Need help setting up Raid 0

I just got my 875P Neo and am trying to install my two Seagate 120 SATA drives. I'm not sure if Im supposed to plug them into SER1 and SER2 or do I connect them to SER3 and SER4 for the Promise controller. I want a Raid 0 configuration but I cant seem to get into the Raid Config Utility. If I hit the Ctrl-I when prompted on SER1 and 2 it does nothing....if I hit the Ctrl-F on SER3 and 4 It does nothing. I assume I have a setting or 2 off in the bios.  It sees the 2 drives but wont allow me to configure t hem. Can anyone enlighten me before I go nuts?  ?(

Ok, Ive talked to tech support and have gotten as far as seeing the hit Ctrl-I, when I do hit Ctrl-I nothing happens...I either hang and never enter the raid setup screen or it goes right by it to looking for a boot disk. It shows the 2 drives and their size but Im not able to setup the drives. Tech support suggested I flash the bios and emailed me the newest version. THe only problem is the instructions tell you to not flash the bios from the A drive and this is a new sysytem with no hard drives for me to copy the flash upgrade to....Man I have a headache  ;(

  • Z68 G3 - Need help setting up RAID + Smart Response please.

Ok, this is the first time I am going to be setting up RAID. I have two new 64 GB SSD's hooked up to SATA 1-2 (The first 2 white SATA 6.0). I go into BIOS, and I set the settings to RAID, and then I enable SATA 1 + 2. I save and reset, and during the post, I press ctrl I. I see the raid settings with the raid devices... like its going to go into RAID set up; however, it then shows the logo screen for msi m/b and then goes to command and does nothing after that.
What am I doing wrong? Do I need to install the controller drives via floppy drive? Bad thing is I don't have a floppy drive, but I can buy one. Is there any way to install the controller with out the floppy? Can it be done via USB?
I just built this new system today, so I am very anxious to get it up and running, so please reply fast hehe Im waiting =D

Never mind, I wasn't pressure Ctrl I correctly

  • Need help setting up Raid HD with 10.5?

I have a 2tb external HD, my G5 sees it as a 1x2TB (not 2x1TB), I am running out of space and I was thinking about getting another 2TB HD.
Is there a way, using Leopard, to mount the two drive as one 4TB?
    Thanks
    Fred

    Hi Fred,
    1. Test and verify your 2TB clone. If at all, clone the clone to somewhere else.
    2. Connect the new 2TB drive, erase it and the other 2TB drive (thus both drives you want to use to create your "main" 4TB drive) in Disk Utility.
    3. Create a striped array. From the DU helpfile:
Select one of the disks that you want in the set, and click RAID.
Click Add , and type a name for the RAID set.
Choose a format from the Volume Format pop-up menu.
Choose Striped RAID Set from the RAID Type pop-up menu.
Drag the disks you want to use in the set to the list on the right.
Click the Options button to specify an optimal block size for the data stored on the set.
Set the block size to match the size of data stored on the set. For example, a database might store small units of data, so a small block size might be best. A video processing application might require fast throughput of large amounts of data, so a larger block size might be best.
    Click Create.
    4. Clone over from the 2TB clone to the new 4TB array.
    5. Repeate steps 2 and 3 to create the 4TB "clone" drive.
    6. Clone back from the "main" 4TB drive to the new 4TB clone array.
You will find lots of info in the DU helpfile on RAID options. There's also a good article on Wikipedia (search for RAID). Plus loads of posts here (do a "site:discussions.apple.com" search on Google).

  • 790fx-gd70 need help setting up RAID 0

I can't get Windows XP to install in Raid0. I set up what appears to be a valid array and windows setup locks up every time. Tried installing on single HDD and everything works fine. Can anyone tell me which 2 SATA ports would be the best to use for the RAID array? Also what should the settings be in the BIOS? I'm also assuming that having 2 SATA DVD burners hooked should not be causing a conflict?

Some more input would be nice, about what your system looks like.
If it locks up without saying "media" or "disk" not found, the problem may very well lie elsewhere.
But you will be angry if your question isn't answered:

  • Newb Needs Help Setting Up RAID 0

Hi, I am a newb and this is my first post.  I just bought 2 80 gig Maxtor uata/133 drives and plan on putting them in a RAID 0 configuration.  I have the K8T-Neo FIS2R motherboard.  Would I have to put them in a master and slave configuration on one ide cable connecting to the ide3 slot?  Will that work or is the ide3 for a SATA-ide RAID config?

