Need help transitioning iTunes use from old to new PC

I recently bought a new PC, installed iTunes and copied over my library (music, apps, etc).  I am able to play music on the new PC, but when I connect my iPod touch I'm not able to manage the apps.  What do I need to do to use my iPod touch on the new PC?

It shouldn't matter. If you copied the iTunes library from the old PC to the new PC, it should have kept everything.
However, even if you lose some apps, you can always download them again for free because you already paid for them. It will say "You already downloaded this item. To downoad it again for free, select OK" when you do that on the actual iPod itself.

  • Need help transferring itunes library from old computer to new laptop

    Hello,
I recently purchased a new laptop and am having trouble getting my library to transfer to my new laptop, i followed this step by step process http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1329?viewlocale=en_US and in the end ended up with no music on my ipod and no music in the itunes library on my new computer...
So then i went into Itunes on the new computer and clicked import library under File, so i found the Music folder that i had transferred over and it imported the music but all my playlist were not there, just songs. So i ended up syncing my ipod back to my old computer so i would get all the songs and playlist back on as it was originally before this whole process...
My desktop runs XP while my new laptop runs Vista Ultimate w/ SP1 home edition, dont know if this matters...
So not sure where i should go from here, i have already Authorized my laptop with the itunes store , i was thinking of uninstalling Itunes on my laptop and starting over from scratch, will this help?
BTW when i did the original transfer i used my Ipod as the hard drive as it had plenty of storage room left on it, i do have access to a 250GB external HD i was thinking of using that and trying that to transfer the library...
So if anyone can tell me how to transfer my Itunes library from old comp to new laptop it would be greatly appreciated...

The method you used should work if followed exactly.
The key points are - is your music all together? It must all be in the iTunes Music folder in the iTunes folder.
When you copy the iTunes folder to the iPod you get the library database with your playlists and the iTunes Music folder containing the music files.
Since you had trouble doing this with the iPod, why not try copying your iTunes folder to the external drive.
The method is identical the one for the iPod except you leave out the iPod specific stuff.
You install iTunes on the new PC, then you drag the newly created iTunes folder out the Music folder to the desktop, then you copy the iTunes folder from the EHD into Music, replacing the one you dragged out.
When you have done that, you need to check that your account has full control of your iTunes folder - Vista is fussy about that - you will not be able to edit track info if you don't have full control.

  • Need help transferring itunes library from old laptop to new laptop

Can someone help me?? I have a new laptop and have installed itunes on it. How do I get my old library from my old laptop onto my new one? What about all my playlists?
    Thank you in anticipation!
    Lisa

There should be one iTunes Folder that contains many iTunes folders underneath it. Copy that one to a memory stick (if it will fit), not the location you copied it from. Copy it to the same place on the new computer. iTunes should find and recognize it if it was in the default location. You just need to start iTunes on the new computer.
Be sure on the old computer to start iTunes, go to the Store menu on top, and Deauthorise the old computer. On the new computer do the opposite, go to the Store menu and Authorise that computer. You will have to enter your Apple ID and password.

  • Copying itunes music from old to new Windows PC

    Hi,
I currently have iTunes installed on my laptop, the iTunes config files are in the default directory on the C:\ however the actual music files and folders are on an external USB drive.
I have just purchased a new Dell Inspiron 6400 and want to transfer my iTunes onto this new laptop. I assume I have to install iTunes onto the new laptop but after that I have no idea.
    1. What are the steps to copy over my iTunes from old to new laptop?
    2. Will it keep the playlist and folder structure on the new laptop that is already setup on old laptop?
    Cheers Col.

If you download a program called ephPod you will be able to copy all the songs from your iPod to a folder of your choice on your new computer. Its free as well, which is always good.
once downloaded, connect your ipod to your new computer and ephPod will load up all the songs on it. if you click on songs at the top (as in, sort by songs), then select all and copy to directory it will ask u to select a folder on the computer to copy the songs to. then just simply press ok and it shold work. any photos can be copied by going into your iPod via My Computer and just clicking on iPod -> Photos. good luck!

  • Need to tranfer Itunes library from old computer to new computer

I bought a laptop which is a Compaq with Windows 7. I wanted to "transfer" my Itunes library from my old computer to my new computer. In other words, I wanted my Itunes account and Ipod to be on the new computer. So I installed Itunes on my new laptop and synced my Ipod classic to the new computer. I lost all of my music except for the music I purchased off of Itunes.
I have looked through the Apple articles and have gone through many, many times to copy my Itunes library from my hard drive to the new computer. It does not copy correctly. It shows up in my Itunes library but WILL NOT sync to my ipod. I have also lost the games I purchased off of Itunes. Everytime I try to download the games, it wants to charge me all over again.
Is there someone out there that can tell me a simple way of tranferring my Itunes library with my games I have purchased to my new computer??? I know it is possible.
**one more thing, my old computer can't be hooked up to the internet anymore since I got a laptop and my internet is wireless.

You need to copy the entire iTunes folder from the old computer to the new one. You should be able to link the machines to each other, either directly with a cross over network cable, or via your internet router - typically wireless models also include one or two wired connections.
The important thing to is to copy the library files from the iTunes folder as well as the media. If you won't be using the old machine any more then you should also deauthorize it (which will need an internet connection).
The new computer will need to be authorized to your account before it will copy protected content, such as games, to your iPod.

