Need help with multiple photographs in canvas- Hard Day's Night - Effect

I'm working on a music video for my son's 6th grade band and have taken a serious of photographs of each of the 4 band members in rapid sequence ala George Harrison in Hard Days Night when he is being photographed by the press and he changes his expression as the camera snaps away.
I have imported the photos {(jpg) 3.9 MB, frame size 3872 X 2592} in to Final Cut Express and have put each sequence of photos for each band member on the timeline on a different track. I then have tried to size each photo in the canvas so that they are equally spaced and even but I am having a difficult time setting them up as they don't seem to fit evenly in the canvas and need to be more square then rectangular to fit so that the photos don't move around and are stable. I have each photo changing on the beat of the music but since the photos them self keep moving - its ruining the effect I'm going for. Any suggestions on how to make this work would be appreciated.

A couple of thoughts -
Have you tried using Piero's QuarterPIP filter? This may make the job easier to manage and may provide more consistency than you are getting by doing manual scaling & positioning of the photos.
You mentioned that the pictures need to be more square than rectangular. Your photos at the size indicated have a 1.49:1 aspect ratio; the 16:9 video frame has an aspect ratio of 1.78:1; the mismatch could be the reason things don't seem to fit exactly. If you are using a 1920x1080 sequence, try experimenting with 4 photos that are cropped & resized to 960x540 before you import them into FCE. (960x540 is 1/4 the size of the 1920x1080 full frame, with the correct x & y dimensions to make them consistent and exactly fill the complete video frame when 1 is placed in each quadrant of the frame.)

Tried reseting the password, but the email address from that account has been deactivated, so when it says" will sennd to email address on file, I can't retrive the email to rest the password. Need help with using new ipod as hard drive. please!

Hi. Has anyone had any problems using the ipod as a hard drive between two systems? I have an old 4th generation ipod which I used on my PC. That ipod worked great between macs and pcs as a hard drive. But recently it is completely screwed up. Anyway, I got a new Mac book pro and a 5th generation 60gb ipod.
Now, I'm trying to get some stuff off my pc and transfer it into my mac. In my pc it comes up in "my computer" but keeps asking me to format the hard drive whenever I do the drag and drop of files into it. I've already formatted it for my mac, but haven't put anything on it yet. So I guess I could just do that for the transfer and reformat it for the mac and then put my music on it.
I just want to know, it worked so well between mac and pc as a hard drive when originally formatted for my pc. will it not work the other way around? Will I have to keep reformatting it for the pc every time and then lose any information and all my music if I want to use it in that way? Or is there something I'm doing wrong? I would really appreciate any help at all that anyone could give me. Who really needs a 60gb anyway, if not to be able to transfer files back and forth between home and work, right?

Thank you for your reply. It cleared up a lot of confusion for me. But I have one more question.
See, I looked both of those software applications up, and it seems those are to be installed on the windows operating system. My plan is to eventually stop using my PC and give it away to goodwill, however, for work purposes- which is freelance- I'd need to use the ipod as a nice small portable hard drive- I'm a photographer, and work with big files, so I need the larger space that a flash drive can't give me.
So, is there any type of mac formatting on the ipod that can also be read by the pc? Or is there a 3rd party software that can be installed on the ipod that will enable it to be read on the pc and mac while retaining its mac formatting?
If not I guess I'll just have to go back to the old and extremely inconvenient way of doing things. I really wish mac would have mentioned these things before in all their descriptions.

Need help with multiple iTunes files

i had iTunes songs/files on an old pc for years, backed up on an external hard drive. i then backed up that external drive with another newer external drive and hooked that newer drive to the mac. i then imported all songs onto the mac iTunes library.
now when i look at the song list in iTunes on the mac, there are three versions of every song - the first one will play but the next two versions give me the explanation point next to them and say they can't be found. HOW DO I ELIMINATE THE SECOND AND THIRD COPIES OF EACH SONG THAT CANNOT BE FOUND - TRYING TO CLEAN THINGS UP.

Lost & Found Playlists
Create a playlist called Found, select everything in Music and drag it into the Found playlist (it may take some time to count the tracks that are to be dropped). Create a smart playlist called Lost matching All the rules Playlist is Music and Playlist is not Found. Your lost tracks will be in this playlist. Cmd+A should select all and Option-Delete should delete them.
Or try Super Remove Dead Tracks.

Need help with Macbook reinstall on new hard drive!

