Best thing to do is connect your computer to the Time Capsule (LAN port) using an ethernet cable. Once connected, run Airport Utility and it should let you know why the light is yellow and attempt to fix the problem. If the problem persists, you should either re-configure the Time Capsule properly or conduct a hard reset and start the configuration over from the factory settings.

  • Help! Time Capsule not connected to the Internet

    Hi everyone!
I have this problem, and hope someone can help me.
In my house I have this network
Modem/Router Netgear DGN2200 connected via ethernet to Airport Express.
Airport Express is set to create a wireless network, bridge mode.
In the house I also have a Time Capsule set to extend the wireless network, bridge mode.
Time Capsule is connected via ethernet to my TV decoder to have extra services through the Internet.
Ok. All worked fine until a couple of days ago.
Then, I didn't change anything but Time Capsule (and so the TV decoder) seems to have no acces to the Internet anymore.
But Time Capsule is still available on the local network, so I can access to it, make backups and so on.
    What should I do?!
Thanks for your help and sorry for my bad English.
    Matteo

Did you try a simple reboot of the network devices.. turn off all the network stuff..
    Restart in correct order..
    1. Modem.. wait 2 min.
    2. Express.. wait 2min.
    3. TC.. wait 2min.
Then try the TV.. if it doesn't work reset both the express and TC to factory.. and redo the setup.. you had them setup correctly but please use SMB names.. since the TV will not talk apple.. SMB names are short.. 2-20 characters.. no spaces and pure alphanumeric.
so for example the name of the Express.. AEx Name of the TC.. TC1
    Name for wireless. Aex24ghz
Use a different name for 5ghz if your Express is a dual band latest model. Aex5ghz
Use fixed channel so that it is locked.. eg. 2.4ghz on channel 11 5ghz on channel 40.
The TC will follow the wireless exactly.
    See how you go.

  • Time Capsule not connected to Ethernet?

    Hello,
I walked in to my office two days ago and the amber light was blinking with an occasional green (on my Time Capsule).
The reported error was that the ethernet was not connected. It was. I ultimately disconnected the ethernet cable from my Time Capsule and connected directly to my iMac. After some configuring issues I was on line. Did what I needed to do and shut down.
Next day  I decided to try powering down the Time Capsule and re-connected the Ethernet cable. Everything worked fine just like it has for well over a year now.
I figured maybe the cleaning crew bumped the power and everything was fine.
    No dice.
Came in this morning and the Time Capsule is blinking amber again (with an occasional green) same issue. "no ethernet connected."
Now I am connected directly to the IMac and asking for help.
    Please.
Thanks in advance for your help.

On our TC, the TC shows a green light even when it refuses our computer/device wireless connections and says the password is invalid.  However, I left the house for three hours and am now on my laptop and it is apparently working normally.  I plan to watch it very closely for the next week and see what happens.
I have read on here (and other Mac-centric review sites) that TC's are very unreliable, have slower than average wireless connections (and short ranges in apartments, especially through walls/several rooms), and fail within 18 months -- all of which is considered "normal" lifespan by Apple (as confirmed by the Apple employees at the San Diego Store in Fashion Valley).
I don't plan on purchasing another TC, and likely not even an Airport extreme.  I will look at buying a more reliable wireless router with stronger (farther) connections and connection ranges. I love apple products and have used them to the exclusion of others for over 15 years, but this is really annoying (and my friends have much better wireless networks!).

  • I can't get my airport time capsule to connect to the internet

I can't get my new airport time capsule to connect to the internet. It works fine with my linksys router

We cannot help with that amount of info..
What internet type and modem do you have? Exact modem make and model may help.
Is the linksys router also the modem? You do know there is no modem in the TC?
How is the Linksys authenticating if it is plugged into the modem??
If cable did you shut down the cable modem for at least 20min to change the router.. this is always required with cable system.. often the time is longer.. one hour or overnight even.

  • What type of modem do i need for time capsule. I can't get it to pick up the net

what type of modem do i need for time capsule. I can't get it to pick up the net

    Simply bridge the TC..
With DSL you need to either bridge the modem and use PPPoE client which can be difficult to setup.. especially as some modems do not bridge readily..
Or bridge the TC which is simple.. go to the airport utility and select internet page, on v5 utility or network page on v6 utility and select off-bridged mode for the mode of connection.

