Need help w/hardware acceleration prob!
I upgraded from a Voodoo 3 2000 video card to the MSI G3Ti200 Pro-VT (64 MB DDR) about 4 months ago. The problem is that a game of mine, (Alone in the Dark: The New Nightmare) worked fine on the Voodoo card, but keeps coming up with the following error message now:
"This games requires hardware OpenGL acceleration to run."
I have tried DirectX 8.0 and 8.1, and I have downloaded so many different sets of drivers (from NVidia and MSI), that I've lost track. I currently have the newest Detonator drivers from NVidia loaded. I am at a loss now as to what I should do. ?( I know I could remove the MSI card and use the Voodoo card until I complete the game, but I purposely bought this MSI card for gaming, and do not think I should have to go through all that trouble. (As if there hasn't been enough time wasted already. )
Any help anyone can offer would be greatly appreciated. Here is some of my system info if it helps.
AMD Thunderbird 1.0 Ghz, ASUS A7V133 mobo, 512 MB SDRAM, Windows 98se, Soundblaster Audigy Gamer, Ethernet 10/100, Creative DVD 12x (w/PCI card)
Thanks!
Thanks so much for the response!
Something must have been really puckered up with my computer. I repartitioned and reformatted my C: drive, and reloaded my video and sound drivers, and somehow the game is working now! :D
I'm not sure what was wrong...maybe a registry code or something dumb...
Anyway, thanks again for responding! I really do appreciate it! 8)

Hello I need your help on how to set up Hardware for Premiere Pro CS6
Here is my PC info:
* HP Z800 2x Intel Xeon 5560 (Quard Core) at 2.8 GHz each
* 12 Gb RAM
* PCIe x8 LSI MegaRAID 9260-4i (4-port, SATA-3 6.0 Gb/s)
* 6 SATA-2 port (each 3.0 Gb/s) on motherboard
* 1x SSD Samsung 840 Pro 512 Gb SATA-3 (6.0 Gb/s)
* 2x SSD OCZ Vector 256 Gb SATA-3 (6.0 Gb/s)
* 2x WD Velocity Raptor, 500 Gb SATA-2 (3.0 Gb/s)
* 1x WD Black SATA-2, (3.0 Gb/s) 2.TB, Use as back-up
Here is my plan for the Hard Disk
(1) Use SSD Samsung 840 Pro as Boot Disk, contain OS and SW application
connect to SATA-2 (3.0 Gb/s) I understand I do not use full bandwidth of SSD
That why I buy LSI MegaRAID 6.0 Gb/s to get full bandwidth for other 2 OCZ SSD
(2) Use 2x OCZ 256 Gb/s connect to LSI MegaRAID card and config RAID-0
this drive will be for Cach, page file (since it is Fastest drive in the system)
(3) Use 2x WD Velocity Raptor connect to LSI MegaRAID, config as RAID-0
This drive will use for: project file, input video clip from my camcorder etc...
(4) 2. TB WD use as backup and somthing else
Your suggestion and help is greatly appreciated
Best RegardsThank jim for your suggestion and though,
(1) You wrote: Your drive plan sounds fine, although probably overkill for your current system
--> my question: could you explain what do you mean by that...???
(2) I intend update RAM from 12 Gb to 24 Gb
(3) Graphic card I have is: Nvidia Quadro K4000

Hardware Acceleration for Linux with FireFox 4
'''Is this just a myth?'''
I am using Ubuntu 10.04 64-bit and FireFox 4 stable with a GT 240 and the latest nvidia binary driver. I have this set up as a HTPC through HDMI cable and have audio as well through the HDMI. It works wonderfully! I can watch x.264 and my intel celeron 2.8 GHz doesn't even get out of bed thanks to hardware acceleration.
Now, that is NOT the case while on the web... It is a tall order to watch HD quality flash (although with the [http://demos.hacks.mozilla.org/openweb/HWACCEL/ mozilla hardware stress test] I get 45 FPS). It seems to be that hardware acceleration is still very much in its infancy in the linux environment with firefox 4.
After searching through many threads I have come to find some useless information.
''MOZ_ACCELERATED=1 MOZ_GLX_IGNORE_BLACKLIST=1 firefox'' - does nothing
''layers.acceleration.force-enabled=true'' - does nothing
There seems to be an issue with firefox not recognising the installed graphics card. On Windows machines, the about:support page will report all the graphic card information in the Graphics section in addition to '''GPU Accelerated Windows 0/1''' or '''1/1'''. This seems to NOT be the case in linux. Why? Why doesn't firefox discover the installed graphics card?
