Anil,
This isn't the right forum to ask about databases. A search in google gave me good results.

You can try that.

  • New to sap - need help in configure backup strategy for SAP XI server.

    hi gurus
being a netweaver guy, recently i have been given  the responsibility of few basis activities.like database backup.
can any one tell me clear procedure to take both daily online and weekend full offline backup of oracle in to disk first and then to tape.   i have seen in the internet  material few discussing about brbackup and few about sap DB13. i am totally confused which one to use, and which is good. please help
    akhil

    Hi,
welcome on board as SAP Netweaver guy,
don't be confused both DB13 and BRtools are the same both of them will call brbackup.
to configure the brtools you have to change in your brtools profiles located at  %ORACLE_HOME%/dbs
please before changing any thing take backup from that folder.
    - to take the backup to disk then to tape you will need extra backup software, because using the SAP slandered tools you have to select either Disk or Tape.
    Thanks

  • I need help with a backup file that was deleted and now undeleted from my hard drive

Last month (May 6, 2011), I was updating my iPod Touch 4G with the new software that came out. I always make a backup of my iPod's data before I update it. While my iPod was updating I left my iPod and computer alone and was doing things around the house with my mom. And when I was done I went in my room to see if it was done and my computer decides that it was going to freeze and crash on me (with my iPod plugged in and stuck on the updating or verifying software mode.) I managed to get my iPod back to working condition again but losing everything on my iPod. I formatted my computer hard drive but I managed to get back the backup I lost. I need help on getting the backup into iTunes so I can get my data back. I am not Jailbroken and I plan not to Jailbreak. I however saved the backup file in a folder other than the Mobilesync folder. I am also running on Windows XP. Someone please help me and thank you in advance!

I was able to backup my iPod and I tried to restore my iPod again and it goes through the process and everything but it restores the temporary data that I had on there. It didn't restore application data or the current photos and videos that I had saved in Camera Roll before this all had happened. It is almost like it goes back to factory settings but I have some photos that were saved on the other backup that I was temporarily running on. The backup that I am looking to restore is the only backup file in the Mobilesync folder as of right now the others are saved somewhere safe for right now. Why doesn't it restore my application data or my Camera Roll pictures and videos that I saved before my computer crashed last month? Can this problem be fixed?

  • I need help finding a backup history?

i need help figuring out how to restore my ipod  its back up but i was wondering if there is some how a feature where i can find like a back up history so i can restore my ipod to a backup from a different date instead of the last backup any ideas? I accidentally jacked up my ipod and i need to see if i can go to a sort of backup history from apple so i can restore my ipod from a different date instead of the LAST back up

This shows what I see if I use the Edit > Preferences > Devices in iTunes.
(Use Alt or Ctrl+B if you don't see the menu bar.)
It shows just one backup for each of four devices (I don't normally update at this machine). As I recall if there were more, the additional backups would contain the restore date as part of the left-hand column.
I suspect you're not going to like what you find.

  • I'm a Noob, and need help solving a backup issue.

I previously had an Alienware PC with a 1TB harddrive.  I backed up to the cloud using Carbonite.
I decided to get a new laptop and got a MacBook Pro with Retina.  It only has 128GB harddrive.  My plan was to use a 2TB external harddrive and back up both using Carbonite.  Well, turns out Carbonite only does external harddrive backup with PC's not Macs.  So, I need help.
I have way more files than can fit on my laptop that need to be accessed and backed up on a regular basis, so it would seem time machine isn't the solution.
What do you do? or would you recommend?  What is the best way for someone like me who wants continual access to and backup of a large amount of data?  Are there any good cloud based solutions you would recommend?
    I appreciate your help!

