Need help with restoring from backup.

My wife's macbook pro ( 2.53 processor 4 GB Ram) recently had its hard drive call it quits.
I ran a back up the day prior to taking it to the Apple store, they replaced it with a 500 GB hard drive for very cheap. That I am very grateful for.
I came home, wife has already logged on/set up the laptop as a new laptop. Apple upgraded the OS while it was in their possession to 10.9.2. The last back up was on Mountain lion 10.8.
How can I get all the files (iPhoto being hugely important) from the 10.8 backup onto this 10.9 laptop? I can't restore from Time Machine because it isn't the correct OS nor is the same laptop (in its mind due to new hard drive and her setting up as a new laptop.)
I greatly appreciate the help in advanced, any links or "How to" threads would be wonderful!!!

Look at the options presented here:

Ciao.

  • Need help with iMac OSX backup

    Hi,
I currently have a mac book air running osx 10.8.
And i recently purchased a imac running osx 10.8.
I need help with the backup feature between my imac and macbook air.
I work with excel files a lot, using Microsoft office for mac.
so basically what i want is to have a 2 way backup between my imac and macbok air.
That is, when i make any changes, create or delete a file in either of the system, i want the other system to make the change automatically.
For example when i make changes to a spreadsheet (excel file) on my imac, i want the same to be updated automatically on my macbook air, and vice versa.
I want both the machines to have the same files, updating the files as they get modified. or deleting if its deleted on any one of the system. Like a 2 way sync.
Kindly let me know if theres any way to do this.  or something similar that can help me, like i mainly require the excel spreadsheets to be updated, system files, other libraries are not important.
I can also put all my files in a single folder if thats required.
Ps. Both the machines are connected on the same network, and i can also hook a external drive for the backup purpose if required.
I searched google for softwares and couldnt find the appropriate ones.
    Any help would be appreciated.
Let me know if you require any more info on this.
    Thanks
    Gaurav.

  • Need help with restore backup from icloud

    Hi.
A few days ago I've deleted data and settings from my iPad and updated it to 8.1.2. Then, I wanted to restore backup from iCloud, but got error, that I can't restore my backup. Tried three last copies, other wifi, many solutions from support - the same error. Support said me, my backups are broken. And they can't help me.
OK. I've found some programs in internet for download backups and restore it. Only trials. And they work, they see my backups, download and show me my data. I need to buy program to restore data to my iPad. I don't want to buy, because, if that programs can restore my data, why Apple support can't do this?

Photos and videos from your camera roll are backed up to iCloud when you do an iCloud backup.

  • I need help with Restoring my iPod. =/

Okay, so I put music on my iPod using WinAmp, right? Well, the music was unorganized and the quality was terrible, so I downloaded iTunes and transferred the music to iTunes from WinAmp. I also wanted to restore my iPod so I could re-add the music files to it.
NOW, iTunes tells me that my iPod is in recovery mode and needs to be restored. So I restore it, and it STILL tells me it needs to be restored. I swear, I've "restored" this thing like eleven times.
Oh, and to add to the problem, it's suddenly telling me that my iPod has encountered a problem while restoring itself by an "unknown error"
*PLEAE HELP!* I would give you everything I own if I knew you personally, I just want my music. lol

Have you had a chance to look at this troubleshooting page? If not, have a look at the bottom section that covers what to try if the message keeps reappearing: iTunes has detected an iPod in recovery mode - Use iTunes to restore
Towards the end it says "If after restoring your iPod, the message described above reappears, the iPod drive letter may need to be reassigned. See the "Change the Drive Letter" section of this document for steps to assign a different drive letter" which contains a link to this article: Windows confuses iPod with network drive and iTunes may exhibit strange behavior in relation to the iPod.

  • Problem with restoring from backup (iPhone 3gs)

My iPhone was having problems with syncing music from iTunes so I restored it to factory settings, then attempted to restore from one of my previous backups; all seemed to be going fine, the Restore in Progress screen came up on my iPhone, followed by the Apple logo and beneath it a loading bar. About 15 hours later and there's been no movement in the loading bar, it's still empty, so I'm assuming it must be frozen. I was wondering if this was a common problem and if there's any known solution to it? Cheers.

If you are using Windows, switching Anti-virus, firewall etc. might help.

  • Need Help With Restoring My Ipod, Problem seems Unique, please help.

Hi, I have a mini as most of you others do as well. I will outline all the problems and the solutions I have taken to solve these problems, yet they have all failed.
    1) When trying to turn my IPOD on I run across the Folder with the Exclamation Point
SOLUTIONS: I have tried to reset, and change the format of the drive, both have failed to solve the problem. When I try to connect the ipod to the computer (in disk mode and out of disk mode) it says The Ipod is corrupt it may need to be restored. So I restore the IPOD and it says Disconnect it and replug it into a power source (which I interpret as the wall charger). After I disconnect it (I have tried just disconnecting it when the menu restarts to the APPLE and disconnecting it by manually selecting the IPOD from the source list to disconnect after waiting) and plugging it into the wall charger I get the folder with the exclamation point again. It seems to be a cycle, and I don't know how to break it. If it is a faulty harddrive I guess I will try to replace it using the method outlined in other posts, but if I'm missing anything please let me know. Thank you.

    That's the faulty drive/OS indicator.
If restoring the iPod from iTunes doesn't work, it's likely that the drive has died and needs to be replaced.
It's a fairly easy task with the proper tools.