Now, if I have missed a memo or been a total newb in this attempt to take advantage of Accelerated Hardware in FireFox 4 for linux '''PLEASE ENLIGHTEN ME''' as to what I need to do. If I have done all the things needed to achieve hardware acceleration and it is just not possible, than the good 'ol folks at mozilla should be a little more transparent when they proudly proclaim that they have released a hardware accelerated browser.
If anyone can shed some light on this predicament please post. If anyone has hit the same wall as I have please post... rant... w/e...MulTirow Bookmarks Toolbar For FireFox 4 Here >> http://userstyles.org/styles/29428

Need help choosing optimal hardware for a laptop that will run AE CS5
BACKGROUND INFO (Questions listed below)
I need some help figuring out the best hardware configuration for a new laptop. I’m a student at a design school and I will be using the laptop to mainly run After Effects and to a lesser extent Photoshop and Illustrator. I don’t need to worry about 3D rendering software or Premier Pro. I am primarily interested in getting the best performance during editing. I am not looking for the best performance for final output. I would prefer to sacrifice final output times for better editing/interface performance.
I will be working with standard definition content and perhaps HD up to 720p on occasion. I do not need to operate in resolutions higher than 720p. My projects are generally animation and use many sources and many layers.
I’ve been reading up on optimal hardware configurations for CS5 but my understanding is still a little foggy and I would like to use this thread to figure out how to build the best machine for my budget. The budget is about $1400 to $1600 CANADIAN after tax.
I DON’T need help finding the laptop. I will search for it on my own. I just need to understand the best hardware to purchase within my budget.
I realize that it is probably impossible to buy the laptop I want with the hardware configuration I need “off the shelf”. Instead I will be looking for a good base model (~$900-$1100) and I will purchase the necessary hardware upgrades separately. I will not be purchasing a Mac.
Right now I’m thinking of a machine built something like this:
- 15”-16” screen (17” models are too big/heavy)
- Mid to high end i5 processor OR entry level i7 quad core
- 8GB RAM (I would go to 12GB, but it’s hard to find a 15”-16” laptop with 3 memory slots)
- SSD to replace HDD (However, if possible, I would like a laptop with dual HDD support or swap the optical drive for another HDD. If I had access to 2 drives, I would have and HDD/SSD combo).
- Medium/high end NVIDIA GPU to take advantage of OpenGL while editing.
QUESTIONS
1) Does the “Render Multiple Frames Simultaneously” option enhance general editing performance (applying filters, scrubbing through the timeline, reverting history states)? Or does it ONLY help speed up RAM previews and final output? Does it reduce the length of RAM previews?
1b) Is this option even necessary to enable on 64bit systems? (As far as I understand it was used to solve a problem where 32bit systems/software would only recognize 4GB of RAM per instance of AE).
1c) If I turn this option on to help with RAM previews, would I be hindering general editing performance in any way? Or does this option have basically zero drawbacks?
2) How come “Actual CPUs that will be used” will read 0 even if the sum total of RAM assigned to the CPUs plus the RAM reserved for other applications is less than the total available system RAM (on a 64bit system)? For example, I currently have 4GB RAM and 2 installed CPUs. I have 1.5GB reserved for other programs and when I set 0.75GB per CPU both CPUs are used. However when I set 1GB per CPU then 0 CPUs are used, even though the total RAM adds up to only 3.5GB.
CPU
3.) Considering the fact that I am more concerned with smooth performance while editing rather than final output speeds, would it be better to get a dual core i5 clocked around 2.5 or a quad core i7 clocked around 1.8?
4.) What is the difference between an i3 and an i5 processor even if they are clocked at the same speed? How does an i5 460M compare on the grand scheme of things?
RAM
6.) Should the quantity of RAM that I get (8GB vs 12GB) be based on the number of cores in my CPU? If so, how should I be calculating optimal RAM based on # of cores. Should I also be counting threads, or just actual physical cores?
STORAGE/SWAP
7.) Should I replace the HDD with an SSD? I'm looking for snappy interface performance while editing. I would think that if the RAM fills up it would be best to have the SSD for scratch/cache.
8.) What performance benchmarks are most important when considering an SSD for After Effects? (4k writes? IOs per second? Max read/write?)
9.) I can afford the OCZ Vertex2 120GB SSD. Would this be a good choice if an SSD is recommended?
10.) Would it be better to have 8GB of RAM and an SSD, or 12GB of RAM and an HDD? Explain why.
