Need help / suggestion in creating realistic thunder particle effect

I has a lot of problem in creating realistic thunder particle
effect:
1) The "particle" I use is a tiny white square, when it
duplicating it create weird thunder...simply say ithe lighting
effect look very fake.
2) The motiton of thunder is too "sharp", it make the thunder
look like "zip zap"
3) So far I only can create one thunder bolt but I cannot
make it split into few thunder bolt and move to different
direction.
Can anyone give me some suggestion, either in graphic, math
or logic?

To get the best answers, I think you probably need to break down your post into several different one with a separate question in each, along with the business problem you are trying to solve... but here's a few pointers for you to research...
Textbox - there's plenty of info in SDN on creating a custom control with a textbox e.g. Re: Text Editor on modulepool Screen and sample code in SAP too.

Need help opening files created on Mac in PC

Please help! Our old Mac is down and I need to access some files on our network that were created in PM 5. I'm now using a PC that I downloaded the trial of PM 7 onto in hopes of being able to access these files and convert them to InDesign CS4.
Here's my problem:
When I try to open a PM 5 (or even a PM 6.5) file created on the Mac using the PM 7 on the PC I get this message: "File cannot be translated to PC and converted to new version at the same time." Does anyone know how to get around this? Is there another program that will translate the Mac file to PC?

A co-worker has a MacBook that they're going to bring in next week so I can transfer the files. This will not work. Pagemaker needs to run in Classic on a Mac running OSX. A MacBook is an Intel chip and does not support Classic. You either need an old Mac that boots OS9 or a PowerPC Mac that will run Classic. As long as they are PM6 or better they should open no problem in IDCS3 and 4.
My offer still stands if you need to get started.

WM/Menu/Panel - Need Help/Suggestions

At the moment, I'm running KDE 3.5... with OpenBox3 as the window manager. I like the KDE apps, and the OpenBox look and feel. I really, really like Xfce4's panel and right click on desktop menu, and was wondering if it is possible to give up the DE and just have OpenBox with Xfce4's menu and panel. I could still use the KDE apps but I would not use the DE. I do not like the OpenBox menu, even if it is xml/standard. I know the panel is possible, but not so sure about the menu. I don't want to have to download all of Xfce4 though. I don't need Terminal or Thunar or that stuff.
If anyone has any ideas or suggestions I'd appreciate it.

If you want to run XFCE and just substitute Openbox as the window manager, you can look here:

It's also possible to run Openbox, and then launch the XFCE panel on top of it (xfce4-panel).
I'll also second that the XFCE apps (Thunar and their terminal program) are quite light and fast. If you don't want them, they shouldn't get in the way.

Need help deleting newly created folder...

So, I'm using an iCal alarm to download a folder of files (.jpgs) using fetch. I then have a folder action set up to move the newly downloaded images to another folder, then they are separated by a "move by EXIF data" action.
This all works well, but I need to delete the folder the images were originally downloaded in, so that when the Fetch/iCal action downloads the folder/images the next day, it doesn't create a new folder with a "-1" added to it.
I have tried all the combinations of "Get Specified Finder Items," "Get Folder Contents" and "Move Finder Items to Trash," but I can't get this one little empty folder to go away...
Any suggestions?

Nevermind. I figured it out!
I had an unecessary "Move Finder Items" action after a "New Folder" action. This somehow messed up the flow, cuz files are moved within the "New Folder" action.

Setup a database table and populate the fields (i.e. auto-numerical_primary_key, id, dynamic_mod_url, title, article_content, etc.) then on your page create a filtered recordset where URL parameter (id) = your database table field (primary_key). Place the bindings of the filtered recordset on the page to show dynamic values for the filtered recordset based on the URL parameter. i need to develop a report --
a report with columns: emp_id, emp_name, manager_number
Basically i have 4 tables -- dept_table, emp_table, time_table, role_table
dept_table has columns ---> dept_id, dept_name
emp_table has columns --> emp_name, dept_number, emp_key, emp_id
time_table ---> time_key, year
role_table --> time_key, emp_key
joins:
emp_table and role_table are joined thru ---- emp_key
role_table and time_table are joined thru ------ time_key
dept_table.dept_id = emp_table.dept_number
parameter of the report:
year from time_table.
for example
the dept_table has 20 depts => 20 dept ids
the emp_table has 100 employees.
these 100 employees wud be assigned to one of the 20 depts. (some employees might be given a wrong dept id which actually doesn’t exist)
Now i need to develop a report with the field columns of the emp_table: emp_id, emp_name, dept_number
where dept_number is not a valid dept_number (i.e. dept_id not present in dept_table)
how shud i proceed?
In discoverer admin, how shud i create the join between the database folders dept_table and emp_table like
master_item detail_item
dept_table.dept_id = emp_table.dept_number (???)
or the other way round???
under options of create join: what shud be the join details which i need to select ??

(i) For all the employees that are not assigned to a department.
I have created the join and the report as u suggested. I have put 4 fields from emp_table and 1 field (i.e. dept_table.dept_id).
There I could see the employees who are not assigned to any dept has dept_table.dept_id as NULL. So, when I apply the condition dept_table.dept_id IS NULL to pick up all employees without a valid department, it still shows some employees with valid depts.
i dont understand what to do.
(ii) I have proceeded just as u suggested. But I dont see all the depts. some depts are filtered by the parameters (this is the main issue).
I need to have all the depts. and its corresponding employee count irrespective of the parameters.
Some depts are filtered by the parameters. the dept_table doesnt have any of the parameters. There are three parameters, one from time_table and 2 from emp_table. These 3 parameters are filtering the dept_id s and is not allowing all the depts to show up.

