Need help troubleshooting imap/gmail account

For reasons not worth getting into I changed my port setting from 25 to 587 (I think) to 25 again. Ever since, I can't get mail to sync with my gmail account.
I have the right account name (gmail address), the right server (imap.gmail.com), the right password, the right server (smtp.gmail.com). I have it set to port 25.
I have turned off (and on) SSL, and checked (and unchecked) "use only this server."
I have not typed in an "Imap path prefix," but don't think I ever did. Any thoughts?

I believe I switched it to 587--whatever number Verizon advised. they they told me that imap accounts were not affected by the 25 ban, so I switched back to 25.
I've fixed the problem however, by deleting the account and starting over, resetting all the accounts online with google and then starting from scratch w/Mail. (Port is now 995.) Thanks for the help.

What are the best settings for gmail as imap in mac mail?
I have my gmail account set up with mac Mail as an IMAP account.
I notice that in the last few weeks?? not sure how long, my mac mail is taking forever to load.  I opened the activity window and it seems like there are so many things happening.  I did find an old account that was still had some activity and while I had delteed it, I did need to do a few more steps to get it out of the process.
Now, as it still seems to take forever for my inbox to fully load, I began looking into the settings.
I am not able to change the settings for trash and I think saving the deleted messages to the server could be a waste of time.  This is the advanced setttings page
the trash is 'grayed out' and won't allow me to uncheck the 'store deleted messages on the server'.  Anyone know how to change this?
Also, I want to uncheck 'store sent messages on the server' as I think that will save a LOT of process activity, but gmail's directions for imap accounts says to leave it checked.  Not sure why, any thoughts?

I'm not familiar with CalbeOne, but you can follow the instructions they provided at their site:
    http://help.cableone.net/HSD/mycableone/migrate/default.aspx
You might also want to make sure you followed their transfer instructions.
Build your accounts in Mail as per the POP or IMAP settings provided. When adding accounts to Mail, when you get to the first screen, you can hold the option key down when you hit continue for more options on the Mail configurations rather than the standard defaults.
If you are viewing these accounts at the gmail website, then you might need to do some configuration there also. I'm not sure on how much they are integrated with gmail.

  • Sync to do items with an IMAP Gmail Account

    Hi guys,
In Mail.app, I have the To Do icon on the left, and underneath it are two folders "On My Mac" and the other named for my IMAP Gmail account. Whenever I create tasks in iCal, they sync with Mail.app, but they all show up in the "On My Mac" folder, and the Gmail To Do folder remains empty.
I'd like to sync all my To Do items with Gmail so I can access them on the iPhone. How can I go about making the To Do items I create in iCal appear in the Gmail To Do folder in Mail.app instead of (or in addition to) the On My Mac folder so they can sync through IMAP?
Hope that makes sense. Help is much appreciated!

This must be one of the most frequent major sources of frustration for iPhone users (are you listening our otherwise beloved Apple ?!). I am otherwise simply thrilled with my iPhone 3G; it is incredible that Apple thought that adults who run their lives on Outlook / Entourage could "make do" with a tasks workaround on their iPhone.
I am in process of trying a new solution highly recommended by several colleagues "Omnifocus" -- not a workaround but a very well-designed and seemingly highly user-friendly task management system which works on Desktop as well as iPhone and syncs via MobileMe. I'm still early into it but so far so good and my very Mac-savvy colleagues all rave; also has won lots of awards (Macworld magazine etc.) It's pricey but might be well worth it. http://www.omnigroup.com/

HELP! my gmail account vanished after downloading ccleaner and chrome.

Your Gmail account is on a web site, not on your computer.
    Chrome is a web browser
You likely just cleaned your caches with CCleaner and it logged you out, log into Gmail again and all should be fine.

She should call Apple support or visit the Genius Bar at an Apple store (make an appointment first at http://apple.com/retail). They will walk her through the process.

You can't use your existing @icloud.com email address as the primary email address for your existing Apple ID.  You have to use a non-Apple email address (such as Gmail).

  • Need help with IMAP Account

Since I've gotten my iPod touch, I decided to make my gmail account an IMAP instead of a POP one. To be honest I was unsure of differences, but was unanimously told that IMAP was better, especially for multiple devices. I've had a little trouble configuring it the way i want though. Here's my problem.
I like to save all my mail for reference. Gmail allow me to do this on there server. Fantastic. Unfortunately this also all gets stored in mail, taking up over a gig on my harddrive. I would like to be able to keep maybe the last 50 messages in my discarded mail, and my sent mail and have older messages be stored just on gmails server so that i may logon and access them when need be.
Also, I find it very confusing to have two sent folders, two junk/spam folders and two trash folders. One seems to be local, one referring to gmail server, both stored on my computer. I would rather have it the simple way (one junk folder yno?)
Hoping someone could help me out/explain.
    Thanks in advance!

Go to account settings and select the correct (non local) folder for Spam/Sent/Trash etc. This should at least resolve the issue with "duplicate" folders.
IMAP stores all mail serverside. What you have stored locally is just a kind of cache for faster reading of mail. You could delete your IMAP-folder on the harddrive (located somewhere under ~/Library/Mail) every day, and your mails would still be there in Mail.app.

