Need help with G4 to Mac Pro Migration!
After buying my 2.66 GHz Mac pro, i followed the instructions as to how to start up the G4 in "Target Disk Mode" for migration. Was completely useless.
Whether clicking the button in the "Startup Disk" prefs, or holding down 'T' and restarting, i got the same results: My G4 system would restart but before anything appeared on the screen, it shut down and stayed.
I've been searching all over these forums and doing a lot of reading and experimentation. It sound like a lot of people aren't having good luck with the migration wizard anyway.
II did finally manage to get the Mac Pro to log onto the G4 with a cross-over cable. But i need to transfer a tremendous amount of data both from my primary account on the G4 and 3 non-boot internal drives.
Having to go through a public folder isn't going to cut it. .MAC isn't either.
Is there some way i can link up the two systems such that i can retrieve what i want from the G4's drives (without spending additional money).
Efforts to make "Target Disk" mode function didn't seem to go anywhere.
I did at last figure out how to get access to disks all disks on my G4 from my Mac Pro, however.
For those who may need to know it required these simple steps:
{1} I connected both systems to a hub (or DSL router in my case) via ethernet. Connecting the two machines with an ethernet crossover cable also worked, but of course my access to the internet was then unavailable.
{2} Opened TCP/IP in Network prefs on both machines and set them up identically according to my ISP's instructions, as always, but with differing IP addresses.
{3} Under the Services tab in Sharing preferences i checked the box to enable "Personal File Sharing"
{4} I then chose Connect to server... {command-K} in the Finder on the Mac Pro and entered the LAN IP address of the G4.
{5} At the login prompt i entered my G4 main account login & password information.
{6} When the window with my G4 system's name came up and asked which disk(s) to mount, i selected all of them and clicked { Ok }.
Presto. The G4 main drive, my 2 disk raid, my 4th disk, and my home directory all popped up on the Mac Pro Desktop.

Need help installing 8800GT into Mac Pro (early 2008)
i'm having the hardest time installing my newly purchased (through newegg) evga geforce 8800GT video card into my mac pro (8-core model purchased in early 2008.)
when i first installed it and booted up, i heard a nonstop beeeeeeeeep. i called evga and they quickly explained to me that the supplemental power cord for the video card wasn't plugged in.
this is where my problem lies: i can't find where to plug in the supplemental power cords! it looks like two white plastic pieces each with 3 pins in them. do i need to buy another adapter? do i have the wrong card? i'm searching all over google for help and even watched a couple youtube videos but can't seem to find anyone whos having the power cord problem like i am. thanks in advance!thanks so much for responding.

Need Help finding Memory for Mac Pro

Need help with overclocking my x58 pro-e
hi i have this new mb from msi and i need help fixing stability issues :

ok i tried oc it to 4.2 it runs fine tell it hangs some times and freezes or even do some restarts on its own the usual i mean for a fail oc :P if u could help me out setting up my oc in a pro way i would love u for ever ^^
specs r writing down under ^^OK i m back guys and sorry i took so long i tried some new O.C and i got so far as 3.7 on my cpu i saw that i had like really bad heat on the cpu on OCCT/prime and other testing programs i easily got to 95+ witch i stoop not wanting to know where it will hit :P
then i opened my pc yanked the motherboard out removed the cooler and the IOH cooler cleaned them both up reapplied the Thermal Grease witch came with my Thermaltake ISGC-400 and for extra cooling i add a sec fan on top of the cooler fan (yes it made some extra noise but it works :P ) rebuild it and tried again and the result was :
ideal temp: 60+ / load temp: 95+ / IOH temp: 85-95+ // and now :
SAME !!!! but the IOH dropped like a charm to 55 maybe 65 max .
so i know it was time to google some webpages and i saw some photos of CPU-Z all showing low core voltage and by low i mean the standard core i7 920 voltages ! mine was given by the auto bios setting so i continued searching tell i found out the higher the V.core is the high hte numbers are on the sensors !
i found out that a standard voltage will take me to 4GHz of speed so i tried it on my 3.7 (current speed )
and the result was lets just say WOW ! i think :
ideal temp 38+ / load temp: 83 (prime95) / IOH temp : 55-60 (after the cleaning / rergreasing)
so i tried it with my game (wow) and it never raise more than 65 max ! so if i over clocked it to 4K i dont think i will ever overheat it never the less i have a temp montering it with a max 85 on the alarm .
so far my tests and errors :

Only Microsoft can help you get a Microsoft product working. But if what you need is software than can do most of what the various modules of MS Office can do, check out LibreOffice, which is an MS Office compatible Office suite, can run directly on the Mac (no Windows necessary), and is free. Just be sure that if the bid will be an Office document which you'll send to someone else, that you save the document in an MS Office-compatible format so they can open and read it.

