Need help with actionscript 2 (root.attachmovie)
Hi all! I have a big problem at work. Here is the situation. I have an html passing a variable as an array to my flash. In the flash i want to call a couple of symbols depending on the variable from html and display them as a slideshow. I need to add these symbols dynamically but i dont know where to start. I have created all my movie symbols and linked them for actionscript. I have created a simple line of code just to display one symbol using _root.attachMovie and the symbol does not show. here it the code:
_root.attachMovie(usb, usb,1);
usb.x = 276.15;
usb.y = 199.50;
Now the symbol should be visible right? What am i doing wrong?

Need Help with ACTIONSCRIPT for Interactive Music Video
I am trying to create an interactive music video in After Effects and Flash.
The concept is that while the music video is taking place the user can decorate the hair of the woman with any of the objects they select. There will be predetermined animations and destination spots but the user can choose whatever objects they select to be delivered to the predetermined spot. I need to figure out how to let the user to select an object that will become part of the animation. I created a PDF Roughly explaining what I am trying to do. If anyone can help me I'd be very grateful as I am more versed in After Effects, I don't know ActionScript well enough to execute what I am trying to do.
Below is a rough example of what I am trying to do. There will be a music video of an animated woman singing. As she is singing the user will be able to click any of the objects , below the numbers 1-10. Below it is illustrated that the user wants to press the blue number 2. If the user presses the 2 the 2 will animate in the mouth of a bird to a predetermined pre-animated spot. I assume I need to send a movieclip to a blank holder on the timeline and use a gotoAndPlay() action ??? I am not well versed in ActionScript so any advice would help
Now whatever number (movieclip) the user chooses next needs to be placed in another blank spot in the timeline? Below the user selcts the Pink 5.
If the user just wanted to Place two "Blue 2's" then the "Blue 2's" would follow the same animated path and end up at the same predetermined space.
If the user selected just 5's and 7's they would go to the predetermined preanimated paths
How would I go about writing the Actionscript for this?Look, I hope you don't have false expectation that by knowing one piece of AS capabilities you will be able to accomplish your task.
If I say that the code for placing one MovieClip into another is:
clip1.addChild(clip2);
will it make any difference in terms of implementation?
Also, you say "select." This may mean a lot of thing: click, drag and drop, mouse down, etc. I am saying that implementation tightly depends of definitions that you give.
I don't know the extend of your AS skills, so it is not easy to figure where to start helping. Also, forum, perhaps, is not the medium where someone will write a lot of code for you. It is good for getting answers to very specific questions and solutions. This is when you have some code in place already.
What I would suggest is to start developing a very rough concept - no video, no birds, no numbers - just a static background image of the person you have in your first post. If you advance to an application that will allow user to select a square, place the square into another one - it will be a good start. -
Need help with actionscript for media controller
I seem to be having a slight problem. I've been looking
around and everything I see is for .flv playback. Anyways, here's
my problem.
Client wants a video that's interactive. When a transition
occurs a simple tex button shows up which links to certain web
pages. Deploying this as a .swf would be no problem, but they want
a controlbar with it so a user can scrub back and forth in the
video. So the best way to do this would be progressive or
streaming.
I created a source file that utilizes the "loader component"
and inserted the "media controller component". I'm not very good
when it comes to actionscript and can't seem to find the proper
script which utilizes the media controller so the user can scrub
back and forth. Everything else seems to work fine with the loader
as it loads an external .swf file.
Just need to get the controller working properly. Total
frames of the swf is a little over 3,000 and dividing the total
frames by 30 was 107.7 seconds. So I round that to 108 seconds. The
online docs seem to be fragmented and not always consistant
especially when i'm not using the flvplayback or display.
Does anybody know the actionscript for this? Or where I can
find the information on this? I've associated the loader with the
controller and vice versa in the behaviors panel as well if that's

Need help with actionscript (flash professional)
Ok so its been a while since I've used flash and i need a
little bit of help. I've searched through the help books and tried
to figure it out on my own but im stuck.
I'm making a website for my music page using flash
professional on Mac OSX.
I'm trying to make a menu along the left side that when you
press the "more" button at the bottom of multiple other buttons it
will make the set of links (which i have as buttons) switch out
with another set of links. (also buttons)
I cant get this more button to do it though!

