Need help! White screen and hard drive

I have a MacBook Pro A1211 I got off Craigslist. It needed a new logic board and hard drive so I got both. My problem is I just found out the hard drive has windows on it and when I power on the MBP all I get is a white screen.  My question is is there a way to get windows off that hard drive while its installed in the MBP? I've tried every command I could find online to push when I power on the MacBook but it does nothing. I bought a copy of snow leopard 10.6 factory sealed and put it in the super drive but it just spins for a while and then stops. The fans constantly run also but I'm new to MacBook so I don't know if that's suppose to happen. I got the disk management to come up one by holding down option and power on but it didn't give me the option of choosing the SuperDrive and I can't get it back up. It's almost like the keyboard isn't working. If there's any suggestions y'all can give me I'd appreciate it.

  • Need help with networking external hard drive

    Hi,
I am working on a corporate network and I have a Western Digital My Book Studio Edition external hard drive attached to a Mac OSX 10.4. i have other Macs connecting through the network to this Mac and accessing the external hard drive and it works just fine for that.
What I need help with is the fact that I also have several PCs on the same network (all XP), that need to connect to the hard drive and access the files. I've been able to connect to the Mac using the XP by accessing the IP address. I also set the Mac up with password credentials so that I had to log in to the Mac to access the files. But when I try to access the Mac, it only shows the main computer drive as the only available share and no external drive.
Does anyone know how to access a Western Digital external drive on a Mac from a PC through a network?

For an external hard disk drive or other (different) system shared
storage devices to work, they probably should be formatted in a
format seen by both operating systems.
If the WD unit is not seen by Windows computers on your network,
the WD may have been formatted in HFS+ for the Macintosh. That
is OK unless you need a Windows computer to access the same.
    The Macintosh can see and use a standard Windows disc format;
so the external drive may need to be reformatted away from HFS+
if that is really what is going on (and archive any data on the suspect
drive elsewhere, since it will be lost to reformatting overwrites)
and then both Mac OS X and Windows should see the files on there.
    And Macs set up to run Windows may also see the non-Mac format;
without having to re-boot via BootCamp, if that option is in use.
As to the other question(s) I really have no idea at this point in time.
And since that may be the rub, hopefully someone will follow up here.
    Good luck & happy computing!

  • White screen, new hard drive, blue screen. Help!

Tried to boot my MacBook Pro (2011) and just had blank white screen. Tried to boot from Mountain Lion bootable flash drive and just get a blue screen.
Installed new hard drive. Same thing. Suggestions?

After the dealer looked it over, he determined it has a bad logic board. However, searching online, I see the cause of all these 2011 MBP failures is due to the Raedon graphics card in them. Apple was replacing free for iMacs with the same part, but so far isn't doing the same for MacBook Pro's. I have emailed Apple, intend to call them, and posted on their support forum as well as other ones. FRUSTRATING.

  • I need help setting up the hard drive I'm my TC to upload and download files remotely

Can anyone tell me how to setup my TC hard drive to access VIA the Internet

Are you trying to connect using win7?
If so I have bad news.. it won't work. The TC only exposes AFP to internet.. not SMB. And there is no AFP add on for windows. You can only do it from a Mac.
People do open SMB to the internet on a strange port.. look it up if you want to infect your system and expose all your files to the internet.. there is no security doing this.. so I refuse to consider it an option.
The only real way from windows is to get a vpn router.. bridge the TC and use it plugged into the vpn device.. vpn into the network and you can safely use SMB.. you cannot do this directly with the TC. It might well have ipsec for icloud but you cannot access it.

  • White Screen- New Hard Drive Same issue

I had a white screen. The MacBook Pro would do nothing. The only way I could get it to work was by pressing option when powering on but even then I tried everything reinstalling Lion. When I tried to reinstall lion it would pop up with an error message. It would not even let me choose a location. I ordered a new harddrive and I am still having the same issue. White Screen when I turn the computer on unless I press the option and power button and Still an error message when I try to reinstall lion. ANY HELP WOULD BE AWESOME!!! THANK YOU!!

