 days to evaluate it. Thing is I actually own Office 2004 and just never got around to installing it on my Mac Mini yet...
So what is the proper way to install it? Do I need to remove Office Test Drive 2004 first, or do I just run the installer off the Office 2004 DVD? What are the proper steps I need to take?
    Thank you,
    Keith

    Remove MS Office Test Drive
On your hard disk, open Microsoft Office 2004 folder that contains the Test Drive. Any documents you saved in the Microsoft Office 2004 Test Drive should be moved somewhere in your documents folder.
In the Microsoft Office 2004 folder, double-click "Remove Office". In the Results window, choose Microsoft Office 2004 (including Test Drive) and then click "continue" and follow the prompts.

  • Microsoft Office 2004 Test Drive Question

    Hello all,
Please forgive me if this is the wrong forum, but I'm looking for help here... or possibly somebody has a forum elsewhere where I might ask this question:
I have recently purchased a brand new Macbook Pro.
    I installed Office 2004 (Student/Teacher Edition).
When I double-click on a document created by Word (from my PC that I transferred over), instead of my "real" Word 2004 opening the document... I get the Office 2004 Test Drive opening it...and a warning saying "I have 29 days remaining until it expires".
My question is: How can I either remove the Office 2004 Test Drive and/or get it so that my document is opened with the "real" Office, instead of the test drive?
As I said, I apologize if this is the wrong forum... but if you can please a) direct me to the correct forum or b) help me out with a link... I'd VERY much appreciate it.
    Thanks very much!
Macbook Pro   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

If you installed (used) the Trial version of Office then merely dragging the folder to the Trash won't do the trick. You will instead have to run the Office Uninstaller (in the /Office 2004/Additional Tools/Remove Office/ folder) and completely remove both the Trial and the licensed version of Office including preferences. Then reinstall your licensed version. This is the only sure way of avoiding any conflicts between the two versions.

  • How do i remove office 2004

I recently updgraded to Lion OS and relaised that my office 2004 software will now not run.  Ok, so upgrading to office 2011.
I now want to remove the office 2004 version from my imac to free up space on the hard drive, but when trying to run the remove software icon I cannot run that either due to power PC modules not being supported.  Any thoughts on how I can do this please?

Ooooh, I was all headed toward pointing out the Remove Office Tool until I saw you'd tried it. As this is a farily new issue to the Mac community, you might be better served by asking in Microsoft's Community forums here:
    Office for Mac forums
I suspect you'll need to remove Office manually and there may be some components left behind as a result, but they should not be too big. Anyway, try the MS forum--sometimes employees from their Macintosh Business Unit respond to posters. The MBU has some sharp Mac-savvy people.

  • Need Help Removing Background

I need help removing a background from a picture.  My boss wants some t-shirts made but the only image I have is one with a tie-dye background and I need it to just be the black and white that is on the image.  I have been trying for 2 weeks to do this and I can get real close but it leaves the colors around the edges and I need this gone.  Any ideas?  Anyone that can help me out?  I have the original photo and the one with almost everything removed if someone can help me fine tune the rest that would be great.

You've done all the hard work and are almost there!
Starting with your b/w rendition, duplicate the background layer, and shut off the visibility of the background layer. Work on background copy layer
Go to Enhance menu>convert to black and white>vivid landscape style
Open a blank layer between the background and background copy layers and fill this layer with white
Make the background copy layer active and use the eraser tool to clean up a few smudges on the background copy layer
Open a blank layer at the top of the stack, and press CTRL+SHIFT+ALT+E to create a stamp visible layer
With the rectangular marquee tool, make a rectangular block selection of "DRIVE-IN THEATRE" and place this on its own layer (CTRL+J). Make the blending mode multiply, then duplicate this layer 3-4 times.
For the text on the bottom, suggest that you erase this and replace the information with the type tool.

I had this problem too but you do not need UAC to be turned on.

  • I need help removing a malicious program form my mac!

Hello, I am 99% sure I accidentally acquired/downloaded a malicious program on my mac and I am new to macs and need help removing it!
I have growl and the other day it notified me that screen sharing, file sharing and web sharing were all turned on at once. As soon as I saw this I quickly got off of the internet and found out how to disable them.
Also, three programs kept requesting to access the internet and I denied them of course. Their names were: nmbd, netsessionmac1225fd0, and krb5kdc.
Like I said I am new to macs and need some help fixing this problem. So, if anyone has any ideas that would help a lot.
I already have screen sharing, file sharing, and web sharing turned off and now it requires a password to access (which i changed after i disabled them) but I want to ask some mac people if I need to do anything else, thanks!