The reason I say something seems corrupted with the file is
because I took your button out of the movieclip and used it with
the code you had for the movieclip, which should have worked as you
had it on(release){ gotoAndPlay(2)} because for whatever reason,
buttons don't consider the guy holding them as their parent...
bitter adopted orphans I reckon.
but it didn't work, and I gave up trying to figure out why.
Sometimes files just need to find a new home in another
file. -

On two of my pages, I want a link to an external swf file that i created with slideshowpro. How do i link the button to the swf file??Yeah, you're missing what I'm explaining, so I'll try with a little more detail, though you won't learn by being handed a solution.
An event handler function is the function that you are assigning your event listener to call when you assign an event listener. For the code you showed, your group of event listener assignments all point to the same event handler function... clickSection. So you need to create another event handler function for the other button you want to click to open a different browser window... it has to have a different name than the one you already have.
Let's say you call your button swfBtn
swfBtn.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, clickSwfBtn);

Note that you probably want to have your swf in a web page rather than linking directly to it. -
Need help with configuring web root and root url URL
Hello Folks,
I have been trying for a while to the flex 4 tutorial which asks you to connect to a mysql database. I have been able to configure the DB but cannot figure out what my web root and root url should be. Is there a web service that needs to be deployed or started. Would it be the IP address of the database that I created ( I tried that ) . I get the idea that an apache service must be started somehow on my flex environment and then I must find the root of the apache server. I dont see an apache directory anywhere. I am finding this difficult to know where to begin.Hi,
First you need to be running a web server on your computer something like wamp/mamp is usually the better choice as most people have had the best success with this server setup(and it has all the current services like php and myssql)
When you use the wizard the path to your webroot is usually whre you located the wamp/mamp install, for windows it maybe something like c:\wamp\www not 100% sure about macs but I think the 'www' folder on a mac is 'htdocs'.

What errors are you getting? It's hard to tell what the
problem is if you don't provide a little more information.
However, buttons are simple. After clicking on the button on
the stage, go to the Actions panel, and code like this will work

I need help with controlling two .swf's from third.
I have a problem where I need to use a corporate designed
.swf in a digital signage solution, but have been told by the legal
department that it can not be modified in any way, I also can't
have the source file yada yada. I pulled the .swfs from their
website and I decompiled them to see what I was up against.
The main swf that I need to control is HCIC.swf and the
problem is it starts w/ a preloader, which after loading stops on a
frame that requires user input (button press) on a play button,
before the movie will proceed and play through.
What I have done so far is to create a container swf,
HCIC_container.swf that will act as Target for the HCIC.swf, and
allow me to send actionscript to the file I'm not allowed to
modify.
I managed to get that done with the help of someone on
another forum. It was my hope that the following script would just
start HCIC.swf at a frame past the preloader and play button, and
just play through.

is a media-controller.swf, that is being loaded by HCIC.swf that
has the controls including the play button to start HCIC.swf.

What I need to do is automatically start the HCIC.swf file
bypassing the pre-loader and play button without editing it or the
media-controller.swf in anyway. So all the scripting needs to be
done in HCIC_container.swf.
I know this is confusing, and its difficult to explain, but
if you look at the files it should make sense.
ActionScripting is far from my strong point, so I'm
definitely over my head here.

When I compile this in Flex Builder 3 it says: The element type 'mx:Application' must be terminated by the matching end-tag '</mx:Application>'.
but I have this end tag in my file, but when I try to switch from source view to desgin view it says, that: >/mx:Script> expected to terminate element at line 71, this is right at the end of the .mxml file. I have actionscript(.as) file for scripting data.