  • I need help redirecting Lotus Notes account to Apple Mail

I'm totally at a loss. I've done it with my gmail account, but I'd like to not have to deal with the terrible, terrible Lotus Notes application (not to mention that it takes up a ridiculous amount of CPU).
Can anyone help me POP or whatever my Lotus Notes email to my Apple Mail? I'm not that tech-savvy, so I'm not sure what details I need to provide straight away. If you have any insights, they'd be greatly appreciated!

iCloud will only deliver mail from your iCloud account.  What you can do is set up email forwarding with your other accounts to forward incoming email to your iCloud address, then tell all your contacts to send email to your iCloud address.  (Comcast accounts are POP3 rather than IMAP so you won't miss these accounts.  I set up forwarding from Comcast to iCloud a long time ago.)

  • Need Help W/ Different Signatures & Accounts Using Mail Program

    Hi all!
    I have 2 questions:
    1) Say I send an email from [email protected], but I also have an account with [email protected] in this mail program with a separate mailbox. When I compose my new email address from the mailbox for [email protected] address, the account selected is [email protected], instead. I know there is a way to fix this, but I can't figure out how to do it.
    2) I have different signatures for each of my multiple email addresses in my Mail program. Is there a way to make each one the automatic signature for the account it is being sent from?
I am using the 1.3.11 (v622/624) version of mail on my G4 Mac Mini.
Thanks for any help anyone can give me!

    Hi,
I'm back trying to get some much needed help. Now I'm getting this message when trying to open Premire Elements 3.0 from my C drive. I get the message "Sorry a serious error has occurred that requires Premier Elements to shut down. We will attempt to save your current project." When clicking on OK or the closing X it shuts down. I tried the advice that I received in this forum. I tried deleting "workingset.prsl" . Instead of deleting it I dragged it out of the "Styles folder and onto my desktop. I didn't delete it for fear that I would cause myself more problems. This way if it didn't work I could put it back into the "Styles folder which I did because it didn't work. I'm desperate now. I'm making a video of our 50th wedding anniversary that I have been working on for over a year and now I can't get it opened.

  • IMAP Gmail account won't work properly

Today my gmail account (which I have been using for about 4 years with os x mail) has just been spinning as though its retreiving mail for hours and hours.
I opened the activity window in mail to see what was going on and its just "fetching new mail: updating offline disk cache", "syncing trash" and "copying messages"... along with "syncing with server" and "communicating with server".
I have no idea what its doing.
Meanwhile I've received emails (which I checked on gmails site) but they havent come into osx mail.
Please help because I don't have unlimited internet and its already used 2.5gb to do this and its still going.
    Please help
    Thanks

That image you posted Dave8 is almost identical to what is happening to me.
I've tried all the fixes and nothing has changed. Still churning away seemingly doing nothing while I waste my months internet usage.
Something similar has happening to another account within mail.app 4.2 where my Yahoo POP account has just stopped receiving anything... I can still send though on yahoo.
This probably is a completely different issue but it seems a coincidence that both have happened within a few days of each other.
    Very bizarre.
I have posted about the yahoo issue today too but no-one has got back to me yet.
ps I have another 2 accounts in mail which are still working fine
The issue with the gmail account happened after I attched a bunch of photos and sent them... but one of the emails had too many photos and my computer ran out of batteries after.
Since then its been doing weird things.
Anyway, I don't want to use a 3rd party client.
    Please help
    Thanks

  • Need help switching to Gmail from MobileMe

I'm ditching MobileMe (MM) after several years because it's just not worth the $100/year to me anymore. I now want to start using Gmail IMAP instead with Mac OS X Mail and my iPhone.
I already have a Gmail account and have been using it alongside of the MM account. I have emails in both accounts that I don't wish to lose. But I don't want to keep using separate accounts, either. I would like to forward my MM emails for the remainder of my subscription (until September) to Gmail. I also want to set up Mail on my MacBook and Mac Pro to exclusively use my Gmail account.
I have several mailboxes set up in Mail that are stored on the MM server. Is there a way to transfer those mailboxes and the messages in them to Gmail? The problem if I do this is that there will be a significant number of duplicate messages because Gmail archives all received messages. There would be a copy from my MobileMe account (originally forwarded from Gmail) and a copy of the original message sent to the Gmail account for many of the messages in those folders.
But if I don't transfer the folders over there, I'll lose the folder hierarchy and some of the messages that were sent directly to MM and not forwarded from Gmail.
Any ideas on how I can do this? Thanks.

You might be able to push the emails up to Gmail if you have it set up as an IMAP account in Mail. But Gmail's IMAP support is really quite bad so I don't know how easy or practical this would be.
Note, Apple Mail makes it trivially easy to have messages be either on the server or on your local machine, so there's no reason you can't just move all the mail folders that are on the MobileMe servers to your local machine.
Of course, with a Mac and an iPhone and the new "locate my phone" and "remote wipe" services, I'd think it'd be a bad reason to ditch MobileMe now. Those are two services I think are worth the comfort alone

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities! It sounds like your iPhone is in a status called Activation Lock. There may be a few different ways to get past the Activation Lock in this situation. The following article has the information you need.