Need help trying to create a ActiveX registered event

I am trying to create a register event for an ActiveX component. The problem I am having is creating the callback vi. When I right click on the VI ref and create the callback vi it is created with the user parameter as a variant. I would like this to be a control refnum. If I open the callback vi and replace the user parameter variant with a control refnum the wire from the callback vi to the VI ref is broken. How do I change the user parameter?

Joe is correct on this one. The callback where designed to take variants as their inputs, so that they are more flexible. In addition Variants are used through out ActiveX programming.
If you have a control reference that you want to pass into the VI, all you need to use is the "To Variant" function in the main VI to turn the reference into a variant. You can then inside the Callback VI you can use the Variant to Data VI to change the variant back to a reference; you simply where a constant of the reference type to the "Type" terminal.

I need help finding or creating a script to automatically create iCal email and message reminders. iCal

Dear All,
I'm learning to use iCal v.5.0.3 on a Mac Pro (2,1) 2x3 Ghz Quad-Core Intel Xeon, running Lion OSX10.7.5.
I need to find or write a script which, when I create a new iCal timed event, will automatically send me an email and give a screen alert 24 hours before - plus on the morning of the appointment, plus 2 hours beforehand. I'm wondering if such a script exists already or can be adapted. I've searched various forums and am unable to find specific simple instructions on how to create such a thing in Applescript or Automator or whatever. So I've really tried to find out on my own.
Can anyone direct me to a set of instructions? This can't be so hard, can it? To clarify, when I create an "event" with a time (an appointment), I want to hit a button which tells iCal to send me these reminders without my having to set multiple reminders in iCal for each of my new "events".
I'd be most grateful for any advice at all.

Doing a shell script to burn a DVD from a folder (for example) is pretty challenging. The reason is that you need to execute the entire script in one shot, because making a burned disk is a 3 part affair with each part of the operation taking time. The problem with executing separate commands is that Applescript can't wait around until a shell command is finished, while a shell script will not proceed to the next command until the previous command is completed.
Burning disk takes these 3 parts:
1) Create an empty diskimage of your desired size
2) Mount the empty and copy your stuff to it
3) Burn and eject
There may be a shortcut by burning an existing folder but you don't say exactly what you're doing. See the hdutil command for more information:

Need help getting form created in Acrobat X to email form data back to me

The form I created seems to work from my computer that has Acrobat X installed but when I try to submit the PDF with a computer that only has Reader installed it says "This Operation is Prohibited."
The end users of this form will most likely only have Adobe Reader, how do I set up my form so that it is compatible with Reader?

You have 2 choices and one depends on your satisfying the limits of the EULA (no more than 500 submissions basically). For the latter, you have the entire form submitted and you have to enable Reader Rights in Acrobat. On this machine (AA8), it is under the Advanced menu, not sure with AAX (I think they moved it). For the other choice that does not have the license limit, you do not activate Reader Rights, but have the data submitted as an FDF file (XML if you are using Designer, but then Designer questions should really go to the LiveCycle forum). When you receive the FDF or XML file, you simply go to the forms menu in Acrobat > Manage Data, and import the data. The FDF Toolkit also allows separate manipulation of data files.

Need help in CS3 creating CS4 spry tooltip-like widgit

I am extremely new to Dreamweaver and know very little HTML and no other codes and so please bear with me if I am using some terms incorrectly.
I created an image map with hotspots. When I move the mouse over a hotspot I would like for a description box to come up with either an image and text, or just an image, whichever is easiest. I believe what I am trying to do is called an image tooltip?
I've searched all over the internet to try and find step by step instructions or a video on this, but the closest I could find was the CS4 spry tooltip widgit, which is new to dreamweaver and not part of CS3. I figured out how to put a simple text tooltip on a hotspot using "alt" but that is too basic and I need at least an image instead when I put my mouse over the hotspot.

Without an understanding of HTML and CSS, you will find Dreamweaver an uphill struggle.

Scroll to the bottom of the page, and you'll see three links related to Spry tooltips. However, you'll have considerable difficulty implementing anything without a basic knowledge of HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. Dreamweaver is a professional tool for working with those technologies. It is not the magic wand that some people seem to expect. Spend a little time learning about web technologies, and Dreamweaver will become a joy to work with.

The string is read in such that the any value before the : is a parent and its childern continue until a ; is found. Anyway verifying the sting I have accomplished and I have been able to input the string into a modified binary tree as long as there are only 2 childern per parent and graphically represents its structure of hierarchy. The problem is that each parent can have more the two childern.
I have been working with the BTree class and find its output similar to what I am wanting which would represent a hierarchy of objects (files, employees, etc...) anyway I have been stumped as to how to get the above string into a format that can then create the correct JTree output without hard code.
If any one has any suggestions on how to turn the data, in the string array into a usable format to create the correct JTree output, I would greatly appreciate it.
In the above example the string array, a:bc;b:ghj;g:km;b:u would have a desired ouput of
a
..b
....g
......k
......m
....h
....j
....u
..c

ex: a:b,c;b:g,h,j;g:k,m;b:u
note: (the above string is then stored into a string array such in the format a:bc;b:ghj;g:km;b:u after it is verified that the hierarchy order is correct)
