Need Help with Mountain Lion

I just purchased my IMac on July 10th.  I was told that when the new Mountain Lion operating system was announced that I did not have to pay for the new Mountain Lion within 30 days from purchase.  How do I go about this. When I tried to download it says I have to pay $19.00

The date is actually July 11. Read here >  Apple - See if you qualify for a free OS X Mountain Lion upgrade.
It's not from 30 days or purchase...
You may qualify for the Up-to-Date Program if you bought your Mac from Apple or an Apple Authorized Reseller on or after June 11, 2012.

  • Need help with Mountain Lion downgrade to Snow Leopard

Recently upgraded to Mountain Lion, my daily applications do not work and i am losing patience, I need help downgrading to snow leopard, i have the snow leopard CDS that came with my mac
    ***detailed instructions help***
    my mac specs
    macbook pro 13" early 2011
    My time machine
i have a backup with mountain lion, and i also have a backup from snow leopard,(my goal is to restore my latest backup from mountain lion to snow leopard)
i have backed up my files using time machine AND justcloud
My question is how, i do not want to lose any data, also is there any thing i need to be aware during this process

Downgrade Lion/Mountain Lion to Snow Leopard
    1.  Boot from your Snow Leopard Installer Disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button.  When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu.
    2. After DU loads select your hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Note the SMART status of the drive in DU's status area.  If it does not say "Verified" then the drive is failing or has failed and will need replacing.  SMART info will not be reported  on external drives. Otherwise, click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
    3. Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID then click on the OK button. Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed.
    4. Quit DU and return to the installer. Install Snow Leopard.
This will erase the whole drive so be sure to backup your files if you don't have a backup already. If you have performed a TM backup using Lion be aware that you cannot restore from that backup in Snow Leopard (see below.) I suggest you make a separate backup using Carbon Copy Cloner 3.4.1.
If you have Snow Leopard Time Machine backups, do a full system restore per #14 in Time Machine - Frequently Asked Questions.  If you have subsequent backups from Lion, you can restore newer items selectively, via the "Star Wars" display, per #15 there, but be careful; some Snow Leopard apps may not work with the Lion files.

  • Need help reinstalling Mountain Lion

I was trying to reset my MacBook Air to its factory settings. I was following a YouTube video and I got as far as erasing something. Then I went to reinstall Mountain Lion and it told me my itunes account didn't have Mountain Lion purchased (I bought it from someone a month ago). SO I purchased it and have the PDF with the code. However, I cannot access the Mac App Store to redeem the code. What do I do now? My MBA is stuck in the utilities mode.!

If it is a late 2010, it probably came with Snow Leopard installed, which means you will have to have the install DVD that came with the machine.  There is a retail version of Snow Leopard available from the Apple on-line store for $20, but that is version 10.6.3.  The 2010 machines came with 10.6.6 and will not install from the retail DVD.  If you do not have the original install disk, you can call Apple Customer Service and they will send you a disk for a fee of something like $20, you need the machine serial number to get the correct installer version.
Once you have that disk you can install the 10.6.6 version from the disk and then go to Software Update to on-line update to 10.6.8.  From there, you an go to Mountain Lion or Mavericks if your model meets the specs in http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5842

  • Just bought used MBP, need help registering Mountain Lion

Hi guys, I'm very new to the Apple community. I recently bought a used Macbook Pro (October 2011) on eBay, the seller tells me that in order to actually use this computer, I need an Apple ID and have bought/downloaded Mountain Lion.
I want to get this all sorted out before I recieve my MBP in the mail. Here's my problem, I have obviously made an Apple ID, however I can't seem to buy and download Mountain Lion on this site......I'm using a PC laptop currently. I don't have access to any other Mac computer to buy a copy of Mountain Lion (if that even is the correct terminology) in the meantime.
Is this whole process even necessary? What should I do?
    Thanks,
    Devin B

With Apple's new delivery system of the OS and the new licensing requirements to go along with it, it has become ridiculously confusing. Have the seller use Internet Recovery and do the following: boot holding down Command + Option + R to get to Disk Utility. Wipe the drive. Reinstall Mac OS - using the internet recovery will reinstall the original system (whereas using the regular recovery will reinstall the current system), so he must use the internet recovery. Shut down computer when it is either done installing, but just before the setup screen comes on. You can boot up and set it up using your own ID. Later, you can buy Mountain Lion and install it. This should work (no guarantees though - the "official" way from Apple is for the seller to contact iTunes and un-register his license in an email to them advising them that you will be buying it). That info is from a senior advisor at Apple.
With all this, remind the seller to also deauthorize the computer in iTunes.

  • Need help uninstalling Mountain Lion and going back to Lion.

I have just installed Mountain Lion. I am having serious compatibility issues with Matlab, though, and I want to reinstall Lion so that I can work in Matlab. I do not have a recent enough time machine backup of Lion, and I bought Lion from the app store. When I try to re-download the Lion installer from the app store, it says "You can’t upgrade this version of Mac OS X because a newer version is installed." How can I get Lion back?

Did you by chance create a USB thumb drive with the Lion Recovery HD on it? Hopefully you did. If so, you can boot from that thumb drive and you will see the Lion logo for the Reinstall Mac OS X selection on the Utilities menu.

  • Help with Mountain Lion disk space!

    Hi All,
Recently Upgraded the ol' iMac from 10.5.8 to Snow Leopard, and then Mountain Lion. All went well, but I found everything sluggish after the update. I figured the 4GB RAM and Duo Processor are party to blame, but when I looked at my Disks I found Macintosh HD 2 just sitting there, staring me in the face. Here's a screenshot:
    http://postimage.org/image/sgzvwhohv/
Anyways, I don't understand why I have two disks, especially since there is still a lot of space left.
Could someone please explain how to merge these two spaces back together?