  • Time Capsule Loses Connection Can't Back Up

I have a 2009 Macbook Pro with Lion, and a 6 Month old Time Capsule.
I just set up my time capsule to extend to the wirless network in my new house. Everything is working perfectly fine untill about halfway thorugh the back up and I get an error that says "Time Capsule was connected to your network but isnt anymore" sometimes if finds it again and if not I do a soft reset, Re-join my network and start all over with the back up... only to "loose connection" even though my internet is at full bars and the time capsule and computer are sitting right next to one antoher.
    Any ideas?
    Thank you

Extend wireless is never as solid as single hop wireless.
What wireless router are you extending?
Can you swap so the TC is the main router?
If you are sitting next to the TC.. plug in ethernet.. that is the one and only reliable method.
But you might still need to set fixed IP addresses.

  • G4 imac and time capsule wireless connection

I have a dual band time capsule working wirelessly with 3 macs all intel (24 iMac, mbp 13, mb 13) with no issues. I was trying to connect a 17" flat panel G4 to the same wireless network on the time capsule and it fails to see the network.
When I type in the network name and password (WPA) it comes back with "encryption method not supported by the wireless network". Although all the others macs are working on this same network using the same encryption, the old iMac refuses to play nice. Is there something else I've overlooked?
This G4 has been on a various wireless networks over the past 5 years. It is running 10.4.11 and I know it will not support time machine, but still hoping it can share the wireless network.
    Thanks

    James,
You need to configure the Time Capsule to "join" the wireless network that is being provided by the Netgear router. The Time Capsule will connect using wireless only in this type of configuration.
Then, the Netgear, Time Capsule and your computer will all be on the same wireless network and you will not have to "switch" networks to access the Internet or back up to the Time Capsule.
Before we make any changes, we want to make sure that you understand that the Time Capsule will not perform any routing functions when it is configured to "join a wireless network".
The Ethernet ports on the  Time Capsule are not enabled in this setup, therefore you will not be able to use Ethernet to back up to the Time Capsule. Backups will be over wireless only, which is significantly slower than an Ethernet connection.
This setup can be tricky because you must know the exact type of wireless security that the Netgear router is using in order to provide the correct settings to the Time Capsule.
If the Time Capsule does not receive the correct settings during setup, you will receive a message that there has been an error and you must start all over again with a complete factory default reset of the Time Capsule and try again.
So, before we go any further, we need to ask....what is the exact type of wireless security that your Netgear router is using?

  • Time Capsule wireless connection through Netgear connection

I am now using a Netgear N300 Gigabite modem/router as my main access point (internet et al). However, I want to continue to use my Time Capsule as a wireless drive.
I'm not sure what I should set the Netgear and Time Capsule so that the Time Capsule does not interfere with the Netgear internet connection. Right now that is what it is doing. I have to set the Time Capsule to bridge and connect to it separately.
So, is there a way to access the TC hard drive through the Netgear wirelessly?
i.e. with my laptop I want to stay connected to the Netgear and have internet access but also be able to connect to TC through that Netgear connection.
I don't want to ethernet the TC to the NG. I have my TC ethernet connected to my iMac. So I need to have the NG and TC cooperating wirelessly.

  • My Time Capsule WiFi connection and internet connection issue

My Time Capsule WiFi connection to other devices works fine, but for some reason it can not connect to the internet only when "it feels like it",it will go in and out showing that its connect (green dot on airport utilities) then literaly the next second it disconnected (showing a yellow dot on airport utility) and it does that continuesly sometimes it stops doing for a couple of hours. I basically did every thing like reseting it, unplugging wait for what ever time, and it still does the same thing. i do have ethernet cable connect to the Time Capsule. Also sometimes my airport utilities say it cant find my Time Capsule (rarely) . So obviously i dont have a clue whats going on. PLEASE HELP

You have an issue with the local network. Pings to your local network device should be in the order of 5-10ms tops..
Look at your first line.. 2293ms that is over 2sec for the local router to respond.. but it is likely that little box that is the problem. You will get some websites simply time out if they take that long to respond.
Let me recommend you either get some help from ATT or get a local technician to fix it. There are other better ways to connect things.. in the end getting it cabled with ethernet is the best. Buy a long long ethernet cable if you want to have a test.. so you can plug the TC into the modem. Bypass the HPNA over cable slug.

