Need help removing Snow Leopard and Installing Leopard

Snow Leopard was a waste of time and money. Time I could have used for much more productive work.
How can I remove snow leopard and reinstall leopard. I have the installation disc for Leopard. Can I simply install it over the top of snow leopard?
That would solve my problem for one machine (the iMac) but how do I go back to leopard if I don't have the disk? I suppose there is dmg somewhere but I haven't looked so I apologize in advance if the answer is obvious.

Insert leopard install disk-select install.
It will wipe the drive and install Leopard-all data will be gone.
You must have a legitimate, legal copy of leopard.
If you backed up the leopard dvd, you would have to burn it or figure a way to do a network install.

There's your problem then. You can't use a disc from another model of Mac - they're specific to each model.
You'll need to buy the Snow Leopard retail disc from the online Apple Store. It's the only one that will work.

  • Need Help Restoring Snow Leopard from Windows 7

Hello, My Kid Cousin Installed Windows 7 On My mac and formated/deleted everything from the hdd. Luckily i still have my timemachine backups on a external hdd. I was wondering how do i go about reinstalling Snow Leapord on My Mac Pro? I'm running Windows 7 on it now. Thank You

Insert the Snow Leopard install DVD into the DVD drive and reboot the system. Hold down the c key or the Option key and then select the DVD disc as the startup option or with the C key it should boot to the DVD Snow Leopard Install disc. Repartition the drive using Disk Utility as One partition with a format of Mac Extended (Journlaed) with a partition table of GUID and name the drive Macintosh HD. Then click Apply. After that is done exit DU and select Retore from Time Machine Backup (Have the TM drive connected before you Reboot the system) after a period of time SL and all your stuff will be restored.

  • Need help buying Snow Leopard.

Hi. I'm new to Apple in the sense of iPhone, iPad but only Windows on PC. Now, however, I want to swap over to Apple completely but the Apple site won't let me buy any OS's. Very confusing.

@mende1, that is 100% incorrect. I personally know someone who has a dual-boot sustem with Snow Leopard & Windows 7 on the same HDD so it is possible to do it. He's a professional DJ who uses Mac for work & Windows for games.
And call? I thought the who idea of online was so I didn't have to get stuck talking with an idiot who calls themselves a "Genius"?!

  • Need help with Snow Leopard compatibility issue

We have a new iMac in (with Snow Leopard) and have loaded all our programs. Due to budgets, we have not made the jump to CS4 and are still on CS3 (waiting for 5). We work in an InDesign/InCopy workflow.
In launching InDesign on the MAc with Snow Leopard, we have noticed that the assignment folders are nonexistant and within the program you can't even open an assignment window. When you reopen on a system without Snow Leopard, the individual assignments are there, but the program states it can't find the main assignment, so it's cancelling out the assignments if opened on the Snow Leopard unit.
Does anyone have any info on compatibility issues with Indesign CS3 and Snow Leopard? My tech guy found nothing on this before we ordered the new system.

First things first. CS5 was announced today and preorders are being accepted.
I believe if you upgrade to CS4 you'll get a free copy of CS5. This is important because if you're upgrading a suite, tiered pricing makes CS3 to CS4 $200 less than waiting til CS5 comes out.
That out of the way, is everyone fully patched to CS3 5.0.4? Is Snow Leopard fully updated to 10.6.3? Do you have full read/write permission on the server?

  • Need help with frozen Archive and Install

I'm trying to run an archive and install for my intel iMac, OS 10.4.11. I get through the first disk fine, but after I put in the 2nd install disk, it gets all the way to the "finishing installation" and then won't move past "running GarageBand Demo Songs Installer Script". it says less than a minute remaining, and the downloading bar is swirling, but there is nothing happening and it hangs here for hours. I've tried restarting, but it will only ask me to load the 2nd disk again, and the same thing happens over and over. Apple even sent me a new install disk 2, and the same thing happened, so I know it's not the disk. Is there a way to push past this?
I did a disk utility repair and it said everything was fine.
WZZZ suggested a custom installation, but I haven't tried it yet because I'm worried I might lose the data on my hard drive. (Stupidly) none of it is backed up. Any advice? Do you think I'll lose my data if I force it start over with disk 1 and do a custom install?
If not, is that the best thing to do?

Hi there, WZZZ is one sharp guy, go for it, (known him since he was knee high to a Grasshopper!
Do you think I'll lose my data if I force it start over with disk 1 and do a custom install?
At worst we should maybe only have complications with several Previous System Folders, but after forcing shutdown reboot do what WZZZ pointed to...
    "Try Disk Utility
    1. Insert the Mac OS X Install disc, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
    2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
*Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.*
    3. Click the First Aid tab.
    4. Select your Mac OS X volume.
    5. Click Repair. Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk."

That second Disk thing happens frequently, the best way around it is to do a Custom install, and eliminate enough Printer Drivers, Languages, Fonts, and Applications you don't need... then it may skip #2 altogether.

You have a Retina MacBook Pro, it runs OS X 10.7 or 10.8.
It won't run Snow Leopard (10.6) and Rosetta is only for Snow Leopard to run older PowerPC processor based programs when Mac's used to have those instead of the Intel processors they all have now.
So that software your installing is incredibly old, if you bought it, return it for a refund.
Also you don't need a anti-virus for OS X, Apple installed one for all OS X 10.6.8-10.8 users.
If you need anti-virus to clean the Windows files of their malware before passing it on, then the free ClamXav does the job.