Hey Everyone!
So my old MacBook A1181 was damaged a bit in a fall from a shelf. I followed all the directions on PowermacMedic (bless them!) and put in a new LCD screen, as the old one was cracked. Cleaned a lot of cat hair out of machine while I was at it.
I also replaced the hard drive with a new one, because the old one had a question-mark-over-a-folder icon. I'm very proud of myself, as there are only four screws left over. LOL!
So now it's time to reinstall the Tiger system. The optical drive is not working, so I researched on how to make an external hard drive bootable, put the Tiger Installation on that and connected it via FireWire to the old MacBook.
Turned it on and pressed Alt/Option at the same time. Great...up popped the Tiger Installation information. I've clicked on Install, etc., and am at the point where I need to choose a destination drive. Except there is none listed.
I've gone to Disk Utility, and I can see the new drive there, but just the icon as the major piece of hardware...there's no sub-icon for it underneath, like there usually is.
So, any ideas on how to make my new hard drive readable so I can choose it from the Tiger Installer?
Any help would be much appreciated. I've never even attempted to do something like this before, and I don't want to give up just yet!

Do this:
Drive Preparation
1. Boot from your OS X Installer Disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu.
2. After DU loads select your hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Note the SMART status of the drive in DU's status area. If it does not say "Verified" then the drive is failing or has failed and will need replacing. SMART info will not be reported on external drives. Otherwise, click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
3. Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID then click on the OK button. Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed.
4. Select the volume you just created (this is the sub-entry under the drive entry) from the left side list. Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
5. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Options button, check the button for Zero Data and click on OK to return to the Erase window.
6. Click on the Erase button. The format process can take up to several hours depending upon the drive size.
After the formatting has completed quit DU and return to the installer. Install OS X.

Need help with iMovie storage on external Hard drive

Is there any external HD that is fast enough to run iMovie? I just bought an 80gig ext. hard drive trying to solve that nasty memory problem that iMovie HD has... Well iMovie will not run because it's not fast enough, and the video clips play slow and choppy.. My question is does anyone know of a brand type or speed of ext. hd that is fast enough.. HELP!!! I need to finish this video pronto!

Eric, for a few dollars/Euros more (..or whatever your currency is..) you could buy a FireWire enclosure ..that's just a box with a socket or two on the back. It's not a drive, but just a box to put the disc drive inside, and it's complete with FireWire connections.
Then unscrew the Iomega 80GB USB box, remove the 7200rpm 80GB disc drive, and insert it into the FireWire box, and connect up the multi-pin connector and power connector between the FW box and the hard drive. Connecting the drive is pretty simple. Look at "Mounting the drive into the bay", about halfway down this page.
Hey Presto! ..You've now got a working 80GB 7200rpm drive ..plenty fast enough for iMovie.. which can be connected to your iMac via FireWire!
Your disc drive is fast enough ..it's just your USB connection which is too slow; so just change the way that your drive is attached to the Mac, so that it uses FireWire.
Suitable boxes are this kind of thing.
It's simple: I have half a dozen assorted drives I've slotted into new bare-bones 'enclosures', and they all work fine by just plugging the enclosure (box) into a Mac FireWire port.
Quick 'n' simple, and cheap!
NOTE: Open up your Iomega box first, so that you can check what size of drive is inside, and thus what size of FireWire enclosure you need. A small 2.5" drive will certainly fit into a 5" enclosure, but a 5" drive obviously won't fit in a 2.5" enclosure! Though something like a WiebeTech DriveDock ..or the bigger and pricier ComboDock.. are open-ended, so they'll take any physical size of drive.

I REALLY need help with this! (not too hard) (but hard to explain) (long)

I know that this isn't hard, but I just can't figure it out.
I am trying to create artificial cellular life, but the cells will be able to go through sexual reproduction.
The DNA for the cells is a 500 index boolean array. One array for Dominant genes, and another one for Rececive genes.
The DNA is generated randomly.
The division (to make a sperm cell) works like this -
1. I get a random number with the Math.random() function, and I use the Math.round() function to round it to either a 1, or a 0.
2. The boolean arrays are converted to integer arrays (true = 1, false = 0).
3. If the random number is a 1, then (in a for loop) the current index value of the dominant array is changed to a 3. If the random numnber is equal to a 0, then the current index value of the rececive array is changed to a 3.
I started working on a new class, to combine the sperm cell with another sperm cell (call it an egg cell, whatever, doesn't matter) in order to create a new complete cell.
I realized that I have no idea how I can reuse my classes, and make NEW cells, without overwriting my old cells.
All of the final information that the classes produce is passed through TestMain.class (which puts it into other variables, and sends it to the appropriate class).
So, I need to be able to run the process for creating a cell, then creating a sperm cell out of it, twice.
I can, of course, just copy and paste this action, but seeing as how I want to have unlimited amounts of cells in action, this would not be practical.
Here are my classes, sorry that they are not commented, but I explained what they do above, and I will write what they do overall.