You can, but how are you going to back up those other files?  When (not if) your Time Capsule fails, you risk losing them.  See #Q3 in Using Time Machine with a Time Capsule for details.
Then can i access these files only on the time capsule without connecting it?
Not sure what you mean.  You have to connect a computer, either via Ethernet cable or wirelessly, to read or write to the disk.

A "clicking noise" is often a sign that a hard drive is malfunctioning. Suggest that you power down the device and take it to an Apple store to have them take a look, or contact Customer Service at Apple for instructions.

  • Time Capsule Not connecting to internet

Hello. So recently I received a new iMac for Christmas and knowing that my wireless network is setup with MAC address filtering, I used my working laptop to connect to both the Airport Extreme and Time Capsule to add the iMac to the network. That worked and my iMac has been able to connect to the network no problem.
Let me explain what my network setup is before I tell about the problem:
I have the latest generation Airport Extreme (Dual Band II) and a first generation Time Capsule (1TB).
The Airport Extreme is connected to the internet by cable modem and the Airport is the main router sharing a single IP address.
I connected the Time Capsule to the Airport Extreme through Ethernet and set it up automatically with Airport Utility to extend over ethernet.
Now up untill now, I had no problems but since I got my iMac, I haven't been able to ever get a list of the Airport devices connected to the network, while connected to the Time Capsule, however, when connected to the Airport Extreme 5GHz network, I'm having no problems.
And today, the Time Capsule wouldn't connect to the internet over wifi, and all other devices wouldn't either. Of course, I tried to connect to the base station, but Airport Utility wouldn't display any devices connected. This happened with my MacBook as well.
Since connecting to the 5GHz network from the Airport Extreme, I have no problems with internet or Airport Utility. After a while though, the Time Capsule connected to the internet again.
Would someone shed some light on the situation?

I normally use the manual setup mode so I'm not sure what exactly is the end-state when choosing to extend a wireless network with the Time Capsule (TC) connected to the AirPort Extreme Base Station (AEBSn) by Ethernet.
I am guessing that the AirPort Utility configured the TC as a bridge to allow the AEBSn to still provide both NAT & DHCP services for all wired or wireless clients connected to either router.
Let's start by double-checking some settings on your TC. Please provide the following TC settings from the AirPort Utility:
AirPort Utility > Select the TC > Manual Setup > Time Capsule > Wireless
    o Wireless Mode = ?
o Allow this network to be extended = checked or unchecked?
    o Radio Mode = ?
    o Radio Channel Selection = ?
    Time Capsule > Access Control
    o MAC Address Access Control = ?
    Internet > Internet Connection
    o Connect Using = ?
    o Connection Sharing = ?
    Internet > TCP/IP
    o Configure IPv4 = ?

  • Must Time Capsule be connected by cable to the DSL Router?

The answer to this question maybe obvious, but not to me: I have a router DSL, via which I get my WiFi internet connection to 3 MACs at home. I'd like to use the versatility of Time Capsule to back up wireless and even do so for each MAC that I have. My question is: *_must Time Capsule be connected by cable to the DSL Router_*, or will it detect it wirelessly once it is plugged into the power mains?

I think that if your router supports [WDS|http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/WirelessDistributionSystem] then you might be able to get it to work. The problem is that WDS is not a very good standard so there's no guarantee it'll work.
[Here is a site|http://jeremy.zawodny.com/blog/archives/002812.html] discusses the topic at length.

  • Can time capsule be connected wirelessly and still use ethernet ports for other devices?

can time capsule be connected wirelessly and still use ethernet ports for other devices? we have it connected wirelessly but devices connected to the ethernet ports are not working.

Not as an additional router.. the TC will be plugged into the main router via ethernet (or ethernet equivalent)..
Then the TC is setup in bridge mode. It will simply act as a Switch and HDD.
The wireless can be setup in a number of ways.
From your convenience point of view use it in roaming network mode..
you simply give the TC the same Wireless Name as the existing routers SSID.
Same security setting and password. WPA2 Personal = WPA2 AES which is the best.
But they both use different wireless channels.. normally if you leave the TC on auto it will work fine, but I prefer to control the network.. so set the main router to say 1 and the TC to 11.
You can also use a completely different wireless name etc.. that is up to you. It is still a single flat network and the only thing that is important is only having one router.