It looks to me like you are terminating the <mx:Application> tag at the top. The opening tag should end like this: resultFormat="e4x">, not resultFormat="e4x"/> (Remove the /).

Please I need help with this app I am trying to make for an Android cellphone and I've been struggling with this for a couple of months.
I have a main flash file (video player.fla) that will load external swf files. This is the main screen.When I click the Sets Anteriores button I want to open another swf file called sets.swf.The app is freezing when I click Sets Anteriores button

The problem is when I test it on my computer it works but when I upload it to my phone it freezes when I click Sets Anteriores button.
Please help me with this problem I dont know what else to do.
thank youMy first guess is you're simply generating an error. You'll always want to load this on your device in quick debugging over USB so you can see any errors you're generating.
Outside that, if you plan on accessing anything inside the SWF you should be loading the SWF into the correct context. Relevant sample code:

If you're doing this on iOS you'll need to stripped SWFs if you plan on using any coding (ABC) inside the files. You mentioned iOS so I won't get into that here, but just incase, here's info on stripping external SWFs:

Hi, My name is David and I followed a course creating my own website from Lynda.com by Paul Trani. After that I created my first own webste. After I finished it, everything was working well in flash and firefox. I have only one problem and question concerning the feed back form for sending info from my website to my emailaddres. I created my website “LisbonDreamWalking”in Flash CS5 pro. I herein have a contact page, where people can send an email for a walk in Lisbon, date,the number of people etc. Now I want through my ISP / host funpic.org, that the input, info text fields to be sended to my emailaddress [email protected]. My mail URL adress iss: http://lisbondreamwalk.li.funpic.org This is a free host, so they don't work with forms like in the course, and I need some additional info for the php. I have a REAL problem that I need help with
many thanks to kglad for all his help last week with a problem but it hasn't fully sorted it out. I have a site with 908 buttons. Basically a person clicks a button, makes a donation (through paypal) and then that button gets their name displayed when the mouse hovers over it. Essentially the button becomes the property of the person who makes the donation. The problem I need help with is how to disable each button when someone clicks it. Disabling a button isn't the problem. I need it disabled only when the person has made a valid donation. Each button has a unique instance name (b001 - b908). There must be a way.

I would love to be able to complete it in actionscript though as I would be learning something new.
When a user clicks a button, and goes through the paypal process, I need the clicked button to be disabled.
It has to be such that it gets disabled only when a user has made a donation through paypal. For example, plenty
of people may just click on the buttons as they are checking the site out, without any intention of using the paypal
facility. This is just human nature. Obviously, I don' t want any buttons disabled under these circumstances.
I was thinking, do I need a statement such as .......... "on returning from paypal, disable the clicked button"
Or is it just a case of......... "on returning from paypal, remove the event handler"
Or is it something completely different, I require, (please don't say a brain would be helpful).
Is there some generic code out there that could help me out please. -

3. Getting Your Certificate Officially Signed
C. Select the self-signed certificate, then click File > Certification Request > Import CA Reply.
I can get the certificate in to the Filr appliance but from there I'm stuck.

ok when you have you self signed certificate and you requested an official certificate with the corresponding CSR then you just need to go back to the digital certificates console. To import the official certificate, select the self signed certificate, then click File > Certification Request > Import CA Reply. Then a new windows pops out to select the certificate from your trusted authority from your local hard disk. Find the file (.cer worked for me) and click ok. As soon as you do this in the digital certificates console the self signed certificate will change the information that now it is officially signed. Look at the second column and you should see the name of your trusted authority under "issue from"
I personally had a lot of issues across all platforms. Especially Firefox and Chrome for android. Needed to pack all the root cert, intermediate cert and signed cert into one file and import as CA reply. Not even sure if this is correct now. But at least it works.
