Need help with masking & applying the keyframes to other layers

Hi There,
I am trying to achieve this effect: Dropbox - Maroondah 2040 Animation.mp4 with the below vector graphic.
I'm unsure the best way to go about masking it. At the moment I have split each shape (left & right sides) in half and mask it as too pieces see example - Dropbox - Comp 2 RAM.mov
Is there an easier / better way to go about it?
Ideally I would like to import each shape as a path from illustrator, and apply the gradient over the 5 stages as another mask. Is this possible?
Also, once I created the animated ( stage one ) what is the most efficient way of apply the masks the remaining 5 stages?
Any tips or guidance would be appreciated.

There is no getting around splitting your artwork into sections where the gradient overlaps.
If it were my project I would not be converting illustrator artwork to shape layers, but would instead create all of the pieces and Illustrator instead of After Effects. I would also create in Illustrator grayscale copies of all the shapes using a black to white gradient. These copies would be placed directly over each of the illustrator layers. I would then import the AI file as a composition and use gradient wipe or luma matte with animated opacity to reveal each part the design.

Need help with masking a time-lapse animation

Hi all,
I'm working on a time-lapse project where I have taken 240 shots of a highway heading into my city, and have erased the cars from the shot, creating the look of an "empty city". This will be one of many sequences like this.
I got the highway background plate perfect, no cars, and I threw that into my AE comp (CS6), along with the 240 images as a JPEG sequence. I've layered the background plate on top of the image sequence and used a mask to "hide" the cars from the highway.
The problem is, some of the cars are taller than the roadway (trucks, busses, etc), so they push into the upper part of the frame where the motion is supposed to happen. If I extend the mask upward, you can see a literal bisection between the still plate and the animated JPEGs. If I just move the mask path to hide cars as they go by, the moving mask becomes VERY obvious in the exported QuickTime.
I've attached a still of my setup and a short video for explanation. If anyone can help me salvage this shot, I'd be very grateful. I do NOT want to have to erase out the tops of the cars in every photo I took

Yes, Ross definitely doesn't share a lot of how-to, mainly just erasing objects and layering in After Effects. How he deals with problems/challenges isn't covered, so that's my learning curve.
The zooms are easy, you can do that in post if you shoot high enough resolution. The pans were done on a pocket dolly using a remote device that automatically tracked the camera across the scene over time. Couple hundred bucks to rent one, but too advanced for me at this point. I'm more concerned with getting stable, usable shots.

RVS4000: Need help with out-of-the-box device

The router is performing very badly.
1. Router's "INTERNET" is connected to ADSL cable modem, providing automatically an IP address.
2. The device is getting "freezed"/"stoned" very often. The longest time record for up-time was just over 1 hour. The shortest up-time was somewhere over 2 minutes.
3. When "freezed" the router:
    a. Still can perform as a switch
    b. No access to WAN
    c. No ping to the router
    d. Green indication lamps.
    e. No access to the web-interface
4. Same behavior with 1.3.0.5, 1.3.1.0 and 1.3.2.0 firmwares
5. Sometimes after "Restore to factory defaults" DIAG-RED led is lit, and does not go off.
6. To get device back helps to power-off it for an hour or two.
Is it possible to get any information from the router, when it is "freezed"

With it only being Friday, I would take it back to the store I bought it from and get another. The same or better.

If you want to use this as a learning experiance and figure out this problem yourself, then the following maybe for you:
In all of your communications. I hear you saying your RVS-4000 freezes and will not communicate. No in or out of data. Is that correct?
You are also saying, these freezes occur at various times. Correct?
Which I hope this means is that it is working until it stops working...
If that is correct. Then you need to figure out if the problem is coming in over your WAN connection or it's the hardware of the Router itself.
If you think it's the hardware of the Router. Then do things like measure the temperatures of the Router. (Carefully) Try to heat it or cool it to see if this makes it fail, quicker... Check the Voltage to this Router and make sure it's correct and you are not getting Black outs or brownouts, etc... Also check for lose data connectors. (Watch the lights on the front panel)
However, If you think this is from a TCP/UDP attack on your Router. Then you can place a HUB between your Router and the Cable/DSL Modem and the Router. Next plug in a PC into the same HUB and run Network Software Monitoring on this PC in Continues Record mode. Until a failure. Then go thru the Data and see what you find.
There are a few free Network Software Monitoring Tools you can find and download. Even Microsoft has a nice one for free. Microsoft Network Monitor 3.x
You can also buy another Router. The same or better and if you have the same kind of problems. Then it just might be coming in over your connection. And the new Router can then be returned as its still new.
You can call Cisco and or your local ISP and work with them on this problem.
These are just a few Ideas... I'm sure others will have even more.

