Need help with 2 users accessing same catalog in pse12 organizer mac
I recently went from pse7 windows to pse12 and pe12 mac version, as my old pc ran out of space, and lots of photo projects to do. I installed the programs, and started using under both my and my wife's user names.
Now, I would much prefer that we use the same catalog under organizer, but don't know how, short of using the Revel "cloud" feature, which neither of us want.
I tried managing catalogs, and moved my user catalog to the "shared" area, but cannot get my wife's pse12 organizer to see it.
Any help would be appreciated- I have put a LOT of effort into the organization of about 3,000 family photos in my catalog, and would hope that both of us could access the fruit of this effort.
Thanks for the input. I do not want us to access it at exactly the same time, as we share one imac. I would just like to have us both see the same catalog when we are logged in, when the other is offline. Does your answer still apply? Thanks again!

Need help with multiple users of a catalog
I run Lightroom in a small office and several of us have to have access to the image catalog, using Windows XP. To accomplish this, the images were placed on a shared external drive, the catalog was created on a USB flash drive and Lightroom was loaded on multiple computers. Everything has been fine and this strategy will work for us. However, when I move the catalog to another computer (logged on as a different user) the catalog appears with all keywords and image adjustments, but my import presets are not available. The preset files are located in the preset folder that accompanies the catalog, but they won't appear in the drop down box within Lightroom when attempting to import images. My temporary solution is to recreate the import presets, which I have done for one other user so far, but I don't want to have to do that for each new user. If one looks for the preset file, it is located in a folder called "user", but I have not figured out how to get Lightroom to recognize and use the preset files after logging on as a different user. When I move the catalog (USB flash drive) back to my computer (original computer, original user), then everything is fine again and I can see and use al the presets.
Anyone use Lightroom accross users or machines? Any way to get Lightroom to "see" and use import presets by multiple users?

If each user has a preset folder/directory, could you not create a symlink that points to oen on the USB device? And then keep all the presets there?

I need help with viewing files from the external hard drive on Mac
I own a 2010 mac pro 13' and using OS X 10.9.2(current version). The issue that I am in need of help is with my external hard drive.
I am a photographer so It's safe and convinent to store pictures in my external hard drive.
I have 1TB external hard drive and I've been using for about a year and never dropped it or didn't do any thing to harm the hardware.
Today as always I connected the ext-hard drive to my mac and click on the icon.
All of my pictures and files are gone accept one folder that has program.
So I pulled up the external hard drive's info it says the date is still there, but somehow i can not view them in the finder.

Will Lightroom help with multi user access to library in OSX 10.9?
I just bought my first Apple gear. iMac and iPads for family. I downloaded some photos to the iMac via iPhoto and tried to allow other users to share the library. This caused major headaches. Prompts to repair permissions constantly appeared, even after permissions were changed. After a visit to the Apple store for a One to One session, it seems that the OS cannot provide this simple functionality (in windows I simply changed folder permissions and it all worked, access granted).
In OSX 10.9 I have to create a disk image, move the library there and add tweaks to auto mount the disk image volume on startup;

I have a NAS for backups, so buying another external HD I don't need is a waste of money. Surely there must be a simpler way for all users of our iMac to have access to the photo library. I thought it would be a simple folder permission issue.
Would using Lightroom instead of iPhoto to download and organize my photos and videos solve the problem or is the problem due to the way OS 10.9 works? I have no photos stored on my iMac's HDD, because it just doesn't work. Allowing access to the library when stored on the iMac's HD across multiple users was a headache that a senior Apple phone support tech struggled with for almost 2 hours (using remote access to view my system), and still the solution fell short. The man was very patient and friendly. He was also knowledgable. Everything he directed me to do made sense. We went around in circles setting permissions for almost 2 hours. It didn't quite work. Still had users being denied access.
Seems crazy, but having no photos stored on my brand new iMac is the best solution I can come up with. Glad I didn't spring for the SSD. -
Hello. I have deployed roaming user profiles in our home office. We are using Windows Server 2012 on our datacenter computer, which has a partition with all our home directories. All was working beautifully for quite some time.
I re-installed Windows 8.1 Pro on my laptop. I am able to log in to my profile from the new installation.
The problem that has started happening seems to be some sort of permission problem with my home directory, but I am not sure how to go about diagnosing it. I haven't changed anything in the policies or remote profiles.
The symptoms:
When I try to run an installation program from my documents/downloads/desktop (remote) folders, UAC asks for the administrative credentials as expected, and then I am asked to enter my user credentials. If I do so, I sometimes get a message about duplicate
connections to a share, and the installation program does not execute. "Multiple connections to a server or shared resource by the same user, using more than one user name, are not allowed. Disconnect all previous connections to the server or
shared resource and try again." I am confused, because I am entering credentials for the same user name as the one I am logged in with.
To work around, I have to copy the executable to a folder on my workstation hard drive and run it from there.
Another symptom is when I download anything from the internet, chrome will reflect a "Failed - Download error" message with the download. If I re-attempt the same download several times, eventually it will succeed. This appears to be due to my
downloads folder being on the remote computer.
I am looking for any guidance on how to remedy these symptoms. I suspect there must be a setting I have forgotten to change in the local computer, because nothing has changed on the server since it was operating properly.