As I said before, your code is not object.
When you write
DivideGenes cell2 = new DivideGenes(theDominantGenes, theRececiveGenes);it means than from 2 Genes, you are creating a new object which is DivideGenes. I assume that what you want is to create a cell from an other cell and its mate.
So it should be:

Need help with multiple devices and apple id

Between my husband and myself, we have two Iphones, two Ipads, and one Imac. I back all of them up on my Imac using ONE iTunes account....we prefer not use Icloud, and I think that helps keep the information on each device relatively separate from each other...no overlaps with contacts and calendars. We have one APPLE id and password, that we use for Itunes and the App Store. We just got the Iphone 6 for my husband, and it keeps asking him to enter his Icloud PW.(his recognized user name is his PRIMARY email address)...which presumably he does not have, nor does he need (or maybe he does I need some real guidance on that). To keep this from making him crazy can I just delete his Icloud account, which again presumably, was created automatically with the new Iphone 6 set up??
Similarly, I need to use FIND my Phone (etc), and HIS devices are not in MY listed devices....is this because he NEEDS his own APPLE ID, or is there a way to add his devices to my list of devices within the APP....I thought because we share the Itunes account they should all be in MY devices.
Can someone help me make sense of this?

I understand that you are not seeing your husbands new iPhone 6 in your Find My iPhone app. First, while you may "prefer not use iCloud", you are using it, at least in regards to Find My iPhone for your existing devices.
Now, for your husband's phone and Find My iPhone. It sounds like during the setup of his phone, he logged in to his Apple ID and even possibly created another iCloud account. In order to see his phone on your existing Find My iPhone, it will have to log in to the iCloud account where the other devices are signed in. Take a look at this article on troubleshooting Find My iPhone, especially the first section on the device not appearing.

Newbie needs help with multiple devices?

Hi and best wishes to all.
I could really use some advice on the following.
I purchased an iPhone and set it up on my PC in the normal way.
A few months later, my Creative Vision battery died, and Creative's only advice
was "buy a new one!". No chance Mr. Creative! If you call that customer care, I'm moving to Apple! So I purchased a 64Gb iPod Touch and installed that.
I must admit to a little difficulty trying to manage both devices in iTunes, but I'm also willing to admit that if I found the time to read the manuals, I'd probably get it right!
My main query is this:
I now use a second laptop when I'm away from my office and I want to mirror my main PC with my portable one, so that I can manage the iPhone and iPod on both machines.
Any advice on all of the above would be greatly appreciated.

The question of mirroring the library on multiple machines is quite a bit more complicated. Take a look at this support article: iTunes 9: Understanding Home Sharing.

Need help with multiple users of a catalog

I run Lightroom in a small office and several of us have to have access to the image catalog, using Windows XP. To accomplish this, the images were placed on a shared external drive, the catalog was created on a USB flash drive and Lightroom was loaded on multiple computers. Everything has been fine and this strategy will work for us. However, when I move the catalog to another computer (logged on as a different user) the catalog appears with all keywords and image adjustments, but my import presets are not available. The preset files are located in the preset folder that accompanies the catalog, but they won't appear in the drop down box within Lightroom when attempting to import images. My temporary solution is to recreate the import presets, which I have done for one other user so far, but I don't want to have to do that for each new user. If one looks for the preset file, it is located in a folder called "user", but I have not figured out how to get Lightroom to recognize and use the preset files after logging on as a different user. When I move the catalog (USB flash drive) back to my computer (original computer, original user), then everything is fine again and I can see and use al the presets.
Anyone use Lightroom accross users or machines? Any way to get Lightroom to "see" and use import presets by multiple users?

Not really sure if this will help or confuse things...
If each user has a preset folder/directory, could you not create a symlink that points to oen on the USB device? And then keep all the presets there?