If you want to preserve the data on the boot drive, you must try to back up now, before you do anything else. It may or may not be possible. If you don't care about the data, you can skip this step.
There are several ways to back up a Mac that is unable to fully boot. You need an external hard drive to hold the backup data.
    1. Boot from the Recovery partition or from a local Time Machine backup volume (option key at startup.) Launch Disk Utility and follow the instructions in this support article, under “Instructions for backing up to an external hard disk via Disk Utility.”
    2. If you have access to a working Mac, and both it and the non-working Mac have FireWire or Thunderbolt ports, boot the non-working Mac in target disk mode. Use the working Mac to copy the data to another drive. This technique won't work with USB, Ethernet, Wi-Fi, or Bluetooth.
    3. If the internal drive of the non-working Mac is user-replaceable, remove it and mount it in an external enclosure or drive dock. Use another Mac to copy the data.

  • I need help installing a new hard drive in a MacBook

I have a MacBook white 13" and need to replace the hard drive, however, I am having problems replacing the drive, what a difference with a Lenovo or HP laptops, it is real easy. I hope this has change in Apple later models.
I checked a video from OWC (http://eshop.macsales.com/tech_center/index.cfm?page=Video/macbook/intel13/intel 13m.html), I tried following this video however the drive does not fit all the way in to the slot the way the video demonstrates, I do not want to force it, I may break the laptop.
I am not able to to see inside the slot and check the pins to verify which way is the correct way.
Can some one please help me?,
    Thank you
    Mario

I am back, sorry to be so soon, I did not espected any other issue, but I am new to the mac world.
First I erased, formatted and partition my drive.
Second I try restoring via the time machine and it worked, but the first time it asked me for my password, it would not take it.
Third I was able to install MAC OSX 10.5 with my DVD and restore everything with the Time Machine and I it logged me in, I changed my password and restarted and now it just restarts and restarts and restarts, I think that it may be permissions in the new drive, when I ran the verified permission it reads that permissions differed.
Is there a way to boot safe mode in the MAC?
I read something about firmware password, should I be concern? could this be an issue?
    Thank you so much

  • I need help finding a replacement hard drive/IR sensor cable for my laptop.

I have a 17" Macbook Pro from September 2009, and the hard drive cable has ripped at the junction where the hard drive cable and the IR sensor cable meet.
My brother needed to use my comp to try to transfer stuff from the hard drive from his broken laptop to an external hard drive, and the cable ripped the second time he was fiddling with it.
    Here are some pics:

    http://i48.tinypic.com/23r0j5t.jpg
    http://i47.tinypic.com/f4r6gh.jpg
When searching for "macbook pro unibody 2009 17" hard drive/ir sensor cable" it doesn't come up with any for the 17" but it comes up with a bunch for 13" and 15" and it seems like the 15" ones would work for my computer.
(Like the one in the picture on this page: http://www.ifixit.com/Guide/Installing+MacBook+Pro+15-Inch+Unibody+2.53+GHz+Mid+ 2009+Hard+Drive-IR+Sensor+Cable/1520/1)
I'm having no success finding a cable that looks just like the one in my comp that's specifically for the 17" that goes to the hard drive AND the IR sensor. For example, all I've been able to find so far are things like this:
    http://www.ifixit.com/MacBook-Parts/MacBook-Pro-17-Inch-Unibody-Hard-Drive-Cable /IF162-015
which does not appear to be the cable I need, as it doesn't seem as though I could attach the IR sensor cable to it.
Any and all help would be greatly appreciated.

  • Need help setting up external hard drive for FCE project

    Hi folks,
Basically I am looking at making a 20-30 minute video this summer of my motocross adventures and what not and have equipped myself with an iMac (2.93 GHZ Core2Duo 640GB 4GB) and of course, FCE. I have tried smaller projects before (ranging in length between 20 seconds to upwards of a few minutes) but have noticed an overall decline in computer speed which I am under the impression is being caused by the 10s of GBs of video project files and what not that seem to be scrawled away within my computer. Before I made any videos, my computer was sitting around 560 GBs of free space. Since making maybe 3-4 videos (50/50 iMovie and FCE) its down below 400GBs. I'm not sure whether it's the raw video files or the projects themselves that are so large, but it's slightly frustrating. Is there any sort of software (either third party or apple) that can look at your hard drive and tell you exactly where all the biggest files are? I'll post this question in the iMac forum as I realize this is for FCE, but I thought if anyone knew of one it would be extremely helpful.
Anyways, I have a SimpleDrive 320GB external HD that I plan to use as my external for making this project within FCE and would like some help in terms of how to set it up with FCE, what are the best settings etc. It is currently formatted with Windows, so I will also need help in setting it up for a Mac. I do have about 120GBs used on it already and was also wondering if I could keep this when re-formatting, but I'm pretty sure I already know the answer to that.
Sorry for the long-winded post; any information on this or something related would be fantastic. Thanks.