Need help with external user authentication

I need some help to set up an external user authentication in Oracle DB 10g. Using the documentation at

I added the user alex to my linux system and checked the parameter os_authent_prefix:
SQL> show parameter os_authent_prefix

I created the oracle user alex using
CREATE USER alex IDENTIFIED EXTERNALLY;
as well as
CREATE USER ops$alex IDENTIFIED EXTERNALLY;
The parameters in the sqlnet.ora are set to
NAMES.DIRECTORY_PATH = (TNSNAMES, HOSTNAME, EZCONNECT)
SQLNET.AUTHENTICATION_SERVICES = (ALL)
Being the local user alex on the linux server I can login:

As far as I know you should have been logged in as alex on the client, and using sqlplus /
However, from 10g onwards Oracle comes with Oracle Wallet, which stores the password encrypted outside the database in a file, called wallet, and which is accessible from anywhere.
You would better use that.

Need help with basic user events in Queued state machine example
I have written a little queued state machine example to try to teach myself about creating and using user events. The objective of the machine is to periodically choose a number (I'm doing it now with a control instead of a random number generator for troubleshooting), and compare that number with the number I have set in a control. When they match, I want to cause an event to fire so I can do something about having found a match. The examples in the LV Help file references show the events within the event structure, but I want to reach out of a state and cause an event ....
Can someone point me in the right direction here?

Here is the final version...not bulletproof, but does have a queued state machine using a user event to cause an event to fire.

Need help with network user accounts on Mac server App on Yosemite, any tips?
I've been trying to set up a small network with the Server app on Yosemite. I don't want to do anything crazy with the server, I'd just like to know how I can set up network user accounts so that they can login from other Mac computers on the same network. I already have Open directory set up, the Macs that will be used on the network with the server have already been joined to the server under login options. I have created the network user account, I have also joined the user account to a group that I created. When I try to login to the network account from one of the Macs, it doesn't work. I'm pretty rookie with Mac server, can anyway give me any pointers of what I should be doing? Or if I am doing something wrong. Thanks guys.
The most important step, once you've got Open Directory and DNS set up, with Local Network Users set up in Server.app, is to make sure that all client Macs are using the server's IP address as the primary DNS server in System Preferences > Network, and that they have joined the Network server in System Preferences > Users and Groups > Login Options.
Having said all that, I have just spent hours setting this all up only to find out that Mail doesn't currently work with Network Homes in 10.10.3 / Server.app 4.1.
I will be hoping that Apple recognise the bug, and put out a fix soon. -
I have recently had the problem where my I am unable to play any quicktime video off the internet. This includes movie trailers and itunes music video previews. Quicktime works fine with all other videos off my mac. The only solution that I found was that it works if I login as a different user.
So my question is how can I create a new user that will EXACTLY mirror my current user settings and folders?
Please help.
LawrenceWell I only get the error message when I try to run video off the itunes music store or off safari. itunes videos i purchase i am then able to view and can view all other videos already saved locally. When trying to play online videos the program (safari and itunes) simply closes and i get the message the the program unexpectetly quit. this is the report that shows when i ask for more details:

Need help with transporting User Exit Variable in CMOD ZXRSRU01
Hello Gurus.,
I changed the existing user exit variable in CMOD ZXRSRU01.,before changing neither it ask for any transport request, nor when I activated the include program .
Well., I tried this........I went to goto-> Object Directory Entry.,
changed the Package and person responsible for and then it asked for transport request...but this dint work...
Now., how can I capture the changes in a transport request, so that, i can move the changes to production system?
is there anyway to solve my problem?

I checked the Lock Overview in the Object DIrectory Entry and found out that it was capturing in different request. I released the request and when I tried to change the code, it asked for new transport request.

If you look to query the amount of members in all the groups you define, use OR instead of AND.
When you use AND, you define that the result must be a member of group1 AND group2 AND group3. You should use OR to get the members of the groups, even though they're just a member of one of them.

The query compiles fine, but when I'm prompted to input the value for "&branch_number", I get an error stating "invalid identifier". I make I input the value correctly, but I still keep getting an error. Can anyone tell me what I'm doing wrong? (v.br_no is a CHAR(4 byte) datatype, if this helps.)
On an unrelated note, what's the difference between using only one ampersand, compared to using two ampersands? (ie. what's the difference between "&branch_number" and "&&branch_number"?)Are you providing a char-value? That is are you enclosing it between single quotes?
You could also do this:
select v.veh_vin, v.veh_make, v.veh_model, v.veh_regonumber, c.cond_desc
from vehicle v, condition c
where v.cond_code = c.cond_code and v.br_no = '&branch_number'
order by v.veh_make, v.veh_model;Which prevents you from having to provide the quotes every time.
The double ampersand will prevent being prompted twice (or as many times as the variable is used inside the query).
Eg.
select *
from dual
where &i = &i
/Will prompt you twice to provide the value for i. Whereas:
select *
from dual
where &&i = &&i
/will only prompt you once.