The MOST important part in that link was the titled portion marked: Make backups for your backups
My list  for the original poster:
Never consider any computer a data storage device, rather a data creation ,sending, and manipulation device. Anyone who thinks data is safe on any computer, even copied upon multiple partitions is making a mistake.
Never backup your data exclusively upon magnetic hard drives or flash storage, nor consider same since magnetic storage degrades over time even under ideal conditions.
Store important data on multiple servers on multiple continents.
Burn important data onto multiple copies of archival DVDs and store same in cool dark fireproof safes, hidden places, secret places, multiple places.
Don’t burn data onto junk DVD’s purchased from consumer level electronics stores. These are not archival long life DVD’s nor reliable, nor trustworthy
When data can be made to be everywhere, then there is nowhere it can be erased or destroyed.
Most importantly know that 2 copies of your data is 1, and 1 is none, and 1000 copies stored in one place or building, is also the same as none when a fire occurs.
Always consider and expect your computer’s hard drive to completely crash anytime, at all times, and thou shalt keep a cloned and updated hard drive handy at all times to return to immediate productivity and avoid program and parameter reinstallation and tweaking.
When your data is decentralized, it becomes both everywhere and nowhere, accessible to all, destructible by none, cannot be collected together or permanently retrieved under any circumstances.

  • Need help for DB backup through OEM 11g grid

I need to know how to schedule the hot backup of whole DB using OEM 11g grid.
In our system there is a backup running for DB (10gr2). It is not scheduled through jobs.
I am not able to find this scheduled db backup information from OEM.
Can anyone guide me how to check the current backup schedules and backup script ?
Is there any good document for this ?

    Hi Dhaval,
You may look out option for restore backup from production and restore the same on QAS.
    Refer SAP note
    683447
SAP Tools for MS SQL Server
Which shall help you with post restore steps on the database.
Once DB and SAP is up you may perform generic post restore steps like
    - STMS re-configuration
    - Adjusting profiles
    - Executing BDLS
    - Importing RFCs and user master ( if exported before the restore)
    - Adjusting Partner profiles
    - Configuring backup
    - Apply SAP license
Above are just a few of them to name. There could be many more as per customer landscape.

  • Need help creating a backup strategy

    Hello,
I have never backed up any data in my life (long time mac user, no problems) and have just recently bought the Lacie d2 250 firewire drive. The reason for this purchase was that I am sending my MBP in for repairs and began reseaching various backup software. Now I am completley paranoid and somewhat confused. Here are my questions to the pro's:
    1) I know that I would like to have a clone of my drive so that if my drive goes to heaven I can I can boot off the external backup and restore. Now, does this mean that I have to clone my drive nightly to be up to date?
    2) I have read that some programs will do incremental backups of only files that have been changed. My confusion here: Is the clone modified? Or are these programs seperate backup files that I would have to restore in addition to restoring from the bootable clone?
    3) I would like to have a bootable clone and backup changes in documents/ new files nightly. Nothing superfancy. From my understanding superduper can do this, data backup x can do this ($$$), and I suppose the list goes on. In your opinion what program would provide the most time effiecnt means/ sensable method to do this?
    4) if you do something similar to what i want to do, can you give an example of your stratagy?
Thank you all in advance. I will give helpfull points to all!

    Hi,
It sounds like you need SuperDuper!.
From what I know, it will do bootable clones, incrementals, and the other things you need. I only use it to backup my home folder to an image on my firewire HDD. I have limited backup space which is why I don't do a full clone. Also I think it requires you to reformat your external HDD if you want to make it a bootable clone. Check out their documentation for more info - it's pretty easy to use but going thru the documentation will give you all the options and help you to define how you want to backup.
You can download it free to try but you need to buy it to get access to all of the features, like scheduling and incremental backups. At US$27.95 I think it's a bargain tho..
    HTH!

  • Need help on incremental backup

    Hi,
I am running a rman backup using 10g DBCONSOLE. I selected level 0 backup and it's running. this is the command.
    >>
    backup incremental level 0 cumulative device type disk filesperset = 5 tag 'BACKUP_DHAVA.SOS.S_081507014538' database;
    >>
my question is when should run my level 1 backup?? can i run every week level 1backup and run level 0 back every 4 week?
if i want to recover in what order should i recover??
    thanks

can i run every week level 1backup and run level 0 back every 4 week? There's no fix rule. But I would do a level 0 backup more frequently, let's say once a week. And a level 1 backup the other days. Otherwise a restore/recovery could run very long.
if i want to recover in what order should i recover??You don't have to care about this, RMAN knows which backups are needed in which order. Restore process starts always with a level 0 backup, afterwards it reads all needed level 1 backups and the following recover process applies the archivelogs.

