Need helping printing to networked printers.

I need help setting up network printers that have a code on them for each individual. There is no place to put a code so the printer will know who is printing what. I have installed 3 printers and they will not print, they just go to a paused mode and when you hit resume in reverts back to pause because it is looking for a code. I have tried it another way but it asks for a user name and password and all we have are codes. The workplace is using a windows based server and the copiers are listed as followed.
Konica biz hub c450
Sharp ar m700n
sharp mx700n
I need help to be able to print from my mac. I also have parallels running with xp installed and all the printers are installed on that side and printing fine. Hopefully someone can help me out.
Thanks in advance

Hello and welcome to Apple Discussions.
In order to provide the user with the ability to input a user code, the respective printer driver would have to provide the facility. If this feature did exist on a previous version of OS X, then you may have to check the vendors web site to see if there is a driver for 10.6.
If you are not sure if the function was supported previously, then go through all the user menus for the driver. The function may be present but located in an unusual location. Or it could require an additional file (aka plugin) that could be missing from the driver installation or not compatible with 10.6.
The other thing to note is that if you have the Mac's printing via a Windows queue, you will have to provide user credentials for SMB print queues. This is typically a Windows user account - not the Mac's account details. If you don't want to create accounts for the Mac users on the Windows server, then you can use LPD rather than SMB to connect to the Windows queues. This does require UNIX Printing Services to be enabled on the server.

• Need Help: Printing on network printer

Hi.
I have computer with shared printer. It has Fedora Core 5 operating system and CUPS.
How can I print from my computer that is based on Solaris 10 to this printer (from Mozilla for example).
I can access printer: print test pages and see it's jobs using HTTP:
http://host_ip:631/printers/printer_name
I tryed to add access to printer using Printer Administrator, in Print Server, I wrote: host_ip/printers/printer_name, but in Print Manager - printer displayed as "Out Of Service".
I was unable to input: host_ip:631/printers/printer_name because of error message: "server name invalid".
Also, I tryed to add network printer from Printer Administrator, I wrote in destination few variants:
1. http://host_ip:631/printers/printer_name
2. host_ip
3. host_ip:631
4. host_ip:631/printers/printer_name/
5. host_ip:631/printers/
It works from Windows and Linux.
How can I print from Solaris to that printer?
Thank you.

http://bigadmin.sun.com is a better place to ask this question.
Here's a /etc/printers.conf file that I use for my network printer, hostname adams, queue lp1.
Unfortunately, I didn't write down how I created it.
Either with /usr/bin/smc or GNOME Add/Remove printer.

• Problems printing to network printers from Mac OS X 10.6.2

I have three network printers connected to my Mac by IPAddress. When I send any print job except a PDF to any of the printers I get 20 copies of my document. This is true no matter what application I am trying to print from, including printing a test page from the printer settings. I have reset the printing system by [Control] clicking in the Printers list box. I have tried different drivers, including the Generic print driver. All printers HP printers. Any Help would be greatly appreciated.

Same issue on my WRT610N V2. I am using iMac Intel running 10.6.2. Error -36 prompted when copying files to the USB share disk from the Finder. Working fine when on PC running XP.
Another issue is DDNS can't report the router IP to DynDNS.com although it status that the update is successful and completed. After updated, the router's IP is still different to the IP shown on the DynDNS.com. I need to type the IP manually to the DynDNS.com
Hope the new firmware would fix these problems.
Thanks

• Need wireless printing for Epson printers

I have 3 Epson printers.
An R380 direct printing via USB, an R380 wireless via an Airport Express and an Epson Artisan 810 wireless via my Airport Extreme. The 810 also has bluetooth capabilities.
_So I have three avenues to print wireless:_
Through the Airport Extreme
Through the Airport Express
Through the Bluetooth capable Epson 810
... BUT the iPad provides no way for printing.
When I purchased the device I assumed that printing was a given.
The newly announced beta IOS4.2 only allows printing on HP printers...WHY?
There are other printer manufactures out there.
I chose Epson because it allows for printing on DVD’s and CD’s

I think only certain HP printers will have a direct print ... but that any printer on the same network as your iPad will work. From the AirPrint press release:
"AirPrint automatically finds printers on local networks and can print text, photos and graphics to them wirelessly over Wi-Fi without the need to install drivers or download software. HP’s existing and upcoming ePrint enabled printers will be the first to support printing direct from iOS devices... iPad, iPhone and iPod touch users can simply tap to print their documents or photos wirelessly to an HP ePrint printer or to a printer shared on a Mac or PC.”
So if your Epson is on a network, you can print to it.

Hey jeo1951,
If you haven't already, try running through the recommended steps in the following article:

• Is anyone having issues with printing to network printers with 10.8.4?

