Need help seeing my AirPort Disk

Hi there... I live in an apartment that has 5 ethernet ports built into the wall (new building). In my utility closet I see a hub/router. Each unit is like mine (pre-wired) and internet is included as part of the homeowner associate fee. I am assuming that our internet is something like a LAN setup with each unit being its own little "network"...
That being said I have the new AirPort Extreme plugged into one of these ethernet ports on the wall with a USB hub connected to the back connecting my laser printer and external usb hdd to share via my AirPort Extreme. Any computer that connects wirelessly can see the usb hdd.
In my bedroom I have my mac mini which connects to the internet via one of the ethernet ports (not via airport as it is not new enough to have the N speed adapter). I cannot see the usb hdd when connected via an ethernet port. How can I change this?
Thank you,
Keith

Is your MacMini plugged into the Wall, or into the Airport Extreme? If your Airport Extreme is plugged into the wall in a separate room, and you'r MacMini is plugged into the wall in another room, Bridge mode isn't going to help you, because in order for you to connect to the USB Hard Drive, you have to connect to the Airport Extreme, rather it be wirelessly or hardwired.
What you have to do is put the Airport Extreme between your MacMini and the Wall. Plug the Airport Extreme into the Ethernet Port that's in the same room that your MacMini is in. Then plug the MacMini into one of the Ports on the Airport Extreme. You should then be able to share that USB Hard Drive with your MacMini and others connecting to it.
It does defeat the purpose, since you can plug your USB Drive directly into the MacMini. But that will work.
Unlike the Express, the Airport Extreme can't be configured as a CLIENT, only a Bridge or a DHCP Server. If it could be configured as a client, then you can place it in another room, and then access the USB Drive. Maybe Apple has an update in the works for that. Who knows...
Hope that helps,
AL

  • Need help to reformat the disk drive

    Hi Guys,
I have a Powerbook G4 and I am trying to reformat my hard drive to be case insensitive instead of sensitive. The only problem is I don't have my installation disks. Is there any way i can reformat it without the disks? And if I do need a c.d. rom where can I get one?
    Need help!!!
    Thanks

    Just to be sure . . .
You are aware that reformatting will erase the drive, right?
So if you want to keep any data, you'll have to figure out how?

  • I need help getting my Airport Extreme to connect to the internet

    Hello everyone,
I need some help setting up my AirPort Extreme. I'm trying to reestablish the express after a couple years of not using it. When I've set it up in the past, I've always had a hard time, and by accident it seems, I click something or turn something on and off, and I get it to work.
I have  a 802.11g second generation airport extreme. I'm able to connect to my network and I can move files back and forth from the laptop to the desktop, and vise versa.
I have a MacPro 2007, ethernet cable connected to my Linksys router, with two internal hard drives. One has OSX 10.5.8, AirPort Utility 5.6.1, and everything is up to date. The other has OSX 10.6.8, AirPort Utility 5.6.1. I also have a MacBookPro 2011, It came with Snow Leopard installed and I upgraded  it to OSX 10.7.4. I installed AirPort Utility 5.6.1.
All three systems can see and connect to my network, but will not connect to the internet.  The extreme's IP starts with 169.254.xxx.xxx, and there's an exclamation point on the wi-fi icon.
The set up I have now is a Westell DSL modem from Verizon. I have the ethernet cable from the DSL modem connected to the WAN port of the express and the other cable going from the ethernet port from the extreme to the ethernet port of my Linksys router 4 port switch, model #BEFSR41 V.3. I have reversed the connection to and from the extreme with the same result.
This is what I've done so far with no luck:
    • Unplugged the DSL modem, Linksys router, and the extreme for about twenty minutes.
    • Updated the Linksys firmware.
    • I have reset the extreme from the back and thru the AirPort Utility many, many times.
    • I've done a hard reset. I don't know if it worked. After the extreme powered back up, my network's name and settings were still the same. On a positive note, I'm now able to get on the web when I set the connection sharing to "Distribute a range of IP addresses" using the ethernet on my desktop. Before, I was only able to do so when the connection sharing in AirPort Utility  was set to "Off (Bridge Mode)".
    Any other Ideas?
As always, your help is always appreciated,
    Rick

    Hi Tesserax,
Thanks for getting back to me.
Sorry about the confusion. My goal is to get online wirelessly with my MacBook Pro and be able to use the ethernet connection for my MacPro.
My DSL modem is a Westell WireSpeed model A90-210015-04, the Linksys router, and the AirPort Extreme.