I need help with problems after the April 2015 update

In December 2015 I purchased an LG G3. It started out great. Then often people couldn't hear me..sometimes with the speaker on, sometimes with it off, sometimes on bluetooth with my car,.or my voice faded in and out, or sounded muffled or garbled. After over a month of these frequent audio problems and several calls to Verizon during which they boosted my signal and guided me through a factory reset which took all of my photos out of their albums, the final suggestion a few days ago (April 21, 2015) was to download the new software update. I did and I'm not happy with some of the changes e.g. I wish I could have the old home touch buttons back,The jury is still out on sounds quality, but now I have two new annoying problems.
The first is that my car and phone used to bluetooth (connect) as soon as I put my engine on. Now, every time I get in my car I have to go into settings and give the phone permission to have other devices find my phone. Then after one or two tries the bluetooth eventually connects them. I am a Realtor and I need my phone and car to connect automatically every time I get in. I can give the phone permission to connect for up to an hour, but then it goes off. How do I get the opton to stay on?
The second is that I often turn my data off, and I used to do it from the notification panel that I can pull down. I just pulled it down and tapped "data" and the light would go off if the data was off and on if it was on. Now when I tap "data" I can turn it on or off, but the data button stays lit so when the data is off the light is still on. No more quickly glancing to see the data status...I have to tap it and read the notice to find out. Yes, 3G or 4G light up in tiny letters at the top, but data is the only button that stays lit when it is turned off.
Am I missing the steps that would fix these issues?

I am sorry to hear of the issues with your device before and after the update. We want to restore the love back to your device. Please keep us posted on the audio issues to see if the update did assist with that issues.
In regards to the two new problems, we want to make sure we get this worked out. Do you have issues with the device only auto connecting to your car or all bluetooths? Do you receive and error message when the device doesn't auto connect and you attempt to connect manually but it fails? As for the data icon, when you tab on the data icon from the notification tab does the 4G actually disappear even thought the data icon is still lit?

Need help with PAGES in the document file will not open

Hi if anyone can help me I woud appreciate it-
I downlaoded awhile back the new software X and eveything was fine till I tried to open some documents (pages) and it will NOT OPEN a window pops up a newer version is available but when I go in there are NO UPDATES and I really do not think I need to buy a newer version do I?

When you installed the latest version of Pages (and other iWork apps), the older versions were saved in a folder named "iWorks '09" in the Applications folder. You're trying to open a document that was saved in Pages 5 or in Pages for iOS using the older version of Pages. What you probably need to do is remove the Dock icon and drag Pages 5 into the Dock.

Need help with working in the background while doing a presentation

Hi guys,
I wanted to know if my MBP had a way to let me do a presentation, where on my screen I could tell it to present what I wanted it to present rather than showing every single move that I would make. If for instance, I were to open an app for looking up something to present, I wouldn't want people to see that action, but rather the things that I would put on a special window or virtual place created just for that.
Maybe there's an app that will let me do this? What happens to me know is that when I connect the MBP to the data show presenter, everything I do gets displayed on the big screen on the wall. I want to work in the background without people seeing that. Please help. Thanks.

The system software makes it about as easy as possible. Press fn+F7 (the pictographic mnemonic on the F7 kety is two overlapping rectangles). This will toggle the display mode between mirroring (same image on internal and external display) and spanning (each display independently contributing to the total viewable area).
As a bonus when using Keynote (the presentation software from iWork) in a dual-screen configuration, you get one display showing the presentation and the other showing you context (the upcoming slide) and a timer. Check out the demo included with you MacBook.

Need help with 8350i! Doesn't charge+ other problems

Hello everyone,
First of I do not have much Blackberry experience, so all help is appriciated.
So a little over two weeks ago I got me the 8350i, phone worked fine other than the well known issues (sms/mms, echo). Then on Jan 31st, when Sprint/Nextel had service problems all day long (all my friends with Nextel were complaining that day, Sprint customers for two days even) in my area it began...
The very next day, my phone stopped receiving sms messages, all messages sent (except instant messages and e-mails) were automatically changed to mms messages.
On top of that, my BB stopped charging from the wall outlet. It also doesn't connect to my laptop and so far on 2 ocasions connected to my work PC. I tried using different outlets, different BB chargers, even Samsung Behold, HTC Dash and Sidekick LX chargers (which all used to work for the first few days of me having the phone) and none of them work. When I connect the chargers it charges for about 15 seconds and stops.
When I connect it to my laptop it either says "unknown usb device connected" or nothing happens other than a 15 second charge and it stops. On my laptop I have the BB desktop software and it doesn't detect the phone, my work PC which it has connected to once today and once on Feb 2nd, has no BB software. I've tried a few different USB cables and the only one that seems to work is the charger for my Creative Zen MP3 player (that's the one that I used those two times that it worked).
The only way I can charge my phone is through a car charger!
I tried pulling the battery, and the sim card and it didn't help. Also the pins in the usb plug seem fine, all 5 of them. The device was never dropped and theres no chance of water damage.
I got this phone from a third party store and they don't have it in stock to replace it yet, so if anyone can help me with this for the time being, it'll be greatly appriciated, thanks in advance.
Also I noticed the telenav GPS is extremely horrible when the firewall is turned on, once the firewall is turned off the telenav GPS works better.