By the way, a big thank you to everyone who has helped so far..
Here is the list of my running programs and keep in mind that I do have my firewall turned on as well as file sharing, screen sharing, and web sharing turned off so the suspect program may not be running?

  • Need help removing hard drive from Time Machine exclusion list

I have a 1TB Western Digital Essential hard drive with about 500Gb of music, movies and other assorted data tethered directly to my iMac. I also have a 1TB Time Capsule that serves as my wireless router and connects to my iMac over the wireless network. I'm trying to use the Time Capsule as the ultimate backup device, to backup the data on my iMac and the tethered 1TB Western Digital hard drive via Time Machine. It already backs up all the data on my iMac, but unfortunately, Time Machine places the 1TB Western Digital hard drive in the exclusion list (which I understand is normal), but will not let me click the minus sign to remove the drive from the exclusion list (which is where I'm at a loss). Someone please help me find a way around this as I've been unable to find a way to remove the Western Digital drive from the exclusion list and have Time Capsule access its data. Many thanks in advance for any help with this.

    gotham,
Forgive me, but are you highlighting the drive in the list before you click the "-" button?
Also, were is the external drive? Connected to your Mac or the TC. If the TC, then Time Machine won't backup the external drive. It needs to be connected to the Mac directly.
Otherwise, you can delete the TM .plist.
*Delete The Time Machine Preference .plist*
Go to --> Macintosh HD / Library / Preferences (Note: NOT Home / Library / Preferences).
    Drag the .plist file labeled,
    com.apple.TimeMachine.plist
to the root level of your Macs’ hard drive.
    Reboot your computer.
This .plist file is automatically recreated at startup if it is missing.
You will need to reselect your Time Capsule in the TM Prefs for backup.
Now try 'removing' the other drive form the exclusion list.
Let us know if this helped resolve your issue.
    Cheers!

  • TS3938 I am not interested in updated software from MS. Is there another solution to removing Office 2004 completely?

Just upgraded to Lion and realize that MS Office 2004 is no longer supported. I am okay with that and not interested in a compatible version.
I went to use "uninstall"  and because Power PC apps are no longer supported this function does not work either.
Is there a way to remove it completely without upgrading?

  • Need help recovering files form external drive!

Well, I made a stupid mistake this morning. I am used to the Windows style of copying where if you have folders with the same name and it asks if you want to overwrite the folder, it typically merges the contents.
Apparently in OSX, when you overwrite a folder, it removes the content from the previous folder and proceeds to copy the folder..
So I went to backup from my laptops drive to my external and I copied the folder and it asked about the overwrite and I said okay and instantly had the thought that it was a bad idea and stopped it after only two images and the drive works perfectly fine, just missing a lot of images.
So how can I recover these images? I haven't used the drive since to ensure that I didn't overwrite the files... What recover software do you recommend for OSX? Especially looking for a free solution.. I don't have $80 to plop down on a more conventional program. Also, are there programs that can place the images in the folders they came from? Would take a while to try and restore my folder structure as well...
I did try the program PhotoRec that is free and open-source but it searches the whole drive and can't focus only on deleted files with the HFS+ file structures, which means there will be TONS and TONS of images that it 'recovers' that are already just fine on the drive.
Any help is GREATLY appreciated! I 'lost' nearly the whole years pictures. But I know they are all still there.
Thank you, thank you, thank you...
    - KS

There isn't a free solution for data recovery, and even the commercial solutions may not be able to recover all the files, since you had already started writing to the drive.
More importantly, you said you deleted files from your backup drive, right? So, if it's a backup, don't you still have copies of those files elsewhere? If you don't, you need to quit thinking of this drive as a backup, because it isn't a backup if it contains the only copies of the images on it.

  • Hi, i need help removing a program

in my thinkpad x40.......The problem is my belkin wireless router keeps going off line because there is a program i was told i needed to remove by a tech support......The the program he said to remove was think vantage access connection.....There is no program called that in there.......I dont know alot about computers and i dont want to pay for this so info i thought maybe someone here could help me.......The bio says this think pad is a 2004.......I would be so grateful if someone could help me!Thank you!....Debbie

start, control panel, add or remove programs.  if you have access connections, it should be listed in there and you can uninstall it from there.  after it's gone, reboot, then windows "should" detect your wireless networks.  if it doesn't, post back.