    No, u were correct.
    Make 1 master, 1 slave
    Attach em to IDE3
Activate Promise Raid controller in BIOS
Set up a raid array in the Promise RAID setup that comes by at post
    That's it.
Keep the floppy with the promise drivers at hand while installing XP, if u want to set it as ur boot device.
Best is to set it up first get everything working, be4 reinstalling, to rule out possible errors, while still having a working computer

Any devices connected to the same icloud account can sync all the data on that account.  For this reason an icloud account is really for a single user.
On a mac, if each user has their own account, then the itunes for that mac account should be set up to connect to that user's icloud account (System preferences>icloud).

  • Need help in creating RAID 5

    Hi everyone,
i'm fairly new to RAID scene and i need help for creating RAID 5 with 8 disk's.
    I have HP ProLiant DL380 G6 with 8 disk's, each 500 GB.
i'm trying to create RAID 5 and to have one spare disk. I have made array from 7 disk and then create logical drive.
the last disk (8-th) i used as spare.
up to now i think i'm ok???
    what confuse me is:
    7 HDD X 500GB= 3500GB
after creating array i get 3200 GB, where i lose 300 GB??
after creating logical drive i get 2700 GB, where i lose 500 GB???
from 2700GB i give 150GB for system partition and for data storage i have only 2550 GB.
    Why i lose 800GB??
Can someone explain me how RAID 5 works, do i create it correctly and why i lose so much space???
Is there other way to create RAID 5 without losing so much space?
    Thanks you in advnce.

The first 'loss' you encounter (300MB) is due to megabyte counting/rounding.  A 500GB disk contains about 500.000.000 bytes. This quite a bit less than if counted properly using binary. you loose about 24288000 bytes per disk this way!
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mibibyte |
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Megabyte
the second loss is due to how raid works.in raid 5 data is written to multiple disks to improve reliability. the simplies t form uses 3 disks: a write will cause half of the data to be written to disk 1, half to disk 2 and the XOR of both datahalfs to disk
    3. In this scenario you will loose 33% of storage space and you can loose up to one of 3 disks.
By adding more disks, data can be spread more and the ratio available/raw will increase, or you can write aditionnal crc data and increase resliency for failures.
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/RAID
To check the exact algoritmes using on you RAID adapter, I would recommend contacting the vendor (or checking their support site) From your numbres, I do not think you will be able to configure RAID 5 on the same disks and having more available
    space for your data.

    Teresa,
I think the best way for someone to volunteer to help you would be for them to send you a Private Message (PM) here on the forums. You should see a small envelope in the upper right corner of the screen, when it changes color you will know you have a PM to view.
I would be happy to help, but since I am in North Texas I don't think that is a viable option Sorry....

  • Need help setting up and configuring rsync

    Hello
I need help setting up, or rather configuring rsync to sync data between my brand new iMac and my Macbook Air.
Here is what I would like to:
    - I want all of the files on both machines to be an exact mirror or copy of each other. Basically I have an iMac for at home, and then a Macbook Air for the road.
    - The main folder on both Macs is called 'Sara' and I want the contents (mainly the 'movies' folder, 'music' folder, 'documents' folder and 'pictures' folder) to immediately sync up with each other when both of them are on my home network.
    - this means if I'm working on a file at home on my Macbook, it will immediately write to the same directory on my iMac and vice versa (if I'm working on file(s) on my iMac, it will immediately save the contents to my Macbook). This way, if I'm working on last minute project my iMac, and then have to head out the door to the airport, the file is immediately saved to my Macbook (no usb for USB transfer).
    - hopefully this makes sense??
    Any help is greatly appreciated!
    Thanks

It's a lofty but unrealistic goal.  Rsync does not run automatically.  There is no realistic method of instantaneously synching two computers over the internet or even on a LAN.
I would suggest you might try using Synk Pro which, in theory, can keep two devices in sync when they are both on the same network (and both have shared and mounted drives.)
If you must do this with rsync then I suggest a Google search for rsync tutorials.

I need help setting up an apple id for my son's phone. It seems his email address has been taken and/or we cant get the password.

    Two different things
    If you forgot the password
If you forgot your Apple ID password - Apple Support
If the email ID you want to use is in use by someone else - then you may need a new one
The iCloud ID's are usually unique and may be of help if you set one up

  • Need help Setting up Multiple Static Ip , 1 for each port of the fios router

Need help Setting up multiple Static Ip on my fios router
I have been trying to figure out how to set up multiple ip in my fios router.
However I kind of managed how to set up multiple static ip However the way I want it is for each port of my router to have an external ip signed to it. ( like 4 different modem in 1 )
Verizon gave me 5 static ip but they can not help me how to set it up.
Have anyone here done more then one static ip on different ports? I assume that the process will be the after the second static ip.

You want to set up Static Nat. You will not assign the IP to a port, but rather to a local machine. Figure out what machines you want your IP's to go to. Under the firewall section you will see static nat. Pick the machine you want and enter one of the IP's you were assigned.