GPU
10.) After Effects utilizes OpenGL to enhance editing performance. I will not really be using Premier Pro, so catering to the CUDA Mercury Engine is not a concern. Do high end gaming cards provide significant gains in OpenGL performance? Or do OpenGL performance gains taper off around the mid-range GPUs? (i.e. can you justify buying a high end GTX 260M graphics card for enhanced editing performance versus an "entry level" dedicated card like the 310M?)
11.) What hardware specs are most important when considering a GPU for editing performance in AE? (Memory size? # of Pixel shaders? Core speed? Shader speed?)
Thanks so much for any answers you can offer to these questions. Please make sure that you've read through this page and what it points to.
> 1) Does the “Render Multiple Frames Simultaneously” option
enhance general editing performance (applying filters, scrubbing through
the timeline, reverting history states)? Or does it ONLY help speed up
RAM previews and final output? Does it reduce the length of RAM
previews?
It only increases rendering speed for RAM previews and rendering for final output. In After Effects CS5, it doesn't decrease the length of RAM previews. (In CS4, it does.)
1b) Is this option even necessary to enable on 64bit
systems? (As far as I understand it was used to solve a problem where
32bit systems/software would only recognize 4GB of RAM per instance of
AE).
You misunderstood. Yes, it's still relevant on 64-bit computers. Moreso, in a way. (I'd rather not spend my entire Sunday writing out detailed answers to satisfy idle curiosity, so I'm not going to give all the technical detail to that answer.)
> 1c) If I turn this option on to help with RAM previews,
would I be hindering general editing performance in any way? Or does
this option have basically zero drawbacks?
It takes a small but nonzero time for the background processes to start up when they need to be used and shut down when they're done. And as they sit waiting, they take up a little bit of memory. So, it's not exactly correct to say that there are no downsides to leaving it on. But it's close. I leave it on.
> 2) How come “Actual CPUs that will be used” will read 0 even
if the sum total of RAM assigned to the CPUs plus the RAM reserved for
other applications is less than the total available system RAM (on a
64bit system)? For example, I currently have 4GB RAM and 2 installed

4GB - 1.5GB for other software leaves 2.5 GB for After Effects.
If you have 1GB assigned per background CPU, then the foreground takes 1.2x that = 1.2GB. That leaves 1.3GB for background processes, which is enough for one background process. There's no point in starting only one background process to do rendering, so it doesn't bother. (Note: When background processes are rendering, the foreground process isn't rendering.)
> 3.) Considering the fact that I am more concerned with
smooth performance while editing rather than final output speeds, would
it be better to get a dual core i5 clocked around 2.5 or a quad core i7
clocked around 1.8?
Get the quad-core. That gives you a greater total number of cycles. And After Effects works very well with mutliple processors, even beyond Render Multiple Frames Simultaneously multiprocessing. An entirely unrelated sort of multiprocessing (multithreading) spreads work out to multiple processors.
> 6.) Should the quantity of RAM that I get (8GB vs 12GB) be based on the number of cores in my CPU? If
so, how should I be calculating optimal RAM based on # of cores. Should
I also be counting threads, or just actual physical cores?
The optimum amount is the amount that you can cram into the computer. I'm not kidding. Spend your budget on RAM until you have 4GB installed per processor (and I'm counting the virtual processors due to hyperthreading). If you have a quad-core, that's 8 CPUs with hyperthreading, so the optimum amount of RAM installed is 32GB. You can work with less, but you did ask about optimum. For HD work (i.e., 1920 pixels across), you're OK with more like 3GB installed per CPU. That's what I have at home: 24GB in a quad-core. You're going to assign 2/3 or so of the RAM to After Effects, so 3GB installed per CPU is 2GB per core for HD work in After Effects.
> 10.) Would it be better to have 8GB of RAM and an SSD, or 12GB of RAM and an HDD? Explain why.
12GB of RAM. Because After Effects likes RAM. (If you're thinking of deliberatly using virtual memory to swap memory to the hard disk, don't. That's a performance killer.)
> 10.) After Effects utilizes OpenGL to enhance editing performance.
Not really. If you're on a limited budget, don't even think about the GPU until you've already got the most RAM, the fastest CPUs, the largest number of CPUs, two fast hard disks, and a couple of good monitors. Then, and only then, should you even consider getting soemthing beyond a non-stock graphics card. Yes, OpenGL can be used to accelerate some things, but that's only for the low-fidelity preview renderer. (Pardon the bluntness, but I want to make sure that you heed this.) -
Need help with modifying IDS Sensor in WLC; Null Probe Response problem.
I need help in figuring out how to handle a NULL Probe Response report we are getting from our WCS.