  • Need help with sum from previous years

    Hi All,
In a report i have 4 fields. The first field shows the YTD invoice totals for the current FY 2010 (which i accomplished). The other 3 fields are :
2nd field Sum of the value of invoices for the FY 1YEAR prior to the current year
3rd field Sum of the value of invoices for the FY 2YEAR's prior to the current year.
4th field Sum of the value of invoices for the FY 3YEAR's prior to the current year.
How can i get the desired results for the second, third and the fourth fields, please need help or advice.
    Thanks

    Hi
If you have the values for several years in the same report you should be able to do what you want using the analytic LEAD and LAG.
LAG will retrieve values from previous rows whereas LEAD will retrieve values from following rows.
The basic syntax is the same and look like this:
    LAG(value, offset) OVER ({optional_partition_clause} ORDER BY mandatory_order_clause)
The ORDER BY clause is mandatory and cannot be omitted. However, this ORDER BY has nothing to do with the sort order you manually create in the worksheet. Generally, most people will set their sort order the same as the ORDER BY in the calculation.
Here's an example that gets year to date from 2 financial years ago:
    LAG(YTD,2) OVER (ORDER BY FY)
You have to understand that Discoverer will pull values from previous rows not from previous cells as displayed on the report, although if the cells may happen to be rows too then it will appear as though it is pulling previous cells. I personally am very experienced with analytuc functions and can make manipulate data within Discoverer just about any way that I want. Generally, if I can see data on the screen even when they are in different cells or rows I can create functions to manipulate it. This capability only comes about as a result of experience and I would strongly advise you to practice with the analytics and see if you can at least master some of them. You'll find your Discoverer capabilities will improve dramatically and you will become a great asset at work.
When working with a new report I generally duplicate the report as a table so that I can see the values. Then if I need to sort the items in order to line up the values I want to work with I do so. Having worked out what sort order I need I can then see what offset I use then I create the analytic and use it in the main worksheet.
    Hope this helps
    Best wishes
    Michael

  • I just bought my MacBook Pro 13" and I tried to install an anti virus but then it went into a grey folder with a question mark I need help with restoring the iOS please

I need help taking out the grey folder with the question mark and I've try everything except the CD thing because my MacBook didn't come with one so I really need help please

What anti-virus software did you install? Although there's a lot of bad anti-virus software out there, no anti-virus software should cause such a problem. A gray screen with a flashing question mark on a folder means that no bootable system could be found, which means that the system was badly damaged or corrupt. Even installing bad software would not normally cause that, so either there was something badly wrong with the system already or the anti-virus software you tried to install was really, really bad!
As mende1 says, you need to reinstall the system at this point. After your system is back up and running, read my Mac Malware Guide. If, after reading that, you want anti-virus software, use one of the programms recommended in that guide.

  • Help with Restoring from Time Machine Backup with new Hard Drive

Hello. Recently, my hard drive died in my 24" Early 2008 Aluminum iMac. Luckily, I had a time machine backup, and I took it upon myself to replace the 320 GB Hard Drive with a 2 TB Seagate Barracuda disk. The hardware replacement (although difficult) went fine. Now, I'm having a bit of trouble restoring the new drive from my time machine backup. The new disk shows up in Disk Utility with the correct capacity. I formatted the new drive with Mac OS Extended (Journaled) using my installation disk. My only problem is that the drive isn't showing up when I am choosing which drive I want to restore my time machine backup onto. I can pick out the backup I want perfectly fine, but I can't find the new drive. Any help?

UPDATE: I restarted it (Classic IT Crowd "Have you tried turning it off and on" moment) and the drive shows up on screen. Right now, I'm waiting for it to "Calculate disk size needed for restore" and I'll keep you posted.
UPDATE 2: Currently restoring. Let's see if it's successful.

  • I need help with restoring a previous Firefox session from the other day, that seems to not be opening back up.

I had many tabs opened in my Firefox browser and usually I can close the browser and reopen it, and the tabs are still there.
After restarting my computer, I went to Firefox and it started with a new session, without the option to restore the previous session.
I have a feeling that there is a way to restore these tabs, but in the case that it is not, then I'll just have to accept that.
I was thinking maybe a backup file of the tabs, like how the bookmarks can be backed up.
The tabs were important, so I just wanted to use this as the last resort to see if they can be restored in some way, shape or form.
This is the first time that I'm using this, so I'm hoping that someone can help me with this issue, as I'm sure that I am not the only one that has ever experienced this problem.

You can make a backup copy of the file sessionstore.js in the profile folder.

*Help > Troubleshooting Information > Profile Directory: Open Containing Folder
You can also bookmark all open tabs via the right-click context menu of a tab on the tab bar.

  • Help with restoring from Time Machine Backup from another computer

I was required to dump my Mac OSX on my MacBook Pro and convert to a windows machine to use a testing software that did not allow boot camp.  Before doing so, I backed up my hard drive to a partition of my iMac via a wireless connection.  I am now using a boot disk to try to restore my system from the Time Machine backup on the iMac.  I have logged onto my wireless network, but the Mac OSX Installer just keeps saying "Searching for Time Machine Backups..."  My iMac is on (typing this now) and is active on the network.  What do I need to do to be able to see my Time Machine backup from my MacBook Pro?

    Hi m,
I don't know if this would make a difference or not, but you could try booting the iMac in FireWire Target Disk Mode.