Yes, you can use your external HD with FCE ... provided it is formatted as +Mac OS Extended+ and is connected via FireWire.
You will need to back up any data that is on the drive that you want to keep. Before reformatting it. Formatting erases everything that is on the drive.
Use Disk Utility (located in your +Applications > Utilities+ folder) to format the drive.
After formatting the drive, go into +FCE > System Settings+ and change your FCE scratch disk location to the external drive.

I need help picking the correct/best hard drive upgrade for my MBP. It is the 15" 2GHz Core Duo. Came with a spacious 90GB drive.
    Suggestions and recommendations very appreciated.

It will take almost any 2.5 inch sata drive.
Take a look at www.newegg.com and www.macsales.com to see what's out there and how much it costs.
Toshiba have a 320gb 2,.5 inch drive in the works, but it's not quite out yet and will be expensive.

  • Need help with HP dv5 Hard Drive.

I believe I need to replace my hard drive for my HP dv-5.  What I need to know is can I put in any Sata 2.5HD or does it have to be the Toshiba HD that is currently installed?  I understand there could be issues going with a Western Digital with drivers maybe....???  But from a cost prospective I'm think of going with a much larger capacity HD and maybe going from 5400RPM to 7200RPM.  Currently I have 320GB and I'd love to move up to a 500GB or even a Terabyte.
The reason I believe my HD has crash is because when I start up my laptop it asks me to install the OS. I've been having issues with this laptop for some time now, it seems to loop at start up without ever loading.  And now with this OS issue I feel it to be much easier to just purchase and replace the HD.  I also have Windows Vista installed on this laptop which I feel is absolutely awful, I have Windows 7 and would love to be able to install this on my dv-5.
Additionally, I have attempted to load Windows 7 from USB flash drive onto this current dv-5 and it fails.
If anyone has any comments or suggestions, has anyone done this successfully...???
Any help with this would be greatly appreciated and thank you in advance.
    Thanks,
    -Scott

  • Need Help with my External Hard Drive

Hey Guys, so i bought a 2TB WD Passport for Mac about 2 months ago...It worked great, but then i dropped it by accident. It was connected to my Mac at the time, so when it fell it disconnected from the cable and fell. Now when i connect it, the external hard drive powers on. I can feel it on like always, the little light turns on as well, its flickering as if it was in use. The thing is that it wont show up ANYWHERE on my mac. Any help?

HEAD CRASH  ,    your HD is extremely likely kaput
    hard drive moving parts
Some of the common reasons for hard drives to fail:
Infant mortality (due to mfg. defect / build tolerances)
    Bad parking   (head impact)
Sudden impact /head crash  (hard drive jarred during operation, heads can bounce)
Electrical surge   (fries the controller board, possibly also causing heads to write the wrong data)
Bearing / Motor failure   (spindle bearings or motors wear during any and all use, eventually leading to HD failure)
Board failure   (controller board failure on bottom of HD)
Bad Sectors   (magnetic areas of the platter may become faulty)

  • Need help connecting to network hard drive

I just purchased a new MacBook Pro upgraded from PC. We have a Seagate BlackArmor NAS 110 hard drive that works perfectly well with our PC and home media. Other devices such as our PS3 can see and connect to it just fine. We still haven't been able to get the mac to "see/connect" to the drive. We've gone through the hard drive installation guide but we always end up with an error message that says "connection Failed" there was an error connecting to the server after inputing the username and password to the supposed drive connection. I thought I was doing it right but its not working. I don't know what to do next. Can anyone explain what I should do?

I have the black armour NAS 110 as well. I can access the drive w/ the discovery software. When I try to use i as backup the time machine does not recognise the drive. Also new to macs. Any help appreciated.
