Need help! Windows won't boot in partition.
Loner T, Here is where I have gotten to so far:

Windows won't boot with Virtualization Techonology enabled
My Windows won't boot if I enable Virtualization Technology. I've read the other forums and have tried to both disable and update the Bluetooh and Wifi drivers before enabling virtualization again but that's not working. I've also updated the Bios but that doesn't work either.
Laptop: HP Envy TouchScreen 15-j052nr

Hello, I need help to retrieve deleted information to partition an external hard drive. What should I do?
I'm not about the question, and giving you the right answer requires me to ask a few more questions.
Do you want to retrieve deleted information for future usage, or to completely delete a partition? The latter is straightforward: simply erase the partition. The former is more complicated: it's very difficult, even using available commercial software, to recover deleted information. If the data is important, you may want to contact a professional like DriveSavers. It won't be cheap. -

Need help, system won't start up
When I turn on the system I hear a loud squeaking noise that could be coming from the hard drive, it does it for moment then a blank white screen appears w/ a tiny folder in the middle of the screen with a "?" blinking on and off on the folder. I never had any problems until now. What can I do, any suggestions.hi capitala1,
+When I try to install the operating system to the internal drive, I don't see a destination option for that drive like I did for the external+
Do you mean that it doesn't show up when you try to startup holding down the option key, or that it doesn't show up in Disk Utility when started up on the external disk?
+...You think the drive is bad, if so, what can I do to retrieve some of the data off of it.+
Yes, it sounds like your hard drive is bad. Do you have access to techtools or Disk Warrior? either of these may be able to repair the drive enough to extract your info from it, if disk utility can't.
I know that there are shops that specialize in extracting info from bad hard drives, but they tend to be pretty expensive. I am sure others on this forum will be able to help you find one if you are interested.

PS it isn't going to help this time, but remember in the future, backup, everything important to you regularly! -
Windows and OSX won't boot after partitioning
Hi so I have a 2012 MacBook pro, it is running mountain lion and I also boot camped it and installed windows 7. I partitioned the hard drives correctly and it has been running great. Today I was on windows and used the disk manager to shrink my windows partition so that I could create another seperate 5gb partition for school. After I did this, my computer was running fine until I restarted it. When the windows logo appears while booting, it freezes and it flashes a blue screen and then shuts down. When I hold down the option key to boot into Mac OSX, the only option that comes up is windows, not even my recovery disk.
How do I fix this? I need to boot into these because all of my school things are on these drives. Please helpNever in my reply did I say I don't use Boot Camp or not to use boot camp. But I don't. And I don't have Windows installed in its own partition. I use a VM for Windows on my Mac for the few Windows programs I run on the Mac.
I started to read that reply but then didn't finish it as that poster was talking about Win 8 and AFAIK right now neither Boot Camp or the driver package supplied by Apple for Windows supports Win 8. Even though it isn't much different then Win 7.
It does create a Separate partition, as does Win 7, that is a hidden partition, just like Win 7 does, but it is different in some ways from Win 7. So that may of been the original problem that poster was having.
In any event I don't think that post will help the OP of this thread. But I may be wrong. Only time will tell.
The big reasons I don't use Boot Camp is I can't stand Dual Boot system and that I can't Re-Partition the BC partition without screwing the whole system up. Tried it, didn't care for it, then removed it and went VM.

HELP, K8N won't boot into bios or anything. need to reset board to default
I got playing with the MB and tried HT 5x, it immediately shutoff and now won't let me into bios to reset it, so i'm waiting to hear from MSI. I tried clearing CMOS and everything, the damn thing boots on for 5 seconds and goes off. Screen stays black. Has to be turned on from PSU as power button at front won't do it.
CPU: AMD64 3200+ (230FSBx11 = 2.5Ghz)
MB: MSI K8N NEO
MEM: OCZ 3700 Gold Dual Channel (2x256 in slots 1 & 2)
VC: ATI 9800 Pro 450/380
PSU: ANTEC True 550w
Its not heat related as I've been able to run lots of tests and my case is open right now. It just won't boot at all, black screen and shuts itself off. All I need to do is get into bios to change HT back to 4x, but I can't. Any ideas to reset to default?I tried having it unplugged for over 8hours while i was at work, tried taking the battery out, tried taking both memory out. It starts up (screen stays off) and then shuts itself off after 5 seconds still. I turn the power off, then back on at the PSU (the power button at the front won't turn it on or off) then it starts all over again.
My ABIT IC7 would reset to default it turned off and on 3 times in a row...why dosen't this board have something like that. arg. So anyone know how I can get this damn board to allow me into bios? -
Partitions changed to DYNAMIC and now Windows won't boot
I made a significant error when trying to format a new partition by letting Windows Disk Manager convert all partitions from Basic to Dynamic (I am not sure why this is even possible, let alone the default action).
My W510 boots just fine, but the bootloader no longer loads an OS. I had both W7P and Ubuntu 11 in the menu. Memtests were also available.
How do I fix the bootloader?I'd probably try converting those dynamic disks back into basic. There's probably some program to do it either from a bootable environment. Otherwise, plug the drive into a secondary slot in another system and do it from there.