Im considering buying a power mac G5 but only cuz its all i can afford and i got an idea about hooking ut up to my tv but i would want to be able to use a wireless keyboard and traction pad but i did some reserch online and found out i need a airport extreme with 2.0 EDR to enable bluetooth which is a requirement for the wireless keyboard. Where can I find the AirPort Extreme with Bluetooth 2.0+EDR card? There dosent seem to be any place online that sells it and lets say I do install the airport extreme card and enable wifi on a power Mac G5, will I be able to use a apple wireless keyboard with it? And just a side question, for the age of the computer what OS should I have installed, I'm not to femilliar with apple software, the only apple products I have are old iPods n a 4s. Oh and I would mainly use it for going online, a little bit of vid editing, watching YouTube vids, homework and uploading and listing to music, I would love to wirelessly sync my iPhone to the power Mac wirelessly.

Help with Halo and Mac Pro Settings (demo)
Hey guys, I have tried several different options in the video section for Halo demo using my Mac pro. My computers specs are :

2gb rame
ATI x1900.
No matter what I do, I cant get the game to run smoothly. But in XP via bootcamp I can use full settings!

MoMacs used to use PowerPC processor's (eg G3, G4 and G5's). Apple has switched to Intel processors which are x86 (Core Duo) and x64 (Core 2 Duo). Because the two processor architectures are totally alien to each other Apple created an emulation layer for Intel Macs that will allow programs created for PPC Macs to run, albeit at reduced performance.
New programs are now made as Universal Binary's or UB's which means that it will run at native (read full) speed on both PPC and Intel-based Macs. Some existing programs have patches or updates to make them into a UB. Halo was created when Apple used PPC chips only, and as such the demo is a PPC app. The UB update for Halo only exists for the full retail version, which will run it at full native speeds.
On a side note, I have XP on a partition and I have far more graphical options on the Halo Demo for OS X... Anti-aliasing 4tw!!!1! -
Need help with 24fps in Premiere Pro CS4
I am having issues working with 24fps imported video. My computer hardware is an AMD dual core processor running at 2.6GHz. It has 2GB of Kingston Hyper-X memory, 2x 300GB hard drives (not RAID), and an Nvidia 7900GS video card with 256MB video ram. My operating system is Windows Vista Ultimate with SP1. I am running Premiere Pro CS4 with all the current updates.
So here is the issue I am having. I captured video on a Canon XL2 in 24fps, 16:9 widescreen, and 2:3:3:2 pulldown. My CS4 project settings were set up as DV-24P Widescreen 48KHz. I did not try changing other settings on the other tabs. I captured the video directly from the XL2 with no dropped frames. The resulting AVI plays back in Windows Media Player 11 correctly. What I mean by that is the is no jerky video, I get no raster lines, and the video quality is very clear. When I load the video into the time line and play it back in the program monitor the video jerks like it is dropping frames, I get raster lines and it looks like video clarity fades in and out.
At first I thought nothing about it. I used Adobe Media Encoder, and burned a DVD. Playback on my widescreen TV looked jerky, rastered, and the video was only clear in static scenes. So I made some test projects with different settings. Still had no success. The original capture looks good, but whatever I do in Premiere the video jerks and looks like old VHS video.
I did another test. I set the XL2 to 30P and 4:3, and captured the video. Again the captured AVI looks good. Put it on the Premiere timeline and played it in the program monitor. It plays fine - good video quality, no rastering, and no jerking. Made a DVD with no problems in the video. So my question is what setting in Premiere do I need to capture, edit, and export 24fps 16:9 widescreen video so that it plays back with with the same video quality as it was captured? Do you think it is an encoder problem? The captured AVI is what ever encoder came with Windows/Premiere as I have not added any other encoders.
Any help would be apperciated. If I have not supplied enough information, please just ask.If the video is playing back badly in Premiere Pro from the timeline, then the things I would check would be the program monitor quality - is it set to highest...if you don't know where that it is, click on the 4 horizontal lines in the top corner of the program monitor - make sure highest quality is selected. It also may be a video card issue - are your drivers up to date? If the clips are only playing back badly on the PPro timeline (and anything exported from it), but fine in Windows Media Player - something is up.
As for the frame rate - no, you don't have to work at 24P...as mentioned before, the camera actually records at 29.97 fps, but is able to be played back and edited at 23.976 fps (or 24P)...it's a complicated explanation on how it all works...
If you're going to finish to a regular DVD, then working at 29.97 is the way to go. As for the interpret footage command, highlight the clips in your bin, then right click on them - in the menu, you'll see interpret footage - click on that and a new window should open...you should see a box with a check next to it that says remove 24P pulldown - click it (removing the check) and the footage frame rate should change to 29.97 - then click OK...create a 29.97 sequence (DV NTSC Widescreen 48Khz), and edit away. -