  • I need help making a backup script

I'm trying to create this full system backup script that I plan to run manually. I have some commands to compress and extract my root directory and everything in it, but they're not complete because there are a few other features I would like to have. The problem is that I have no idea how to implement these specific features, and my googling of bash scripting documentation only left me confused and at square 1. This is what I have so far (just commands I can run in the terminal):
    To compress:
    sudo tar -cpf ~/archive.tar.gz / --exclude=/proc
    To extract & restore:
    sudo tar -xpf /home/agi/archive.tar.gz -C /
    I want this script to:
    1. allows me to run as
sh ~/.bin/backup.sh [directory to back up]
What I mean is there should be some sort of parameter in the script so that when I run it, I can choose whatever directory I want to compress rather than just be limited to just /.
    2. puts finished .tar.gz in my home directory (I plan to transfer the archive to external media or online later; this gives me the freedom to not need to have a specific drive connected to run the script). I already have this in the commands, but I just wanted to point out that this is important.
    3. names finished .tar.gz DD-MM-YY-backup.tar.gz where DD is day, MM is month, YY is year.
    4. the "sudo" part works correctly. That is, the script, when run, asks for a password and can be granted root permissions (or is granted root permissions in some other way) so that I can back up all parts of my system without these sorts of errors.
    5. shows some sort of progress indicator. Either a progress bar, shows the tar program output, or something that gives me an indication that the script is working and perhaps how long it will take. This one is really optional, for as long as the process is working properly then I'm ok. But if it is possible and not ridiculously complicated or difficult, it would be very nice.

What I mean is there should be some sort of parameter in the script so that when I run it, I can choose whatever directory I want to compress rather than just be limited to just /.
On my backup script, I specify $* which should accept any arguments passed to the script.. ex: $ ./backup.sh /source/folder /source/folder2.
    in the script:
    #!/bin/sh
    tar -cpf $HOME/$(date +%d%m%Y)-backup.tar.gz $* --exclude=/proc
    2. puts finished .tar.gz in my home directory (I plan to transfer the archive to external media or online later; this gives me the freedom to not need to have a specific drive connected to run the script). I already have this in the commands, but I just wanted to point out that this is important.
In the above script, that is what the ~ or $HOME should do..
    3. names finished .tar.gz DD-MM-YY-backup.tar.gz where DD is day, MM is month, YY is year.
Same thing, the above script should do the trick, you might want to modify the date parameters (check the date manual)
    4. the "sudo" part works correctly. That is, the script, when run, asks for a password and can be granted root permissions (or is granted root permissions in some other way) so that I can back up all parts of my system without these sorts of errors.
You could put something to prevent the script from running unless you are root, or you could have it prompt for a password and use sudo within the script. I would recommend the first. Here is a code snippet:
    #Check for root
    if [ $(whoami) != "root" ]; then
echo "Error: You cannot perform this operation unless you are root"
    exit 1
    fi
    5. shows some sort of progress indicator. Either a progress bar, shows the tar program output, or something that gives me an indication that the script is working and perhaps how long it will take. This one is really optional, for as long as the process is working properly then I'm ok. But if it is possible and not ridiculously complicated or difficult, it would be very nice.
You might be able to use a similar program to tar, but with progress. Maybe someone else could shed some light here..
    Hope this helps...

  • Need help with a backup robot

    Hi all,
I'm having a problem with a backup robot, that is not mounting drives. Someone, a long time ago, told me exists a command that do a reconfiguration of the robot, and with that i don't need to reboot the server. Anyone knows this command and can tell how it works to me? Thanks in advance.

Hello to reconfigure the robot without restarting the server use the command nsrjb -HEv
−H Resets the jukebox hardware (and the NetWorker database representing the jukebox) to a consistent
    state.
-E Initializes element status for jukeboxes that support this feature. You can use this option in conjunction
with the −I or −H options.
−v Set the verbosity level by the number of times this flag is specified on the command line. The
maximum verbosity level supported is 5. See other arguments for specific details on the verbose
    output.