We are getting the following alert from our WCS:
1. Message: IDS 'NULL probe resp 2' Signature attack cleared on AP 'XXXAP_#2' protocol '802.11b/g' on Controller '161.201.97.8'. The Signature description is 'NULL Probe Response - No SSID element'. - Controller Name: XXX-XXXX-XX
And
1. Message: IDS 'NULL probe resp 2' Signature attack detected on AP 'XXXAP#2' protocol '802.11b/g' on Controller '161.201.97.8'. The Signature description is 'NULL Probe Response - No SSID element', with precedence '3'. The attacker's mac address is 'ac:86:74:1e:15:5f', channel number is '5', and the number of detections is '1'. - Controller Name: XXX-XXXX-XX.
Is this something to be concerned with in terms of a potential attack, or should I ignore these types of emails?
According to a previous post here: https://supportforums.cisco.com/discussion/10731846/wireless-system-has-detected-possible-intrusion-attack-signature I need to modify my IDS Signature folder in the WLC. I have no idea how to modify the file itself into the format needed to prevent these intrusions. Could somebody please help me correctly enter the right format needed for this file, or correct me in my thinking. I assume I'm in the right direction but if anyone has further information that could be helpful it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance. The IDS signatures are stored in a file called wlc-sig_std.sig. That file can be edited via GUI by navigating to Security > Wireless Protection Policy > Standard Signatures. The links that you shared contain links to Cisco documentation that leave out the important parts of the documentation. The only way to get that documentation is to pull the existing signatures from the WLC using Commands > Upload File. Read that file for details on the syntax, then adjust your values in the GUI. I've attached a text document with the standard signature file.

Once firefox 4.o was installed, when switching to full screen while watching any internet video produced a white screen but audio still playing. Switching back to small screen has a still video but audio still going. Had to exit and and restart video or open a blank new new tab then delete it and then small screen video would play. Using a mac os 10.5. Disabling hardware acceleration did not fix. went back to firefox 3.6 and all is ok. Any help would be appreciated.
Your hardware was never designed to run that old a version of OS X, it's best to update the application or find another application that is more up to date. Installing Leopard simply will not work on your system.

Help needed on using hardware tokens / Smart Cards for encryption
I need help in filling the following gap in my understanding
I know about
1. Using keys in Java keystores to encrypt/decrypt data (Signing, symmetric encryption)
2. Using Keytool to export a digital certificate to a keystore.
I need help in knowing
1. How the certificate stored in secret device is shared with java key stores. Do I need to use some special library.
2. Is the process of encrypting Secret Key bytes defferent from wrapping the key?
Specifically, I want to use iKey (USB based security hardware token) in my system, which says that it supports
 The PKCS#11 standard library
The MSCAPI and CSP standard libraries
Using automatic certificate registration> We have a current Server with 4 x 4 cores, 64 GB RAM, 6TB HDD, Windows 2K8 R2 and SQL Server 2K8 R2. On this server we have installed 6 SAP Servers(both ABAP and JAVA based). We want to install two more SAP servers on this machine but planning to use the Hyper-V Mode to ensure that there is no conflict. With this background here are my queries.
You should not run SAP instances on the server with the hypervisor (the OS running on the metal). If you want to virtualize, then do it for all instances.
Read
Note 1246467 - Hyper-V Configuration Guideline
Note 1570141 - Key Figures of Virtualization on Hyper-V
> u2022 Is it possible to take a Image of existing installation (6 SAP Servers and SQL Server) that we have done?
If they are running on the same OS you will always take images of everything.
> I think this was possible in VMWare.
So those 6 servers are virtualized already??
> The issue I foresee is that in this image the servers are using Machine Name as host. In the Hyper V mode the host name will change. So how will this work?
The safest way is to do a homogeneous system copy.
> u2022 Can I run the normal windows mode along with Hyper V. Basically we want to keep our 6 SAP servers running and for the two new servers create two hyper V instances and allocate 2 cores and 4GB RAM each. Is this possible? Or as per Microsoft on the root we should not run any server?
According to
Note 1246467 - Hyper-V Configuration Guideline
this should not be done.

X-Fi Fatal1ty PCI/-Express - All Hardware Acceleration Crashing, Significant R
Hello,
I've made a few posts on the forums recently about various topics to help me isolate the issue I am having. At this point, using the latest stable drivers for either a PCI or PCI-E X-Fi Fatalty, any hardware acceleration of sounds is causing my system to bluescreen, freeze or crash the application. Some games give me no option of not using hardware acceleration (ie. Rainbow6 Vegas 2), resorting in my having to change my Sound Acceleration down to Emulation Only. This setting greatly eases off on the sound latency buffers, resulting in sounds that are delayed an entire second. The good news is no crashes and sounds actually sound correct.