  • Need Help with Multiple Airport Setup

    I have the following hardware:
2- Airport Extreme (Simultaneous Dual-Band II)
1- Airport Extreme 802.11n (Fast Ethernet)
    2- Airport Express 802.11n
Microcom EZ-BR2 802.11b/g Bridge Kit (the routers see this as just an ethernet cable connecting the two points)
Extras (old Airport Extreme Dome, Old Airport Express, D-Link DIR625)
I am host at a camp and retreat facility in a national forest. We have a satellite connection in our ball field on one end of the campus. The satellite line goes into a recreation building with the modem and Airport Extreme 802.11n (Fast Ethernet) router. The Microcom EZ-BR2 is plugged in to this on one end and connects to one of the Airport Extreme (Simultaneous Dual-Band II)'s in our main building office 800 feet away. The router in the office is set up as the main router for the wireless network, our Ooma phone & network printer are plugged in here. There is one Airport Express in this building giving internet access to a Power Mac G4 & old iMac. Up to this point everything works fine. My house is across the road from the office and has a pretty strong signal from the office router. I tried hooking up the other Airport Extreme (Simultaneous Dual-Band II) at home. If I set it up to extend the network the wireless works, but the Ethernet ports do not. If I set it up in bridge mode, the ethernet ports work but it doesn't extend the network, so I put the other Airport Express in bridge mode first to get internet in to the Extreme then made a new network for the house, If I keep it all the same network my Apple TV doesn't really work, with a second network our iphones and misc. devices keep getting kicked off the network "IP not valid", so I have to keep powering down to get everything working again. How should I set this up?

My house is across the road from the office and has a pretty strong signal from the office router. I tried hooking up the other Airport Extreme (Simultaneous Dual-Band II) at home. If I set it up to extend the network the wireless works, but the Ethernet ports do not.
To have the Ethernet port active, you would have to configure both the AEBSn in the office and the one you have in your house as an extended network ... with the office AEBSn configured for "Allow this network to be extended" and the house AEBSn configured for "Extend a wireless network."
The key here is that (most likely) you will not be able to extend the 5 GHz radio and possibly not the 2.4 GHz radio due to the range between the AirPorts. The higher frequency network typically has a usable range of 50-75 feet; the 2.4 GHz network, 100-150 feet. By "usable," I mean with sufficient bandwidth to be worth it.
You can test this by measuring the Signal & Noise values and calculating the resultant Signal-to-Noise Ratio (SNR). You will want the house AEBSn within a 25+dB range of the one in the office.
Let me know if you need further assistance on how to take these measurements.

  • TS1424 I need help, see there is this Digital Booklet that is supposed to be included with the purchase of an album but i still for some odd reason haven't and can't get it, what is going on?!?!

    Details:
Album: We Can Make The World Stop (by: The Glitch Mob)
Songs: I bought all three songs in the album which counts as buying the album yet the Digital Booklet won't download like it says it should due to the album being bought which is what I did.
Digital Booklet - We Can Make The World Stop - EP
Question: Can someone please help me get this digital booklet that i should have already had a while ago?

Thinking back to when I've seen displays of newsprint that's been greatly magnified, being able to see the halftone screen pattern seems important.  It gives the display a look of authenticity.
You say the library can scan at 600 ppi.  If that's 600 ppi of a greatly reduced image on a piece of microfiche, it may not give you the resolution you're looking for, and it's entirely possible that getting a quality optical print then scanning it would give you better.
I don't see how you can plan how to proceed in anything like specific detail if you don't have an image that represents what you're really going to be starting with in detail.  Perhaps getting one scan might be a good idea.
After that, you just need to figure out what ppi your final overall panel design is going to be at, and upsample the newspaper clippings to match, so that they're the size you need them to be.