I have upgraded our schools to Mountain Lion. Ever since the beginning of the year we have had issues with network printers. They are all HP printers, when they go to sleep a user has to turn off the printer and turn it back on then resend the print job. Now users are being asked to put a password itno the Print Operator group. This never happened before. Cups is changing the queue names to MCX_1 or 2 etc. Not keeping the queue name. All these people are in WGM and have printers set for their group. So I have reset the printer settings on the machines, then restart relog in and get the list of printers they can print too and within 1 day they are unable to print. I am trying my very best to get this issue fixed and all solutions have been exausted. So without having to go to every computer and going into the Ldadmin group thru a terminal, is there anything that anyone has done to fix this issue with out visiting every computer. Thank you.

The printers failing to wake from sleep is an issue. A print request should be waking them.
You have not mentioned what printer server is involved. I could assume it is OS X Server since you mentoned WGM, but it would be nice to have you confirm this. Then I can start to suggest some actions.

• Need help printing tiff files

I have written some code that prints any file that can be opened using JAI and the ImageIO Tools. The code works good for me but I have some special cases where I am having some difficulty. Some files I need to print are TIFF files with many pages. Some are compressed using Fax Group 4 encoding and others are compressed using OLD jpeg-in-tiff. I can read and print the files just fine, but it takes about 2 seconds to print each page. Also the spooling data for 88 pages is 900 MB in size. Printing the same files using IrfanView takes <1 seconds and the spool file is much smaller (equivalent to the size of the uncompressed tiff) The speed and size issues are problems for me because I am working on a print web service. My code to render each page is below. So far I have tried rendering hints and such to increase speed, but I think the problem is that when I read the image it takes up a lot of space in memory.
Here is the overall requirements for what I am doing: A use will request that the server print a set of files (mixed image formats, restricted to TIFF, JPEG, and GIF) be printed to specific printer as a single print job. They can specify copies and collation only. The service will open each file in order and send its data to the printer. I have created a custom class that implements the Printable interface to handle the multiple files. The class below is created for each file and handles the printing of the image file.
I am using JDK 1.4.2 and WebSphere. I am stuck with these options b/c I have to use some IBM API's (IBM Content Manager 8.3) that are not compatible with 1.5 or higher.
Is there any way to speed up my code. Possibly load the image differently?

I found a couple of issues. One was related to code the other to IBM. AS for the code I found an article about drawing scaled images here: http://today.java.net/pub/a/today/2007/04/03/perils-of-image-getscaledinstance.html which was quite useful. My updated code is below. The second issues is that the JRE I am using is the IBM Websphere 5.1 JRE which pretty much sicks. I tested using a Sun statndard 1.4.2 JRE and the print was 5 times faster. Now I am looking to find a way around that issue, but it is not a questions for this form.

• HT3024 i need help on the network settings on the imacd g4

I need help with my Internet settings on the inaction G4

Hello,
What Interface are you using? Built-in Modem for Dialup, Ethernet or Airport to a Router or Modem?

• Need help setting up network printer...

Good afternoon.
I have an HP 2600n printer connected to my network through my router... I've got the printer working through my Windows Laptop and printing over the network. I have the printer assigned a static IP address.
I can't for the life of me get it to show up, assign it, or anything on my mini... I've got two more Apple iBooks in my house that I want to set up too, but thought I'd start with the mini. Tried the istallation disc, and it goes through and tells me the install is finished. Gone to print utility, etc... just can't figure this one out.
If anyone can give me a hand it would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Okay, I just needed to know...
Another thing you can check is your AppleTalk setting. Go to your System Preference, Network, (Ethernet or Airport, however you're connected to your network), AppleTalk, and make sure AppleTalk is active.
If not active, activate it and apply the change and go back to printer setup, add, IP Printer and hit more printers button at bottom, it'll give you another window for AppleTalk printers, see if you printer comes up there.
I hope this helps,
Alex

• Need Help Badly With Network Printing

Alright im very new to macs but have managed to catch on quickly, the only trouble im having is adding a network printer.
I go to IP Printing in the Printer Browser then click more printers select Windows Printing then select my My Home Work Group which is what all the PC's in my house use and I click on the PC that has the printer conected to it usb and it asks for me to type in a name and password.
Question is what name and password do i use i tryed using the user name of the user and there password but it doesnt work it gives me and error 256

OK, then you may want to take this up in the Mac OS X Printing forum. You'll probably be more likely to get help there, since it's not a MacBook problem, per se.
For starters, you may find this thread or this thread helpful.
Good luck.

• Need help connecting to network printer using xfce and cups

Hello
please can someone assist me with setting up a printer.
I am running arch and xfce desktop.
I have an Epson Stylus Photo R800 USB printer connected to a wireless Belkin all-in-one Print Server.
I do not know how to connect to this printer.
I am not conversant in CUPS or network printing and would very much like to use the printer.
My arch box is connected through cable to a wireless router.
The print server is connected to the wireless router and the router confirms the print server is attached to the network.
The print server IP address is 192.168.0.100.
The printer server has a web interface which I used to set wireless and TCP settings. I should say that I went into this interface and configured the print server which is totally usable and fine from a Vista laptop using wireless - vista laptop "sees" the print server and prints over wireless, therefore I know the server and printer are working together and all the print server settings are fine. I dont know how Vista connects, it just does!
I tried installing gutenprint and foomatic, went into the CUPS server page (localhost:631) and found my printer but I'm not sure if my connection string (socket://192.168.0.100:9100) is correct. I've tried several values and several Epson drivers from the CUPS web interface, all to no avail. I just get this message:
bash-3.2# lpstat -t

I have no desire to be a CUPS expert nor a networking expert - I was rather hoping someone could guide me through the process, I have tried reading web links (google) but do not understand various pages and instructions.