  • Help deinstalling Snow leopard and going back to Tiger OSX10.4.11

I have just reinstalled Tiger OSX 10.4.11 on my IMac as snow leopard made my machine to slow and crash too often. Now that I have, I cannot seem to open Iphoto. I know my photos of in the memory as I can see them on the previous system file. But I cannot open Iphoto? Can anyone help me with this please?

Hi twosparks, and a warm welcome to the forums!
Could be many things, we should start with this...

    4. Select your Mac OS X volume.
    5. Click Repair. Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk."
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106214
Then try a Safe Boot, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, reboot when it completes.
(Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive.)
If perchance you can't find your install Disc, at least try it from the Safe Boot part onward.
The usual reason why updates fail or mess things up, is if Permissions are not fixed before & after every update, with a reboot... you may get a partial update when the installer finds it doesn't have Permissions to change one obscure little part of the OS, leaving you with a mix of OS versions. (Well, the Installer actually uses superuser Permissions to do it's work, but after reboot it doesn't guarantee communication with other existing needed files Permissions.)
Some people get away without Repairing Permissions for years, some for only days.
If Permissions are wrong before applying an update, you could get mixed OS versions, if Directory is the slightest messed up, who knows!
If many Permission are repaired, or any Directory errors are found, you may need to re-apply some the latest/biggest updates.
May even need to do an Archive and Install if you have room on the HD, but saves all your files and gives a new OS...
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=107120
I only use Software Update to see what is needed, then get them for real via...
    http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/
That way I can wait a week or so, check the forums for potential problems, and get Permissions & such in order before installing.
If all the above fails, then it appears to be time for a relatively painless Archive & Install, which gives you a new/old OS, but can preserve all your files, pics, music, settings, etc., as long as you have plenty of free disk space and no Disk corruption, and is relatively quick & painless...
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=107120
Just be sure to select Preserve Users & Settings.

  • How do I remove Snow Leopard and reinstall Panther?

How do I remove Snow Leopard 10.6.2 from my G5 and reinstall Panther 10.3? My G5 only came with 10.3 CD and I can't start up from that. I would like to eventually get to 10.5 Leopard but don't have a CD/DVD of that either. Is there somewhere I can download the software?
I use Adobe CS3 designer software for my business. It's been crashing since I updated to Snow Leopard. I thought I could go back down in OS's but for some reason I can't start up from the 10.3 CD.
    Any idea's are much appreciated.

First, You will need your original Panther install DVD to return to Panther. Before doing so, I would make a bootable clone of my Sno boot volume on an external drive for purposes of backup, possible migration, and fail-safe--even if you have a TM backup. Your only probably trouble-free way of returning to Panther is erase and install. Before you do so, check the compatibility of your hardware and software; check [here|http://snowleopard.wikidot.com/forum:start] and [here|http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3258].
Given that you have dealt with any compatibility issues, your only problem should be migrating from your clone in a way that avoids your Sno problems. In this regard, you generally can drag and drop you data files from Sno without issue (see links below--use Preferential Treatment before migrating anything and the by-hand migration guide to accomplish your migration). I would reinstall my apps by hand. I would not migrate your users or settings. The remaining issue is dealing with the remaining contents of your user folder(s).
I would acquire [Preferential Treatment|http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/22790] and use this app to fix the your user preferences--the items in your User/Library/Preferences folder(s). After doing so, use [this guide|http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=6185507] to do the actual migration of the items in your user folder(s).
After reinstalling Panther, you will need to install Leopard. But note that upgrade disk to Leopard are difficult to find and, especially, at a reasonable price. You may need to buy a box set.
If you decide to make the move, then, in your case, I suggest that you do an upgrade install. If you do an upgrade, then, after installing, all you file, setting, users, and apps will be in their proper places, except for incompatible apps which will be archived in the Incompatible Applications folder. Upgrading is a very sound method.
I would not upgrade to Leo using any method unless, again, I had an external drive with a bootable clone of my internal-drive boot volume (this time a Panther clone) on it. I think that there is enough risk upgrading to Leopard that such conservatism is warranted. I would not use time machine for an installation backup; I don't trust it enough.
If you do not like Leopard or get a bad install, then you can restore your internal back to Panther using the clone, and nothing will be lost. In doing an upgrade install, the clone is your data backup and fail-safe device. In both cases, you can clone with Disk Utility, SuperDuper, or Carbon Copy Cloner. If you like the idea of cloning for a backup, etc., then I would acquire one of the last two mentioned programs.

I plan on keeping the iMac and PB until they cease to work ( have replaced HD's on both already).  I mostly use the PB-- lots of writing, surfing, email, etc.
    Your thoughts?

The minimum Mac specs (from http://www.apple.com/ipad/specs/) are :
Mac computer with USB 2.0 port
Mac OS X v10.5.8 or later
iTunes 10.2 or later recommended (free download from www.itunes.com/download)
    iTunes Store account
    Internet access
So you only need Leopard, not Snow Leopard

If your profile is correct you're already on the final version of Snow Leopard (10.6.8). Sure it wasn't Lion it was asking for?
If that's the only version available on the app store, you'll need to source a copy of the iWork '09 DVD - not cheap now - only available via Amazon or eBay etc.