  • Need helps on weak airport extreme signal

Please bear with me - as I posted here twice
I really need a help, get very tired with this airport extreme card with my brand new Mac Pro.
I bought the machine with bluetooth installed (confirmed that the BT wire connecting with the bluetooth card) and working just fine. I bought the airport extreme card and installed by the shop (there is no apple shop in HK). The IT guy connected only the wire 1 to the card, I questioned whether he needed to connect cables of 1 and 2 together, and he confirmed that only 1 was needed.
Brought the machine home and set up with WiFi with my apple extreme and time capsule (both N), the signal showed a level 4 signal (strongest) but after a minute it dropped to 1 even disappeared despite I placed the time capsule just next to my Mac Pro.
Open the case and connect the cable 2, but it did not show any improvement. Tried the 2 & 3 together - even worst.
Is that a common problem and can't be solved, if so, if I connected the time capsule with Mac Pro via ethernet, would it works? I had tried it but did not work, do I need to do some special setting on time capsule for this connection (Airport extreme (modem) -> time capsule -> Mac Pro (via ethernet)

Have a check of the wiring with the following link
    http://web.mac.com/ryemac3/RyeMAC3/Welcome/Entries/2008/4/17Airport_ExpressUpgrade.html
but make sure wire no.3 on top and wire no.1 at the bottom ... cover the wire no.2 with the plastic tube that it came with

  • Need Help with extending Airport Extreme w/802.11n

I would like to find a way, if there is one, to extend the coverage of my Airport Extreme w/802.11n. My object is to be able to share my home network with a 2nd house on my property which is approx. 90-100' away from main house and Airport Extreme w/802.11n base station. This home base station is connected to my iMac and I would like to extend it to allow my Dell PC w/ Win XP in 2nd house to connect to the internet/share files/share printer.
Is this possible and what would I need on the PC side to accomplish this wirelessly?
Thank You in advance for your help.
    Daniel

Is the 2nd house on a the same electrical box as the main house? If it's the same, then you can try the powerline ethernet solution.
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16833122168
You will find it cheaper than most outdoor point-to-point bridge solutions.

  • Need help properly formating hard disk. hard disk model wd7500bpvt says no bootable drive.

bought this hard disk new from hp about 3 or 4 months ago.  hard disk was not recognized by the laptop.  i download app from hp to do low level format on hard disk.  Then i formated the drive during windows vista installation.  Upon completion of windows installation the drive will not boot up on its own.  what can i do to fix this?

The odd 400MB is the hidden files put there by the system to define the file structure of the partition, plus other stuff like .Trash. It's perfectly normal and the HDD wouldn't be recognised if they weren't there.
You will see a similar situation with the internal boot drive if you compare the Drive size (leftmost item with the manufacturers designation) and that of Macintosh HD (which is the working partition). In my case this shows 640.14 GB for the drive, 639.79 GB for Macintosh HD, a difference of 350MB
This will be the same within about ± 50MB whatever drive you format in HFS+J, including pen drives.

  • Need help setting up airport express as bridge (Any help is appreciated)

Hello so before my wifi was switched I was able to use my 802.11g airport express as a wifi card for the xbox 360. I then decided to upgrade my main base station from an 802.11g base station to and airport extreme 802.11n. My problem is that my airport express cant extend the airport extreme network to my xbox anymore because they are different 802.11 versions. So can anyone help me configure this so I can get this back? Any help is appreciated.
    My Current Setup:
Internet => Airport Extreme 802.11n => Wireless => Airport Express 802.11g (to extend network for xbox)=> Ethernet => Xbox 360
    Thanks!

As I said, WDS is a nightmare for most users. Apple hides the settings from users to discourage use of WDS.
I do not recommend that you do this, but have a feeling that you will do this anyway.
I will not be able to help you sort out WDS problems.
On AirPort Utility 5.6, click Manual Setup
Click the Wireless tab below the icons
Hold down the option key on your Mac while you click on the Wireless Mode selection box and the WDS settings will appear
Apple's instructions for WDS are here:

    Hope this helps. Good luck.

  • I need help setting up airport express to play my Itunes music to my stereo

Hello I am hoping someone can help me as I am at a total loss here. I have had an airport express for a few years and would stream my music to my stereo without any problems. A few months ago it would cut out every now and again but soon it got so bad it was unlistenable. I reset it many times  but to no avail.
Now when I try to reset it by opening the airport utility it scans but does not find the airport express.
I bought a pluglink ethernet adapter and connected it to the Airport Express  hoping I can run it through that but when I open up the airport utility it scans but still will not recognize the airport express.
Is there some way to set this up .
I have an IMac which has the latest operating system.
Sincerely grateful for any help in this matter  Paul K.

