Need help with setting up lightscribe to burn onto dvd label with external
Bought the LG external mac compatible drive and have the smile on my mac disc label (bought) - have set the 'CD Boundary for text formatting' to LightScribe Full Label and there is supposed to be a lightscribe pop-up popping up when i press print but no pop up.
Could the lightscribe that i downloaded from their site not be installed even though it said 'successfully installed?'
anyone know what i am talking about? and could help?

I added the user alex to my linux system and checked the parameter os_authent_prefix:

- I read that kerberos authentication is only available through oracle advanced security addon. What about authentication through ldap?Obviously it doesn't work from any remote system.
For this to happen the parameter remote_os_authent would have been set to true.

As far as I know you should have been logged in as alex on the client, and using sqlplus /
However, from 10g onwards Oracle comes with Oracle Wallet, which stores the password encrypted outside the database in a file, called wallet, and which is accessible from anywhere.
You would better use that.

Need Help with External Hard drives and too much music
I am not terribly tech-savvy, and I need your help. I have a G5 PPC dual processor with an internal 250GB drive. I have two seagate firewire/USB2 external hard drives. One is 250GB and one is 350GB. I want to know how to use them to get my Mac to run faster and better.
My original hard drive is 7GB shy of being full. Almost half of this is my itunes library which is over 100GB. The older (250GB) hard drive has about 150GB of photos/videos.
My Mac is running slow as molasses and when I power up the external hard drives it slows down to what I recall my original Mac Plus ran like.
I use the G5 primarily to work with photos, illustrations and creating the occasional DVD with video and photos. the apps I use most often are Photoshop, Illustrator and Painter. I always listen to music while work.
I hope all of this information is helpful! Here is my question:
What is the best way for me to set up and use these external hard drives to return my G5 to its original blazing (to me) fast speed?
PPC G5 Mac OS X (10.4.9)I think you should look at adding two 500GB internal drives. I'd say Maxtor MaxLine Pro for cost, but they also run much warmer (43ºC even when nearly doing zilch) so I'd go with WD RE2 500GB for $40 ea. more.
dump whatever you don't need, trash anything that is hogging space and is just temp file or useless cache. Web browsers can leave behind a ton of small files eating up tens of MBs.
Use SuperDuper to backup/clone your drive.
Disk Warrior 4 to repair (after it gets to 15% free, or just forget for now).
A 250GB drive formats to 240GB and you have ~3% free it looks like.
For every data drive plan to have two backup drives.
Keep your boot drive to 40% used.
And your data drive to 60%.
Backups can go a little higher.
Drives are cheap and inexpensive, especially for the space and performance. And they have improved SATA over the years it has been out.
By doing a backup followed by erasing your drive, and then restoring it, using SuperDuper, which optimizes the organization, skips copying temp files that aren't needed, it also defragments your files. I would do backup daily to different sets that you "rotate." And before any OS update. And do the erase and restore probably every 2 months.
Make sure you keep one drive partition somewhere that is just your disk utility emergency boot drive that is not a copy of working system, used for doing repairs like running Disk Warrior and Disk Utility.
You may need to repair; backup; even erase and restore your external drives. Rather than spend on vendor made case, just pick up a good FireWire case either with drive, or bare (and add your own). I think it'd add 500GB FW drive though.
Why?
To begin backup of your current drive. To leave your other FW drives "as is" for now.
Then install a new internal 500GB drive as well so you now have a good current backup, and you have moved your data off 250GB to 500GB. If anything happens, you have one off line FW backup.
Then begin to clean up, organize, and get your FW drives working. It sure sounds like they have had some directory or file problems.

Need Help with External DVD Drive on my iMac
Hi, This is my first post and I hope there is someone out there that can help me. My PC just died and I'm finally moving on and taking it where it belongs, the dumpster. Anyways, I've been using my Pioneer DVD burner in there and now I'm trying to use it on my Intel iMac. When I hooked it up using an external firewire case, this is what shows up in my profiler.

Need Help with External Storage

I have a MAJOR problem that I can't for the life of me figure out. I just got a new macbook and am making the switch from PC's. All of my itunes music has been stored on an external linksys hard drive, and I want to keep it there, but share the files wirelessly on my macbook. When I try to set up my library in itunes by holding down the option key then navigating to the external drive, itunes tells me there is no itunes library there. ALL the MUSIC is there, as I can see it, but it seems as though it is just not set up as an itunes library file, so itunes won't let me access all the music, as it doesn;t see it as a "shared library".
So, um, any suggestions? HELP!Welcome to AD!