Need help with my new WD elements hard drive

so i bought this WD Elements 2TB online from Buy.com with usb cable compatble for both 2.0 and 3.0. when i hook it to my personal laptop which has windows 7 professional as OS (byt the way its 2 year old laptop). as soon as i hook it up i get a little icon on right side conrner of my laptop saying driver installed successfully but not recognized as i dont see it under my Computer where all the drives will be shown and when i go to disk management i see it as unallocated and not able to format when i try to format it. but when i connect to my office desk top which has same OS as my laptop 1st time it asked me if i want to format which i did and its just works fine from then, so i thought it will be fine with my laptop as well but for my distress its same again. is it problem with my usb ports , if so then my other hard drive shouldnt be working right but they work just fine. does anyone had the same issue , please help me out with sugesstions and advises as i m getting frustated with this. thanks

ICal - Need Help With Multiple Calendars

Greetings All,
Is there an easy and fast way to merge multiple iCal calendars into one? I have probably close to 100 calendars all due to iTunes & Mobile Me syncing! Problem is with OS X Lion it doesn't seem to be straightforward! Any help would be hugely appreciated. My aim is to merge all of these into one and then sync this across two Macs, an iPhone and an iPad.
The only way I have found so far involves exporting each calendar one by one and this is just taking far too long to do.

I want to get rid of the two arrays.
I simply joined these two arrays into one array and I select an array subset for the xy graph but that does not work.
Now the two data arrays get mixed again in the chart.
I can't see what is wrong. I have tried many things like indexing the array before the xy graph, directly wiring the array to the graph etc. nothing worked.
Please help.

Need Help with Multiple Airport Setup

I have the following hardware:
2- Airport Extreme (Simultaneous Dual-Band II)
1- Airport Extreme 802.11n (Fast Ethernet)
2- Airport Express 802.11n
Microcom EZ-BR2 802.11b/g Bridge Kit (the routers see this as just an ethernet cable connecting the two points)
Extras (old Airport Extreme Dome, Old Airport Express, D-Link DIR625)
I am host at a camp and retreat facility in a national forest. We have a satellite connection in our ball field on one end of the campus. The satellite line goes into a recreation building with the modem and Airport Extreme 802.11n (Fast Ethernet) router. The Microcom EZ-BR2 is plugged in to this on one end and connects to one of the Airport Extreme (Simultaneous Dual-Band II)'s in our main building office 800 feet away. The router in the office is set up as the main router for the wireless network, our Ooma phone & network printer are plugged in here. There is one Airport Express in this building giving internet access to a Power Mac G4 & old iMac. Up to this point everything works fine. My house is across the road from the office and has a pretty strong signal from the office router. I tried hooking up the other Airport Extreme (Simultaneous Dual-Band II) at home. If I set it up to extend the network the wireless works, but the Ethernet ports do not. If I set it up in bridge mode, the ethernet ports work but it doesn't extend the network, so I put the other Airport Express in bridge mode first to get internet in to the Extreme then made a new network for the house, If I keep it all the same network my Apple TV doesn't really work, with a second network our iphones and misc. devices keep getting kicked off the network "IP not valid", so I have to keep powering down to get everything working again. How should I set this up?

To have the Ethernet port active, you would have to configure both the AEBSn in the office and the one you have in your house as an extended network ... with the office AEBSn configured for "Allow this network to be extended" and the house AEBSn configured for "Extend a wireless network."
The key here is that (most likely) you will not be able to extend the 5 GHz radio and possibly not the 2.4 GHz radio due to the range between the AirPorts. The higher frequency network typically has a usable range of 50-75 feet; the 2.4 GHz network, 100-150 feet. By "usable," I mean with sufficient bandwidth to be worth it.
You can test this by measuring the Signal & Noise values and calculating the resultant Signal-to-Noise Ratio (SNR). You will want the house AEBSn within a 25+dB range of the one in the office.
Let me know if you need further assistance on how to take these measurements.

I need help with multiple text masks on one video.

I am trying to get three different text masks to appear at different times on the same video. I seem to only be able to have one of the three words applied to the video at a time. For example when I copy paste another set of masks onto the video it deletes the last ones. What am I doing wrong? How can I make this work?

It's pretty confusing, rto say the least. Masks would only be replaced, if the current masks are selected, which is totally intentional behavior. that aside, you workflow is clunky, to say the least. Simply duplicate the layer, trim the results as needed, apply the masks and animate the layer's opacity. Takes half the time than fiddling with animating mask opacity or otehr such things.
