Need help with converting PDF files to word document.

When attempting to convert PDF files to word document, after clicking on "convert" a message "error occurred while signing in" displays. Don't know why??? I'm logged into my account and haven't been able to convert documents.

Just for completeness, can you post your operating system, browser, and Adobe Reader version?

You mean an image such as a scanned document?
If that is the case, the file doesn't contain any text for Reader Out Loud to read. In order to fix that, you would need an application such as Adobe Acrobat that does Optical Character Recognition to convert the images to actual text.
You can also try to export the file as a Word document or something else using ExportPDF which I believe offers OCR and is cheaper than Acrobat.

The application Acrobat provides no language translation capability.
If you localize the language for OS, MS Office applications, Acrobat, etc to the desired language try again.
Alternative: transfer a copy of content into a web based translation service (Bing or Google provides a free service).
Transfer the output into a word processing program that is localized to the appropriate language.
Do cleanup.

I just signed up with Adobe in order to convert a PDF file into a word document and it continues to fail. Any suggestions.

If you have adobe X, simply go to "File" -> "Save-As" and Microsoft Word is an option. Also, there is a download (paid) called Able2Extract that will allow you to convert pdfs to word, excel, etc. but the formatting is often lost. If you get the premium package, you can even convert scanned documents. I've used Adobe X to do the conversion, and it retains headers, footers and all formatting.

You don't that is not a function of the Adobe Download Assistant. You would need to use software such as Adobe Acrobat Professional - http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat.html?promoid=JOLIR to do this type of function.

Please allow me to assist. Was the document scanned prior to being converted to PDF? If so the converter may have trouble recgonizing the text.
I would recommend downloading our 30 day trial of Acrobat XI Pro and see if you have a different outcome if it wasn't originally scanned.

I have just purchased a copy of Acrobat Pro v9 for Mac with the idea of converting .pdf files to word documents in the correct format and for editing. When I attempt to export a .pdf file to Word (2008) or save as a Word doc or docx file, the file doesn't open and my Word program freezes. To unfreeze, I need for force quit Word and begin again. I was told that pdf to word could be done in this version of Acrobat. Has anyone had this experience?

What type Document, was it to begin with? (Text/Image)
If the PDF was a Text document, you should be able to with no problem?
IF text based and converted, try opening word first then open the document.
There is a format that Word will read called RTF (Rich Text File), that Word can read.
Try converting to RTF then try opening. When opened then save as DOC or DOCX
If it was created from a scan, Word my not open it, because it is an image (a Big Picture).
Finally, if it has a lot of images, they may not do right, and may cause a lot of problems.

I really don't want to have to pay a subscription fee to be able to convert pdf files to Word documents. In my work, this need comes up frequently with scanned & emailed documents, but since upgrading it appears that it is no longer a free feature. Thanks.

If it worked before but doesn't work after you "upgraded" then, you upgraded the wrong thing.
You "may" have had Adobe Acrobat before but now you have Adobe Reader which cannot do what you want.
Look around in your program files. Reader should not have removed Acrobat if that's indeed what you were using.

I attempted to convert the entire document and same result. I specifically purchased the export to Word feature. Please assist. I'm sorry to hear your conversion process has stalled. It sounds as though the problem isn't specific to one file, as you've been unable to convert anything since the first four chapters converted successfully.
So, let's try this:
If you're converting via the ExportPDF website, please log out, clear the browser cache, and then log back in. If you're using Reader, please choose Help > Check for Updates to make sure that you have the most current version installed.

I keep getting an error message "an unexpected error has occured" when trying to convert PDF files to Word. One document was 4MB and the other 9MB. Both are scanned documents.