A few things to note about my setup,
) I am an extreme computer professional, programmer and developer. My Windows XP SP2 installation is incredibly streamlined; I only have 6 services running and all non-essential drivers removed, resulting in only 69MiB commit charge at startup across processes and ~950 threads. Suffice to say, my system is baby-cheek clean, and I aim to keep it that way.
2) I have been using this setup for many years now. I have been using NVIDIA video cards for the past 5+ years, currently I have a GTX280, and all of them have behaved perfectly with my streamlined setup. I even unregister every single one of NVIDIA's DLLs and stop all of their services, and the 3D Settings Per Application and Color Control Features still all work. Suffice to say, NVIDIA's drivers, although a trite on the large side, are written well enough to keep drivers away from OS services (as it should be).
3) My other hardware is not at fault. I have tested the X-Fis against multiple PSUs, different video cards, multiple fresh installations of Windows and more. I don't use utilities to clean my drivers; I do it by hand. I know exactly what's on my system and what I want removed. Though it may be egotistical to state, I'm pretty much knowledgable of every component my system has running.
4) As a result of this knowledge and my desire to keep my system clean, I ONLY HAVE INSTALLED the drivers necessary for my X-Fis to work. I DID install Creative Audio Console, but the application seems to have too many dependencies on OS Services, since it never runs, either reporting that my audio device cannot be found, or the application simply does nothing and a bogus error is written to the event log. I have enabled DCOM to make sure it wasn't dependent on that, and it still does not work. To summarize, yes, I have tried enabling every service I could find that it might depend on, and none worked. Creative Audio Console is, to me, a piece of ill-written software. In comparison to NVIDIA's excellent control panel which works no matter how much stuff I remove, Creative's Audio Console fails.
I do not have the Creative Audio Licensing Engine, I do not have the Creative Audio Control Panel, I do not have the Creative Labs Audio Engine Service, I do not have CMSS or any other OS-level services that normally get installed. Remember people, drivers are NOT TO BE DEPENDENT on OS services; they are protocols defining to the OS how to communicate with the hardware. Any necessity of additional "service" software is way past the acceptable standards of drivers.
5) That being said, I had no issues with stability using older drivers on my PCI X-Fi Fatalty cards. These drivers were dated early 2007, and did not install all of the X-Fi Effects, Utility Effects, 20x Effects, etc. drivers. Mind you I preferred these drivers since they were much simpler to track, as they only had a few .sys files.
As it stands, I want to use my PCI-Express X-Fi Fatalty, but I want to use it without all of Creative's bloat. I want streamlined, driver-only installation that does not NEED external applications to reinforce its stability. Creative, IS THAT POSSIBLE? Can someone, by definition of the Windows Driver Management signature system, just use your drivers alone for stable gaming? If not, you're violating standards and should never have received WDM cert. on any drivers. I highly recommend you do NOT spit back, saying that for proper functionality, performance, stability, etc. you must install all of Creative's supplemental software. These requires are in violation of the ethics behind software drivers and receiving Digital Signature Certification from Microsoft on your drivers.Infinity7,
I do not want to sound arrogant, but the list of options you provided me with is the stereotypical laundry list of system configuration information for any piece of hardware. I'll address everything though.
) No, I'm not using an NVIDIA chipset. I'm using an ASuS Maximus Extreme, just like you said, which uses the X38 chipset.
2) I'm using Windows XP 32-bit, SP2. I have 2 GiB of memory and do NOT have PAE enabled.
2) I don't have onboard sound; our motherboard has a PCI-E sound card which I do not have installed.
3) I don't have any spyware. I don't browse the web on my system. I know every program running and have no rootkits. Nothing is hiding from me.
4) I don't use antivirus programs. I've been on the internet for 5+ years now and have never needed an antivirus program, since I know when I have a virus and I remove it manually.
5) I have the latest version of DirectX, June 2008 Redistritutable. Note that most of the post DX 9.0c revisions are meant for D3D, and have nothing to do with DSound.
6) I've tried every PCI-E slot I have, including both PCI-E x slots and both PCI-E x6 slots. The card is currently in one of my x6 slots.
7) Any 998+ system is going to have IRQ sharing. Between ACPI BIOSes (more IRQs), Windows XP and drivers, IRQs are rarely in conflict, aside from occasional USB device IRQ sharing. To answer your question, yes, currently both my video card and sound card are sharing IRQ 6. I have done enough work to isolate that IRQ sharing is NOT the issue, though, especially through my testing of the PCI card and the PCI-E card experiencing the same issue.