My 8310 Curve only charges on the home charger. I bought an aftermarket car cradle and it worked when the phone was new, but no longer. It worked for a while with the standard car charger but now that is done too. The usb plug and cord look fine, and since it works with the home unit it seems like it should be something in the phone. When plugged in, the charging symbol lights for a few seconds then goes and stays off, regardless of how juiced the battery already is. Any ideas? I need to drive from Boston to Daytona next week and won't be able to use the gps function because it kills the battery too fast if not plugged in. Thanks in advance!

Need help with info about the possibility of altering images when saved in a different format

I am very new to the design world. I have a printing business and received and image to be printed in Adobe Acrobat (I think). I needed to resize the image to be printed and took it into Photoshop CS6 where I cropped the edges. I then resave it as a PDF and took into a printer software, Fiery. Fiery has an Impose function where you can repeat an image to layout it on the correct paper size. It essentially just copies the original image several times depending on the layout. This particular image I repeated to 3 up and 1 across. When printed it came out with a magenta streak through the center image only. I have had the machine checked and they are adamant it's not a printer issue but a software issue. That once I altered the original image by resizing it that I altered the image and that I can't expect it to come out as seen on the screen. I've printed it all sorts of different ways and it only occurs with the 3 up 1 across image. I know that images can be changed when saved from program to program but this situation does not make sense that it is only the one area and layout that this shows up. I would appreciate any help, input, answers that anyone has. Again, I'm new to this and would like to understand if this is a potential for further printing jobs so that I can do what I need to avoid this situation.

Without knowing how the original graphic was created it is hard to tell you how to handle it. What is the name of the file? (Only the file suffix is important). If the file's origin was in a drawing program and/Or InDesign, then the document should be handled differently if the document is a raster image best handled by a program like Photoshop.

I need help with firmware for the MS-8348 [48x16x48x CDRW]

Well, if Yall could help me I'd be happy.
Ive a 900 Athlon with a pcChip mobo, and an MSI MS-8348 48x16x48x cd-RW drive. HD is primary Master, CD-rw secondary master.
I run XP, but there is a large problem. when I try to install anything from CD, it crashes the system about 1/3 of the way through the install. Games like Sim City 3000 or NeverWinter Nights and such can't install.
I was told that it was a firmware problem, and I needed to update it.
How can I update, when i copy the two files included in the download to c:, run it, and it says my drive is not recognized? It told me to run in real DOS mode, but how can I get there in XP?

The trial version is as good as the full version the only difference being the no. of days of usage.
The trial software is good for 30 days only. If you bought the full version, simply enter the serial number in the trial version and activate it to convert it into full version.
You can launch the trial version of the software and it would prompt you to enter the serial number else, you can go to the 'Help' menu and select 'Activate' and then when prompted enter the serial number.

I need help with safari, all the settings have changed

some how my homepage setting keeps changing to some thing else even after i go to preferences and set it as the apple home page, also when i click on any thing at all while on the internet it automatically opens a new tab, with mackeeper adds or some thing like that, i can't even try to log on to some thing with out a new tab opening and i am not sure how to fix this.. can any one give me some advice please.

If my memory serves me right, Macromedia's Flash Player installer is quite idiosyncratic. You need close Safari (if it's open) and:
Download the disk image (.dmg) from Macromedia,
Open the disk image,
Drag the FlashPlayer Installer to your Desktop and
Double-click (run) the FlashPlayer Installer from your Desktop not from the disk image.
Double-check with Macromedia's instructions as well...

I'm working with DataPump (EXPDP and IMPDP), and I'm importing some tables from HR... I'm able to import those tables without any problem, but I have to exclude the TRIGGER and PROCEDURES. I'm using the parameter EXCLUDE=TRIGGER,PROCEDURE and it shows me an error message , because its unable to find the object call "PROCEDURE"... if I remove the EXCLUDE=PROCEDURE then it shows no error message... can someone help me?