Unable to install windows 7 on boot camp partition
Hello everyone!
As the title says, I'm trying to install windows 7 on my macbook - the 2009 13 inch model- and failing at it. I have been peeking around the net and I haven't found any solutions, so here I come.
If I'm not wrong I need to format the partition, since boot camp does a FAT32 forma and it won't work for Windows 7. I do that from the windows installer, when it asks me for a driver (no idea which one it's talking about). Then it allows me to choose the partition to install windows but the installation process doesn't seem to work for some reason. I've done it before and I've had similar problems (I just kept trying things untill something worked ) but apparently I couldn't do it now to safe my life.
I hope I've been detailed enough for you to be able to help me. Thanks ^^It depends of the OS X version you're using. If it's 10.6, insert the Mac OS X DVD and install them.
If it's 10.7 or 10.8:
1. Press X key while your Mac is starting to start into OS X.
2. Open Boot Camp Assistant, download drivers and burn them into a DVD or USB drive.
3. Start into Windows and install Boot Camp drivers -
Activate Windows 7 in Boot Camp partition on iMac 27
Hy,
I have a problem with Windows activation.
My configuration:
iMac 27.4 GB Memory, dual processor, OS X Snow leopard, Windows 7 in a Boot Camp partition
I use Windows 7 in 2 ways:
by starting the machine in the Boot Camp partition (with 4 GB memory)
by opening a session VMWARE Fusion under Mac OS X (with 1 GB memory)
No problem (except: very slow with starting and black screen - problem discussed in the same forum)
My problem: how to activate Windows?
I activated Windows after starting via Boot Camp: no problem
But when I use Windows via VMWARE Fusion, I receive a message “you must activate this version of Windows 7 - there remain xx days” I understand that the hardware configuration is not the same one, but I use Windows 7 out of only one machine (but with 2 different hardware configuration), therefore nothing illegal.
How can I solve this problem?
Has somebody the same problem ?
Thank you in advance.hart40 wrote:
Did this actually work? My understanding is that Windows 7 regards this as two separate installations and that it won't work?
I'm trying to find out if I have to chose between bootcamp or Fusion or if I can work with both.
You need to activate Windows 7 in BootCamp and in Fusion. Microsoft allows multiple free activations. If these are the only two activations for your copy of Windows, just follow the online activation process. It is quick and simple. If this process fails for some reason, call the automatic activation line. You'll be stepped through the activation by an automated attendant (robot). In the very unlikely event that the automated call activation fails, call and talk to a Microsoft activation person who will help you out. -
BSOD every 20 minutes running windows XP in boot camp partition
Has anyone else had this problem? Everything was running fine for a couple of months on my new mac OS X until around the time I installed the recommended updater to Boot Camp 2.1, then Windows XP started crashing every 20 minutes exactly, BCCode : 1000007f. One line of discussion suggests it's a boot camp problem but uninstalling the update hasn't helped. Others seemed to think it might be a graphics card incompatibility. I've now been advised that it's a Norton 2008 problem and I should uninstall that although I haven't tried yet. But the every 20 minutes must be some clue to what's going on. Does anyone have any ideas?
Thanks Axel. I removed Norton 2008 with the uninstall tool and hey presto no more BSODs so far (24 hours). I've also replaced Norton with Kaspersky. I guess this is really a Norton/Boot Camp compatibility problem but it's weird that Norton ran without problems on my system for five months until I installed the Boot Camp 2.1 updater. Having said that, I now see that there are a couple of discussions on this in the Boot Camp > Installation and Storage topic list ...
In one of these, Mark Davidson3 resolved the problem by completely uninstalling/reinstalling his Boot Camp partition and is now running Norton again with no problem but I wonder if that's because he must have uninstalled/reinstalled Norton in the process. Like me, the crashes had started for him only after he installed the Boot Camp 2.1 updater. Presumably Norton would run again on my system now too if I reinstalled it.
Has anyone out there talked to the Norton/Boot Camp people about this? -
Windows won't boot! Windows protection error.
I just upgraded my mother board to a MSI and now I can't boot to Windows at all! I'm using two different versions of windows on seperate hard-disks (never at the same time) and both won't boot. I can get to Safe-mode in Win98. My system was fine before I upgraded.
System:
Motherboard - MSI, K7N2 Delta, Nvidia nForce 2 based.
CPU - AMD XP 2400+ T-bred.
CPU Cooler - 2 x 8000-rpm fans on Kanie Hedgehog (big heatsink).
Memory - Kingston 256Megs, two sticks for 512megs. (Says: Kingstort /VR, KVR266X64C25/256. I don't know much about memory.) It fits the DDR1 slot.
Graphics - Nvidia 5600.
Power supply - New, Allied brand, ATX-style, 450Watt.
OS - Windows 98, Windows XP (SP1)
(Win98 and WinXP are on seperate hard disks. Never used at the same time).
Problem:
1. When I boot to Win98 it just says "Protection Error, you will need to restart your system".
2. When I boot to WinXP it says "A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer."
Fixes and diagnostic:
1. Diagnostic lights on mother board cycle and and say OK.
2. I can get to Win98 Safe-Mode or Command prompt.
2. I don't have any other PCI cards installed except video.
3. I'm using only one of the memory sticks just to rule out the other (tried both).
4. I have most of the on-board peripherals disabled (sound, ethernet, serial. parallel, etc...).
5. Tried upping the voltage on memory. Same problem.
6. Tried setting memory for 100mhz. Same problem.
7. Tried reseating the memory. Same problem.
8. CPU temp is well within range at around 109F.
Questions:
What could the problem possibly be? I will try anything!
1. Is there some kind of safe mode for the hard drive settings?
2. Is there some kind of safe mode for memory speed?
3. Give me some hints! Upgrading the MB shouldn't be this hard! What am I overlooking? Thanks for any replies!Quote