Hello blakemj. Welcome to the Apple Discussions!
For your described network configuration, you will want to reconfigure your 802.11n AirPort Express Base Station (AXn) as a "wireless client" to the Buffalo wireless router.
    Here's how ...
Either connect to the AX's wireless network or connect directly, using an Ethernet cable, to the Ethernet port of the AX, and then using the AirPort Utility in "Manual Setup" mode, make the following changes:
(Note: As a third option, you can temporarily connect the AXn directly to an available LAN port on your Buffalo wireless router during setup, and then, place it at the desired location when complete.)
    AirPort > Base Station
o Base Station Name: <rename or leave default>
    o Base Station Password: <enter desired password>
    o Verify Password: <re-enter desired password>
o Remember this password in my keychain: (optional)
    o Set time automatically: (unchecked)
    AirPort > Wireless
o Wireless Mode: Join a wireless network
    o Network Name: <existing Buffalo's wireless network>
o Wireless Security: <select the encryption type of the existing wireless network>
o Wireless Password: <enter the existing wireless network password>
o Verify Password: <re-enter the existing wireless network password>
    Music
    o Enable AirTunes (checked)
o iTunes Speaker Name: <enter desired speaker name>
    o iTunes Speaker Password: (optional)
    o Verify Password: (optional)
o Click Update to write the new settings to the AX
    In iTunes:
    iTunes > Preferences... > Advanced > General
o Look for remote speakers connected with AirTunes (checked)

In elements 11, how do I manage to burn a disk?

When I complete a folder of photos, I like to burn them to disk. I have found that Picasa (Free from Google), let's me burn a disk with a slide show included. Learning a Mac is a new thing for me. Things are just a little different. Jumping from Elements 6 to 11 is fun to learn. Without the organizer is tough.

  • Need help setting up Airport Express A1084 in Windows 7 via Netgear WNDR4500 wireless router

Hello All. I bought a used Airport Express A1084 off the net. Never had one before. My intention is to remotely control (via my iPhone using Apples Remote app or possibly XBMC) a "pc with music" and stream thru the AE connected to a boombox. I want to be able to take AE and boombox to the front yard, back yard, garage, or wherever my Netgear WNDR4500 will reach.
So far I have hit the reset on the AE and while holding, plugged it in to power (still holding) until the green light blinked. I let it go. Waited for it to complete booting (slow blinking yellow/amber light). The AE did not show up in Airport Utility ver 5.6.1. I uninstalled that version and installed older Airport Utility ver 5.4.2. Same results. I power cycled the router, turned off the Norton 365 firewall, and still get nothing. At one point though, I walked away for a while (an hour or so), came back and saw the AE listed in the left window pane of Airport Utility. I thought maybe I just didn't wait long enough so I clicked Manual Setup and it started to read the AE but Errored 10057. I tried again and got same error. I refreshed and the AE was gone.
Can someone tell me how to correct this so I can confirm I didn't buy a "brick"?
    Thanks in advance,
    Tom

Just so you are aware, the A1084 AirPort Express is a 802.11b/g wireless router that can only operate on the 2.4 GHz band. Regardless, it can be configured to join the wireless network provided by the Netgear as long as that network is configured to be backwards compatible with 802.11g clients. However, in the long run for performance, you do NOT want any non-"n" wireless clients connecting to your Netgear's network.
The 5.6.1 version of the AirPort Utility for Windows does not support the non-"n" version of the AirPort base stations. You would need to use an earlier version that will still run on Windows 7.
One thing to try would be to temporarily connect the Express directly to your PC using an Ethernet cable, and then, try accessing it with the AirPort Utility. If you are still unable to do so, you may have gotten yourself a defective unit.

  • I'm new, please bear with me,  I need help with connecting Airport extreme

I have been using a Dell desktop pc, running Windows XP for the past few years. I have a dsl modem, (qwest m1000)hooked up for my internet acces. Just bought a new MacPro laptop and the airport extreme. Can I connect the new router to my dsl mdem and have both my desktop and my laptop connect to the internet? If so, how do I do this? thanks for your help!

Welcome to the Mac side twoo.
Airport Utility is the program you'll use to connect to and set up your Extreme. What you want to do is pretty straightforward. Airport Utility will take you by the hand in setting it up.
Power down the DSL modem before you connect it to your Extreme for the first time.