    Your disk has been partitioned
Try http://pondini.org/OSX/DU4.html to remove the second partition

  • Help with Mountain Lion installation?

I have just attempted to upgrade my mid 2010 MBP from Snow Leopard to Mountain Lion.
I did a time machine backup before I started. Then dowloaded ML as usual from the app store and followed the prompts.
However after my computer restarted, this screen popped up. Is this usual? What option should I choose? Will the time machine backup just restore Snow Leopard, or will the reinstall of OS X not restore all my files etc?

That's not normal. After the installation, your computer should simply reboot as usual, not into the Recovery partition (which was created when you installed Mountain Lion).
Try rebooting and hold down the option key to see if you can boot to your 'normal' drive and NOT into the Recovery partition.

  • Help with Mountain Lion Install!

    Hi
I've just brought a Crucial M4 SSD and want to install it in my Mid-2009 Macbook Pro running OSX 10.8.2.
I have all my data backed up on my Time Capsule and just want to do a clean install on the new SSD to start afresh, however I do not have a copy of OSX 10.8 on a USB and don't want to pay for it again in order to get one.
If I 'Reinstall OSX' on the current HDD in recovery mode, when it downloads will it give me the opportunity to make a USB copy, or will it just install striaght away?
What is the best way for me to get OSX 10.8 on to the new SSD?
I don't have or want to buy an external HD enclosure, otherwise I may as well just buy the OSX...
Any help would be very much appreciated!
    Thanks
    Stuart

I've just had a look on Amazon and suprisingly I can get a USB HD encolsure for £4...
    http://www.amazon.co.uk/Hard-Drive-Caddy-Case-Enclosure/dp/B003MVW2SM/ref=pd_sim _computers_4
Is it therefore worth me just buying this and then copying my current HDD to the SSD and then doing the recovery reinstall of OSX from the SSD?

at least that the operator has confirmed to me that he called me. I also have problems with either the start of the mac with the power off. I can not understand if it crashes or is just very very slow.
Finally, I have a problem with the external hard disck. I often said to have been ejected incorrectly (not true) and I start to restore the startup recovery disk because disk utility is ineffective from the normal operating system .. is a shocking thing, but how you reduced. in four years it had never happened. seem to have windows or worse. Wake up.
I am an Italian, alas, and then I would like an answer to my language because my € are the same as German French or English.

You are on Windows 2000, you do not have a "Firefox" button, and should consider yourself to be fortunate in that you still have menus and don't have to do anything to get the menus back instead of the "Firefox" button. (The same applies to Windows XP users).
Use the "File" menu to get to Import. You are not on Windows 7 or Vista, and don't have to put up with the nonsense added for Aero.
If you want the "Firefox" button you can get it with View -> toolbars -> (uncheck) Menu Bar. The menu bar and the "Firefox" button were supposed to be mutually exclusive (which is impossible in some cases without being incompatible).
Once you are using the "Firefox" button ...
Use the "Alt" key to view the menu bar (temporarily) containing File, Edit, View, History, Bookmarks, Tools, and Help. On Windows 7 and Vista, the menu bar was hidden by default in Firefox 4 and above. These menu items are more or less available under the "Firefox" button which has the most used of the built-in Firefox menu items available in a different format.
To get back to having menus again. "Firefox" button -> Options (second column) -> (check) Menu Bar
You can make '''Firefox 7.0.1''' look like Firefox 3.6.*, see numbered '''items 1-10''' in the following topic [http://dmcritchie.mvps.org/firefox/firefox-problems.htm#fx4interface Fix Firefox 4.0 toolbar user interface, problems (Make Firefox 4.0 thru 8.0, look like 3.6)]. • Needing to run Mountain Lion with Yosemite OS

I'm needing to run Mountain Lion and I've got a new Retina 15" MBP that shipped with Yosemite. I've been told you cannot run it on a partition with Yosemite. What is the best way to go about doing this? I'm needing to have access to Pro Tools 10 as some of my plug ins aren't AAX compatible yet. Can this be done from a USB 3.0 drive or even Firewire 800 (via thunderbolt to FW800 adapter) if I do a bootable clone? I dunno if Boot Camp allows for this kind of operation or not. Any insight would be helpful.
    Thanks,
    Austin

BootCamp is for running Windows on a Mac, not other Mac OS X versions.
The Mac computers ship with an EFI boot ROM that will not allow booting a version of Mac OS X older than that shipped on the Mac...which means, you cannot get your new  MBPr to boot Mountain Lion since it shipped with Yosemite, two generations newer than what you want to run.
Best bet is contact the Power Tools folks and see if they have a version that is compatible with Yosemite.

  • I use MB pro with Lion OSX 10.7.5 and Now I have bought MB Air with Mountain Lion,Can I transfer my MB Pro stuff running Lion to MB air running Mountain Lion or do I need to buy Mountain Lion for my Pro to create a backup and then transfer ,thnx

I use MB pro running Lion OSX 10.7.5 and Now I have bought MB Air with Mountain Lion,Can I transfer my MB Pro stuff running Lion to MB air running Mountain Lion or do I need to buy Mountain Lion for my Pro and create a backup and then transfer ,Although I want Mountain Lion for my MB Pro but can I use the one from MB Air,thnx?

    Hello,
If you just do a normal time machine backup on your macbook pro and then plug that harddrive into your new air; you should be able to just use migration assistant to transfer all your files. You wouldnt need to upgrade to mountain lion on your macbook pro.
    Hope it helps,