If you plan to keep the computer for awhile, you should call Apple support and ask for a replacement set of OS X disks. Last I recall they were around $60. They also have the Apple hardware test on them, and that's the only place to get that diagnosis tool. Or you can buy TechTool Pro, around $90, and get similar testing plus additional functions.
When you boot up the computer, click on the apple on the menu bar, on the left, and click about this mac. Right under the 'mac os x' it will tell you what version of the operating system you have. 10.5=leopard and 10.6=snow leopard. -
I need help with reformatting my mac, but I dont have the installation CD's
So I have an older mac, and I am looking to sell it because I want to upgrade to a pro. I would like to reformat the hard drive so all my accounts/files/programs/settings are removed, but I do not have the installation CD's that came with the computer. Can anyone advise if there is any other way to do this or get around using the CD's?

Legally you need to include the Install Disc with the Computer if it has that OS Installed.
You could use another Mac with Firewire to Format & Zero the Disk, but who'd buy a Mac with no OS?
You could removes all your settings passwords, & such by doing this...
Make a new Admin User in Accounts, log out of this account, login to the new Admin account and delete the old account, then use Disk Utility to "Erase Free Space" on the Hard Drive. -
I need help with information on Mac Book Air
I'm planning to buy the mac book air. I just have a few question i was wondering if people could help me out. Right now i have a sony vaio laptop i hate it to death, but thats beside the point. My question is can the mac book air use a window's mobile cellphone as a air card, because with the sony all i had to do is dl some special files and i could use the cellphone as a air card. I was wondering if this laptop can do the exact same thing???
You will need to provide information on your cell phone and service provider, but the best source would be your service provider since it would depend on what was required to access their service using a cell phone as a modem. Without more information I would guess you can because if you could on your Sony you should be able to use it on any computer provided you had the appropriate cable (usually a USB cable that connects to the phone.)

Need help with WD My Book Pro Edition II
I started with it connected via FW800 to my PowerMac G5. Later, decided to connect to my Airport Extreme to share with my wife's PC and my MacBook Pro. I tried to connect back to my G5 via anything and it will not mount. When I run disk utility, it says it was not properly unmounted. I understand the issue and why, but I have went back to the Extreme, reconnected to all my computers and unmounted properly just to be safe, then disconnected from extreme and it still will not mount to my mac. Any suggestions?

I've been contacted by one of the senior VPs of PR at Western Digital, and he has promised to put me in touch with more advanced tech support in the US, to see if my problem can't be resolved. It seems my blog posts and videos got some well-deserved attention. We'll see where this new development leads. I'll keep this post marked as unresolved until I have a definitive solution for my issues, and will update it as needed.
I've had great success with the OWC NewerTech Stack enclosures, the ones that have a built-in Firewire and USB hub. I've had two of them for over 2 years now, and they work great. I've replaced the drives inside them as bigger drives became less expensive, and they've held up quite nicely. I also have a Porsche-designed LaCie that has been working non-stop for about two years as well, and now I have three 500 GB LaCie drives that I recently bought. They work great as well. I also really like my Drobo, which I bought to store my photo library. The only drive I'm having problems with is the My Book Pro Edition II, which is why I keep trying to get its problems resolved. -
Help with a 2013 Mac Pro kernel panic?
I've been working with Apple Support to nail down a kernal panic without much luck. The machine is shutting down/restarting a few times a day. Hardware test is negative and I've rebuilt Maverick.
I thought it might be a firewire drive that I had connected to a Belkin dock, but it's now disconnected and I'm still getting the restarts.

So taking a long shot here. I was on my friends Macbook Air last night and it will not start at all. The Mac starts but doesnt go past the apple icon and a spinning gear icon like something is happening in the backround. Have kept it on for hours nothing happens.
Have tried all possible combinations of booting it like SMC reset, Boot in Safe Mode but nothing seems to work.
Is there any way to boot it from a USB or something?
Unfortunately since it wont start i cannot post the exact configuration.
Any sort of help will be appreciated.
Also if there is a way to restore it will be great..If you have a boot drive on an external HDD with a compatible OS you may be able to start the MBA.
I do think that the best option is to take the MBA to a repair facility for a diagnosis and repair.