Need help with setting up a photolibrary on server that can be accessed/edited by multiple users
Hi:
I would like to develop an in-house photolibrary for our graphics department. The goal is to be able to add keywords to all our images so that we could have a more dynamic means of searching through our countless scanned images. Lightroom works great with regards to keywording and searching.
To make it so all the computers in our office could have access to the images, I created a photolibrary on our server that can be accessed by any of the computers in our graphics dept. However, when one computer adds keywords to an image, that info does not show up on any of the other computers. Perhaps this is an issue with the trial version and we need to get the license? A few other people suggested that it might have something to do with my export settings - I tried to play around with the settings but had little luck...Any Advise?

LeoThanks for your thorough reply. Is there a way to have one MASTER computer that could create the keywords and have the other computers access the master computer's catlogues - or something of that sort. We are small graphics dept. with three people so even that would suffice.
Lightroom is not a networked application, and cannot be set up so that multiple computers can access LR via a network.
The only real workaround with LR is to put the catalog and photos on an external HD and then physically connect the external HD to the computer of the person wanting to use it. So only one person can use the catalog at one time.
You can look up Digital Asset Management (DAM) software on Google if you really need to have multi-user access and networked. -
Need help with user defined function
Hello SDN,
I need some help with a user-defined function. My source message contains multiple
generic records (1000 char string), and my target message is 1 header record,
then multiple generic records. See description of source and target messages below:

Basically, what I need to do in my user defined funtion is to map the first record
in my source record to the 3 header fields, then map all of the rest of the records
(starting from line 2) into the GenericRecordTable.
Can someone please help me with the code for the user defined function(s) for this
mapping?

1. To create a new user-defined function, in the data-flow editor, choose Create New Function (This
graphic is explained in the accompanying text), which is located on the lower left-hand side of the
screen. In the menu, choose Simple Function or Advanced Function.
2. In the window that appears, specify the attributes of the new function:
Name
Technical name of the function. The name is displayed in the function chooser and on the data-flow
object.
Description
Description of how the function is used.
Cache
Function type (see above)
Argument Count
In this table, you specify the number of input values the function can process, and name them. All
functions are of type String.
3. In the window that appears, you can create Java source code:
a. You can import Java packages to your methods from the Imports input field, by specifying them
separated by a comma or semi-colon:
You do not need to import the packages java.lang., java.util., java.io., and java.lang.reflect. since
all message mappings require these packages and therefore import them. You should be able to
access standard JDK and J2EE packages of the SAP Web Application Server by simply specifying the
package under Import. In other words, you do not have to import it as an archive into the Integration
Repository. You can also access classes of the SAP XML Toolkit, the SAP Java Connector, and the
SAP Logging Service (see also: Runtime Environment (Java-Mappings)).
In addition to the standard packages, you can also specify Java packages that you have imported as
archives and that are located in the same, or in an underlying software component version as the
message mapping.
b. Create your Java source text in the editor window or copy source text from another editor.
4. Confirm with Save and Close.
5. User-defined functions are limited to the message mapping in which you created the function. To
save the new function, save the message mapping.
6. To test the function, use the test environment.
The new function is now visible in the User-Defined function category. When you select this category,
a corresponding button is displayed in the function chooser pushbutton bar. To edit, delete, or add the
function to the data-flow editor, choose the arrow next to the button and select from the list box
displayed.

Workgroup needs to access same catalog
We just purchased and installed six Lightroom licenses on computers in our research lab. Several of us work on the same project, using photos that reside on our network drive. I have sadly just discovered that catalogs cannot live on the network drive and each individual user cannot see the edits, tags etc. that other users have made to a set of photos on the network drive. This presents us with a big problem, as we all need to be working on the same catalog. Is there any way to solve this issue or to work around it?? This will almost defeat our entire purpose of purchasing this software if we cannot figure out a solution. Thank you for any suggestions!
I think that working simultaneously on the same photo and live view changes is impossible.
Let me tell you what we figure out during group work. First of all we import all material on selected computer (automatically write changes into XMP selected) and synchronize global things like tags, camera calibration, noise reduction etc. We agreed to use the same ratting method and color flags.
Then we divided arbitrarily all RAW files into separate folders (one for each of us) and copied all files on each hard drive. Then each person import files to his Lr, keeping in mind responsibility for his sub-folder. After postprocessing we share only XMP's with others and use scan for metadata updates to see results. We used picassa album to comment results. Group leader fixes minor things or asked individuals to change something and send back XMP.