  • Help With iTunes Recovery From Old Hard Drive

Hi, recently I had A PC issue where I needed to replace my hard drive. I was originally running XP on a 500 GB drive, I didn't want to loose all my flies on that drive so I reinstalled XP on A 80 GB drive. I now running XP off the 80 GB drive (C:) have access to the files on the 500 GB drive (D:). I am worried about reimporting my music because I have more than 200 GB of music so it wont fit on the drive C: & also I have manually tagged all my music in iTunes and from my experience in the past re-importing may loose/revert my personal tagging. I will note I like to have iTunes manage my library. I was thinking if I move the iTunes library file from D: to C: it will put ! next to all 20,000 songs asking me to manually relocate all of them, but what if after that I change the iTunes location in the preferences to match the D: location would that resolve the ! file location? Any way I'm stuck any input would be appreciated. Thank You.

As long as you don't have an existing library that is synced with a device or holds oodles of carefully crafted playlists, ratings etc. then...
Hold down shift as you start iTunes. You should get an option to choose or create a library. Click create, browse to root of the external drive and click save so that your library is say X:\iTunes where X: is the letter of your external drive. All new content downloaded to the library will stay on the external drive.

  • Transferring iTunes content from old to new laptop - missing tracks?

My laptop of six years (a Dell Studio) stopped working recently. I took it to a repair shop which transferred all my data - including documents and music - onto an external hard drive.
I then dragged the iTunes content on to my new laptop (a Toshiba Satellite Pro). However, when I open iTunes, it says I only have 12,609 songs (I've been collecting music for over 10 years).
On my iPod, which is still synced with the iTunes on my old (now broken) Dell Studio, it has 13,251 tracks.
Does anyone know a way of finding out which 642 tracks have gone AWOL (and also seeing if I can add them to the new library?)

Choose Consolidate Library from the Library section of the File menu in iTunes after adding each batch to the iTunes library but before unplugging the flash drive or deleting anything from it.

  • Where can I find current information for ver 12 on moving my Itunes library from old to new computer.

I am trying to move my Itunes from Windows 7 Computer to a New Windows 7 Computer. None of the online information post seem to show how to do this with the newest ver of Itunes.
In addtion after it does get moved how to deal with associating my Iphone 5 and Ipad to new computer library.

The process is the same for iTunes 12 as it was for previous versions.  Note that some of the "guidance" available online describes how to move your media from one computer to another without replicating the complete library structure and content.  Doing the latter is essential if you want to preserve playlists, ratings, play counts, etc.
As long as your library is in the standard structure (typically under C:\Users\username\Music\iTunes), with all your media contained within the iTunes Media folder in a structure like this:
you can copy the complete iTunes folder from your old computer to the equivalent location on the new one.  Then, to make sure you're connecting to the right iTunes library database, hold down SHIFT when you start iTunes on the new computer and when you see this prompt:
click on Choose Library..., navigate to the iTunes folder you just copied, select the iTunes Library.itl folder you'll find there, and click Open.
If your library is not structured as above - and particularly if some or all of your media is not contained in the iTunes Media folder - see turingtest2's user tip on Make a split library portable for the steps that will modify the layout of your library to make it so.
This method results in a complete replica of the library that was on your old computer on the new one - this means that your iDevices will sync correctly on the new machine without having to make any further changes,

  • Help moving itunes library from old PC to new mac

Well, I followed the online directions for moving my ipod library from an old pc to my new mac. It says files have been copied and now I see all the song files in the music folder of my new mac, but they won't show up in i tunes....what's up?
Afterwards, I also restored my ipod for a mac and erased everything...so hopefully I havn't screwed up and lost everything! If I had to do the process over, I guess now I can't go back to my old pc and re-do it, right?
    Help...

Drag the folder of music into iTunes.

  • Need help removing apple id from old songs

hi, hope someone can help. just rebuilt my computer and put my songs from my old ipod nano onto itunes. only 3 songs were purchased yrs ago with my ex wife's account. when i click on those songs in itunes to play, it pops up with her apple id. how can i remove that so i can safely move songs back and forth to ipod and add new ones without losing those 3 or re-buying them???

The only way I know of to "remove Apple ID" info off of previous purchased tracks is to have the original ID purchase the iTunes Plus version (DRM free version). That makes it available on all devices, not just authorized ones. They are less expensive to upgrade rather than buying them again outright. Hope this helps and good luck!

  • Need help transferring iTunes library from desk top to lap top

My iTunes is on our desktop (Windows XP if that matters) and I would like to transfer it to my laptop (Vista). Our desktop is old and will be replaced soon. I cannot back up the library to a CD because the CD burner no longer works. I purchased an external hard drive and attempted to do a back up but I don't think it worked...None of my music is purchased from the store...it's all from CD's I own and copied. I have not been able to find any help on the website, so I'm hoping someone here can help me out. I tried this back up by going to the library and clicked export library...it appeared to transfer...seems to be files on the external hard drive so I plugged it into the laptop and tried to import...but it doesn't appear anything happened...I'm getting pretty frustrated!

  • Getting new Hard Disk. Need help with moving files from old one.

Hey guys so here is my dilema. So I have a Lacie 500GB Hard Drive and made the mistake of accidently deleting all my backups.db into the trash but thankfully never emptied that. There was no way to put it back into the backups folder so it caused me a lot of distress. I have decided to grab a portable hard disk instead such as the Western Digital. Heres my thought. I really only want to transfer a few things from the Lacie such as photos, movies, and a few documents from all the backup dates but nothing else. Is there a way to maybe automate so that certain files will transfer over instead of it all?
    Thanks in advance!
On a sidenote, if you have any suggestions for portable, small, lightweight, yet large capacity (at least 1TB) portable hard drives let me know!

    Lacie is a Seagate drive
To move specific files, open the backup database (time machine, backups.db). When you open Time Machine and select a date to restore from, you should see a Finder like view of that particular backup.  Navigate through the backup the same way as you would through the Finder and choose the folder or files you wish to restore.