Obviously you would have to change the jumper short every time you retry each HDD.
I am not following your line of thinking here. Win98 needs to on the primary drive, primary channel in most cases, yet XP can boot from any location, and any drive letter. So why would there be a need to constantly swap jumpers? Only thing needed is the Boot.ini file on the main drive, and it will boot from any OS listed there. -

My fiance's iMac (intel based) running snow leopard (upgraded from Leopard a couple months ago) will not boot past the logo and spinning lines. This started after at attempting to restart after installing updates to Safari and iTunes.
When booting in verbose mode I get these lines:

Then it just stops and does nothing.
I've unplugged everything except the apple keyboard and mouse. Ethernet is not connected.
She doesn't seem to have the original disc that came with the computer, but I do have the Snow Leopard upgrade disc.
What do I do? It won't boot in Safe Mode either, freezes at the same spot.
I'm not a particularly savvy Mac user as I recently embraced them when we moved in together.
Any help would be greatly appreciatedRepairing permission is not the first answer. Should try to run fsck and reset the PRAM
Start up your computer in single-user mode to reach the command line.
Note: If necessary, perform a forced restart as described in the Emergency Troubleshooting Handbook that came with your computer. On desktop computers, you can do this by pressing the reset/interrupt button (if there is one) or holding down the power button for several seconds. On portable computers, simultaneously press the Command-Control-power keys. If your portable computer doesn't restart with this method, you may need to reset the Power Manager.
At the command-line prompt type:
/sbin/fsck -fy
Press Return. fsck will go through five "phases" and then return information about your disk's use and fragmentation. Once it finishes, it'll display this message if no issue is found:
** The volume (name_of_volume) appears to be OKIf fsck found issues and has altered, repaired, or fixed anything, it will display this message:
***** FILE SYSTEM WAS MODIFIED *****
Important: If this message appears, repeat the fsck command you typed in step 2 until fsck tells you that your volume appears to be OK (first-pass repairs may uncover additional issues, so this is a normal thing to do).
When fsck reports that your volume is OK, typerebootat the prompt and then press Return.
Your computer should start up normally and allow you to log in.
Resetting PRAM and NVRAM
Shut down the computer.
Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command, Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
Turn on the computer.
Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys. You must press this key combination before the gray screen appears.
Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
Release the keys.
Your computer's PRAM and the NVRAM are reset to the default values. The clock settings may be reset to a default date on some models. -

So, the only product that's actually new is the nForce2 400 which looks like a low-cost version of the Ultra 400 chipset. Unlike its feature-rich brother, the nForce2 400 offers only a single DDR controller and will not be able to support the MCP-T south bridge. However, it will still offer full support for the new 400MHz FSB, DDR400, up to 3GB of memory and AGP8X support. Not bad at all, especially IF NVIDIA sells it significantly cheaper than the Ultra 400 chipset.

Windows Won't Boot With USB Drives Attached
I just installed Windows 7 on my Mac mini but it won't boot into Windows automatically if there are USB drives attached. I have to hold down the option key at boot time and select the Windows partition manually for it to boot, unless I remove the USB drives first, then it will boot into Windows on its own. Does anyone know how to fix this annoying problem?
Sounds like your mini is set to boot order: boot from USB first.
On a PC you could go into BIOS and change boot order and enable/disable USB booting.
Not sure why or what is on the USB bus, type of drive and device that could also make a difference (and not be universal to the Mini) -
HELP: T440s won't boot after unsuccessful memory update
I have a T440s that came with 4GB RAM. Purchased a G.Skill Ripjaws 8GB DDR3L 1600 SO-DIMM (1.35v, PC3-12800, 11-11-11-28) from Newegg and installed in T440s. I did disable the internal battery from BIOS before installed the memory. However, I found my T440s won't even boot. I then tried the memory chip in two other laptops and found this SO-DIMM is defective so it's on the way back to Newegg.
Now my big problem is that my T440s won't boot anymore even with original configurations. Push the power button, there is no response from T440s. However, I do observed LEDs blink. When only use battery, then LEDs give one short blink every few seconds. LEDs will give four short blinks every few seconds if I plug in the wall power supply.
Did I kill my T440s ? Any way that can wake it up or I just need to contact Lenovo for warranty service?
Any help/suggestion is appreciated. Thanks a lot.

The what now?