I have gotten my iMac to see my PC's ITL file wirelessly. The sharing of files between Mac and PC is often goofy and permissions not always correct. I'm sure it's some setting I don't know about. It kept giving me a message about library not getting saved due to lack of permissions.
But anyway. On my iMac, I plugged in the exHD I'd been using on my PC. In Mac finder I had to browse to the ITL file, right-click and Get Info. You need to tell the Mac to open it with iTunes. The default is a 'unix executable file' originally, as Mac doesn't know what to do with the ITL file extension. -
Need help with external hard drive!

I have been having trouble with my external hard drive.
My mac is reading the disk however all my files from the hard drive are missing?
In disk utility is seems to show that there are files on the disk but I cannot see them?
At the bottom is shows that there are files on the disk!
PLEASE HELP!!!!

Just move the data from the external drive, format and then move it back if you want, as JiveMasterT explained.
If the external drive is FAT file system, then you don't need to format the drive unless you are planning on using the drive as an OSX backup. -
Monitor(video) on emac blew up, need help with external monitor....
Hello everyone, I have an old Emac which the monitor popped and stopped working. I bought the plug and had an external older monitor working once, then I plugged in a newer monitor and now neither will work. The xternal monitor has a small blue rectangle bouncing around saying "please check pc display settings. I tried to reset the ram by restarting the Emac and holding down the command,option,p, and r buttons. This made the second restart sound, but the video still does not work. Is there another sequence to reset? Am I doomed now? Any help is appreciated. Thank you.
Hello again, yes it was the picture tube that went. the smell was awful. The machine still runs, but since I plugged the flat screen monitor into it, it will not display either monitor. It was working once with an older monitor, but now it just diplays "adjust pc display settings". I needs to view the emac so I can retrieve my files. I've also tried resetting the pram, but that did not work. What can I do? I'm stuck. Thx.

Need Help with external display...
First, let me explain what is happening. I'm using an external 19" Gateway LCD display with my Powerbook G4 1.25Ghz. Via DVI-D input. Everthing from connection to correct resolution is working fine. But the moment I change the refresh rate from 75Hz to 60Hz, the monitor starts to jitter or seems to have a nervous condition. The problem corrects itself only after a restart but I can change from 60Hz to 75Hz with no problem.
Now, from my understanding refresh rate has no bearing on LCD monitors, is this correct? and why would the monitors manual say that the native refresh rate is 60Hz. So, I'm concerned if running the monitor at 75Hz will degrade or hurt it. And once again why does the monitor image shake when going from 75Hz to 60Hz but not vice versa.
Any and all response with your experience is greatly appreciated.
DavidYou shouldn't need to adjust the refresh rate on an LCD display. Just leave it at it's default.

ok here it is my duaghter pushed my powerbook off hte table and it broke the screen and i have purchased a dvi to vga adapter to work on a n external monitor is there anything else i need to do to make it work right now all i get is white screen anyhelp willbe greatly appreciated
The VGA adapter is only 4" long, do you have an extension? If so, the computer should register the adapter and the images should be displayed. Any more details would help to see what's wrong.

you can't. the extreme is only a router. you need a separate modem (or disable the wireless part of your old router and use it as a modem - if that's possible). -

[SOLVED] Need help with setting up X
Hello guys am new to the forum and this is my first post here. I am in need of a little help.
Need help with X configuration. It starts like this, I installed xorg-server , xorg-utils, xorg-server-utils. When I tried installed xorg-init it says no package, anyway I ignored and moved on.
Now I installed regular mesa stuff and installed xf86-video-ati driver for my HD4250 graphics adapter. with libgl and ati-dri (I have old arch wiki print so it mentioned to install those while newer doesn't list some stuff)
Now the problem is that Xorg -configure doesn't work with newer X and nor the packages has generated /etc/X11/xorg.conf file.
Anyway I created the file manually and added each and every section as mentioned in the "old" guide that I have.
I even added a /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/20-radeon.conf file for my graphics card with the content as
Section "Device"
Identifire "r"
Driver "radeon"
EndSection
After manually creating all such files I installed x-term, xclock and twm. But when I tried to start X by startx or Xinit it says command not found. Add to that a simple X shows couple of errors.

Some more questions : My old guide mentioned to install HAL while newer guide on the net mention DBUS. Though I have added DBUS to be on the safe side but why not HAL ? Is it because of Udev ?