  • Need help with database configuration

    Hi all,
I have an Oracle 9i release 2 Database running on Windows server 2000. There I intend to insert data using a consol application. The program runs fine from other machines connected to it through lan and data is inserted all right. But when I run the program on the same machine as the database server, it gives the following error message
    "ORA-01843: not a valid month
    ORA-06512: at "FASTDB.SPINSMODSALESCENTERSMESSAGES", line 16
    ORA-06512: at line 1 .."
The program is written in C# and the server has .NET FrameWork 2.0 and MDAC 2.6 installed.
I don't understand if the program were wrong, then how does it run properly from other machines. And if it runs correctly on the other machines then why doesn't it run on the server machine..
    The procedure looks like this

  • Need help on dial backup with ISP

I've been googling around a couple hours and can't find a simple configuration for dial backup to an Internet Service Provider.
So far, what I've been able to find is direct dialing to routers and dial backup using ISDN.
All I need is for a router to dial. The ISP uses PAP/CHAP authentication and dynamically assigns IP addresses to dialup accounts.
I have an 1841 router with a T1 line on S0/0/0. I want it to fail over to the modem on the AUX port and use that as the new default gateway for all traffic.
    Any help is appreciated.

I think you can use Dial on Demand Routing (DDR) as described here:
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/tech/tk801/tk133/tsd_technology_support_protocol_home.html
and this particular guide as well:
    http://docwiki.cisco.com/wiki/Internetwork_Design_Guide_--_Designing_DDR_Internetworks#Dial_Backup_for_Leased_Lines
Basically your dial connection will not be active until certain traffic will pass through.
Now, to pass traffic only when primary is down, you can define a static floating route as explained above, which is a route with a higher admin distance than the default one, so if the normal route is up, nothing will pass to the dialer, if it's down, the route to the dialer will be used.
To detect that primary route is down, either use dynamic routing or route tracking as suggested.
    I hope that helps.

    bastien.

  • Need help regarding database connection

    hello
iam new to j2ee i am using Jsp,Ejb and Jboss server i need to connect to the oracle database with the above configuration wher can i find the tutorials can anybody help me please

a word of advice - if you're new to jsp, jboss, and ejbs, and obviously know nothing about jdbc either, this isn't the way to learn it.
start with the jdbc tutorial and see if you can get a single java class to connect to a database and execute some sql. then work up from there.
what you're doing is something known as "biting off more than you can chew".

  • Need help with database migration using export/import

    Hi,
I am planning to do a database migration from 8.0.6 to 10.2.0.4. I am using export/import. Please answer some of my queries:
    1) Do i need to do full export using SYS/SYSTEM user.
    exp80 system/manager file=c:full.dmp log=c:\full.txt full=y consistent=y
    2) Will there be any data corruption while export.
    3) Is export/import the only method of migration/upgradation.
    Please help
    Thanks.

I'll answer the specifics that I know about your questions, but please look at the post from Srini for additional info:
    1) Do i need to do full export using SYS/SYSTEM user.
exp80 system/manager file=c:full.dmp log=c:\full.txt full=y consistent=yA full export will move as much information (metadata/data) as possible. In order to do a full export/import, you need to do this from a
privileged account. A privileged account is one with EXP_FULL_DATABASE for export and IMP_FULL_DATABASE for import.
    2) Will there be any data corruption while export. The data in the objects that you are exporting is being read, nothing is written to user data. I'm not sure what this is available in 8.0.6,
but if you need a consistent export, look to see if consistent=y is available in 8.0.6. All this means is that the dump file created will have
    consistent data in it.
    3) Is export/import the only method of migration/upgradation.If you are changing hardware, the only supported way from 8.0 to 10.2.0.4, that I know of, is using exp/imp.
    Hope this helps.

  • Need help on database capasity planning

    Hi All,
Basically I am JAVA developer, I need database help.
User Interface(UI) screens design was completed as a part of Requirements study. Is there any way that to do database capasity planning and load in future?
    Thanks in advance,

What we usually do in our shop is do some basic DB design as part of the requirement gathering stage. Just a quick idea of what the tables will look like, what queries will run, etc.
This helps the DB team plan the db requirements, because once you know what data will sit in which table, you can say things like "This table will be populated once with 300 rows, that table will get about 3 new rows a day, but the other table will get 3000 new rows every minute", and now you know that as part of your requirements you show decide how long you want to keep data in that huge table (delete data older than a week? month? year?) and this allows you to calculate hardware requirements (especially diskspace, memory and IO). Then you look at the queries and get started about indexes...
That was a huge question you asked. I hope this gave you some sort of a clue where to begin.
BTW. If you find that you have lots of huge tables that grow fast, this may be the right time to hire a DBA :-)