8) The output sampling rate of games is not always configurable, and never makes a difference. The X-Fi always upsamples everything it gets as it is, though I guess there is some validity to the sampling rates that are streamed into the buffers.
Now, to address the rest of your suggestions I say read my post. I specify that changing acceleration to emulation results in perfect stability and sounds that sound correct, however the relaxed latency results in sounds? that are easily delayed by second. This is unacceptable for gaming, obviously.
As for your ordering of driver installation, it really is through lack of knowledge that people state what order drivers must be installed in. Even NVIDIA's drivers probe for any change through the interfaces they use when the system starts, so any chipset drivers that drastically change the devices in Windows will be detected as changed by other drivers. Be that as it may, I didn't even have the X-Fi in my computer when I installed this latest version of Windows. Only after I had installed everything did I begin to install the Creative Drivers (whilst avoiding all bloatware).
Most importantly, note that I determined when the crashing started occuring with my original PCI version of the card. After I installed the drivers that started including the additional .sys files (X-Fi Effects, 20X effects, etc.) the crashing occured. As far as I know I cannot use older drivers with the PCI-E model, so rolling back to those previous drivers is out of the question.
Lastly, for my system specs,
Motherboard : ASuS Maximus Extreme X38 Chipset, BIOS 0907
CPU : Intel QX9650 (OCed from 3.0GHZ to 3.6GHZ, stable through Orthos testing)
Memory : (2) GiB Corsair Dominator Sticks, 4-4-4-2
Video : eVGA GeForce GTX280 FTW Edition (PCI-Express)
PSU : Thermaltake Toughpower 200W (backed by UPS)
Sound : Creative X-Fi Fatalty PCI / PCI-Express (tried both independently) -
I NEED HELP!!!!
I have been having problems for more than a week now. It all started just after I updated to IE8, Firefox 3.6.6 and Adobe Flash Player 10.1. It started with just games crashing everytime I loaded one on Facebook. I would get a message saying the flash player crashed and to refresh the page. Then it started crashing my entire system everytime I loaded a game. A couple of days ago my system crashed and didn't recover. I had to do a complete system restore. I'm not trying to imlpy that's any fault of Adobe's, however, it is a bit strange that I had no problems until these updates. I've had this pc for almost 5 years. After the system restore and losing everything, I reloaded the browsers, and the flashplayer. And in case you're going to say anything about having 2 different browers, I have to. My school uses IE and I hate it! So for everything else I use Firefox...including Facebook games. Anyway, the problem is, my system is still crashing everytime I try to load a game. The entire system is still crashing! I've read through the forums and tried various so called fixes including uninstalling and reinstalling (and yes...I used the Adobe uninstaller), unchecking or checking hardware accelerator in settings. I'm tried of "trying" things. I need this fixed before my computer is permanatly damaged beyond repair!!!! Occassionally I have to use your flash player to view videos for school assignments! I can't risk being in the middle of a school assignment or Lord help me...a quiz and having my system crash again!! I am not opposed to going back to version 9 (I had no problems at all with it), which I did try to find but could only find one for programmers!!!

Thank you.....Based on my experience reading on the Adobe Flash forum and the Mozilla Firefox forum, there isn't a "universal solution" to a crash problem. That is, what works for one person might not work for another -- even though both are doing the IDENTICAL same thing. I don't know why that is, but it is true.
For example, I have ALWAYS had Flash 9 and Firefox 2 (the highest versions of each that I can have for my Windows 98 operating system) crash on YouTube, whereas on other web sites the Flash videos would play great. So, I read on the Firefox forum that one man had success on YouTube with a particular archived Flash 9 version and Firefox 2. So, I installed THAT Flash version with Firefox 2, but it still crashed on YouTube. To watch YouTube with Firefox 2, I eventually had to install Flash 8, and that works fine.
You said Flash 9 crashed on opening Farmville on Facebook. Did you try other sites with Flash content? Maybe it has something to do with the interaction with Flash 9 and Farmville, in the same way I had a bad interaction with Flash 9 and YouTube.
I can understand that you don't have time "to keep trying this and that", as you say, but I think you will have to do a little experimentation, since everybody's system is a little different. If you are systematic about it, it shouldn't be too bad.