EDIT:
SOLVED!
the problem was that gutenprint needed to be installed.
I looked at the rastertops file in /usr/lib/cups/filter and it was very small, handfull of lines, but refered to gutenprint (whatever that is).
"pacman -Q gutenprint" revealed it was not installed.
All is fine now.
GREAT!

• Need help printing to a Windows 7 networked printer

Hi,
I have a new MacBook Air and I am trying to get it to print wirelessly to a network printer that is connected to a Windows 7 computer. I am at the point where the printer (an HP laserjet) shows up as the default printer, as it should, but when I try to print I get a "hold for authorization" message.
I have found several explanations online for sharing a windows 7 printer and have activated the LPD Print Service on the Windows 7 computer, but the advice then says to go to the Mac and open the Print & Fax system preference. There is no such thing on the Mountain Lion operating system, and the Print & Scan preference dows not have the features that allow me to get to the advanced button and select LDB/LPR Host or Printer as the type.
Does anyone know how to share a Windows 7 printer on MacBook Air Mountain Lion? Or is there someone who can tell me how to get to the toolbar described in the old Print & Fax system preference?

With Print & Scan open, click the plus button under the Printers column to see the Add window. This window has the Default, IP and Windows icons. Click the IP icon, enter the IP address of the Win7 box, change the protocol to LPD and enter the shared name for the printer in the Queue field. Then select the driver and click Add to complete.

• Desperately need help with a networked printer and SMB sharing for windows

Complete xServ newbie here. I'm a windows/novell admin, with limited experience in Unix and Linux.
Against my advice, a client of mine that owns a small office of 20 people bought an XServG5 to act as a server for 20 mixed Windows PCs. File sharing services are working fine. I've created the users, set up groups and rights - that's all good.
I cannot get an SMB shared printer to work from the windows machines. They run through the network printer install just fine, it shows up online, etc. However, when print jobs are submitted they DO show up in the printer queue on the server, sit there for a while, and then get moved to the completed box.
They never print. There's not any indication that the job is even submitted to the printer. I can print to the printer just fine from the server itself, but the windows clients don't work, but they don't return an error message.
Print services are running on the server, I've configured the printer name to be less than 12 characters for the share, and indeed it does pop right up during the "add network printer" routine.
Ideas? I'm not even sure what questions I'm supposed to be asking, such is my ignorance of the OS. I do know that I followed the documentation to a T, and according to Apple this should work.
Thanks in advance for the help. I'm extremely frustrated.

We have the same problem. Our printer worked for about 2 years but failed similar to yours after a system update.
Can you go into the Windows service, Logs, Printer Service. Copy and paste the log here. What I am looking for is a line like lpr: CANNOTCONNECTCLIENT or something similar to this.
What I expect is that you have a problem where the cups defined printer is not usable. We can't get our problem fixed either - but am just curious if you have the same thing. We reloaded our server, applied all of the update and still cannot get it to work.
Again, I think it stems from the update.

• Need help installing Canon network printer on Mountain Lion

I am trying to install a Canon MF4270 network printer with my Macbook Air running Mountain Lion.
I added the printer using its IP, and selected the MF4200 driver from the list that came installed with the OS. The printer worked, but it would not allow me to print double-sided (the option was greyed out). Some research showed that other people with similar problems simply updated the printer driver.
I checked the driver version and it said 2.0. I went to the Canon website and downloaded the newest version of the driver, which said 2.43.
I re-added the printer with the new driver. Same problem.
So I deleted the driver and the list of associated files, given to me by Canon tech support (I verified then that the MF4200 driver was no longer on the list), then installed the new driver (restarting my computer at every step). I re-added the printer.
Now, it doesn't work at all. When I try to print, I get the following message: "Canon UFR II Printer Driver / Cannot communicate with the printer, or the printer is not supported. If the printer is supported, check the printer connection and add it again, then start Printer Utility to get the printer information."
I tried adding the printer using the Generic PostScript Printer driver, and when I print, it says that it is printing and I get no errors, but nothing prints.
Now, I can't print at all, and no one at Canon or Apple has been able to solve the problem.
Please help.

First, delete the print queue in the Print & Scan preference pane, if you haven't already done so.
Back up all data.
Triple-click the line below on this page to select it:
/Library/Caches/Canon/CUPSCAPT/CCPD/ccpd.conf
Right-click or control-click the highlighted line and select
Services ▹ Reveal
from the contextual menu. A Finder window should open with a file selected. Move the selected file to the Trash. You may be prompted for your login password.
Recreate the print queue.