First, you might want to download a couple more "Netscape" type browsers (these use the Flash PLUGIN like Firefox does) and try them with Flash 10. (I have Netscape 7.0 and Opera 10.10 in addition to Firefox 2, but your newer operating system would probably allow you to get the latest versions to try first -- these are good browsers, in my opinion.) The neat thing about installing a Flash plugin is that it installs on EVERY "Netscape" type browser that you have at the SAME time, so you don't have to install it 3 times if you have 3 different "Netscape" type browsers. It is kind of like the Adobe Flash uninstaller removing EVERY Flash Player installed on your system.
If Flash 10 doesn't work with the latest versions of Netscape and Opera, try Flash 9 with these browsers. (If I understand you correctly, you have already established that Flash 9 and 10 don't work with your latest versions of IE and Firefox). If you don't have any luck, then I would just concentrate on trying older and older versions of IE and Firefox with the latest Flash 9 that you downloaded.
If nothing works, just for the heck of it, you might try Flash 8 to see if ANYTHING will work. You can download the archived Flash 8 versions at http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/142/tn_14266.html
In folder r42, which has the latest archived versions, run flashplayer8r42_win.exe for your "Netscape" type browsers, such as Firefox, and flashplayer8r42_winax.exe for your IE browser. This is the _win.exe I'm using to successfully watch YouTube videos with Firefox 2.
IN THE INTEREST OF SAVING YOU TIME AND ENERGY, YOU MIGHT DISPENSE WITH DOWNLOADING THE NETSCAPE AND OPERA BROWSERS, AND JUST CONCENTRATE ON OLDER AND OLDER VERSIONS OF IE AND FIREFOX WITH FLASH 9.
Sorry for all these words. I hope you can put together something useful from all this verbiage.
GOOD LUCK ON YOUR FINAL.

Problems with 3D Hardware acceleration on nVidia geForce 7300
I have a system with a Core 2 Duo CPU and a nVidia geForce 7300 graphic card. I am trying to run a 3D robotics simulation program (Webots 7.0.3) and its performance is abysmal. I never had graphic performance issues before---but then again, I never tried to run this particularly intensive simulation software. Other simulation software compiled from source (e.g. player/stage ) runs smoothly.
Where can I start to look to find out where the problem is?
Here is what I've been able to find out so far:
1. Hardware acceleration seems to be enabled:
[stefano@polus]$ glxinfo | grep -n5 "direct rendering"
1-name of display: :0
2-display: :0 screen: 0
3:direct rendering: Yes
4-server glx vendor string: NVIDIA Corporation
5-server glx version string: 1.4
6-server glx extensions:
7- GLX_EXT_visual_info, GLX_EXT_visual_rating, GLX_SGIX_fbconfig,
8- GLX_SGIX_pbuffer, GLX_SGI_video_sync, GLX_SGI_swap_control,
2. glxgears reports very poor performance: about 60FPS. The software manufacterer says their product needs around 2000FPS to run smoothly
[stefano@polus]$ glxgears
Running synchronized to the vertical refresh. The framerate should be
approximately the same as the monitor refresh rate.
301 frames in 5.0 seconds = 60.157 FPS
299 frames in 5.0 seconds = 59.781 FPS
3. The software (i.e. Webots) is proprietary, and their linux version is built against libjpeg version 6.2. Archlinux currently runs libjpeg 8, so I had to manually install the older version.
4. The software runs satisfactorily on my Kubuntu laptop, an old Lenovo T61 which has similar (or similarly aged) hardware. In other words, the CPU seems to be adequate and the prolem lies with the graphic setup in my Archlinux system, I believe.
5. I read the nvidia pages on the Arch website, the nvidia-linux pages and the Xorg pages on how to set up xorg.conf. It did not help.
Some info on my system are appended below.
Any hint greatly appreciated.

Why you get 60FPS? you have your answer there.
I noticed that and was wondering about it. I am not familiar with glxgear at all and I am not sure about the exact meaning of the statement about framerate. But one of the developers of the software I am trying to run sent me this glxgear output, obtained on a recent Ubuntu system running under VMWare (on a Windows host, I presume):
$ glxgears
11030 frames in 5.0 seconds = 2205.791 FPS
11492 frames in 5.0 seconds = 2298.289 FPS
What gives? Are they running a different version of glxgears or is there some hidden switch in glxgears that unties it from monitor refresh rate and makes it work as a benchmark tool (man glxgears did not report any)? -
MSI K8T Neo2 FIR, need help installing drivers
Hi there,
I need help with installing drivers. Here’s my setup:
CPU: AMD Athlon 64 3500+
Mainbord: MSI K8T Neo2 FIR (VIA K8T800Pro)
OS: Windows XP Professional, SP2 installed
ATI Radeon 9600 Pro
I updated per MSI Live Monitor, but when I run ‘dxdiag’, I says I have to update the ‘VIA standard host bridge’. I don’t know what this is or where it can be found. It could be I saved the updated drivers in the wrong file (F:\ Program Files\...) where F is my primary harddisk and the drivers should be saved in F:\Windows\ System 32.
Also, my hardware setup tells me there are two videocards 'installed': a Radeon 9600 Pro and a radeon 9600 Pro (secundary). Do I need to de-install the secundary one?
Here’s a piece of my most recent dxdiag:

Help would be very much appriciated, thnx! The two vis.cards issue is normal, it sees the primary output (VGA) as a device and the TV-out a separate device.
Go to device manager to see if there's any device on ur rig that doesn't have drivers.
Did u install the 4-in1 drivers, get the latest version from the MSI support site.

I want to disable hardware accelaration because it freezes my pc at startup.
I am convinced that HA causes this problem.
My OS is Crunchbang (http://crunchbang.org/about/) .
My pc is a pentium 4, nvidia 5200 gpu, nouveau drivers.
I ask for help at MozillaZIne Forum (http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewtopic.php?f=38&t=2767265) and at Crunchbang forum.
I disable HA in firefox (preferences and about:config) without result.
In FireFox General Options "Use hardware accelaration when available" is disabled.
In about: config gfx.content.azure.enabled is false and gfx.direct2d.disabled (user set) is true.
Also xorg.conf doesn't help me.
In xorg.conf (configuration file of Nouveau GPU driver) hardware accelaration is disabled.
The only solution is to disable nouveau hardware accelaration editing the boot menu (kernel boot parameter : nouveau.noaccel=1) and firefox works.
But HA is necessary for other applications like OpenOffice.
If HA is disabled menus, buttons and other UI components do not show properlyHello,
Try disabling graphics hardware acceleration. Since this feature was added to Firefox, it has gradually improved, but there still are a few glitches.
You might need to restart Firefox in order for this to take effect, so save all work first (e.g., mail you are composing, online documents you're editing, etc.).
Then perform these steps:
*Click the orange Firefox button at the top left, then select the "Options" button, or, if there is no Firefox button at the top, go to Tools > Options.
*In the Firefox options window click the ''Advanced'' tab, then select "General".
*In the settings list, you should find the ''Use hardware acceleration when available'' checkbox. Uncheck this checkbox.
*Now, restart Firefox and see if the problems persist.
Additionally, please check for updates for your graphics driver by following the steps mentioned in the following Knowledge base articles:
* [[Troubleshoot extensions, themes and hardware acceleration issues to solve common Firefox problems]]
* [[Upgrade your graphics drivers to use hardware acceleration and WebGL]]
Did this fix your problems? Please report back to us!

Adobe Flash Media Live Encoder 3 - Video Hardware Acceleration Warning
I have been looking for an answer for this error for a few days without any luck.
I just loaded the Adobe Free Encoder 3 and the Flash Media Server (Free Version) on a Dell PowerEdge 1950 running Windows 2003 server standard edition with Service Pack 2. The computer has an Intel Pentium III Xeon 2.66GHz Quad core processor with 4GB RAM. I am using an Osprey 240 video capture card.
The computer was previously running Windows Media Encoder and it was working fine, but I needed to upgrade to a flash stream.
Whenever I start the Adobe Flash Media Live Encoder I get the following error:
"The video card's hardware acceleration level is set too low. Open the Display Properties, Settings tab and click Advanced, then select the Troubleshoot tab and increase the Hardware acceleration setting. Then restart the application, etc...
I did as instructed and it did not work. I also tried changing the display settings to lower and higher resolutions. I also updated the video card to the latest drivers. I double checked the hardware requirements. http://www.adobe.com/products/flashmediaserver/flashmediaencoder/systemreqs/ and it looks like I'm ok.
I also checked the approved hardware list http://www.adobe.com/support/documentation/en/flashmediaencoder/FMLE_DeviceMatrix3.0.pdf.
The Osprey 240 is not listed, but that seems to be working fine.
I'm thinking that the internal video card that I have may not be compatible with the Adobe Encoder. The video card that I have is an ATI ES1000 embedded video that has only 16MB of RAM.
I have the latest version of DirectX - I ran DxDiag and it shows that I'm running DirectX 9.0c (4.09.0000.0904), Under the Display tab it says that the DirectDraw Acceleration, Direct3D Acceleration and AGP Acceleration are not available.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.
